legislative privilege. though is a major coincidence that she said the exact right words needed to invoke his obscure law now as to which legislative event she was at play she would say can you say what legislative function you are coming from i have nothing further to and sources say they saw bradford drinking at the prohibition bar at seven o'clock that evening and that it was not a legislative function the prohibition bart now bradford's whereas up and down that she did not invoke legislative immunity but she definitely made sure the officers knew where she was coming from she also made sure not to waive her legislative immunity because you see if she had she would have been subjected to sobriety tests just like the rest of us but i guess that she had been reading on the special privileges granted to her in the colorado constitution like being able to endanger the lives of other people in colorado by driving drunk and just a side note here she also had a gun in the car which would have been a misdemeanor offense had she been under the influence now the denver release of

since apologized for what they characterize as a special treatment for the lawmaker and she's been suspended from her committee chairmanship since seems about right to me clearly this law was not intended to let lawmakers get plastered of political events and then get off scot free but leave it to them to use it that way and for the police to allow it one set of rules for elected officials and another for all the rest of us so for embracing that very undemocratic ideal or was that of laura bradford is tonight's poll time winner. ok guy the time for happy hour joining me this evening is our producer jenny churchill and mike riggs associate editor at reason magazine and reason dot com. hey guys go and do it. ok we have spoke about last week or was it earlier
6:50 pm
this week and are you totally losing it but anyway twitter decided to change its censorship policy and a lot of people were upset about it. it was an important tool in the arab spring uprising now twitter has changed its technology so it can censor messages on a country by country basis. well turns out that somebody is following in their footsteps or maybe not exactly google is now our has announced changes to its blogger free blogging platform so they're going to name a blocking in blocking of content only in certain countries where censorship is required and it turns out that they did this like three weeks ago four weeks ago and they just didn't tell anybody until some blogger actually found it in their policy surprise google was being sneaky again i don't know why this sort of seems like the cost of doing business in foreign countries my my our it is just totally exhausted on all the stuff you know of the obama administration selling arms deals to bahrain and syria. on the sly and it's like i'm just exhausted with being
6:51 pm
outraged about this you know so but there's so much to be outraged about there is there's like tons but i mean it's sort of what do we call what do we do i mean do we like stop trade with these countries altogether i mean if google doesn't adhere to these policies they can operate on these you know autocratic places so i mean i think that this becomes one of those arguments you know you ask well is is this better than them just kind of you know unilaterally censoring things well i think that's the wrong question i think that when we're in a situation where we have to look at things as well this level of censoring is actually better than the other level of censoring we have a problem what i do there's a lot of nuance to this and we you know we talked about the twitter story the first time around too we mentioned that and so i think of they have the right idea at least twitter and what they've applied is that they're asking people that as soon as you see what your tweet censored you know take it to this web site so they can post it and make it public and so people are at least aware of what's going on but i don't know it's a do you play along with the game or into you to you know it's the debate now to
6:52 pm
talk about something that is really messed up and outrageous and probably had just a million women all over the country crying today. blame it on the packaging and it could leave women with an inadequate dose of the drug raising the risk for pregnancy it affects about one million packets in the u.s. pfizer says the pills may contain enough not enough contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. they've just the most messed up thing i mean on the planet there's a million packets of birth control out there with all these pills right and you're taking it and you think you're doing the right thing and then how many babies are going to be accidently can sound like a prude but there still is one form of birth control this one hundred percent effective ladies oh my goodness i'm not going to say i was like you know i'm going to say ok i think you're going to try to come on our knowing. this is the most of
6:53 pm
