time for the business so clayton thank you. live from moscow we are online and on a twenty four seven i'm showing the student protest movement in the canadian province of quebec is pledging to bring thousands onto the streets of montreal to mark the one hundredth day of demos that's after their rally against hikes in tuition fees spiraled into violent clashes with police protesters ripped large slabs of cement out of the road and hold them of the officers who then responded with percussion bombs and pepper spray over three hundred people were arrested several dozen injured at the local government sort of stem the protest by adopting a new emergency law to restrict their rallies last week the canadian journalist michel boy who covered the riots says the law will do nothing but inspire further

unrest. oh seventy eight which is what that's it's all and it's goal is to con everything down it was established by the provincial government. in canada we have a we have a charter and one of the articles in the charter is the right to protest peacefully and people and protesters now are saying is that certain provisions of this new law are and cringing on the freedom to protest peacefully so people are in fact even to retaliate even stronger one of the most extremist groups has publicly said that it is completely going to defund i this new bill and is going to go against it it's going to continue protesting so it's going to be quite an interesting scene of events here we really don't know what's going to happen really until the until the government since down with the student organization since down

to talk. and a lot of us are here on our to we report on another outbreak of mass protests golfing the north american continent thousands of activists vented their anger at a nato summit in chicago saying they want their taxes spent at home not on the walls. and in germany rising petrol prices put the brakes on the public second all because optimism forced motorists to gear up for the worst those details coming your way. it's time for britain to come up with a plan b. this according to the i.m.f. if the country indeed want to survive the turbulence currently building in the euro zone the annual summary on the state of the u.k.'s finances also warns that unless britain eases off austerity could make the impact of future shocks even worse meanwhile in spain everything from elementary schools to universities have shut down as teachers and students strike together they're protesting against severe

cuts they say could deprive thousands of the chance of our higher education james a midway of the new economics foundation a think tank says austerity is only deepening the crisis. if you drive weak economy europe is collection of weak economies if you drive a weak economy into greater and greater austerity you don't make the economy stronger you make it we could still you know really this is one of the mechanisms that helped drive the great depression the one nine hundred thirty s. for germany to be insisting austerity now is leading only to stagnation inside europe it's making the crisis much worse than it needs to be because the only see the short term impacts already i mean if you take the the social impact in greece it's obscene catastrophic in greece used to have one of the lowest suicide rates in europe suicide rates there risen by forty percent over the last year you can see the social impact from one end of the continent to the other but it's the long term economic impact that starts here there are no realistic prospects recovery inside europe certainly inside euro zone there's always austerity is in place i suspect

what will happen is that you'll starts. increasing a long or a deadlock at the center of your with no clear agreement of what exactly should be done next. and in portugal international debt inspectors will be checking how lisbon is spending its bailout money rocked by unemployment and recession and to say the country has been brought to the brink by austerity but one of the world's most influential investors says it's best to be wary of whatever the creditors have to say these people always look at the world bank look at the i.m.f. look at everything they've said in the past fifty years they have never right about anything so it's very likely they would you would have that kind of a knock on effect because some politician in some other country is going to say aha i will say i will get us out of the euro i will save all of my poor me citizens then somebody would leave and then another politician would do the same and you would lose four or five countries from the euro which would be
11:06 am
a terrible shock lots of loss this would happen in the financial markets but if we survived the euro much stronger if you get rid of the people who are trying to spend other people's money then the situation would be stronger we'd all be better off you'd have a currency which could compete with the u.s. dollar. and as the eurozone stagnates amid austerity and debt the strongest e.u. nation is also slowing down quite literally fuel prices in germany are spiraling out of prison off explains drivers are having to reconsider how often they hit the autobahns. germany the land of fast cars high speed autobahns and rapidly changing fuel prices. petrol is way too expensive we don't have that much money these days and i think the rich well corporations are reaping a big profit but these prices are making me mad in this day and age when mobility is as important as ever there's no alternative either but one big part of this money flows to the government i think it's a giant ripoff. prices and gas stations can change four or five times per day both

