let's not forget that we heard in the far cry three zero right here on the earth. lead i think the rocket readable and funny well. we never got the live shows neighborhood can safely get ready for the air freedom. but the city would like. to welcome the alona fell you know get the real headlines with none of them are the problem with the mainstream media today is that they're completely disconnected from the viewers and for what actually matters you know viewers and so that's why young people just don't watch t.v. anymore if they want news they go online and read it but we're trying to take those stories that people actually care about and transfer them back in t.v. .

but there is one thing that's been consistent in the ten years of war in afghanistan so when the weather turns the fighting. over the weekend a major record native attack took place across afghanistan it was reported thirty six taliban members dead after an eighteen hour standoff between u.s. led nato and afghan forces and the taliban members of the a.p. the militants targeted buildings that were still under construction but with people inside as well as nearby parliament and school buildings it was all part of a spring offensive by the taliban or one of their spokespeople it was two months in the making now the coordinated attacks took place in several locations including kabul logar province. to province and according to one of the captured militants the attacks were linked to the haqqani network from the afghan pakistan border i mean attacks were just deadly for the militants they also left eight casualties for
6:33 pm
the afghan security forces whose efforts were praised by president hamid karzai but who also quickly called out nato for having a serious intelligence failure and an effort to deflect blame but there is plenty to go around on sunday john mccain took the opportunities have blamed the troop drawdown and president obama's withdrawal timeline for the taking. it every time the president announced another woodrow his military commander said it increases the risk that's what. actually what you're seeing there is the years of mounting failures and afghanistan and i'm going to disagree with senator mccain because i think that the evidence is clear i think higher counterinsurgency experiment has completely backfired and the pentagon knows it and if you remember we've had a colonel gangle davis his report he highlighted how inconsistent the line is that sending more troops is going to bring more success what actually happened is that the more troops that we sent him the more violence we saw so this is an old tired
6:34 pm
line of thinking used by people like mccain and the reason all of this is even more part of a problematic of course aside from asking why it is that we've done blood and billions into a war here for ten years is because it cast yet another shadow over the question of what happens after we leave leave the line coming from president karzai as of the afghan security forces will be ready to take over and the shift is also slowly underway an agreement between the u.s. and afghanistan was just reached the other week that will require america to hand over the leading role in the raids to afghan forces and now a war is will be needed seventy two hours in advance from an afghan court but as retired military military commander lieutenant colonel tony shaffer pointed out to us the u.s. might have trouble following those new rules. i think you're going to see practical measures taken by our military no matter what especially when you put it in terms of what is military necessity and if you see an enemy running to our house you're not going to wait for a war and i guess you know one of the things look to see is how this is applying to
6:35 pm
the author regional level and i think you know it was you know within two months of its work i don't think it's going to work very well frankly. but those aren't all the notable changes and in time we're handing over more control to afghans they've announces they'll be reducing their security forces from three hundred fifty two thousand to two hundred thirty two q.b. two hundred thirty thousand by the time that u.s. troops leave and whatever he seems to forget is of course of the build up of vatican for as it was supposed to be part of the exit strategy but they're shrinking that who is going to be left in charge of the u.s. finally closes up shop now in the meantime we're going to start seeing a shift to more special ops teams as the drawdown begins and to kick off this transition the pentagon has just assigned a new deputy commander to jaison air force brigadier general steven clarke a special ops forces won't be there forever either so the closer to withdrawal that we get which is what is right and where public opinion is turning and more questions arise as to what exactly is going to happen once we leave. this week is
6:36 pm
stopped cyber spying week and a number of organizations like the a.c.l.u. the center for democracy and technology electronic frontier foundation and fight for the future are all getting behind the next battle over the internet on that's happening right on capitol hill now this is no longer about sopa and protect ip instead we're now moving on to this but now we've told you about this legislation that's working its way through the house it was introduced last year but now it's really getting some traction and basically cispa stands for the cyber intelligence sharing and protection act so what happens is under the banner of cyber security this bill would allow private companies to share your personal information with the government what happens here is that the legislation doesn't specify which government agencies can actually get their hands on your personal information so that means that the the n.s.a. those agencies that probably would want the most means that they're fair game it also doesn't say what exactly the government can do with private information once