that you know abstinence. i'm super excited for is when the class action lawsuit comes and the ads are everywhere going with your gift from god a mistake well you. know. i don't well that's a sad thing is that you know there's a bunch of you know anti birth control people out there that are pro-life that is green and that was my first thought was was this really an accident or an act of pro life terrorism i don't. really i said it was again. that we get thrown around a lot ok let's this is just quite interesting you know what do you do if you're really really rich old guy and you want to make sure that your money goes to a certain person and i guess you don't take a look at it. good when also facing a civil lawsuit from the victim's parents and some court observers say that adopting his girlfriend is forty two on the surface appears to be an effort to hide
6:54 pm
some of his assets. that's right he has officially adopted his forty two year old girlfriend as his daughter which inched entitles her to one third of the trust that he set up for his two biological children. and who are clearly awful awful i mean like how bad you have to be as a child to force your father to adopt is not necessarily though you know what. older men could be susceptible to younger attractive when. you said oh yes they are being made and there was your wish in your you know you know what if i want you maybe the kid said maybe it's the evil step mom. that's very very disappointed it's clear we have a child and we will surely. i mean one day i mail the next to a woman you just can't make up your mind i just remind you. i don't even know anymore how much i just find this really interesting because i think this adds kind
6:55 pm
of like a new level to the whole incest thing like we were in and saw us before. in a weird way we kind of are you have all my money i don't know it's weird well yeah i mean now can happen to them legally because they're still sleeping with each other because i just all i know is what i want i was for ever refer to this is a reverse what do you know. where i am and what i want to see this guy got the order right ok right sleep with her then adopt or not you know don't adopt and. i think you're going to actually going when your order matter it's absolutely does and that's a perfect just like with your not example you know order number ations. order newt gingrich is that we can p.d. of somebody do a little messing with the day order he were accurately reflect his marriages so first one to cancer thank you one for you to be a swinger calista returned to mars or two thousand to overturn
6:56 pm
a virus i mean it's pretty good it's really pretty good but it's somebody pretty awful i just want to know what it is like what it is just enough cancer you know i mean too much cancer is pretty funny but let's just enough you would you are you would why it was actually cures so much as newt gingrich how little cancer could you have had you would have stayed with i think what you just the lymph nodes the zero purest yeah i think that we really are clearly our listeners to our last story here. which is just even so much better so there are six people that are facing racketeering charges for operating what federal authorities say are was a four million dollars prostitution ring right here in the d.c. area and they also committed money laundering and used violence to run this business and. what little name it came up as one of the people charged with counts in running this prostitution ring jenny never told us well i mean i have to say one day it just came to me and i thought you know why i get
6:57 pm
a mail order russian bride when i have all these beautiful russians right here you know obviously that's not me here which one of hers really says is yours and yeah that's what i want i heard that you were actually you mad i'm not. you know but it was actually super awkward because i was getting legitimate questions from people about whether or not that was enough. for you exactly what you want to register a lick right we're going to what do you think miley sir luke is and isn't that what russian script is called sarah looked up and sort of my we started everts i go mad if there's ever again. the fans the fans are going to come out against you again. my concern is fans get mad when they hate on her anyways let's wrap this over again or trouble thank you for joining me tonight that's it for tonight's show thanks for tuning in ad make you come back tomorrow take through or from vision strategy is going to join us for happy hour in the meantime don't forget to become a fan of the ellen show on facebook you can follow us on twitter if there's anything you ever missed you can catch it on the you tube dot com slash you are

still next. it was shot four times in total. war as it were and. three of the bullets are still in my body. and people should be allowed to defend themselves were they own guns in the hands of law abiding decent people are not a problem national rifle association. or group of basically retired military we love to shoot holes and i'm sorry if you know that the bullet comes out here and this makes it go bang and if what's in front of here is going to die and

that's all the training you really really need raise your hand if you know something's been. ok to what i want to the philadelphia phillies over streets. to tell a lot of hopefully we will never have to use the weapons for self defense but we should be prepared a full class including the teacher i think was. seventeen students. and one of seven or still. not sure is that so much to know there is a huge musician mind mark left syria on the brink of violence escalates in this in the battle country the calls for strong sanctions and even a military intervention grow in intensity. download the official anti up location to go on the phone on pod touch from the i.q. sample to. life on the go.

