today on our t.v. brick by brick of five fast developing nations are laying the foundation for a new international banking system and that's not all they're doing well take you to the great summit in new delhi another making like ten thousand dollars. they were munched your big deal when they're making you still like twenty times more than i am makes me angry and it's that anger that's making many americans question the u.s. economic model and a country where the gap between rich and for has never been more wide is it time to go back to the drawing board to rethink our fiscal future. for age understand.
4:01 pm
look forward to the way we're going. and he's the only woman on. solution. which we plan to try to change a baby's seventy six but this presidential candidate sure knows how to get the youth all fired up and they're not the only ones marching in lockstep with ron paul military veterans armed with support so so what's appealing about him and what will happen to his voters if he doesn't win the nomination. it's thursday march twenty ninth four pm here in washington d.c. i'm liz wall and you're watching our team. well it's a meeting of the world's five fastest growing economies they've come to be known as the brics that is brazil russia india china and south africa and they just wrapped up their annual summit. and new delhi the alliance is proving to be
4:02 pm
a force to be reckoned with that make up forty two percent of the world's population a quarter of its land mass and a g.d.p. that is expected to surpass that of the u.s. in just three years and what they're growing influence on the world economic stage they want to have more of a say and world economic affairs and it looks like they're taking matters into their own hands artie's the issue either has been following the summit and brings us the latest from new delhi. that's right it was today was the fourth annual brics summit here in new delhi leaders from brazil russia india china and the newest members to the brics group south africa all met here in delhi today basically these are the world's emerging economies the leading world of emerging economies and they have an academic partnership and they discussed many things today including the possibility of an alternative to the western led financial
4:03 pm
institutions like the international monetary fund and the world bank basically what was discussed today was the idea of a development bank which would be a joint brics there was also an agreement that was signed today between the five countries to give out loans in their national currencies and this is a big deal because many people are saying that this is a sign that these countries could be moving away from the dollar as the global reserve currency and perhaps looking at a brics basket currency you know earlier this year the brics countries actually discussed even bailing out europe from its financial crisis so what you're really seeing here liz is a move away a shift away from the last and these countries because of their growing up in on the clout they make up forty percent of the world's population and in the next
4:04 pm
eight years analysts are predicting that they're going to make up fifty percent of global g.d.p. g.d.p. so basically they're saying hey we're important and we're going to come up with new solutions and new ideas when it comes to global economic institutions that kind of a what what prompted these countries to get together is the fact that they are the five fastest growing economies in the world but they also did discuss politics at this. do you see this becoming a political partnership as well as an economic partnership. that's an excellent point liz and we are seeing that you know these countries are basically saying that because they have a growing economy they don't have to listen to the west when it comes to major world issues like what's going on in syria actually russian president dmitri
4:05 pm
medvedev had a bilateral meeting with chinese president hu jintao and india's prime minister manmohan singh and one of the things that they all discussed was intervention in syria basically all of these countries are backing kofi anon plan for a cease fire they want peace in syria but both russia and china have repeatedly said that they don't want president assad to step down and they actually voted against that first u.n. security council resolution on syria iran it was another topic that many of these countries discussed today both india and china are saying that they don't and russia as well by the way saying that they are not interested in sanctions on iran they don't think that that's going to accomplish anything so all of these leaders really reiterated in all of their meetings today and in all of their statements
4:06 pm
that you know intervention isn't going to work putting pressure this is what's true and lead oil embargo on iran is not going to be effective so they're really starting to take a stand on political issues as well now since of these economies are growing much faster than that of the u.s. and much faster than europe they want to have a bigger say and global financial affairs do you think will achieve that. absolutely you know i mentioned earlier a few of the big big talks here was about the possibility of a joint brics big development bank that could serve as an alternative to the international monetary fund and the world bank you're also seeing this discussion of a possible alternative to the dollar there's obviously this euro zone crisis that's going on in the world and these countries are trying to figure out ways for them to
4:07 pm
do business amongst each other and increase trade amongst each other there was also that agreement that was signed as i mentioned before that would allow loans to take place between these five countries in their their national currency which is another thing balik move away from the way that things have always been working in the past i guess you could say so really lots of energy here in new delhi the meetings there are just wrapping up and actually everyone's really looking forward to seeing a lot of these plans come into action in the next year as bric summit the fifth annual bric summit twenty thirteen in south africa. thank you so much for keeping us updated over there that was our t. correspondent preassure either well let's return to the economy here in the united states after wall street a lot of the world toward financial collapse almost four years on millions of
4:08 pm
