market why not. find out what's really happening to the global economy with much stronger no holds barred look at the global financial headlines kinds of reports. we're talking about the right economic liberty services the right someone to earn an honest living in an occupation of their own terms well that sounds reasonable and it sure sounds like a good way to get the ball rolling on the road to recovery if it weren't ensnared in a lot of red tape from regulating flower shops to funeral homes we'll show you how silly some laws can be and who is actually benefiting. for twenty six years tony has been kidnapping children interest. it's a grotesque story that's been splattered all over the mainstream headlines brought to light by a documentary that shows one side of a complicated story we'll show you how humanitarian groups are of the warring
5:01 pm
alliance between charity and politics and actually advocating military intervention . and if you thought the relationship between israel and u.s. politicians was cozy i tell you see what they have their sights set on next i'll give you hints like camera action. good afternoon it's friday march ninth five pm in washington d.c. and christine for russian our team. all right let's start with the economy jobs numbers for february are out today as you know they are laid out plain and simple for you the u.s. labor department says it two hundred twenty seven thousand new jobs were created last month and the unemployment rate daid at eight point three percent a lot of people speculating more people entering back into the sort of looking for a job unemployed category which is why the unemployment rate did not go down but i
5:02 pm
want to turn now to a complaint of many of the actual job creators some of the difficulties that they face when they say their idea is there the money is there but the accessibility is and always many companies cite harsh regulations as the biggest barriers to getting their businesses on the ground there are of course environmental regulations and zoning regulations but what about those other laws that are in place are to correspondent liz wahl looks at the bureaucratic waste that sometimes gets in the way of progress. america months considered the land of opportunity home of the american dream or the entrepreneurial spirit thrives which is all that the pass now it seems a ridiculous bureaucracy has people jumping through hoops to start a business in the building entrepreneurs are useless things for no. yes many business owners are finding today tanya edwards and bill main own sags in the city
5:03 pm
and the heart of washington d.c. the important thing is before you get on make sure the green. they guide their customers on tours throughout the nation's capital be a segue i want to bring you think ford running a lot they're doing is illegal because they don't have a license to speak to tourists. for ninety days for not having a large but he believes he shouldn't need a license to talk to people. who prefers the. constitution. and they're not alone in having government bureaucracy to keep their business afloat want to become a florist in. new orleans you must pass a test some say is more difficult than the bar exam to become a lawyer are completely subjective test was evaluated by other florists who were going who you were going to be competing against or if you want to build a funeral home in st paul minnesota but the government is forcing him to spend. that he goes in and doesn't meet these are just
5:04 pm
a few of the many occupational licensing cases the institute for justice says they're fighting against we're talking about the right to economic liberty here this is the right of someone to earn an honest living in an occupation of their own trimming so how are these laws able to get it back to lobbyists and special interest groups they infiltrate politics on the federal and local levels urging lawmakers to pass regulations that benefit them and keep the competition out there results in america growing increasingly regulated and i think one in twenty occupations required a government like that. it's one in three and all this red tape is costing taxpayers billions the interior department is in charge of salmon so they're in freshwater but the commerce department handles them when they're in sake what. are your gets even more complicated once they're smoked. but it's no laughing
5:05 pm
matter a report from the government accountability office shows billions of dollars spent on bureaucratic waste and the federal government all the lyall president obama vows to fight unemployment by creating jobs it's not my message to business leaders is simple. ask yourselves what you can do to bring jobs back to your country and your country will do everything we can to help you succeed but what the government needs to do say many business owners is get rid of all the red tape that's creating hurdles reaching economic success and maybe too much regulation that's choking the life out of the u.s. economy. and washington liz wall our t.v. all right so we've been does an important topic how much of these laws are necessary and how much are bureaucratic wastes of printing the founder of surviving dr t.v. george i mean they're having your hey there george on charges let's look at it in the one nine hundred fifty s. just one in twenty occupations required
5:06 pm