video on demand on t.v.'s mine broadcasts and r.s.s. feeds now in the palm of your. all you got to do a little damage people will be a homeless people believe it all but president obama and his republican rivals are looking at the signs of an economy in decline they were interested in dollar signs are specifically the ones dealing with their campaign i will show you the other side of the coin. most us citizens are unaware of the fact that that's how their money's being spent to meddle and influence and interfere in other nations affairs the u.s. is stirring the pot again and cooking up trouble in foreign countries all under the guise of democracy promotion but what they're actually promoting is their own
7:01 pm
interests abroad. or since i've been traveling the world and teaching people how to get rid of their best cubic feet so you come up with these three easy steps and speaking of too many cooks in the kitchen we've got the recipe to revolution in three simple steps and if you can't take the heat well you know how the saying goes . good evening it's wednesday february first seven pm in washington d.c. i'm christine and you're watching our t.v. . well over the next couple weeks president obama and the first lady will be getting out of washington and they'll spend part of that time in sunny southern california mother not there to enjoy the sun they're going on some very important business fundraising california of course a huge cash infusion to any national campaign and also a safe bet with one of the highest rates of unemployment foreclosures and
7:02 pm
homelessness but don't expect the obama's to stop by any of the neighborhoods suffering from those issues as artie's were among the lindo shows us there are many problems in the golden state the obama's will never get to see if there were to come to places like this in south central los angeles or down through l.a. to the skid row part section of the city there will be surprised at the reality this is the stark reality the first lady and the president do not see these are the voices in here all you've got to do is look at many people will be in the homeless while you do have many people being laid out on the way down and maybe down the drain for good gary but right lives in los angeles or skid row rather on the streets of skid row he is one of the city's fifty thousand homeless i don't think much of them coming their way or any place else is what they do not what they say. he along with community activists argue the white house hasn't done enough to
7:03 pm
address our nation's increasing wealth gap. issue of homelessness and poverty in america is obviously not a priority with the obama administration. basically poor people are being kept invisible poverty has risen in california every year since president obama came into office today six million live below the poverty line and one in five californians lack health coverage unfortunately president obama has been a huge disappointment to a lot of as well but right in his neighbor's struggle the obama's have repeatedly tapped their state for donations a glitzy obama fundraiser here in beverly hills is open to those who can pay more than thirty five thousand dollars for a dinner plate many of those are hollywood's biggest power players who get to flex their political muscle behind the walls of these multi-million dollar mansions
7:04 pm
meantime in california more than a million homeowners have lost their home to foreclosure since two thousand and eight and it's estimated there will be a million more foreclosures in the state this year not of people being affected mebane heels not being affected ok in los angeles's historic black neighborhoods there still appears to be support for nation's first african-american president but some of that support is wavering the communities hit especially hard during the financial downturn the state continues to oppress and exploit obama says the spokesperson for in the city's poorest neighborhoods there is a sense that they've been for gun while the nation's elites continue to prosper and influence monopoly capitalism has just developed than just an oligarchy. bailing out the than the one percent he's doing everything. as the obama's court that one percent of the millions of dollars to their political war chest we
7:05 pm
have just family so large you know crying out for help and trying to get answers to their crisis from everything i can tell it's done very little to reverse the downhill slide and what used to be known as the land of the free and the home of the brave in los angeles. r t r and so on one hand presidential campaigns cost money and when you're a democrat big money often comes from hollywood but when political winds are already drawn as the golden state often both blue for president how does this impact what the president gets to ignore george hamon here is the founder of survive and thrive t.v. joins me now from los angeles a there george let's talk about california and some of the crises the state is experiencing right now. well i mean there's no jobs you know we have a high unemployment rate. it's feeding your family you know it's just it's
7:06 pm
basically provide the basic necessities to get your kids to school putting shoes on their feet clothes on their back and it's the daily struggle for survival you got a whole group of middle class americans that are now on food stamps for the first time they're on welfare for the first time they're being lost in the maze of applying for all these benefit programs and there's a lot of people fall through the cracks so you see i'm combining households sometimes for families to households sometimes people living in the backyard i mean it's basically middle class americans hitting the streets scrapping for cans bottles. do whatever they can to survive it's pure survival mentality here for the for the middle formerly middle class in california and we just got a report we've been showing some pictures now of you know the vast amount of homeless people in the streets there are skid row of course one example but it's up and down the coast and it's in some of the deserts in the valleys in california as well but you know i'm a california resident former at least and it's not just the problem of homelessness