americans are far from recovered and the majority unsatisfied with the economic situation today and according to a survey published in the financial times two thirds of americans are unhappy with the current economic model aren't his honest aasia churkin reports from the big apple. not make. out thank god. their kids past but this rule still applies wall street they keep up it's here of america's economy. its recklessness set off a financial meltdown overweight more than just one crash we've been christian ever since fundamentally it's an attack on the rest of the world and the bankers. are leading the army traditionally a symbol of a bullish economy employ national might the statue near wall street has for many become associated with a system of economic injustice the power of the few over the many for main street america pays for wall street with me. so they're making like ten thousand dollars
4:09 pm
last in their bonus they were last year big deal and they're making still like ten or twenty times more than i am that makes me angry he is not alone according to a survey published in the financial times two thirds of americans are unhappy with the current economic model i'm a high school student and my admission seems to be going into college take going today not get a job or instead it seems to make sense to me there and in the restaurant business his entire life for the last two years homeless with a passion for puzzles and the yankees he sleeps in an abandoned jail in new jersey about problems you know were it with incarceration i've been locked up in everything and sometimes i don't get is how. they're able to do some of the things their debut down there. that they don't get you know that they're not held accountable for it just doesn't make sense and sometimes it really could affect or be very for free you have no problem with people being angry with my criminal acts
4:10 pm
because i did it. and convicted of white collar criminals sam antara says he's milked what he could out of the us economy i committed a massive securities fraud during the 1980's we fleeced investors out of five hundred million dollars and we cost twenty five hundred people to be unemployed so i'm part of the bad part of the system you feel bad about now but i got yes i feel bad that i got caught phil says he'd do it all over again as politicians today care even less but the system is flawed in the dark of the night these guys are legislating a country away from the people to the leads. among the. most potent. while the bright of day those beaten down are left to raise their demons on their own it's tough to get started where we really don't have a place to stay. this is.
4:11 pm
the future doesn't look so great. but on the plus side he go downwards further so. that's that that's probably my only saving grace. and if you churkin are hurting you. i will talk more about the growing frustration over economic injustice and just like reckon activists and writer at daily coast joins us from our new york studio welcome to the show jessie so i know you like many americans today are unhappy with the economic model is it something against rich people do you have something against. the against rich people my problem is that people use their vast wealth to distort the system to benefit only themselves and just last year in america ninety three percent of all the wealth that was created went to the one percent while the rest of us are being sold austerity sold shared sacrifice the other guys get to live on it in an earth while they promise us
4:12 pm
a pint sky that'll happen one day when we die well i kind of want that little bit of freedom here won't still live so it sounds like people might not necessarily be a great at the rich but angry at how some people got rich. oh absolutely and you take the bank of america c.e.o. prime when this guy got a seven time he was compensation was resultingly six hundred percent at the same time while bank of america was being investigated for fraud they paid a massive settlement to the american government for a quarter for these guys were committing fraud and here's the best part there you went down fifty percent now i work as a cashier register and my register came up short fifty percent i would lose my job at bank of america the c.e.o. gets a six hundred percent bonus and the average person doesn't understand that it just makes them really angry and they deserve to be angry so now there seems to be this sentiment that those that are responsible for the financial meltdown are not being held accountable and that probably has to go hand in hand with the fact that this
4:13 pm
survey two thirds of the of americans are now unhappy with the current economic model but it's a model that's been around for a long time so why are people so unhappy with it now well i think we've got some of this idea about thirty years ago that government was the big problem and the corollary answer to that is that only big business considers free and this trickle down mentality has basically said just let the corporations write their own rules just let the base police themselves and all the prosperity will come to everybody thirty years later none of that's work it's been a total disaster and the standard of living for the average person is either stagnant or decreasing but for the wealthiest one percent it's been better than ever so it's a matter of just believing what your eyes tell you is my life's the stagnant water gets worse rather which are just enjoying record amounts of caviar cover tax cuts for the rich don't be surprised when the average person is pretty angry you know another thing about this survey in the financial times that people are saying that
4:14 pm
fairness is what the system is lacking these days people say well can income is not distributed fairly so doesn't this go against the american ideal that hard work is a reward. well that's a thing her work should be rewarded but take a look at wages in america ve been utterly statement since the one nine hundred eighty s. they said for the wealthiest one percent in the years between two thousand and two thousand and six the average american saw their annual income decrease while for the wealthiest one percent went straight through the roof you know we have a system in america will become of the rich because the rich are the ones that make all the campaign deletions to political campaigns so what do you end up with it's a date the american congress this senate allowed to pass subsidies for profitable oil companies to be renewed at the same time the republicans in the house repairs in a budget that shifts the entire burden for the collapse on the shoulders of the working class while giving worker tax cuts to the which yet again is our politicians are
4:15 pm