a government license but today it's one in three what you think is going on here. well it's just a government growing out of control these bureaucracies are monopolies and government is the cancer that just will not grow until the us stop growing until it kills this country and i've talked to many of my subscribers that watch my channel everything from truck drivers to dentists are just sick of the regulations they're not only hurting small business owners they're hurting the people trying to get the jobs because there's less jobs because there's so many regulations to get those jobs so let's take this for example i think it's a great example that you bring up here truck drivers on there was a time when truck drivers were allowed to work and work and work the more miles they covered it the faster they get to their destination the faster they can go to the next topic the fact is if a truck driver decide that i don't need to sleep tonight i want to drive falls asleep at the wheel and get to you know an accident where and that's a situation that happened over and over so the government comes forth with
5:07 pm
regulations you can only drive eight hours a day or nine hours a day or whatever it is. you know there i think i would argue there needs to be a fine line i know a lot of people conservatives libertarians like to argue the government should regulate at all you know let business is take care of themselves but don't you think there are some lines that need to be drawn here. well i mean those those lines could be drawn by the courts if if the business does something that the they could be sued upon by someone else sure other businesses would take notice it's just it's an issue about freedom you know are we going to have freedom in this country or we're going to have over regulation and the problem with this regulation is a lot of the times it's coming from the business owners themselves that are trying to limit competition so in the end that's just higher prices for you and me it hurts all of us the best thing from my point of view is to have choices have multiple businesses now the business does something wrong you can choose not to buy
5:08 pm
from them or you can sue them in a court of law so there are you know without all this regulation there still are consequences for businesses that don't do things that people agree with for example you don't work in dryers to arden knowledge and go to sleep i think it's a really good point i know that that it's really popular where you are in los angeles and also here in d.c. we have a you know the whole food truck movement and a lot of the regulations that have been put into place have been by you know long term restaurant owners that are cozy with lawmakers and don't like the competition and oftentimes there are the winners what do you think needs to be done george to make it so that just because you're a wealthy or longstanding restaurant for example you don't get to just don't leave the competition around well we need to we need to stop the overreaching arm of a lot of us controlling our government i've read articles and seen videos of people
5:09 pm
that have visited washington d.c. and our democracy has been hijacked by corporations big companies that come in there and push huge bills huge legislation and are the you know they're behind the scenes creating all this over regulation so that small businesses can't be started in this country so we need to have a ban on all. well logging it we need to bring congress accountable to the people that vote for them and we need to house some sort of ban and some serious consequences of logging i just there's no point to lobbying i don't agree with that and i think it's hijacked our democracy and our free market system and i think there is a lot of people agree with you aware that unfortunate thing and a lot of situations as a lobbyist have the money and the power and the power to overturn things that are certainly not have put themselves out of business here's something that was interesting and i think listen mention this in her report the government accountability office reports that one hundred billion dollars every year are
5:10 pm
wasted on you know and bureaucratic way through in the federal government and we were talking about. you know some of the businesses that are in place but then there's the government don't you think we already have thousands of people whose job it is to regulate the regulators why is this much money being wasted well this is the g.a.o. is coming out against some of the waste that goes on in government. article from dr coburn and i like to quote him you actually says we're spending trillions of dollars each year and nobody knows what they're doing the executive branch doesn't know the congressional branch doesn't know nobody knows do you think they're turning a blind eye and they don't want to know or is it just not enough people to deal with the problem with that what do you think it is. once again it's like it's like a cancer you give government a chance and you're going to grow and grow and grow and the left hand isn't going to know what the right hand is doing and that's why we're having all this overlap
5:11 pm
explicitly in the military budgets you know. different departments of the military are paying for the basics same basic services of a good share so you know i would say they're doing it in a mean way they're just doing it in a way that is just ineptitude and the only way that we're going to bring this country back on track is to have a whole thyra sale of the federal state and local government i'm talking about a fifty percent reduction in government spending well there is certainly at least one presidential candidate that would probably agree with you that seems to be ron paul's message and a whole lot of other people that at least look at what's going on and see as you say an attitude but certainly just some things that really could be changed and save this country a whole lot of money towards how much our founder of survive and thrive t.v. joining us from los angeles thanks so much. still ahead here on r t it's the documentary stirring international outrage about uganda's lord's resistance army
