ten thirty pm in moscow these are your r.t. headlines russia and china vetoed the u.n. security council's resolution on syria at a vote in new york moscow wanted all references to regime change taken out of the draft. more than two hundred thousand brave the bitter cold across russia to ensure their views on national politics overheard one group demanding peril actions marched through the streets others rallied in support of the current leadership. europeans demand a free internet as people flood the streets in protest against an anti-piracy act
1:31 pm
signed it off the continent. up next the alone a show takes a look at the tense relations heating up between the u.s. israel and iran as well as the latest report on the u.s. jobs stay with us. it may. i guys it's time for tonight's tool time award and tonight we're giving one huge gigantic prize to the federal bureau of investigation as a whole is in attempts to nab those tied to the hacktivist group anonymous they
1:32 pm
have the i reached out to scotland yard to try to build a unified case against some of the hackers that are under their radar during a conference call on january seventeenth between the two agencies anonymous took the liberty to intercept that call which could prove to be a big help to solve its members so the topic of the call has to do with two not jake davis better known as topiary and ryan clearly the british teenager whose home was raided by police both of them were supposed to face trial on january twenty seventh but that trial was delayed and now we know now why but they're charging us was ready to vote right including a short go sister of course from the french. photos of destruction where new york voters were looking to try our votes and tar in maine. for additional muscles from the all male side of the water now the conference call also discusses the rearrest of two other hikers and the delaying of their arrest without the
1:33 pm
defense's knowledge so they can throw anonymous off. we set back the further arrests of. the flood. and. and so we know it will happen with prosecution council making that application. in china versus a without defense knowledge. to seek a white to try to some time in the suspicious. so much for keeping these hackers out of the loop they heard the entire plan you guys opes now here's my question did the f.b.i. or scotland yard think to have anybody tech savvy check and make sure that their correspondence was protected after all you guys are going up after a pretty savvy group of hackers but they didn't bother and look who's featured on anonymous event and f.b.i. friday none other than the bureau itself and the least call which you can listen to in its entirety on the web certainly doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence and what's worse for the f.b.i.
1:34 pm
is that anonymous has been really busy on this f.b.i. friday hell they've been multitasking between this and hacking for the sake of exposing details of the hit the massacre and attempts to show the legal musings of our military judicial system anonymous took down the website of the attorneys who defended sergeant frank wuterich the man who sentence was reduced in a plea deal over the head to the massacre in iraq one that left twenty four civilians dead back in two thousand and five now in their hack anonymous left this message on the attorney's website that as part of our ongoing efforts to expose the corruption of the court systems and the brutality of u.s. imperialism we want to bring attention to u.s. embassy sergeant frank wuterich can you believe this scumbag had his charges reduced to involuntary manslaughter and got away with only a pay cut meanwhile bradley manning who was brave enough to risk his life and freedom to expose the truth about government corruption is threatened with life imprisonment so yeah i think it's fair to say that anonymous has been splitting up its efforts over a few different projects yet somehow they've just managed to outsmart the feds once
1:35 pm
again it's not only embarrassing but it's a little disturbing you know the organization tasked with protecting the people against terrorists organized crime and yes even hackers cyber warriors well obviously they are incapable of handling some of these threats if they're having their lines hats by the very people that they're talking about i mean the irony here is just too thick while talking about anonymous they get hacked by anonymous so i think i've said enough that is tonight's tool time winner. well the state of florida is currently front and center for the debate over private prisons in america lawmakers are voting on a piece of legislation that would result in the single largest expansion of for profit prisons in the country would make twenty percent of the state's correctional system privatized as being sold as a cost saving move state of florida face some more than three billion dollars deficit but looking at past examples across the country looking at campaign donations police say that this is about anything else than money for big business and if florida does take this step and the third largest prison system in the
1:36 pm
nation sees itself so why the privatized and can we stop it from happening everywhere else joining me to discuss this and because barry and co-host of the young turks and thanks so much for joining us tonight you know this is a topic that you and i have discussed many times before but do you think we've ever seen anything of the sheer magnitude of what's being debated in florida right now. definitely not the same magnitude you see similar things happen with the expansion of private prisons in arizona and you've seen this happened in ohio and you know the private prison lobby is very very successful at lobbying toward republicans and getting republicans to not only pass tough on crime laws that put more people away behind bars but also expand the prisons so i love that you brought up you know the cost saving. excuse that a lot of law makers make when it comes to private prisons because we have a lot of case studies to look at when it comes to arizona and ohio where you have
1:37 pm