going to keep punishing working class people in pain during to the rich this should not be surprised when the public has lost voter faith in their ability to govern now clearly just say people are are angry angry at the system that an interesting thing i found on the census bureau report came out recently that shows income inequality is the biggest problem and states that typically lean republican and that's the party that talks believe about income inequality is not ironic. oh no it's done entirely on purpose and when you pass a tax code that over proportionately gives extra benefits to the rich and shift the burden onto the regular working class people you're not going to point those things out this is why these guys are focused on straw men like socialism and obama's purchase of a kid because they're so beautiful and to the interests that are benefiting from our stilted in equal system they would rather never mention it oh let's not mention the obvious problem that everybody's dealing with you know what the real problem is sal alinsky and that's what that sells to their base because their bases on gluten
4:16 pm
just of washing reality for the average working class person who knows that the rich have a better never while we're being sold austerity and suffering it's a total farce in reality is going to check these guys real quick so you think that they are under in a way that they're not aware of what the situation is really like well it's also just a regional issue you know where i grew up upstate new york is not too unlike some of these states with republican governors in the fact that your neighborhood stays the same from year to year so you don't see how great the wealthy haven't because you just don't participate in their lives this also hurts the wealthy too because they don't realize how bad our suffering is they think we sound like we're just complaining they don't know watching my family members die because they take access to health care willy makes me angry so i think it's a generational issue but it's also just a disconnect with reality the wealthiest one percent don't deal with peasants they can eat and that's why they just don't understand how our lives work and that's also why they're the least capable of governing in the bed if it interests of the average working class person there are literally too busy fleecing us and lying to
4:17 pm
us to care about what the differences and it makes no surprise to me that in the southern states in the states are dominated by public politicians they have literally gotten nothing good misery for voting republican for thirty years straight because that was what was on the agenda gas say. that was gas electric activist and writer at the. well the maryland primary is less than a week away and as expected the g.o.p. candidates are hoping to convince primary voters of what is usually a more liberal leaning state to swing their way on tuesday's election and one specific group candidates like to appeal to is young voters and plenty of them showed up last night to support the oldest candidate on the ballot texas congressman ron paul paul held a town hall meeting at the university of maryland which recently came in first place and a nationwide contest to recruit members for the group youth for ron paul two
4:18 pm
thousand and twelve and they got more than two thousand and had almost as many show up for the event that was packed last night and as our tea correspondents christine present reports they were public and president presidential candidate got rock star treatment. i was. a rousing welcome was during crowd and the stage set for a rock song the butt of rock n roll concert it is not wrong hall ladies and gentlemen the r. who calls it a town hall meeting they call it a revolution. was our goal should be to enhance liberty that should be what we're all of our one hours before the event the line stretched around the building with students and other ron paul disciples who made the track to see what seems to many an unlikely hero especially for such
4:19 pm
a youthful crowd although he is up there in age you could say i think that he has youthful idea of people our age understand that we have nothing to look forward to the way we're going. and he's the only one that offers an actual solution an actual plan to try to change that ron paul's young followers say they all march to the beat of the same drug especially when they're trying to drown out the drums of war i've lost a lot of buddies you know a lot the way crossed over the seas in the wars and stuff and i would just like his name was we go to other countries and we say well this is what we want you to do and if you do it will proper your dictator and we'll send you a lot of money but if you don't do what we do we're going to kill you and go on you . the us now why should we have a third option why should we say why don't we just mind our own business the regulatory veteran supporting ron paul more than any other presidential
4:20 pm
candidate and on interventionism policy is one that resonates here for ron paul and his supporters the military and the economy go hand in hand. probably one of the first things on my agenda. ron paul speaks about bringing back the gold standard and cutting the deficit by a trillion dollars mostly by eliminating much of the government including the departments of energy commerce and education middle class is shrinking student living is going down and we're engulfed in radical ideas to some but not for these enthusiastic fans who also say the lack of support at the polls is irrelevant it may not be about this election and may not be about the next one but in kind of twenty years from now when you know where the core voting group you know ron paul's message will be carried on and whatever the strong liberty candidate is at that
4:21 pm
time will probably has a good chance of winning the white house. after the show the royal groupies remain waiting for one final chance to show their rock star somewhat the ritzy coliseum here at the university of maryland seats i mean two hundred people and just a few minutes ago it was now ron paul has vowed to stay in the race at least through the republican national convention he says he owes it to his delegates and reminded everyone here tonight that a lot of those delegates have not yet officially been counted. in college park maryland christine for is now are two. well joining me to discuss ron paul's popularity among young voters is mary wells said areas of ron paul supporter and volunteer organizer for the ron paul los angeles liberty headquarters nice to see you mary so ron paul he hasn't won a single caucus yet but he is not giving up is he and i there is fans.