5:12 pm
that's not completely accurate coming out well fact check the film. pepper spray which is burning dries right right i mean it's like a derivative of actual pepper it's a food product essentially. it's much stronger than anything you'd be by absolutely zero dollars and sometimes even stronger than any one of the four you ever put you know. what drives the world the fear mongering used by politicians who makes decisions to break through that sort of if you had made who can you trust no one who is your view with the noble mission receive where we had a state controlled capitalism that's called sessions when nobody dares to
5:13 pm
ask we do our tea question more. all right let's go now to a video that's gone viral you may have seen it on the internet or you know at least seen the a link for it floating around i know that i watched it along with what was at least by this morning seventy million people it's a moving video and a well produced one that i will show you a clip. for twenty six years has been kidnapping children interest. turning to girls and sex slaves. and the boys in the child soldiers. all right so according to the group's website coney twenty twelve is a film campaign by the group invisible children that aims to make joseph koni famous not to celebrate him but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice now it's hard to find anyone who wouldn't
5:14 pm
agree that joseph kony is a bad bad man but the film seems to advocate for more u.s. involvement and direct military action president obama has already sent in one hundred combat troops to try to get rid of just of kone which is in no uncertain terms the u.s. government using resources to take down and kill a man or another country so we want to talk about some of the implications of the release of this video especially considering how many people have now launched it i'm joined now by marcel carty a hip hop artist whose cd out is called revolutionary minded hey there marcel let's talk about this video seventy million views and counting twenty twelve now the fastest growing social media video campaign we've ever seen i want to get your thoughts on this. well i think that is an excellent excellent propaganda piece and not for the reason the jewels of connie is not a bad man that he's not guilty of these atrocious crimes against humanity because
5:15 pm
he certainly is but we really have to ask ourselves the question why the sudden interest in uganda why the sudden interest in africa and when you're calling for military invasion or intervention in a sovereign country we really really have to question the motives of the united states we have to question the motives of the european powers and certainly of invisible children this organization that put together this documentary now when you're calling for a military intervention in my opinion it smacks of the white man's burden basically saying there's this evil man in africa that african people are defenseless they cannot rise up against him on their own and they need us to come in and be some white saviors in uganda you know i think it's very interesting also that six million people have died in the democratic republic of congo in a little over a decade why have we not heard about this how come most people when you ask them will not be aware of this holocaust well it's because the united states has benefited greatly from this proxy war in the congo every cell phone every computer
5:16 pm
needs called him in order to function so of course you won't hear about it you know and i think we can learn a lot from the recent conflict in libya the recent nato intervention there about how to really address and put this in context there was a humanitarian intervention in libya and what's the result of that what's been the result for black libyans for example we just saw last week video footage come out of black libyans being thrown in zoos and being forced to eat all libyan flag by these so-called rebels these darlings of the west so the let me ask you this concern lars i'll just because you just brought up like several interesting points so let's let's look at libya and a lot of people at the beginning of your answer you said you asked the question why do people all of a sudden care about uganda and i think that. you know sort of another aspect of this story is the social media aspect is you know they care about it because they saw it on facebook they didn't see about it on facebook before now that they have
5:17 pm
they care but this is interesting because in libya there's oil there is a u.s. interest in getting involved in making sure that territory that country is stable and whatever that means to whomever but so just talk about this i mean there's no interest that we know of for the u.s. to get involved in libya i was sorry in uganda and yeah. you know president obama has already sent troops and this film the goal of this film is to try to get more talk a little bit about that i mean do you think there is in fact a u.s. interest. most definitely i mean it's no coincidence that just a couple of years ago all the oil was discovered in uganda but also a key component of this is the demo excuse me the people's republic of china and this has to do with the entire world concepts at the moment for example the u.s. is very interested in knocking down the syrian government very interested in nothing down the iranian government after syria syria is basically the domino they