the last time that you and i spoke about this topic i think that we were speaking about arizona specifically and it turns out there that it was costing the taxpayer more money you know to keep the prisoners in private prisons but then since that you know has anything new come out have they at least tried to launch a new study before trying to push this legislation in florida. well what's really interesting is that there's all the studies that have been conducted so far have been mixed but you have studies that have been commissioned by the private prisons that say oh we are saving money don't worry this is a really great thing for you to do that's what the politicians in florida are using as an example of why they should expand the private prisons there but when you look at arizona specifically yes it did cost taxpayers a lot of money because what these private prisons do is they're run like businesses their incentive is to make money like that's what they want to do so what they do is whenever the choose which inmates they take into their private prison system
1:38 pm
they make sure that they take in healthy prisoners prisoners that do not have any mental health issues so what happens is all of these private prisons get the healthy nonviolent prisoners that doesn't cost very much money to take care of and then the state gets left with the ill prisoners that the taxpayers have to spend a lot of money on so in the end it doesn't save the state money at all that's what we've seen in arizona and there have been other studies that prove that private prisons do not save the taxpayer money what's amazing to me is that they're called private prisons but at the same time all of their revenue is made by the taxpayer. there's a really good points you bring up there and especially if you're supposed to be taking in the low cost prisoners and making it cheaper and it's still not coming out any cheaper that i would say that you know that something is amiss now you mention of course the fact that industry does lobby heavily and they have done so with republicans in florida i believe that the having opposed said. they spent
1:39 pm
about one point four million dollars or one point four million dollars for florida's representatives did we see the same kind of thing across the country. absolutely the prison lobby is very powerful you know just like any lobby in the country they utilize financial incentives to laura politicians into whatever agenda it is that they have so you know when you look at florida law makers in recent years they have donated one point four million dollars in order to convince these politicians to expand the private prisons and also as in arizona to pass a law or a tough on crime i should say law so for instance s.b. ten seventy was one of the laws in arizona that these private prisons were really pushing for and they were very successful with that and you see the expansions you know in ohio in arizona in florida to give you a very specific example the florida senate president mike carey dark bullis received twenty five thousand dollars recently from the private prisons and
1:40 pm
haridopolos is extremely extremely supportive of the private prison system in fact he just stripped a senator mike as arnold's chairmanship because of the fact that as i know has been very outspoken against private prisons and you know i got to give him a world of credit because he is a g.o.p. lawmaker but he's saying look we have a huge budget crisis here in florida we need to do something to actually save money in the private prison system is not ceding these states money at all look at these case studies in arizona look at ohio we've got to pay attention to this we go do something that makes sense also keep in mind that we can you know privatized system the problem prison system and have these not violent offenders go away to prison we should be focusing on things like giving them the help they need so they can get over drug addictions or whatever nonviolent offenses they're guilty of. i was curious is there any kind of relationship or battle between the private prison
1:41 pm
industry and the prison guard unions those that work in the state run or the federal run prisons because i've seen you know also that one of the effects of their. of here in florida as that once a prison is privatized there are going to be massive layoffs we're going to find out how to do it with fewer workers at the same time we often blame the prison guard unions for pushing also for tough on crime laws because they want to keep their jobs and they need the prisons full. the excellent point about that as you know one of the main issues with private prisons is they don't need to have unionized jobs so a lot of these employees that work in county and state prisons could lose their jobs if you see this huge expansion of the private prison system at the same time you know those who work in these you know nice jobs and those in the private prisons all of them push through the tough on crime policies that don't make any sense at all if anything we need to focus on a completely different way of dealing with nonviolent offenders and you know drug
1:42 pm
abusers in the country and honestly when you really think about it that's the only way the state can save money instead of locking people away and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on them each year why don't we give them you know drug rehabilitation programs and other forms of getting over whatever addictions they have instead of putting them in jail right now locking up drug offenders at a ridiculous rate and we're spending so much money on this war against drugs if we just ended that we would save so much money but of course instead of doing that we live in a police state we want to expand the private prisons we want to put more people behind bars in the last decade alone we have seen a one third increase in the number of inmates in private prisons and it continues to grow so it's not really a great thing for the country i think we're focusing in the wrong direction when it comes to saving money and dealing with all these budget crisis crises throughout the country so we all know that money can be pretty persuasive especially if you're
1:43 pm
a politician you know some companies in the private prison industry want to donate a lot here a campaign so i think of this case in florida here might be a good test like i said is the third largest correctional system in the entire country so if they fall and they go this direction to see what will happen elsewhere and i thank so much for joining us tonight. i still to come to my fireside friday and a happy hour roseanne barr to be president and to cover the latest on the conflict between the coleman foundation and planned parenthood.
