twenty years later in this car when you broke. actually you you. know the great contract nascar you used to nextel communications right there scoring record three and a quarter three quarters of a billion dollars what what did you do. in the meantime after leaving nets and before becoming famous for these twenty years well i mean i . would say i'm famous i mean i work hard and thankfully i've been a lucky along the way but i've i've worked for the nets a couple of times i work for the detroit pistons so i had exposure with another n.b.a. franchise and as you said i did have a seven year stint at nascar where we really grew the sport of racing beyond its core in the south we made it into a national phenomenon and along the way we rebranded it with nextel so it was a terrific run wasn't more fun time to manage nascar for our thirty year old white
12:49 am
easter. was a move i mean well you know i was never a fan per se of nascar because it in grew up on it what i was a fan of is the business behind nascar it's an incredible business and one that was thriving at the time that i was there and there's many many similarities between what i was doing at nascar trying to grow the fan base. with respect to what i'm doing here with the nets as we get ready for a move to brooklyn so there are many similarities and i draw against my nascar experience quite often well in two thousand and five after six or even seven successful years in nascar he came back to this why why did you leave this great family business that you liked so much and came back to to a place where they remember you as a kid i mean well actually it's a good question and you know when i took the job in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight. a gentleman often reminded me of the fact that. that in my interview
12:50 am
i did say that one day i'm going to come back and run this place and as a young man who likes to dream big and doesn't like to fail. i was given an opportunity to come back stabilize the new jersey nets in new jersey but the the big moment was the opportunity to take this team to britain was a kid he always said when i went i'm going to buy this. what was it was a sort of a bakery and said well we're at address i'll buy this hairdresser and i'll become the owner but he never did that when he came. so why did you decide they're giving giving yourself promises as a get as one you know what the promise to one day run around the place really wasn't the driver as much as it was a challenge something you know that their challenge of really doing something that could be uniquely special and would provide not only me but with the marketplace big time moment and we think that moment is going to be bigger than we ever anticipated when we could finally get to book on this well ok let's talk about
12:51 am
forty under forty years several time like three times which is the limit yeah you know i've been you know been on the list of the forty biggest managers in the united states who are under forty years of age and and you were there not only as a sportsman sure but just as a businessman right so what does it mean to say for a man to see his name on the list i mean do you grab the paper run to it and said look i've made it so here we are well i mean it was a great accomplishment because you know the business of sport is so dynamic and is growing so rapidly and to be recognised as someone that's making a difference was very pleasing for me i guess the biggest part of you know the forty under forty was sharing it with my twin brother on the third time because he had wanted that year which was the last year that he and i were eligible and sharing the moment with him was very special. when did you first make front page of the. magazine do you remember that member that i don't i don't know you had
12:52 am
probably you were you didn't care or you hadn't you know you know what she was probably around you know when we when we rebranded the sport went to nextel we received a lot of recognition for that moment and that was probably the first time what kind of career would you fancy for your kids. a career that you know gives them an opportunity to bring about change and positive change that's the sort of. not necessarily business i mean well i mean you know if i had my druthers i'd love to see my children get into the area of business but i want them to certainly make change and most importantly make a difference in whatever they do if it's business great if it's not that's ok too but i want them to make a difference my son does i have two children i have a daughter who's ten a son that's seven and my seven year old really loves it you play together you do play together he attends the games and it's very enjoyable to share it with my son
12:53 am
well in two thousand and four when you came back to the nets it was declared in the press release that you have established a new team new team standards in corporate sponsorship can you translate that into into english i think. that's my p.r. . i think at the time we're looking to do things differently and as i said earlier i leaned on my nascar days and my background and one of the things we want to do is become the most accessible team in all of pro sports as the drivers are nascar and i think we just did it very differently we got very close to our to the brands that we're working with us we gave them ownership of many of the platforms that we're establishing but most importantly we enabled our sponsors to get very close to the franchise and i think that was a big differentiator force another. is that you are trying to make the nets and fan friendly and community active team what does that imply or
12:54 am
that implies you want people to feel good about you and in order to do so you need to get out in the community and throughout my years at the nets we've had great players that are willing to get out there. means clinics philanthropy. anything that can truly make a difference in a child's life is what we try to do with our players with respect to our community outreach programs that affect. american basketball players at the start of a million years do they play basketball or they work do they come out there to work to do their work to make the world they go out there to play musical and i think when you say welcome it's themselves to the type of season and the rigors professional athletes have to commit to i think they do it for the passion now obviously they make a good living at it but you have to be passionate about it to want to work at it and to be the best and i think we have some of the greatest athletes in the world
12:55 am
better representing the n.b.a. absolutely no question so so so so you would say though that for them it's first of all it's a game so so so first of all they are playing after that they think about what they're going to be paid and about the pension plan about whatever but first but but but but first point it was a very a game that they have been playing when they were kids and they're still playing when they're millionaires very very passionate about the game and i think that's the that's the driver for what they do and then what comes along with it is the fame and fortune you know what i think is one of the biggest mistakes in russians or simply basketball is that in soviet times we never said were we pretended to be amateurs we said well they do get some money but but but but this is a game there are amateur amateur sportsman but today nobody says play this is work they work you should work better look they do say they he's playing well since he's working well well i think this may be the problem that that game. is going away
12:56 am
for from the big sports in russia and this may be the key to too many problems that we could be very well i mean so it should be though i'm not here to witness you know what you're saying all i do know is that you know i'm fortunate to work for the n.b.a. . you know as they see you know the nets and i get to see some the greatest athletes every day do some amazing things and they do it because the passion they have for the game so so so you are managing the game absolutely well this is this may be the key to success thank you very much and all the best leave much thank you for coming in just a reminder that my guest on the show was a breath your c.e.o. of new jersey nets and that's all for now from all of that if you want to have yourselves part of my point if someone is the moment you take action into the next bank just drop me a line i'll hear not at the t.v. dot are you and let's keep spotlight interact movie back with more of those phone call and follow what's going on in and outside russia until then stay on r.t.

state hoping to dispel all allegations of its military use despite growing international pressure triggered by a top iran's atomic development some experts think the west war rhetoric is misguided. there is no evidence that iran is developing a nuclear weapons program there is only evidence that iran has a nuclear energy program which it iran's says it does there is no evidence that iran is violating the nuclear nonproliferation treaty all of these facts are in contrast with israel in the united states by the way which if these were justifications for war there would be justification for war against us but of course they are not and this crazy media madness leads us down the same path where we all begin to assume that if iran does have a nuclear weapons program then we need to nuke it and nobody can prove it doesn't the president himself claims not to want war with iran but suggests that it's up to iran to cease its probably not existant nuclear weapons program or the blame is on

the current state of affairs b.b. how muscular a factory worker from russia's euros region has been absolutely indifferent to politics until recently that there are people who don't want revolution or against rocking the boat and want stability and for us stability means little used to the much promise he made headlines after a televised q. and a session with the prime minister where he offered to come to moscow and help early street protests shoes the need arise of these things you can point signs of civil looked at the almost anywhere in russia for example this campaign has decided to hold their own presidential election unofficial of course anyone can cast their vote simply by choosing their coffee with an image of a relevant candidate on its phone this is the new ground for russia where shaping the country's future has become everyone's business and could lead to being stalked . so it seems you're out of your mind you're not the students to freeze out there.