6:37 pm
they have their hands on it so we have to ask what exactly is going to happen next . we will get back to that story with you we're just waiting on our guest in the meantime let's move on. our guys it's time for tonight's tool time war and tonight this distinction goes to republican congresswoman at virginia fox for her comments on student debt last week see foxes on the radio show of right wing renegade g. gordon liddy pretty standard media appearance for conservative lawmakers like fox and during this interview a sixty eight year old congresswoman from north carolina made observations about tuition observations are about as useful young people today as instructions on how you twist take a listen. i worked my way through seven years and never bored me. board
6:38 pm
a little bit of money because we both are totally on our own i have very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with two hundred pound the knowledge of bad or even eighty thousand dollars of bed because there's no reason for that declaration of independence life liberty and the person i'm packing and. you know sit on your butt and have it dumped in your lap. now before pointing out the obvious are a number of factors that lead us toward the congressman with tonight's tools i'm honor for one fox who is the chair of the house subcommittee on higher education and worker training who displayed and its lack of sympathy for the plight of young adults in these tough economic times even for a conservative republican then there's the fact of the congresswoman counts for profit college college officials as some of her campaign committees biggest donors and that's according to open secrets or turns out they've given her forty thousand dollars for the upcoming election alex secret boxes
6:39 pm
a land of opportunity remark doesn't really hold this true the day when she was growing up the new york times reported yesterday that children of immigrants or recent college graduates are increasingly leaving the u.s. to return to their parents' homeland and one of the reasons my view because college graduates are raking a lot less money than they used to now according to the center for college affordability and productivity more than thirty five percent of college graduates were underemployed in two thousand and eight and nine hundred sixty seven only about eleven percent are underemployed the graduates are struggling even harder for less compensation not just waiting for rewards to get dumped in their laps and don't forget this is after graduation after they've racked up a student loan debt and graduates are having such a hard time getting work than you think it's going to be really easy for undergrads to get a good paying job and so this is all become the main reason the. time he's since he graduated from u.n.c. chapel hill the cost of going to college has exploded but it cannot be on the hands
6:40 pm
of a freshman trying to shock and for the first time since nineteen sixty eight when thoughts graduated the average inflation adjusted cost of tuition room and board at public university has increased more than ten fold the average real cost of tuition and room and board at private university increased by a factor of almost thirteen income hasn't nearly jumped by that much only by a factor of seven but fox didn't really seem to pay too attention much. these facts when she was going on her rant instead she chooses to suggest that the thirty seven million americans who had one trillion dollars an outstanding student debt last year are just plain lazy and will make the statement even scarier and that this woman is the chair of the house subcommittee on higher education so she's tasked with ensuring that student loans continue to be an engine of social mobility really important characteristics to ensure a true legend of opportunity rather than the economic truck that they've become for so many after all being a full time student is tough a lot of people out there have to work multiple jobs and the ones that do often end
6:41 pm
up dropping out and yet even then the two thousand. and linda gates foundation found forty five percent of students at four year universities worth over twenty hours per week and over eighty percent of dropouts interviewed by the report so that they quit school because they either couldn't afford it or they struggled to strike a balance between learning and earning but the thoughts builders steam views on any sort of back whatsoever now no she just ranted at struggling graduates like a stereotypical grandparent moaning about walking fifteen miles through the snow just to get to the bus stop so for that congresswoman foxx graduates magnitka luvvie from tool time university. well still to come tonight we'll have a fresh those of happier for you hillary resolution columbia and new diet has a bra is a look like hospital. story

media today is that they're completely disconnected from the viewers and from what actually matters to those viewers and so that's why young people just don't watch t.v. anymore if they want news they go online and read it and we're trying to take those stories that people actually care about and transfer them back in t.v. . our g. is the state run english speaking russian channel it's kind of like. russia today has an extremely confrontational stance when it comes to us.