1:44 pm
from los angeles to chicago to birmingham twenty trauma centers of close since two thousand severe problem is not enough inpatient beds not on the third emergency department beds and not enough nurses to man those that seek to take care of all the people who are the only real health care system that we have in the city of los angeles is the los angeles fire department in fact when i started my venture is a firefighter i didn't want to be a mask i started out i want to just do fire fighting it's about eighty two percent of what we do the fire departments medical i've had a rescue couple weeks ago waited for hours for i've waited sometimes three hours
1:45 pm
but i was it's a saint francis in lynnwood for four hours and fifty minutes standing against a wall with a patient and we have a federal law that mandates that you can't turn no one away who seeks care in an emergency room. we have the most expensive health. it's in the world and it's probably valued the least. to tonight's fireside. this week we saw a perfect example of just how dysfunctional our political system has become just how hypocritical our politicians really can be and i think we all remember really well the battle that went on last summer as republicans pushed the country to the brink of default and pushed against raising the debt ceiling that
1:46 pm
a deal was made the cuts would be made and that a congressional super committee would have to decide on one point two trillion dollars worth of those cuts if not a trigger would go into effect cutting evenly six hundred billion dollars in automatic to cuts from defense and six hundred billion dollars from domestic programs as we all know that fateful supercommittee failed to reach a deal and so as of january of two thousand and thirteen that trigger effect is supposed to come into play now as unhappy as republicans were about it john boehner have said that they would honor those cuts and they would honor the deal after all this wasn't something that the president imposed upon them this was a deal that congress had reached and had agreed to silly that notion seems now that they might actually agree to something on paper and then fulfill that promise you see this week a number of republican senators unveiled a plan to delay or basically try to avoid those looming spending cuts from going into effect in two thousand and thirteen and this is where it gets kind of ridiculous this is where you see just how hypocritical the republicans are about defense how completely untouchable it is in their eyes and let's be honest here
1:47 pm
it's about the kids that believe in austerity and believe in cuts but they believe in it everywhere except for where defense is concerned so in order for the defense budget to not get chopped by another six hundred billion this was the plan that was unveiled it would do the fall it would reduce the federal workforce by five percent and freeze federal pay for. two and a half years so in order to cut so-called government spending which republicans supposedly hate they will get rid of part of the federal workforce so that defense the largest chunk of nondiscretionary government spending can stay so that numerous contracts can continue to be given out to by the government to defense contractors and the like now it's also not forget that all of this was done in order to refrain from having to raise taxes because raising taxes according to republicans is a job killer but here in order to not raise taxes they are killing federal jobs so does this make any sense to any of you there is no rhyme or reason there is no
1:48 pm
logic and if anything it just shows us two things number one the defense has such a tight grip on our politicians and the republican party specifically that there is no way to have an honest debate about what the size of government should truly be number two it shows us that there is no such thing as a binding agreement in washington any more let's not forget this was not a requirement imposed from above this was your own doing you were so dysfunctional the you had to make a deal with threats included with a trigger effect to force you into action and even that didn't work to scare lawmakers into being a functional governing body the super committee failed and so now republicans don't want to deal with the consequences of what they themselves have done so what's the point while the grandstanding why waste our time why are you being paid by the american taxpayer to do a job if you have absolutely no accountability for it and you know this really isn't just about one party we've seen democrats do the exact same thing but in this specific scenario the hypocrisy is just too blatant so i guess it is just another
1:49 pm
episode another week reminding you ladies and gentlemen of how your lawmakers work . i got time for happy hour and joining me tonight dan sacks producer for the big picture with tom hartman and now this money from her to the hill with brokaw ok to roll calls on the hill about it. ok let's first of all talk about a story we talked about this earlier about some british tourists were trying to come to the u.s. turns out he tweeted something on the out there already they just took it all wrong . someone's going to come in and say oh no sorry this is to this is stupid the border patrol officers began grilling the about a tweet lease sent to friends before their trip three this week for quick gossip
1:50 pm
prep before i go and destroy america tried to explain destroy is british slang for partying hard. according to some of our viewer is destroyed is also british slang for a number of other things you can do other than partying hard anyway so now it's things you dislike and they're pretty sure that spring apparently has sexual connotations as well. something kind of similar now happened to a canadian muslim who sent a text message to work colleagues enjoying encouraging them to blow away the competition at a trade show and basically just plunged him into a terrorism probe he was arrested by provincial police on picking up a seven year old son at school the police officer storming to his home telling his wife that she was married to a terrorist and all of his colleagues were detained at the border for hours. what we do is just as crazy as we are but i know this because we force them to be
1:51 pm
probably making their own crazy. canada be as crazy as they want to be they don't have to write our coattails themselves how important words are though if you would have just said blow the competition away it would have been ok but he said blow away the competition you know it's a subtle switch just like if you didn't say a way and just said you know the constitution says it right there it would be right you've got three other things there and we were only one of them connotes terrorist activity but this is also very concerning for those of us but tweet whatever comes to our head like first i agree because i had a lot of stuff i probably could be taken totally the wrong way i would say ninety five percent of this up a tweet is just probably shouldn't be tweeted but your twitter. you know me to look out or ok so this story well this system bears thing and sad but takes us back to you know back to the kennedy administration and the bay of pigs.
