civilians by u.s. soldiers just weeks after the burning of the qur'an but military personnel ignited a wave of anti-american sentiment across the country the top stories the. international news and comment live from moscow with twenty four hours a day as the violence in syria rages on the u.s. and its allies are now reportedly considering all options including direct military intervention that's despite warnings from the pentagon with the american top brass saying the cost of starting a new war will be too high dozens of reportedly been killed across syria on monday and into the death toll believed by the u.n. to start up over several hundred thousand the international community has been unable to reach a consensus on how to act ever since the bloodshed flared up a year ago here and security council foreign ministers are meeting in new york to try to break the. all of these were important as the latest ones from the big apple

. russia's foreign minister sergei lavrov did address the media following the meeting saying that the u.n. security council should be guided by the basic principles and interests of the syrian people he said there should be an immediate end to the violence and a cease fire is an absolute must but he said one point of view will not prevail within the security council there house to be compromised there has to be some concessions made for all parties to agree on the text of a resolution mr lavrov said the security council can and should get its act together but any decisions that are made must be sustainable and must be according to the principles of the u.n. charter and he does this issue should not be a violation of international law and now the u.s. and european countries have been pushing for regime change in syria over the past at least half a year russia and china use their veto powers on two separate occasions because
3:03 pm
they said they would not support regime change in syria or for any other country for that matter they said syria should not be a repeat of what took place in libya mr lover when he was a addressing the media also said that when it came to resolution surrounding libya they were violated and language was undermined russia would not allow that to happen again but mr lover of said that russia is committed to supporting a resolution that would call for an immediate humanitarian assistance in to syria but he rejected accusations that russia is the sole country that could solve the problem in syria could could make everything get better or worse he did address his critics when it came to this issue take a listen it is not all those people say it's ricin depends on which i would love to she says she says you know the russians or the russians and the world disappears.

and i would also like to know to hold that the united states can legitimately resolve the newbies crisis but there it was really a conflict or. stalled for drug trafficking for all of that is what we all understand that the days problems of the world cannot be resolved by the desire for its you with insistence even action by one country to roll you have the u.s. and european allies trying to get taxed in any resolution that puts the blame on one side of the conflict in syria the assad government and that is not something that russia or china will support if it's a draft resolution that strictly solely focusing on humanitarian assistance that will most likely push through. a number of key staff at al-jazeera the arabic channel of resigned over the television stations coverage of the syrian conflict as you left accuse the terrio network of politicizing news and of bias against

president assad correspond has more. we receive information now about the reported resignations of key employees in al-jazeera office and they are claiming that the channel has a very provocative stance and has been involved in agenda sating biased reporting these resignations include the managing director of the correspondent and the producer and specific reports that we are hearing particularly from the correspondent is that al-jazeera refused to publish pictures of armed fighters clashing with the syrian army and in addition also ignored every field reined him on a new constitution in syria by comparison the channels coverage of events in bahrain was minimal it's has practically ignored what has been happening very. we are now receiving some kind of information that the channel was involved in fake coverage and sit ups and as you can well imagine the same thing alarm bells to the international journalism at gender because al-jazeera was said to have is
3:06 pm
a channel that was a mouthpiece of freedom and change it was supposed to be a channel there was a revolutionary voice but increasingly we have heard critics say that it has become a one sided voice for could tarries government's stance particularly against the syrian president bashar assad and our viewers many of them will remember that almost miraculously that was the word that was used by critics last year al jazeera was granted a license to broadcast in the united states and this is after it was initially refused such licensing rights and this has made many critics to say that those granting was because of the channels change in terms of an agenda setting that is very much pushing the agenda of the qatari and western governments that are calling for military intervention in syria. bureau chief joe resigned from the channel eleven months ago citing what he claimed was a lack of professionalism objectivity and thought that he believes the qatari