6:44 pm
guys time for happy hour and when he's busy evening archie producer jenny churchill and jim hansen retired special operations master sergeant and military blogger a black i thought net thanks for joining me guys thanks for having us let's start ok so we started off the show make fun of the mainstream media because really all they were talking about at least this morning was the secret service prostitution scandal going on in colombia totally forgetting what they were actually discussing at the seven americas but there's also another really good. point says they will this secret service were getting hookers meanwhile hillary clinton secretary of state was parting it out as well take a look. hillary clinton lets loose in colombia it is now time for the polish side bar check out the secretary of state having a beer with some female leads at the cafe go back and then early sunday morning
6:45 pm
according to the opposed the group orders a dozen beers two glasses of whiskey and bottles of water. just a glass there with what i like not even like shots of whiskey just. after all i like i'm i'm really glad that they weren't ordering like daiquiri but they were actually going for it i like appletini. beers and like. totally going for it i got to ask you we have to ask how many people were involved when you think about the headlines that you see and you see clear in colombia hookers secret service i live here do you think it's really worth bringing you believe jeff. tillery is more like you a risky game of pictionary you know a wine cooler and i really like she was part of me so i think yeah i really like that but i guess this is ok as long as there's no hookers yeah involves i mean if you don't how does that work right so the secret service they're in trouble because
6:46 pm
they weren't representing america properly even though hookers are totally legal there in colombia. but you know what he's saying ok drinking is getting ahead here so why don't you get to deal dancers like you were breaking the law in colombia they were just doing something that the other breaking the rules. they're not supposed to do that's they want to do that in their off time which they're not supposed to have as one thing so i just really like our producer christine's come this morning that hillary letter scrunchy down. the way that we decided to suspend the story i guess you could say well as we move on talk a little bit about lobbyists before obama became president he made a lot of promises he spoke a lot about lobbyists a lot about how he's going to change the culture here in washington i think we have some clips to remind. i'm in this race to take tell the lobbyists in washington that their days of setting the agenda oh oh.
6:47 pm
then when i want my white house if you look at my truck work not only do i. should love. this campaign. your voice is that it plays in the united states hands. all right so we have covered countless stories on the show of ways in which obama has exactly both filled these promises have been a lot of exceptions some waivers of filmmaker people other people that managed to. register as a lobbyist and then waited the two years period that they had to say good bye from the white house to listen to this one review of campaign donations and white house visitor logs basically show that some of the biggest donors to the obama campaign shocker they get invited to the white house and they're probably easier to get in
6:48 pm
and then release them they often bring guests and these guests are often happens you just be a lobbyist so if you're a big donor you get a friend and if you're a lobbyist for the big donor friend then oh yeah i also love to that part of that report show that obama one of his big donors who brought a lobbyist had an event that was like seventeen thousand dollars a plate that obama came to it's a fundraiser and obama at that event ripped on lobbyist influences in washington. being a campaign well they called it a good program i love that you don't take money from lobbyists but guys who have buddies who are lobbyists curing satchels of cash out of the white house you know all that's just i mean i personally honestly believe that lobbyists are the core root problem in this country and that until we figure out a way to stop people from being able to just poor money and a lobbyist who can influence our lawmakers nothing's going to change and i honestly
6:49 pm
honestly believe that they're at the root of everything there's a lot. yes the problem or the lawmakers that are the problem because they're not you know because they get no influence by going to be out in their sleep the deal for the reason that they're so influenced is because everyone in office is just working towards their next election they're working towards that next thing and. if you go with. the bottom line is ok sure money to it's politics but anybody who goes into politics was tainted to start with so i don't think it was a stretch for a lot of these guys you know to go from taking money in one place to taking money for their vote but one of the things that i thought was interesting is that one of the lobbyists they got to go in there was an entertainment industry lobbyist and this was all happening last summer before that last summer and it was happening last year i think right before we really saw sopa pipa and all this take off but that's one area where i guess they didn't win because the internet came out we will
6:50 pm
be talking about that this week about this anti-slavery spying we think and. i'm really curious as to what you think about this. i think the bottom line is the government does a fair amount of looking what you want to who really looks your stuff it's google everybody with a g. mail account you realize google reads every e-mail every google block every single piece of commerce you do google watches tracks and so it's something that government scares me google and it's so funny because google came out this week saying that facebook and who was the other one were really well i was there was one of the co-founders of the little surrogate really what he said is that he's never seen the internet have as many you know there never been as many threats to web freedom as there are now and he mentioned governments but then most likely put all the blame on his competitors like facebook you know well said that google would not have been able to exist had facebook been around where google first started but i mean what's one thing you know when google sells i guess you could say to
6:51 pm
advertisers then you start getting annoying ads. why is that a.o.l. sorry but when they can just hand over all their private information to any government agency and this legislation doesn't even specify what that government agency is allowed to do with it i think that's the scariest legislation we've seen yet i think any time the government gets involved regulating anything it generally goes south gets overdone and this is just one more example soulfully the internet will rise up again let's tweak it dominate this thing and shut it down i do hope that it will rise up again and we will be covering why that this week ok so. who doesn't want to be either i guess the problem i would never really want to be president because in that miserable job probably the only really good day you have his inauguration day when lehrer every everybody loves you think obama remember that good thing was. was that he. was. a god
6:52 pm
good. oh so mitt romney obviously wants to be the president but he's planning way ahead of buzz he actually dug you can get a perfervid status at a retreat basically in an operation to retreat following his inauguration as president for a price tag of up you are of fifty thousand dollars i mean who's going to actually be stupid enough to buy that now before the election well i just don't have to get a rebate. i'm not i would just want to know is dick cheney going to be honest retreat and is there going to be hunting because then i don't think anyone should find out what's really frightening and it's. a problem he's going to win no question about it you really don't have mayor i mean i can hear any president romney executives. you know it's not every rubio which is too bad out of it for him i predict a double x.
