president a president with the public housing tenants association is not only kansan choice armstrong and right now i'm going to if i ask for a round of applause for the san cisco housing authority's executive director mr henry alvarez the third good morning everyone. for those of you who don't know me i'm just henry when i'm running around in our communities no one no one's running around calling me henry alvarez or mr alvarez most folks i get the shake their hands and see what they're doing i just am so excited that you're here today rosa parks we've been working on this center for some time and today we get to give it back to the residents in this community and say thank you absolutely i think it's stellar it's awfully exciting we have a lot of dignitaries here this morning and i'm going to try to get out of the way

so we can get the program moving along so i want to take a moment to introduce the best mayor i've ever worked for our mayor ed lee. good afternoon everyone welcome the rosa parks community center. it's my pleasure to join with our police chief with our housing authority commissioners and the great work they're doing with henry alvarez our director to help open up this revitalized community center you know this center serves almost three hundred if not probably more than three hundred low income seniors at a really comfortable place that they call home and the center has been improved with a very welcomed hud grant that the housing authority was able to compete and win

almost two million dollars to revitalize the center to make sure it's modern to make sure the the accessibility issues were dealt with between the homes and the center and to make sure that this was the greenest center it could possibly be and then just a couple hours ago i also joined and hinton at the summit for technology for our seniors and people with disability and we announced there that all over the city we would have some fifty three centers that would be equipped with technology upgrades and accessible and broadband technology adoption and this is one of those centers as well we want our seniors to be connected to the rest of the world and we deserve to be this is the quality of life that we have in our city everybody gets to be connected. and so the improvements here that you've seen already are

fantastic not only are there accessibility issues that the taking care of the senior centers going to have the modernization with its restrooms with having enough space for other agencies to work from like women's ankan the presbyterian homes and some of the other. a senior serving facilities certainly right on the campus here in addition to better glazed windows to solar panels on the roof that will keep the air conditioning well to the rainwater harvesting that's going on in the center all of that to join in some of the most modern buildings that we have architectures of mine in the whole city so i want to thank everybody for being involved i want to again thank our housing authority commissioners for taking care of these properties for fulfilling a long time promise for joining with our department of aging and adult services

along with our housing authority along with all of our other partners the bevan dufty back there he is our director of hope and he's there taking care of business with our children youth and family as well divisions to all working together to make sure the quality of life is improved for everyone. you know i have been very lucky to be the mayor of this great city and i want you to know that. everyone has an opportunity here to share in the wealth and we're heading in a better direction and every time i turn around the state and feds they're cut in something to do and something to us and i'm going to work really hard with our agencies to insulate that her from ever hurt any of us because our success is if you and us work together and that we don't we don't cry every time something happens to us we get mad we close the door maybe we cry

a little bit but when the door opens we have a lot more friends to work with because we have to ultimately depend upon ourselves and we won't let each other go if we know that we're part of each other's family and that's why i want to be here and i want to be at every single one of our senior centers to walk them into the family of everything that we do and everybody in this city where they're living in bayview in the western addition in chinatown in our mission everyone gets an equal opportunity to be part of this great city no one should ever feel isolated at all and we will constantly work hard to improve everything word safety accessibility connectivity your future and our future by the way i'm here to look at a unit for myself because i'm getting old too i want to live with you that's the