7:07 pm
it's foreclosures and it's also a state budget that has not been under control for several years now so reales on one hand on the other hand this is a state that often votes democrat and so president obama in courting. their vote won't really have to court it and probably won't get as much attention by some of the republicans making any promises to make any changes as a result talk about that sort of dichotomy and how because it's a large state that seems to at least in the last few decades vote one way a lot of the major problems just get ignored. i don't know we're kind of maybe schizo phrenic on the presidential elections here in california you know people have their candidates or three going to support republican or a majority of time you know people supporting the democratic nominee but i think people are really perplexed because a lot of people out here supported obama they thought he was going to bring hope and change and when they got is the most dismal economy since the great depression
7:08 pm
and a lot of normal people are just mad that politics is just disgusting to them because they're just trying to get a job at a fast food restaurant and trying to feed their kids so i mean it's the story over and over again politics in these stories coming out where obama is going to come out here a seventy two million dollars from you know hollywood moguls it just kind of makes you want to puke for me i can't even watch some of this some of the hollywood programs that are put out right now but i think a lot of people just the way they deal with it is they just get lost in the superbowl they watch their sports teams and their reality shows and they just try to forget about it so a lot of my friends a lot of people just aren't talking politics because i think in general lot of people are just disgusted with the whole process they know it's corrupt the common person knows it's corrupt sometimes it does get a little depressing now which is that the first lady michelle obama was in inglewood california and that's a neighborhood that has been some pretty rough spot she was promoting her let's move campaign to help work on childhood obesity around the country. but what would
7:09 pm
you choose george if you had to give the obama's a tour of certain parts of california what do you think they should see. i put him in a tent and make them live on the street for about a month and put him on a street corner and beg for food and see how they enjoy that lifestyle just trying to survive out here with no money and no help at all but one of a ride i know three hours and you're the tour guide where do you take them. you know i understand your than i think they i think they know what's going on i think they have an idea of how bad the economy is they don't care my opinion obama is just a puppet puppet of the federal reserve he's a puppet of wall street he's a puppet of you know pfizer one of the biggest fundraisers for him the pharmaceutical the military industrial complex i mean obama and the republican
7:10 pm
candidates are all part of the same class they're all interested in making money and supporting the corporations and wall street interests so even if i showed him how bad some of the areas are here they could care less because we don't have the money to give them and that's all that he's going to be meeting with people with a lot of money. i know you write a lot about these issues on your website survive and thrive t.v. . it doesn't seem that we're anywhere closer to you know a third party being you know dominating the political season coming up what's the what's the solution i mean have any of your your website visitors have you written about solutions how to deal within the system that we have in place now to try to make some changes that will be felt by the people in a state such as california well i was hoping for ron paul i supported in the last election and i do support him in this election and i thought he'd get a little bit more traction but i see mitt romney's kind of probably going to grab the president of the g.o.p. nom nomination you know people are just just
7:11 pm
a franchise with politics is so corrupt and it's even if we did win you know we got a very libertarian candidate in there for the president it doesn't matter because the entire government the entire bureaucracy you're filled with millions of people that are dependent upon a system that isn't sustainable system that's broken that's dependent on debt so a lot of my listeners are now turning inwards their turn to grow their own food they're starting to look for land there start to look for sustainable communities and what i see in the future is large communities based upon freedom based upon produce your own food your own your own vegetables your own fruits your own lifestyle and maybe. with the potential to get rid of the fiar currency because that's the heart of the matter that's what where this country is corrupted is a federal reserve printing our money into oblivion and i think there's going to be a time come a time when people are going to stop using the currency and they're going to be using some other forms exchange their services because it's so damn corrupt going
7:12 pm