4:22 pm
no he's not giving up we're only halfway through this and ron paul is in this to win this and actually it's incorrect liz he did win the caucus in the virgin islands and since then in many other states he's had the strongest showing as far as delegates are concerned and we know that that's what actually wins the race now at this point mary many people would say that paul ron paul is likely if not likely that he's going to make it to the white house and if that ends up being the case what is next for ron paul and his followers and this whole movement well like i said we're only halfway through this lives and ron paul is not giving up and neither are the people giving up on him. as you just saw and showed you know the crowds are growing three to five thousand or five you know are showing up every everywhere he speaks and it's growing every day and as people are waking up and
4:23 pm
realizing that the democratic and republican parties are private organizations members only who are running our elections people are realizing that they are being taken for granted and they want change so every day more and more people are waking up to this and it is a revolution and it's an intellectual revolution and ron paul's campaign strategy has been brilliant actually it's genius and so just because the mainstream media is saying that he hasn't got a chance that's completely unfactual and you just wait just watch see how many delegates show up for ron paul at that convention and a lot and so how successful would you say that he has been mary and changing the dialogue and mainstream politics because many say that that's kind of one of his biggest accomplishments so far is his ability it's her bring attention to these topics that are overlooked. absolutely he's done
4:24 pm
a remarkable job bringing out the things that really do matter you know in these debates the things that these other politicians are talking about none of them represent change on policy only one who has ideas and solutions and economic plans to restore america now not thirty years from now now thirty years more of the same and then let's hope that seems change you know ron paul has plans to change things right now and we just saw and christie's package there that hearst heard her piece there she went to that ron paul event last night and he has a huge following for young people so does this show kind of a shift there or changing attitude in america and maybe maybe if he doesn't win this time around what the voters are going to be looking for in the next let's say twenty years. well ron paul does definitely dominate the youth vote as well and he has probably the strongest support from the self declared
4:25 pm
independence which are the largest voting bloc in america. declined to state voters but i saw a mixed crowd all the audiences of thousands that are showing up to see him and hear him speak all over the country right now i'm seeing very mixed crowds. you know people project that you know this is only the youth that supports him definitely the youth are more awake to what's really going on in the political system and our economy paying attention and listening to what's happening in other economies around the world if our economy our country is about to bail out europe things like that affect us and we're paying attention to that but a large block of voters. from a. elder demographic don't know this they don't have the news i speak to voters every day and i find out that some of them don't have access to the internet the news and the history of the facts that they take for for truth are not always true
4:26 pm
what we're being taught in school and what our media tells us and we just take for fact and believe them is oftentimes just completely in factual just like the way that they're trying to portray wrong paul at the bottom of the chart as far as this election is concerned he's not and that mary it looks like you are definitely keeping the faith with ron paul and we are getting farther and farther along in this election process so at this point what will it take for ron paul to win the nomination it takes everybody showing up people show up to the polls talk to your neighbors family friends and coworkers everybody needs to get registered to vote as a republican i'm in california we have a the ron paul campaign has launched an official web site ron paul los angeles dot com and there's an issue to www called register for wrong the goal is to register
4:27 pm
twenty thousand new republicans by may twenty first so that they can vote in the june fifth election i'm seeing new voter registrations come through every day people are defecting from the democratic party from people or from independents and libertarians and every other party people are willing to come over and sign up in order to vote for ron paul this is the only candidate who really does represent change and solutions and it sounds like for ron paul supporters like yourself that he is the only option if you weren't aware that domination where the what his what his supporters turn to. well the thing is his supporters are already right now running for local office. at all levels i think almost everybody i know is currently running for office so people are getting involved he's woken so many people up his ideas. have manifested into something people are taking action now you can't sit around and let others make decisions for you have
4:28 pm
a right mary want to make a change thank you very much it's a pleasure to have you on the show i was always very just out of time i was very well senator ron paul supporter and volunteer organizer for the ron paul los angeles liberty headquarters well you see you right back here and a half hour. limitation