jumping and dropping the first four months of two thousand and twelve alone saw a fifteen to twenty year old cent increase for one leader germany is one of the few places in europe where there are generous people and that's on growth if not all together so you can drive often pretty much as fast as he lets you but as fuel prices rise being aware worries me german drivers are so proud of could do some serious damage to their pockets a full tank of the cheapest petrol can often cost over one hundred euros and when it comes to big trucks filling them up with diesel could cost up to fifteen hundred euros making them easy bait for thieves during pit stops. for two weeks ago on the twenty fourth highway heading to hamburg they drilled a hole in the tank but the driver noticed and confronted them he came out and got beaten up even duct tape his mouth. gas prices depend on state taxes in germany

verge of economic collapse that's a bit later in the paper. and watch how you protest the new bill could see russian protesters paying the equivalent of up to fifty thousand u.s. dollars if they breach the lord demonstrations details on the way. it's ten minutes past the hour here in moscow and nato has reaffirmed its drive to pull out from a deeply unpopular war in afghanistan in two thousand and fourteen the decision coming out its biggest summit today just taking place just wrapping up now in chicago but there are fears though that the alliance will still have a significant presence in the country long after the departure deadline and diplomatic also continues between the u.s. and pakistan over vital transit routes in the country as artie's guy nature can explains. as far as the war in afghanistan supply routes have been the big concern on the summit there are vital for nato operations there as well as for the upcoming
11:10 am
troops withdrawal the route through pakistan still remains closed it was shut down around six months ago after a u.s. airstrike killed two dozen pakistani soldiers by mistake this summer as declaration says they're still working on a deal on a new deal with pakistan in the meantime the alliance relies heavily on northern routes that's a key area of cooperation between russia and nato because russia provides its airspace railroads and other routes to supporting our national forces in afghanistan the importance of that cooperation was also underscored in this joint declaration in their statement nato leaders were focusing on how they are getting out of a van is that because the war has become so unpopular drained so many resources most analysts describe it as a failure but there is a process that many are worried about and that is that nato is taking up a new role which has nothing to do with defending europe but in north america it's becoming an offensive force thousands of people took to the streets of chicago to

protest against what they see as an expanding war machine answering a journalist question president obama said he was quite happy with how chicago police handled the protests that raised some eyebrows considering scores of activists were badly injured here's my colleague honest. reporting from the streets of chicago. chicago under siege. the last couple of days have seen oceans of protesters thousands marching under a blistering sun to vent their anger at the military alliance wants to know that. this rally fronted by iraq and afghan war vets feeling betrayed by the system roadway their medals. after a minute of silence for those who perished in wars. all hell breaks loose.