back to the old bartering system not out of the realm of possibility certainly george hammond our founder of survive and thrive in los angeles. well talk now about a different kind of power from washington and whether or not it may be waning the power and pall of american democracy building groups as you may have heard of gyptian authorities are preventing a few americans working for u.s. based non-governmental organizations from leaving the country they're talking about putting them on trial in a dispute over the group's lack of an official registration with the government many of those americans including the son of an obama cabinet member have taken refuge at the u.s. embassy in cairo and pro-democracy groups have long made it gyptian uncomfortable we've seen in recent decades the u.s. shifting resources to focus on these so-called democracy promotion programs they throw money and political support of forces in line with washington's agenda critics of course call this political meant meddling and
7:13 pm
a mellower more subtle effort to create regime change now in the case of egypt there's still a lot of unrest there despite some of these efforts take a look at some video you see thousands of people in the streets a country really still in turmoil the elections there may be over and despite clear winners in those elections there is a lot that is far from settled there part of that a sign that whatever pro-democracy groups are there now doing. those people from the u.s. and other western countries well their mission may not be succeeding so here's part of an interview r.t. did with middle east expert dr walid faris many n.g.o.s operating in washington have been pushing for the so-called arab spring is fraying in egypt in the revolt in egypt a so-called it seems alarmed as a result of that and instead what we see now is the slowness network should be the muslim brotherhood. the result of the arab spring in egypt is not going to be

immediately a secular democracy we're going to begin to go through a an era of islamic fundamentalism. to get a better understanding of this reaction jihad a half is gives us a little history and perspective about these groups created under the guise of democracy promotion. but. this is what u.s. backed regime change used to look like back in the days in a bid to ensure u.s. political and economic interests were safeguarded cia backed coup d'etat was announced the democratically elected leaders from home and most adept in iran to sell the door again day in chile. in their place all too often brutal dictatorships and governments that committed heinous crimes against their people. by the one nine hundred eighty s. the reign of terror that blazed across latin america by washington's henchmen was too much for most people to stomach to replace the overt support for dictatorships a new concept for regime change was born one that sounds and looks better democracy
7:15 pm
promotion the concept of democracy promotion a simple finance train and politically back local opposition forces around the world that support washington's agenda dr william robinson is the foremost expert on regime change to democracy promotion he wrote the book promoting poli arche might in america. eastern europe with the velvet revolution in africa in the least or really all over all over the world and so the us set up these different mechanisms now for penetrating the civil societies and the political systems that didn't have countries that are going to be intervened and to assure that the outcomes would be pleasing to do washington's foreign policy objectives we do this through surrogates and we do this through non-governmental organizations and we do it through people who are less suspecting of the evil that may lurk behind their actions then perhaps they were before. have we learned some lessons of that guard you bet do we do it better you bet is it still just as heinous as it always was you
7:16 pm
bet so while the goals remain the same it's no longer the cia but the u.s. agency for international development usa id and its partners is spearheading this effort alan. weinstein one of the founders of the national endowment for democracy explained to the washington post in one thousand nine hundred one a lot of what we do know was done covertly by the cia twenty five years ago and like the cia usa id the national endowment for democracy and the slew of similar organizations receive funding from congress and millions and millions of us taxpayer dollars go every year into funding for political organizations from campaigns in different countries around the world that promote us agenda and most us citizens are unaware of the fact that that's how their money's being spent to meddle and influence and interfere in other nations affairs the concept of facilitating regime change to democracy promotion has garnered widespread criticism
7:17 pm
not just abroad but also here at home congressman ron paul once wrote it is particularly orwellian to call u.s. manipulation of foreign elections promoting democracy how would we americans feel if for example the chinese arrived with millions of dollars to support certain candidates deemed friendly to china why is terrible we use our taxpayers' money to go over and use our military and our cia and these programs to say this is what you ought to do and influence and there's no authority for that it doesn't work i was deanna hoffa's reporting from washington so let's talk about these efforts and whether or not there might be some major changes in what these pro-democracy groups are capable of accomplishing these days and what this all could mean let's go to new york where attorney and author of go under is it i know this is a subject you know quite a bit about groups include the international republican institute the national democratic institute the national endowment for democracy.