stations reporting of the arab spring revolts was political. i know did not have. i do believe that al-jazeera and other channels were not balanced in dealing with events all are responsible for instance with respect to the events in syria in bahrain we started to invite guests for america we criticize the regime in syria and support to be made by regions and people who justify any intervention this is unacceptable because of the domination of the political agenda over these channels the ritual policies were politically oriented. frankly the arab coverage of the events in libya and syria was misleading and here. i see it is frankly things are now unveiling and i hope some channels fabricated events footage guests and so on this is shameful the audience have started to realize he's got a pretty asians started to see reality in some countries which is quite different from the reality pictured by these journalists. coming up later ditching the euro

find out health spanish shopkeepers are coming up with creative ways to keep the country's economy alive and spain struggles to stay afloat amid a massive debt crisis a lot of analysis from what part of the way from this one r.t. . but first the afghan parliament is demanding a public trial for the u.s. soldier who gunned down sixteen afghan civilians he turned himself into nato authorities after the massacre on saturday in kandahar province west of the dead women and children it's unclear what led to the rampage in the u.s. marine is in custody meanwhile witnesses reportedly claim there were several gunman one of them drunk washington has apologized for the incident of the afghan president says it's unthinkable but taliban is vowing revenge and nato forces in the country are on high alert let's get some reaction now from british m.p. jeremy corbin joining me live from london well thank you very much indeed for joining us in your position which included you taking part in a parliamentary debate in westminster on. afghanistan today what's come out of that
3:09 pm
debate. well it's come our words come out of it is that the british government is obviously in deep shock over the loss of british soldiers last week taking the total british losses to four hundred four and then this us soldier that went on the rampage and killed a large number of people and i don't think any home should be allowed to work with impunity and it's perfectly reasonable that the local courts are asked to try some use after all apparently committed murder against a group of unarmed totally defenseless innocent civilians but the point i made in my question to the defense may minister was that this is a tragedy it's not the first and will be the last we've had many people killed by drone attacks we've had wedding parties have tacked on to a very large numbers of civilians attacked in my view with western forces in afghanistan for a long night live their usefulness if there ever was any and it's time to go and
3:10 pm
not wait until two thousand and fourteen cause the british government but most of the hill where in afghanistan what is the sentiment view among british people about this campaign now and will there be less appetite for it after the weekend's atrocities. as much as as the days go on because western forces in afghanistan were in tune with the purpose of crash it was some of been probably couldn't do that for a very long time and indeed it was a good start anyway apparently and the narrative has changed we were told it was going to be victory we were told it was going to be a completely different political system in afghanistan and they're now talking about leaving when they've trained the afghan army and they america talking about leaving in two thousand and fourteen or sooner it's very hard to explain to anyone why british or any of the soldiers should die when there's an endgame in sight there's an end date in sight for what possible good are they doing there it's time for more to come true it wasn't just about bin surely it was also about the taliban
3:11 pm
ruling a country in brutal fashion and. there was always the judy that u.s. and british forces had to move in and change the situation is that not right. well there's a kind of dramatic irony almost poetic justice in this during the narrative of the questions is asked to do the defense minister was there are three questions for him he's at one point as an aside said he was very pleased that was there a taliban office opened which could be a point of contact with the taliban and i know when we went in there in two thousand and one the taliban were the sworn enemies they were the people have to be defeated and destroyed and that's really why we invaded the country and we now are saying the point of departure might be when we have better talks with the taliban we'll all that political dialogue could have happened ten years ago thousands have died seventy billion pounds of british taxpayers' money has been spent and goodness knows how much more the united states and other countries to achieve precisely what to leave the country isn't better off of the us led alliance. well
3:12 pm
we were told that human rights civil rights democracy would be improved and i hope it is and i hope it will be good he said. surely political change in any society comes from within not from without there is no record of nato bombs bringing about peaceful democracy anywhere but it seems to be britain's huge expenditure massive incomes for the arms companies and security companies and sadly great deal of corruption behind it which is a legacy in afghanistan of history. and over the weekend a little earlier you said that this should be addressed by a local court in afghanistan do you think though that there will be pressure for justice to be sought in an international court and would that be right you do you really believe that a trial should take place in afghanistan. while you can understand why the afghan people should say that somebody has come out of a us base and wantonly killed
3:13 pm