5:18 pm
have to take out to get to iran but the u.s. if you look at obama he's really talking more and more about the u.s. being a pacific power which means after syria iran and you can go for china you know possibly russia as well in their final showdown because if they want to europe or the world they want this world to continue but china has a lot of contracts in africa china has become a very appealing partner for a number of african countries because it's not involved in africa in the same parasitic way that the united states is involved with these multinational corporations from europe are involved they actually provide much better terms which you know is really more about mutual cooperation so i think it has a large part to do also with countering china's growing influence in uganda and throughout africa that's an interesting argument i haven't heard that one yet what do you think i mean if the u.s. did get you know stay on top of this and decide to get more involved what impact do you think it could have in terms of bringing stability to what is very much right
5:19 pm
now a conflict ridden country. well it would bring stability is going to bring stability under imperialism is going to bring stability under you know basically subjugation to u.s. interests and you know they are going for this we see it because afrikan was launched a couple of years ago this the u.s. african command you know they make it very clear that they are very interested in having a deeper wall and of course everything gets clouded in humanitarian rhetoric that they're doing things for the people of african reality you know this is the united states has never intervened anywhere on the face of the planet for the interests of the masses of people there's always a geo strategic political reason for their involvement same thing in uganda i mean this is going to continue to bring plenty of misery to the people there here's another very important fact the united states they work hand in hand with the ugandan government which is itself accused of major crimes against humanity which is a point about the video that was in pointed out they showed
5:20 pm
a very one sided view of things but the ugandan government is involved in putting the colli people in concentration camps all with the backing of the united states of course you know so any stability of that region is going to be a stability of exploitation and oppression and that's how we're almost out of time but i do want to talk about some of the impact of this video again as we said seventy million people and counting have viewed it and if you turn on the t.v. today just about any of the cable networks many of them were covering the story and many of them were doing so in a pretty positive light i want to show a quick clip that we saw on c.n.n. from piers morgan be on if this happened in any other country it would make world news you've taken twenty three fears and nine years of our work to say this is important these children's lives matter and we need to get back we need to understand and we are waking up and changing the world. so what do you think i mean it is the mainstream media doing a good job of sort of painting that as a propaganda piece or is that. you know not telling the whole story. well the
5:21 pm
mainstream media should do is interested in human rights talk about a bush twenty zero bush is easily the biggest war criminal walking around freely in northward across the planet he's a recluse possible for the deaths of at least a million and a half iraqis that for dwarfs anything the jewels of kohli is accused of you know in obama's a war criminal to listen to be honest about this you know he's a nobel peace prize winner but he definitely should have received that. you know i guess the message here is that it's ok to kill it's not ok to kill children unless you're the united states or your israel and then it's suddenly just fine it certainly is an interesting perspective there always good to have you on marcel cartier a hip hop artist in our studios in new york thanks so much thank you well earlier in the week we gave you a look at what went on at one of the largest conferences here in washington a pac the american israeli public affairs committee it was in town as it is every
5:22 pm
year and featured speakers including u.s. president barack obama israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu and israel's president shimon peres now after leaving washington president peres actually headed west to the gold to california to rub elbows with some of the most influential image makers in the world he took a tour of google as the personal guest of the c.e.o. and also visit visited facebook's northern california headquarters and he also said facebook could even be a realistic way to achieve peace in the middle east so we want to show you his new facebook site. my. our president perez's facebook video there as far as the schedule today is meeting
5:23 pm