that all of our news and updates always available for you online at odds he told com let's have a look and see what's waiting for you right now for example the group anonymous strikes again this time by exposing private data stolen from the u.s. bureau of justice. also online and gone in a blink president putin takes away flashing blue lights used by hundreds of officials on their cars for example what it might do for moscow's horrendous traffic gridlock. now the u.n. secretary general has called on conflicting sides in lebanon to restore order offered to people were killed in clashes on monday there have been several violent confrontations in the country between opponents on supporters so bashar al assad's regime in neighboring syria let's get more on this now and talk to. a political analyst and senior columnist about a newspaper in the beirut thanks for coming on today you are in the capital what's
11:15 am
the feeling is a is more violence on the way do you think. well the situation is very tense there are three perhaps three important elements that we should we should keep in mind one element is that there are some serious internal divisions not necessarily about who supports us against as i said it's more internal divisions between a group that is the south how did a group of the future movement for what's called the fourteenth march group that wants to overthrow the government because the government of mr najib mikati has taken a position a neutral position on the situation in syria and therefore i think this this division is very much mark was marked by the events in recent days and by accusations from the fourteenth of march parliamentarians accusations that were directed also at the army for taking a position that is pro position which is not not actually the case the position is that the government is neutral on the events in syria because of the positioning of lebanon that is a small country near syria which is
11:16 am
a larger country the second the second important element is the smuggling of weapons and guns into syria in support of the syrian opposition and this there are numerous reports recently mr shah friday in the past the syrian ambassador to the united nations had made a declaration to the security council that they have been you know smuggling weapons and money from lebanon into syria and there were numerous other reports also and then some people were arrested in relation to smuggling weapons and money into syria the third element is the interference in lebanese affairs recently and in a just a few weeks ago there was a visit by assistant secretary of state. jeffrey feltman to lebanon and he met with the fourteenth of march group and apparently there was some interesting discussion taking place on the fact that the united states supports the overthrowing of
11:17 am
president and perhaps this. actually points to a certain direction on the part of american policy to use lebannon as a base to support. all kinds of ways the overthrow of starting from lebanon and that that creates a lot of tension in the country and i understand i'm going to interrupt you but i like that you describe you describe the three fundamental factors as you say that's exacerbating the problems and levon on also describing essentially a trickle down effect how the violence and the demonstrations in syria are also influencing mindsets and attitudes in lebanon as well but if we can focus on lebanon for a moment the immediate neighbor as well of syria is there any chance you think that lebanon could eventually becoming gulf by a full scale arab spring there do you think. well i'm not sure about the term arab spring and i think that there are some serious tension especially in the north of the country where there are some islamic fundamentalists
11:18 am
groups that are supporting the fundamentalist group inside syria and. creating a situation that is that could drift into total chaos because they're defying the lebanese army and they're defying the lebanese official authorities and they they are armed and they have been shooting at the lebanese authorities in the north and they are supported by a group of parliamentarians that are part of the fourteenth march coalition and this coalition is also supported by the western powers especially the united states and france and great britain and the european union which has a wonderful story but you also talk about these western powers as as you say being involved in such a basically being influential in the ongoing demonstrations and violence there but what about the whole allegations about al qaeda al qaeda terrorists also being blamed for inciting unrest during the arab uprisings do you think those allegations
11:19 am
are legitimate and if they are then why would al qaeda want to cause widespread chaos in the region. well the ironic thing is that al qaeda and the western powers are seem to be the same the same group that is defying the lebanese authorities i mean this is this is a very peculiar situation and i think that many european and american allies warning that this is a situation that the. western powers cannot sustain because these groups these islamic fundamentalists groups some of them are affiliated to the movement or they are supporters of al qaida openly i mean no one can actually deny that and at the same time the united states and the west impossible at the fourteenth march coalition which is really very close to these persons who are supporting al qaida that's the situation on the ground and that's a very descriptive way of saying it i mean and you can check and the journalists can check for themselves and they can actually see and we have interviewed many of
11:20 am
these people and they have openly supported the movement or certainly certainly as you said as you say this discussion is a subject that requires a lot more time than we have available for us today here in our. senior columnist at the newspaper thank you for coming on the program thank you. now smashing a window or ruining a lawn during a demonstration you better get ready to pay a massive fine that is the essence of a new law approved by russia's state duma in the first reading with details aren't you sarah. well most gay protesters could be set to get hit where it really hurts and not in the wallets now this bill which is just causes first reading in parliament proposes raising the find that could be levied home protesters to hide thirty thousand of the protesters themselves and up to nearly fifty thousand dollars for the protest organizers now that's really
11:21 am
a massive hike from the current maximum fine which is around fifteen hundred dollars so a huge leap and this is being the first meeting the still to hold to go through the second meetings where some of the jainism revised possibly to see those very high amounts loaded in the third reading it will pass into law if that is going to happen over the next couple of weeks it comes on the back of the continued slowly very persistent protests we've seen taking place around the city now recently those two week low occupy style can just be pretty park in moscow and that caused a lot of anger amongst some of the local residents that now the government has said that they're aiming to bring. the military to these types of gatherings that now we've seen incidents in the pas just before the inauguration the protesters take apart one of the stages of withdrawing some of the pieces and in this type of civil disobedience of the government really wants to rein it and they say that this is an attempt this low to bring us the ability and security to these types of gatherings
11:22 am
and to calm the provocation but of course it may not salute the slums but the opposition here say that it's another me to intimidate the protesters and that in the feature this could actually increase civil disobedience at these types of gatherings. sara further porting right now more than three million people are jobless in egypt with the unemployment rate continuing to rise many are paying their hopes on change after wednesday's presidential election the first since hosni mubarak was swept from power last year and as artists are going to school reports economic hardship was not what a gyptian is expected after the revolution. mohamed some e.u. has spent most of his life living abroad he returned to egypt just in time to see the rouge unravel in the economy shrivel mama's real estate development business suffered a harsh blow during the egyptian uprising in the year that followed he struggled to
11:23 am
keep his company afloat we have a lot of money in the market the people all of us a lot of people just fled out of the country they never came back so we're there a counter so that we don't know where they are so we can't pay. and at the same time we have to continue our work so we have to put money from our pockets like money mohamed hoped in new rule would bring in new opportunities for investment but he says the economic policy of the interim government turned out to be almost as bad as that of the previous regime. would like to be treated like the big scare into print. we both pay the same taxes we go to pay the same duties jews so our costs of the end of the day would be at least in terms of what we have to pay to cover the reforms conducted by the now ousted president mubarak several years ago did bring a certain stability to the gyptian economy but since the revolution the country's finances are in ruins the currency is in jeopardy the people are jobless an angry
11:24 am
and the only way out seems to be in barring enormous loans from the likes of the i.m.f. it's just over three billion dollars that the interim government is asking for but critics of the idea say boring from the i.m.f. means being in debt not just financially but politically as well we do not like the interventions of the i.m.f. and institutions alive they have their orders and they have their own agenda that are controlled by. superpowers we're not a super power we had a very small power but we can act on our own we have money we'll need to know who the presidential elections just around the corner many of egypt's fifty million voters are being closer attention to the candidates because on the programs after all for many of them it's a make or break moment in the country's history and in their lives i believe of the good life from. me and my family with a lot of money and. a lot of other things. i'm looking for i'm looking to do