a number of people and they are saying well why should the army be allowed to act with impunity in my view is that we should either be tried in a local court or should be tried in some kind of international tribunal but the idea that this could be built and sold as a military matter by the military force really is highly questionable and it would be questionable in any situation in any circumstances and if there is to be any confidence in the. judicial system then surely this is the time to demonstrate there is. you talked about the intervention in the country all those years ago now talking about peace talks happening is as if it's been a complete waste of time this campaign if we do see some sort of peace negotiated between the taliban. and the afghan government but what about when those nato allies in the us leave do you think the country will be stable enough do you think the afghan people will be allowed to bring stability and security under twenty
3:14 pm
fourteen or after that i should say. the outcome isn't going to be good whatever happens if the forces then the opposition to the presence of western forces increases the danger of crowell attacks and all the mistakes that have happened over the past few years gets greater when the forces leave yes there is to some degree a vacuum there so there has to be a political dialog between cars either and any other political forces within that country and that surely is what should be being promoted at the present time to be idea that western forces are going to stay there forever will merely increase opposition to them and i think the events of the past few days with this dreadful killing and the reprisals are already happening and the. issues surrounding the caroll of the treatment of the koran by u.s. soldiers surely does indicate that the western presence there is a long lived any usefulness really expect from london thank you very much indeed
3:15 pm
labor party m.p. jeremy colvin thank you. very well. well french president nicolas sarkozy has threatened to pull out all the european visa free shane get agreement unless the toughens up measures against illegal immigration thousands of tunisians were allowed into the e.u. following the arab uprisings last year when italy granted residents permits to refugees fleeing violence but some think that sarkozy is simply trying to win more immigration votes in the presidential elections. in two thousand and seven he won the election in part because he siphoned off some of the votes that went to the high rates he is campaigning on many topics that are the topics of predilections under fire right to a group as far as you can out of a very broken people for the first round of. balloting in a recording that fire rages why powerful break in are and the people who voted for
3:16 pm
him five years ago and are going to vote for him this time around they're going to open fire right because they feel they were. deceived during the five years by. not being tough enough and immigration aside since there's a crisis the populist great he's using immigration as a kind. of the real problem of immigration hasn't moved one way or the other with good sarkozy just rhetoric in order to tract the populist xenophobic vote but i don't think it's going to be very productive because the war against on the fire rate the more he loses in the center. once again flared in spain with demonstrations across sixty cities against spending cuts and new employment laws protesters say the new labor laws designed to revitalize the economy simply make it easier and cheaper for employers to fire staff spain is one of the highest unemployment rates in the eurozone but as the country struggles to
3:17 pm
stay within the euro one town is encouraging of people to go back to the old days. through feeling of that year a three piece at the moment so it's no surprise that in some places currency notes is set in greece spain joined the euro more than a decade ago if you thought you'd seen the last of the old spanish. you wrong with a can can such a tough economic situation some found such as the village my oldest santiago have been encouraging their customers to read their old that there is a unique way of generating business and like of the year a country spain has no expire you date for exchanging its old cassette is a fact is that the native that there are more than a billion euros worth of an exchange to set is still in the country so some towns are run schemes to once again except the one giving new life to the old currency. we saw that some other towns in spain had run this scheme and it worked very well there so we thought why not try it here has been great for the economy of the town
3:18 pm
was like owning a business in the current economic climate. it can be very tough and very doring i spend a lot of evenings making my own flies for fly fishing it keeps me entertained but it was really worth it being created certainly worked for this town letting the more than a million because that is so than six thousand euros. it's not just sounds a village is it considered things as they turned its economy here in the heart of the capital we come to a store that's found a way to avoid using cash altogether. even certainly is a good sixteen still that works and a point system theory tells us that you bring in kids get points for days good and you can then purchase other things in the store and best of all no cash needed it's own idea i think it's interesting person should be able to order from something that you no longer need and something you do well i actually really
3:19 pm
like second hand clothes me and my husband lost our jobs recently i wasn't completion of therapist he was in construction so no really cheap with. all the solutions that perhaps that temporary reprieve to the ongoing crisis the are proving that even in time economic times businesses can find ways to flourish and at least make even more happy customers. being finance ministers from euro zone countries are meeting in brussels tonight to discuss final approval for greece's second bailout spain's deteriorating economy is also on the agenda with more details and talk to british u.k. france party member of the european parliament poor little he joins me now from strasburg what is expected of course about second bailout will be handed out to greece the greek finance minister nicolas sarkozy they say that is the end of the country's woes do you agree. well i suppose it is if you live in
