7:00 pm
forget the green bay packers mayor tom bennett is going to head south with wisconsin governor scott walker in a recall election of historic proportions it's big money on the right versus big names on the left and only one can win will tackle some of the issues. and while the g.o.p. has crowned mitt romney as their likely nominee ron paul supporters are giving up their candidate a big win in louisiana has given them a much needed moral boost tonight we'll ask what happens to paul supporters when mitt accepts the nomination in tampa this summer. and ron paul may not be the republican presidential nominee but his libertarian philosophy is sure catching on
7:01 pm
to young entrepreneur is armed with a super pac are making political history we'll talk to them in just a bed. it's monday june fourth seven pm here in washington d.c. i'm liz wahl and you're watching artsy. well we are just one day away now before the people of wisconsin vote to save or dump governor walker that's been a fierce battle with serious report repercussions for workers' rights which republicans are rallying and pumping enormous amounts of money behind walker his opponent militant milwaukee mayor tom barrett doesn't have the cash but significant political support behind him and one of the few recall elections in u.s. history it's politics gone wild and wisconsin and as it stands the latest poll has governor walker three percentage points at his ahead of his democratic opponent
7:02 pm
with fifty percent of the vote but this race is far from decided artsy correspondent christine for that was in wisconsin to show us the contenders desperate last minute campaigning and what's at stake for the state and the country . because they did what they are you the road has been long today is our three hundred eighty second to sing along the journey at times front with anger and frustration scott walker's not a total disaster for workers the families for the middle class the only people he served very billionaires we are all angry about the lies that are being told. by the governor and by the state and now this group of devoted wisconsin residents has just about reached the end. of. their rallies there were people listening to speakers there were drum circles there was chanting and this is just another way to protest and our way was singing together the solidarity sing
7:03 pm
along group first met on march eleventh twenty eleven and every weekday since that there was snow sleet rain and shine they've been meeting here they say among their goals they want to keep that energy alive the first lines of the occupation on the state house and the recall election itself for months all eyes were on wisconsin and this was ground zero for the debate on unions workers' rights and inequality in america eventually they collected enough signatures for a recall election to be helped and to bring milwaukee mayor tom barrett back to face off with scott walker one more time he said opposed to having workers rights for these people and i think that his ultimate goal is to take away workers' rights both private unions and publicly. but despite the energy here. polls show mayor barrett behind governor walker for anybody to want to divert or go
7:04 pm
and a governor more confident every day i think you're right when you know i'm going to affirm yet again on tuesday that the reason so many people are standing with me is because every day i'm in office i stand with the hard working taxpayers. back outside the state house with just one day to go these protesters remain hopeful that a good leader walking. with him. and soon will know if they were successful and vowed to carry on in their protest their songs and their struggle in madison wisconsin christine. well for more on the last ditch campaigning frenzy r t correspondent christine johns joins us now live from wisconsin hi crissy so time is ticking what is the mood like over there in wisconsin well as you just saw in my report there are
7:05 pm
hundreds if not thousands of people that are excited they are hopeful this is after all what they've been working for for the last fifteen months what they've been waiting for tomorrow's election on the other hand i should tell you we're in madison wisconsin this is a liberal city this is a college town this is also where everything started with the occupation of that state house we have been crisscrossing the state we've been going to several of the events with the candidates themselves and it looks a lot different once you get out of this city here we've driven through neighborhoods was where really some of these streets there are houses with you know on one side of the street i stand with scott walker signs in their yards across the street you have signs that say recall scott walker some of the people i've spoken to at some of these events say you know what they don't even speak to their neighbors anymore they say they can't bring this up at family gatherings because there's just too much tension when they do so even business owners say they have to keep very quiet about this because they don't want to lose any business so as you can imagine tomorrow's election comes with that so much anger so much frustration
7:06 pm
so much hope a lot of emotion and don't forget all on this stage with this national spotlight shining on like it's a very you know hot button topic even very divisive as you just described you know kristie i've actually never been to wisconsin why should people around the country care about what goes on there. well there are several reasons that i think a lot of the people who live here in wisconsin things that everyone should pay attention what's going on you're number one the people who live here this is their seventh election in the last fourteen months so just a lot of things going on here but as far as what happens whether or not governor scott walker gets to keep his job this will determine quite a few things number one it will determine what other governors around the country do several of them do down with me they believe that what he did by trying to take away collective bargaining rights was the right thing lot of other governors if the governor is not recalled they will probably take this opportunity to do the same on