with none other than steven spielberg and will be hanging out with going to biggest hollywood producers directors and scriptwriters this weekend so we want to know what's the relationship between israel and hollywood the talk about that with john your time a professor of political science at the university of chicago yell for co-wrote the book the israel lobby and us foreign policy. hey there don let's start here with a large jewish community obviously in hollywood about what do you think is the relationship here between israel and hard work. well the fact is that israel is deeply concerned about its image in the united states it's. and it's because of its brutal occupation of the west bank and because of its treatment of palestinians and the ghost states. israel. in recent israel is beginning to look like it's. it
5:24 pm
in the car soon as the president of israel is really government is going to great lengths to try and clean up their image and do every. increase in the state. so it's no surprise that someone like sharon careers who is the good cop in the let you know government has. to the industry and. only will do everything he can convince them that israel is the good guy in the region and the instant response to what. so. many faces is that this is not true well in the age of the internet it's very hard for netanyahu and for prayers to discourage us what's the point and i'm not so sort of israel using hollywood and we do apologize we're having as a teeny bit of issue with your audio here but you know you're saying israel sort of
5:25 pm
using hollywood and using the influence and connections it has there to help it improve its reputation i know we recently had asked blumenthal a writing fellow at the nation institute here in our studios i want to play just a little bit about what his what he said his take on what's going on here pro israel supporters in california playing the same role that pro israel supporters play across the country they donate to political campaigns to ensure that democrats and republicans do pretty much whatever israel wants that and that's especially true for the democratic party where at the base of the democratic party there is increasing dismay and discontentment over israel's policies so what do you think professor mearsheimer do you think this is also a time to try to win over some of those people on the left to who are starting to question some of israel's policies well for sure i mean i think everything max says is true but israel has a significant public relations problem and that problem is only going to get worse
5:26 pm
with the passage of time because the occupation is going to continue you're going to end up with a greater israel you're not going to have a two state solution you're going to have a greater israel and israel is going to control all the way and between the jordan river and the mediterranean sea and that greater israel is going to be in a perth type state it's going to look a lot like south africa. and more and more people recognize that so the israeli government is doing everything it can in hollywood on the west coast and his mic stand all. over the. tree and i know that can damage them occasion and i know that you've actually done extensive research and have written a book on sort of the power of the pro israel lobbies as well as in the influence of the politicians i know that with you know president obama has been accused of not being friendly enough with israel of not automatically following a packed agenda but going to all of you tell us what we're finding in terms of that
5:27 pm
pretty strong relationship and the impact it has on policy was the first point that i would make is that today real any united states have fundamentally different interests on two issues of great importance one is the conflict with the palestinians president obama is in favor of a two state solution and prime minister netanyahu does not want to just takes. on a rant prime minister did you know wants the united states and districts nuclear capabilities . and. in the world that president obama wants to do is start a war or with the other country in the arab and islamic world so. question
5:28 pm
is what does the israel lobby do in this circumstance does the israel wabi side with president obama were does it side with prime minister netanyahu as we point out in your book and this is clear from what happened earlier this week in washington in almost every case i did states and israel are at what are the lobby sides with israel against the president of the united states and this of course is what's happening here even though there's been a pretty interesting poll that have come out that show that the majority of israel would not back its hear second point about involvement with iran would not back on military action against iran only nineteen percent of the country backs that if the u.s. isn't on board with that so i think that as much as you say israel does support you know the jewish lobby of the u.s.
5:29 pm
on his part israel. there are some other you know things they tell that are being discussed look at the point is we're not talking about israel percent we're talking about in that you know government and it you know government runs israel and in it you government is in a position where it can arrange and if it is well. to do so there's no question there is no there there actually lots of israelis and their national security elite former heads of the sun records the you know. who are her boat was. obama's great fear is that mitt you know who and his defense minister. for or. who were running in ited states into a war that the key dispute. is on our saima we are out of time do appreciate you being on the cell politic as for the audio.