3:20 pm
a parallel universe you know it's not the end of greece is where all of this really just the beginning because in serious trouble i mean you just got to look at the amount of people who are on the streets demonstrating or performance suicide rates or op the minimum wage has been caught there's not homelessness in the country at the moment all the european union is doing. is it. the cradle of civilization to head towards revolution because that's what will happen if we continue with these rules that are three measures so those austerity measures aren't the old so then what is the answer how do you get greece back on that recovery path. well there's only one answer comes out of the order all together gets back onto the track. the value sets its own exchange rate at a competitive level get its exports moving because that's if we could europeans that's what we'd be encouraging both look these are the these bailouts aren't about saving greece they're nothing to do with the greek people all about saving the beloved euro project i mean. my boss at
3:21 pm
a private meeting the bank of america look at a moments ago she let the castle for the bag when she turned and said to him yes the simple question which is right you are likely to go she turned around and says we want to go because of greece goes all this will go to portugal needs to come out and spain's as well so therefore we're seeing the collapse of the eurozone is what you want to see. it's not what i want to see but i think it's exactly what's going to happen the idea that greece spain portugal and all these mediterranean countries could exist within the same euro zone used a country like germany was completely farcical from the start and we said it we predicted this it was impossible so the only way that this thing can move on is for probably the nordic countries to form their own euro zone and for the sort of countries to fall out altogether to go back into their own couldn't you know how easy is that how can you just pluck new currencies out of thin air is there there surely are barriers to to an exit mechanism on any they're always trapped within that it's unrealistic to think you can just suddenly create
3:22 pm
a new economy. well it happened before and we just got to look at what happened in czechoslovakia in what was the creation of the czech republic and slovakia you country code and so you support that they won't allow these countries to leave or not they will continue to if they will continue with more bailouts and wolfgang schauble german finance minister isn't talking about a second bailout he's already talking about a third bailout so this hundred fifty billion euro was nothing more than a sticking plaster over the big gaping economic you mention interesting word a little earlier revolution which you were referring to over the greek situation but we've seen of course those protests now in spain what do you make as a politician about the political ramifications and the way the politicians don't seem to be listening to people's concerns. well as i said at the top of this interview the political class almost live in a parallel universe the problems that you have in athens now will no doubt spread to madrid and lisbon and let's not forget the spanish economy is far bigger than
3:23 pm
the greek economy and its train goes then italy will also go as well in the whole thing will spread right across the southern mediterranean the only way for these countries to move on and go forward and how to say if we could europeans have been couldn't you include it in these countries to fall out of your altogether and get back into their own currency but when you even mention that revolution do you really think that we will see government stop and we will see serious widespread rest not just in greece spain but other european countries. well i think two things are happening i think you have serious problems in the sort of the mediterranean states where you just look at what's going on in athens at the moment the people are out on the streets and you would be out on the streets i mean if you had a democratically elected prime minister who was removed and you're across this person his place i mean look imagine if that happened in britain where david cameron was removed and we have real clear chemical or even peter mandelson parton's place the people of britain would be out on the streets so i think that a serious will rest in the southern mediterranean and what you're seeing in the north is the growth of your political parties will know that right before the new
3:24 pm
european elections in two thousand and fourteen yet future elections we've seen of the technocrats taking power in for example greece but what about later on we'll see more elections what sort of political party will we see emerging then in this very much trouble european. zone this euro zone european union. well i think what you will see is heaven forbid you might see a shift for the far right if they continue there on this land because people have very. good and not just one happy about the economic problems but also all happy about open door immigration policies which seem to be promoted by the european union so i think you will probably see a lot of skeptics right across northern europe in particular. and european elections in two thousand and fourteen and i just don't know what's going to happen in new york because maybe in greece it's gone beyond that maybe you will end of that revolution because people are very very unhappy and he pulled out all very interesting here thoughts thank you time you came to prince party m.e.p. live in strasburg thank you. on our some other news from around the