7:07 pm
the other hand if the governor loses his job i think this will be a big warning sign flashing lights to those governors who you know one of them will probably think again so as not to lose their jobs it's also a place that people are watching and i think you mentioned this in the introduction to the story was because of the money that's been spent here scott walker himself has campaign coffers of about thirty million dollars mayor barrett about four million but but that's not even counting the super pac money that that's come into this election the money that is coming in to control the messages if were in the car listening to the radio or watching television in our hotel rooms here all you see was are ads either in favor of or against scott walker and with that kind of money behind scott walker do people think that his opponent even stands a chance. well i think that's a good question we showed some of the video in my report from fifteen months ago that just showed the state capitol taken over you never would have thought that scott walker would have any chance of keeping his job based on the energy from back
7:08 pm
then i mean the protesters i covered today they have been so devoted coming out here every single week day so they don't think that's got walker stands a chance because they've been surrounded by a whole lot of people who really want to see him out of office on the other hand with all that money and and you look at other places there's an irish betting website in trade where the ninety percent of those people putting money on this election putting it in favor of scott walker keeping his job so it really does come down in a lot of ways to the money it's a little surprising to me of a governor walker is not further ahead with all this money that's been spent to control the message and well for the moment of truth is coming up pretty soon any idea of what to expect in the coming hours. well it's really interesting these candidates have been again crisscrossing the state trying to get to the small towns in the big cities i don't think there's going to be any more surprises i think they're just going to come sort of continue on the campaign trail and the polls close here at eight pm tomorrow night that is when people will rest i think
7:09 pm
a lot of these people here are going to be glad it's over one way or the other if governor walker does lose then he has i believe the election board here just has eighteen days to certify those results and he's out there's no waiting period he's out of office if however he does get to keep his job it seems like a lot of his ideas could go into place but i should tell you there are several other elections taking place tomorrow for seats in the state senator and if the democrats win just one of those seats they will have the met the majority in the state senate here which will make it much more difficult for the governor to implement his policies so it could be just another shake up that even this ground out in ways that we might not expect will sound like there is a lot at stake over there in wisconsin and christine thank you for keeping us updated that was our correspondent christine. well with mitt romney's nomination effectively secured ron paul's career appears to be winding down but as many young
7:10 pm
supporters are pressing forward to achieve what they call the ron paul revolution and at the forefront of this movement as john ramsey he's a twenty one year old texas millionaire and he's putting his money over a million dollars of it toward a super pac to back so-called liberty candidates and these are candidates that stand behind all things libertarian small government civil liberties and and see interventionist stance but the creators of the super pac liberty for all joins us now to talk about their mission founder john ramsey and executive director preston bates welcome to the both of you welcome gentlemen first of all gray bow ties excellent ensemble seems like it's kind of become your signature how did that come about and address for you is a liberty just for freedom well thank you i appreciate that so john i know you inherited a ton of money and you can do whatever you want with that money but you decided to
7:11 pm
create a super pac why you know is under realize that i could be spending my money on ferrars but you know i'd rather spend my money to spread freedom you know freedom is a very very unique idea you know it's something that we believe humans are meant to be as free and you know have the ability to do this you know i honestly don't sleep well and i knowing that there's people around the world who you know there's more than a billion people around the world don't have fresh water to drink and also don't sleep well knowing that you know people around the world you know they're held down by tyrants and you know we live or die for all steps in to doing solve some of these problems and what exactly inspired you to create this super pac where you disillusioned with where money and campaign is campaigns are going today so yes liz you know you see some of the things that are going on in the country and it's very depressing you know we really wanted to create an organization that wins freedom elections and that's what we're. the for all is all about you know we don't see freedom is just a mere political outcome it's a humanitarian outcome as well all right maybe this question is for you preston