6:53 pm
chromosome or someone with extra meller. if they do another white guy another old white guy. i think it's going to be another old white i think it's going to be a hologram pale and i think it's going to be a hologram of ronald reagan that's going to run with romney. resurrected. i couldn't be bothered that people are the ones that are let's move on enough politics rosemont to some fun stuff actually really disgusting stuff this is so gross. there's an ad out there and it's importance of all about preaching safe sex and so the us organization called safer sex for seniors because we've done stories about this interesting plea as t.i. rates are skyrocketing like through the roof for senior citizens but there. has been all kinds of sexual. positions so i have an idea and i think that this is actually abuse of the elderly and so i think we need to
6:54 pm
see are you getting paid by the actors very soon i'll be don't know what they're doing they're easily influenced i think we need to start a new law i'm i will put it out there granny porn stock or any point like t.v. parent stuff granny porn it has to end that is unacceptable i don't want to see that that's this research on clothes on if you have to use a longer than a condom probably the least of your worries at that point that was. just other people just about and i have here i know. i'm sorry but the elderly are not on you tube watching that video the rest of us were subject to that and i'm now scarred i think possibly for life and i think they should never sell that pretty nation actually take back what i said before about the law they should just show that's a middle school student and we won't have teenage pregnancy anymore that. so the church will come up with fantastic ideas about that and i think this time
6:55 pm
ok i'm going to look at all right we're going to have. this new diet i mean people obviously will go to a lot of extremes when it comes to dieting i think especially before your wedding day but this one again is pretty close to like. but the diet she tried was no ordinary calorie counting program just says she would extreme spending eight days on a feeding tube part of an increasingly popular but somewhat controversial program called diet which promises to help you shed twenty pounds in just ten days. so yeah they promise twenty pounds in ten days what happens is you're fed a constant slow drip of protein and fat rakes with water which contains zero carbs totals eight hundred calories a day and. go through a process called toast. i don't like you would you want to lose your kids you what
6:56 pm
. are they going to look like you know yeah you lost twenty pounds and your husband no longer wants to marry bride of frankenstein he is what it looked like and the guy who marries her deserves her that that's a who is going to but a pointed leader of the rushers put our nose by society to look good on our wedding day is that women are willing to go to these extremes nobody cares you have to deal with the candidates for the rest of your life. nobody's going to look back and say you know what you look a little fat in your wedding pictures you really should have shoved it too. like no one's going to tell you they're going to say. something like twenty i see you again if you. play for the little light you get to have good looking wedding photos is that going to those ten days of misery are worth it like no i don't ever know that you know you're going to be fat again and all your honeymoon pictures like i'm sorry nobody's going to notice but also twenty pounds to have that thing down your
6:57 pm
throat for ten days i think it how will you i prefer you have to plan ahead larry saying this in our editorial meeting this morning it was you know if you have a dress and you have to get fitted and stuff you can't then just realize you're going to drop twenty pounds on your wedding day and think people still think it's called l work out like i mean this is the epitome of late like you can't. use healthy options and work out you. just you have to look like a charm you turn the trilogy and groan. go do it. all right. thanks for joining you guys tonight show thank you for tuning in ad make sure that you come back tomorrow alex think progress is going to be joining us for happy hour in the meantime don't forget to become a fan of the older show on facebook and follow us on twitter and if there's anything that you ever missed you can always catch the dot com slash neal and show these interviews as well as the show in its entirety there and coming up next is that me.