something for my keep. in cairo. and straight over to you there you are. going to start it's day three of trading for facebook in the us your facebook or you must be getting a lot of mail and friend requests oh not as many as you've already i would so i wish i could be nearly as. bad as the i wonder i wonder now is continue talking about facebook because you know you go away it is dominating the headlines a once again and that's because it failed to pop so they call it really didn't live up to the expectations the investor is certainly invested in it we're hoping for that i guess i was so drops of eleven percent today we've got five percent losses for the bros hyped i.p.o. that are certainly ever heard of solicit have a look at the u.s. stores and see how they're trading now they are indeed getting and that's largely because housing data beat expectations there's also encouraging sentiments coming from tyner as well as well as europe tool called stimulating growth that's all
11:26 am
helping to do you sense that in the morning session of the u.s. market i care let's talk about europe that when the topic now they are managing to stop off the organization the economic cooperation and development comes to its forecasts for growth in the eurozone got a thirty one point eight percent out on the dax also one point eight set up in positive territory today because of common currency was see how the currency is performing there what one twenty seven to seventy four dropping of a slightly and that's how the ruble finished up today is that money seagate against the u.s. dollar and the year i not talk about the russian markets is there are all that smoke through the week we saw losses of two and a half years. but right now today it wasn't. pretty flat to be fair i've got the my six point two percent down again for the office yes but it's unlike released so to speak let's get on to the stocks and see how they perform some of the biggest companies here moscow gas from one percent over a percent if we talk about rough stuff that i will one point seven percent up. a

largely because of the new appointment in that company who is this person well the so-called energy saw. now he supervised the country's entire energy sector in the old government and he's going back to roughness as the term and as a boss last year he was forced to step down from the board due to new rules preventing senior officials running state companies but the team was not given a government posed by putin in the reshuffle this week so he is now free to resume his leadership role at the country's biggest oil company and stay with russian news russia's highly anticipated privatization program is stirring interest well beyond the country's borders i'm talking about the london stock exchanges eager to get some business and we spoke to the head of the balls at the annual bt b. forum and he was telling us that russian companies are still ferry attractive indeed have a i do expect a number of companies to come here this is
11:28 am
a confirmation of the plans already announced over a year ago this is something that we conceived and which will be done in partnership with russian capital markets as well as the russian exchange interest is very high for a very simple reason europe still today has a lot of capital certainly in the private sector three trillion dollars of equity assets managed in london alone but europe doesn't have much growth so russia offers the growth we have the capital the expertise and the ability to make not only these companies richer in terms of capital but to enhance their international brand. all right go read that fits and i'll be back in about fifteen minutes our super many thanks indeed. all right i still to come on the program here well in half an hour is bill dog but before that though with so the headlines on the latest edition of the julian assange program i screw simply here on alt.