7:12 pm
what exactly is the liberty it for all super pac what does it stand for stands for freedom and stands for getting government out of the bank in the bedroom for too long america has been dominated by two political parties who want to be invading either your bank or your bedroom freedom is older than america itself and it's high time that americans and frankly citizens of the world have the opportunity to vote for freedom liberty for all is the liberty organization that wins elections so what is freedom to you. freedom is free to think self ownership. working create jobs and be involved in economy without being told what to do it's free to express free to create. the most bold and frankly heroic thing that. that's freedom and ultimately. invested in the super pac what are you hoping to achieve. a world where we live off each other's happiness and others misery
7:13 pm
whether it be providing. clean water to drink hungry minds with information spreading political technology liberating people at home and abroad that's what i would like to achieve and you know as i mentioned before you can do whatever you want with your funds about a part ferrari. and vestment that you're happy that you made i'm very happy about this investment was. honestly i was a little bit selfish of me to go out and buy these frivolous things considering the state of the world i'm just here a young person here to make the world a better place that's what i want to do and it seems very enlightening for you to say something like that because you are very young twenty one years old i believe still in college. what the what do your colleagues your classmates in college think about this i assume their priorities are a little bit different than yours. they are happy with what i'm doing that i am
7:14 pm
getting to achieve a goal and then that i have the means to do it. i'm really not interested in becoming a political figure it all is i'm interested in going back to school studying developmental economics and studying some of the issues that i mentioned earlier the pack and health and these things we can develop in what's called a five hundred one c three intrinsically make the world a better place and. at the end at the end of the day say you have absolutely no political ambition to we're not doing this for political gain what about you. are any possible political motive behind this because people are going to look at this and say hey maybe something's going on here tell you what were the crossroads of america we're going to go in a free or less for direction and frankly the free for all is interested in taking back one district one constable precinct one u.s. senate seat one given tauriel see the time we just all have time america's precipice and right now we need to be electing freedom came and it's that's all the
7:15 pm
free for all is trying to do and i understand that also what liberty for all is trying to do this kind of push forward as well as you call it as ron paul revolution what does that look like what exactly does that mean ron paul is a hero ron paul has stood for more than thirty years sometimes alone being heckled for being the token in the fender freedom so you know freedom is not a party based idea it's a principle so ron paul started a conversation that is going to develop and continue and in proliferated in many different parties and it's interesting ron paul the oldest candidate of the g.o.p. candidates and he has a huge following of young supporters healthy is to the healthiest exactly how like yourselves what do you think it is about ron paul and what he stands for that attracts this young following i think young people are really tired of war they
7:16 pm
don't believe that are going to see social security. and they're tired of growing up and thinking that tomorrow might be worse than today ron paul offered a positive vision i hope he offered what obama hasn't fulfilled and that's a positive vision a new direction for america ron paul started a conversation we're trying to help facilitate and continue it and would you say that the libertarian movement that this is a growing movement absolutely if you look at wrong poll results in one thousand nine hundred in two thousand and two thousand and twelve it's growing exponential. you know it's very very enlightening to see the young generation whole new generation of voters getting behind paul and his ideas of freedom limited government keeping government out of the bedroom the bank account and it's very it's a bright future we think it is and are you hoping that this could kind of set the tone for looking ahead maybe to the twenty sixteen election that the libertarian party will gain that much more momentum and really stand a chance but we think freedom is not one party issue like i said freedom is funny
7:17 pm
when both parties i think is early as two thousand and twelve we're announcing ten races are going to be involved in this fall and we're going to be electing freedom candidates of all colors right whether it's an african-american homosexual democrat running for constable in travis county texas or a congress in the kentucky fourth liveries role is going to be electing freedom candidates in twenty twelve in years to come really interesting what you're doing what kind of response have you got and so again a very positive response was you know the little guys so sick and tired of being beat up by the establishment and now that we get to come in and be a pack of the people bottom of organization that listens to our supporters elect candidates that they can identify with it's very refreshing you know and people are going to refresh our organization and you know feel that we can be successful going forward and we want to join some success and we look to continue on with gentlemen thank you so much for coming on the show very refreshing to see very young people fighting for liberty that was john ramsey founder of liberty for all and liberty