1:52 pm
they all have made their commitment against. communism. but i want to really underscore. we're not. meeting a primary obligation which i haven't heard around me. all right so you guys know that overclassification is a little bit of a problem with our government and so they've been released seeing all these documents from the kennedy administration and the cia refuses to leak the last like the third piece and at a certain volume on the bay of pigs because they said and they apparently said this last year in the national security archive is trying to fight them in court over it but it was too good because like they're still fighting in court they said that it might confuse the public and that was part of their reasoning for why can't we let out i just want to say that most of the stuff the government does confuses the public it confuses me and i cover them for
1:53 pm
a living i have no idea half the stuff they're talking about everything should just be secret or everything shouldn't. either a very good anyway they were also clearly confused heading into that you know they probably don't want to reveal that they had no idea what was going on in cuba before that or had no idea on how to succeed in this national unemployment is there other thing is that it was a free to say you know document so they're like you guys we really don't want you to know the crazy stuff this really is just a plan. sitting in a room was throwing stuff out a door. and we know this kind of stuff they used to do back in the day when they try to like well. you know we're going to say you are what he was scuba diving and stuff so i can only imagine. roseanne barr however and he made it last summer she made the following announcement. i announced when they asked that i am running for president of the united.
1:54 pm
i'm totally serious really because i want to be part of the debates because you know i want to represent the taxpayers and i know that i'm choosing the taxpayers as my vice president. it's everyone's been waiting for her to actually do something with this and so basically she came through on a promise announce that she's going to seek the green party's nomination in two thousand and twelve and her official campaign slogan on twitter is vote for me i'll fix this. i can save it. and so some of the things she's going to do is make sure illegal and legalize him change demographics of government and step three most important i will outlaw bullsh. i have a problem on their part for me because it's already illegal we have this discussion today i think there's a million out there and be more specific because i'm worried that she doesn't understand me as. well i mean it's all in the language. yeah you're right it's all
1:55 pm
in the language and i mean all the other people from that show seem to be doing ok what's her pace lena's like on morning t.v. if you're saying that she's only competition with the view show are so funny that you're right i do not care about something that other guys on big. i love or that rely on averages and the president also are you sure everyone has been waiting for . me. to probably be the least likely person from that show to expect to be president but. you know that's like it is. it produced two governors so it could be anybody you know if you were to ask who from the movie would go on to be governor schwarzenegger would be the last two people ever that is going to whether it's very true i guess we never know sort of over. let's move on to another story i mean this one is causing a buzz everywhere and i mean really want to get into it until susan g. komen foundation decided to back off of their stupid stance today and i don't
1:56 pm
remember what this exactly explains. the susan g. komen foundation announced they'll no longer support planned parenthood the foundation gave more than seven hundred thousand dollars to planned parenthood just last year and this reversal and the days long dispute that divided two major nonprofits within the last half hour this is a very common foundation not only pledged to continue issuing grants to planned parenthood apologize for pulling that funding in the first place. it's obviously has caused quite a fuss but what do you think i mean it's kind of like you guys that was pathetic so you pulled it and then you got so much pressure and i'm happy that you are once again supporting planned parenthood but he. that. there is nothing good about the color pink really push they're making handguns that aren't right maybe what we would picture of the handguns that they're trying to get people back on their side so most of the special exploiting are gathered together to see how that compares
1:57 pm
liberal so this week. i would like to see one of those headlines though that was said something like democrats control one part of women's bodies and the republicans control another part of women's bodies and i want to be like no stop get a step away from all women's bodies democrats control i do it i guess the democrats control i don't i didn't i bring i want to go there i'm. going to wrap it up thanks for joining that survive show thanks for tuning in ads actually come back on monday we'll be speaking with the giuliani about his new venture with jacket from up in the meantime don't forget to become a fan of the one show on facebook and follow us on twitter there's anything you missed you can always catch it only. lastly on a show and coming up next it's the next. morning news today. these are the images the world has been seeing