7:18 pm
for all super pac and preston bass executive director for liberty for super pac. well after the texas primary it's been called that mitt romney the republican presidential nomination but this is not stopping ron paul's very dedicated supporters they are continuing to press on for delegates and make their mark at the g.o.p. convention and louisiana not only that ron paul win over half the delegates but in an apparent attempt to snub the republican establishment most of the delegates reportedly. physically move their chairs to turn back turn their backs on the g.o.p. chair appointed by the party at the state convention so let's break it down for a bit now ron paul he won twenty seven a louis louisiana delegates versus mitt romney is nineteen but on a bigger scale paul has only one hundred thirty seven delegates compared to romney's monstrous lead with one thousand one hundred ninety one so many are
7:19 pm
calling this a lost cause at this point with the delhi the delegate math virtually impossible so why are paul supporters still putting up a fight to answer that question i was joined by austin petersen director of production for freedom works take a look. there's a lot of great reasons well because the numbers that you might be getting are from the associated press which are based on estimates ron paul has won the majority of delegates most five states and some of those delegates are bound and some of them aren't bound so some of them may be overtly romney supporters from what they say but there are actually ron paul supporters underneath so what they're doing is they're playing this sort of a strategy some of these delegates where they're saying yes we support mitt romney and those delegates may be added to mitt romney's count but they're actually secret ron paul supporters you see delegates are legally required to vote for the person that the state says that they are bound to they're only bound by the party rules to bow to vote for the candidate that their state chose and in many of those states the person who won was someone like rick santorum so those delegates are free to
7:20 pm
vote for whoever they wish they may say that they're voting for mitt romney but that's only because they don't want to be disenfranchised and they'd like to be able to vote for their actual conscience when they get to tampa so why give up when we're winning all of these caucuses and taking over states all across the united states why would you give up when you're winning and we just saw the number is there in the numbers are so drab staggering terms of the gap now between the delegate count between ron paul and mitt romney so what do you with it what is the reasoning behind trying to continue to amass the delegate because think about the future imagine yourself a young ron paul supporter back in two thousand and eight and ron paul told you that the goal was to take over the republican party and to change it and restore it back to his republican roots to a small republican roots now two thousand and twelve has rolled around and you have taken over successfully the state party of colorado louisiana. a couple of other states that i can remember off the top of my head that we've done we've taken over these republican parties now imagine you're no longer
7:21 pm
a young ron paul supporter in two thousand and sixteen and senator rand paul is running for office well you are now in charge of five republican states state parties so you have now have maximized your power to hand the nomination to the candidate that you. better so there's a great reason to keep going and fighting because when ron paul supporters take over leadership positions of these states in the future their influence will be even much more magnified so at this point we can say it's more about having a voice and a party's platform on what i would say so but there's all sorts of shenanigans that ron paul delegates can play at the convention there's all sorts of things that happened there remember romney has always been a flip flopper what does mitt romney believe you know nobody really knows what mitt romney believes politicians they say always go to where the votes are they go to where they pander to power blocs or their power to minorities loud vocal minority as well why can't ron paul supporters are our power block that we've created be the minority that romney has to pander to why can't we force him through the threat of
7:22 pm
denying our votes to him by saying you need to come over to our side and you need to pander to us why should we allow mitt romney to pander to all these other minority groups why should he pounded our issues like auditing the fed why should he pander to all of our issues like bring the troops home and see if we continue to exert pressure in these state parties through these delegations through these caucuses mitt romney is going to realize that he's going to have to start talking to our issues or he's going to lose our votes. at this point do you think there is any feasible way for ron paul to lead to get those delegates i would like to hold out hope that he possibly could that there could be some miracle that would occur after the first round of voting that mitt romney would not be able to do it we would have a brokered convention i like that idea just because i like you know more democracy the idea that people could have more choices so i'd like to think that it could happen it seems it seems reasonable that it wouldn't but there are so many other things that can be so many other battles that can be won fighting towards that goal
7:23 pm
that there's no reason to stop. so paul he suspended officially suspended his campaign and he's going to stop spending money but he still you know is focusing on this delegate strategy. and many say that what he's really trying to do. really make his mark on the g.o.p. . at the at the coming convention do you think that that could be the case and if that's so how is he trying to change the dialogue there well imagine what happened in two thousand and eight he was not even invited to the republican national convention and now he may have a chance through his delegates to gain a primetime speaking role at that convention one at the glorious event that would be for ron paul supporters to deliver them out of the wilderness and to come into the light and be able to say hey look our movement is legitimized you allow ron paul to speak and say whatever it is that he wants to say and even if the mainstream republican party doesn't like some of the things that he has to say they have to pander to us they have to listen to us and our movement will be legitimized
7:24 pm
by allowing ron paul that speaking spot at the convention because we will have demanded it and we will have work for it and we will have forced it by our actions over the last two years that would one pull back or as like yourself i know you describe yourself as a ron paul fanatic i think you said would you adverse aport mitt romney i've said that there is only one way that i would ever support mitt romney and it would mean that i think they're very very conservative proposals if ron paul or rand paul were offered the vice presidential spot if judge nepal attend a judge and the potential ron paul's best buddy were offered attorney general or perhaps the supreme court position perhaps and there was an audit the fed in the firing of ben bernanke you then that is the type of thing that would be make me say well mitt romney is finally flipped up over be a libertarian and now it's time to get on board because the thing is is that ron paul has never compromise on these kinds of things in his life and i really trust him and i know that he would not do something that i think what alienates his his people so even if some people would see that as
7:25 pm
a sellout i would see it more as the time for the libertarians to come out of the wilderness. terry we are at a time that i thank you so much austin for coming on the show that was austin peter said director of production for freedom mark thank you. like an eighty and students back on the streets after talks with a call back government over to wish an fees collapsed protesters are now vowing to continue daily rallies which as we've seen over the months have led to fierce clashes with police and thousands of arrests artist can reports that what started as a student strike has grown into something much more fears that canada's system is on its way it's some mirroring the ways of the u.s. the canadian province of quebec a region that prides itself on free healthcare and affordable education for its residents students here pay a fixed amount for tuition fees around twenty five hundred dollars a year for all of the colleges and universities that's the lowest rate in north
7:26 pm
america and the taxpayers pick up the rest but that model might change as their government looks south they are looking across the borders and seeing what united states are doing and trying to become closer and closer to what. they are working on which is more and more proof is they show that instead of reading your social programs that cover for everybody. tens of thousands spilled onto the streets when the government said they'd be pushing up we should fees every year and in five years the students of will face education cost almost double what they're paying. i mean he notes is a student at a montreal university she works part time at a local ice cream shop she says if the people of keg don't stand their ground now in the future higher education just won't be an option for me if it's too expensive for children i'm not even think about going to school because it's another world it's part of something that's accessible they were not even think about being
7:27 pm
a doctor or if it wasn't for you know it would be you know it's a symbol and what i was saying is in us it's so expensive so the people the poor people they want to study they have no choice about going to. army for the prospect of having to join the military to provide for their education is not the only thing about the us example that scares the giving to fund skyrocketing tuition fees americans carry massive student loan debts on their shoulders we need to preserve this and. what we see growing in the united states right now having a lot of students they are still paying for a university program and when they are seventy years old so we need to make sure that every students will be able to country. region and make sure that they have they can afford actually to start maybe. new. new businesses the rest of north
7:28 pm
america should be looking to go back as an example of how to mobilize how student association should function through direct democracy and how they should actually organize and challenge these measures and challenge this shackle system. to protest clearly signalled the path that is willing rather not willing to take when we look towards the united states we see a country in which the idea of access is wrapped up in the ability to pay and this is what we're seeing the resistance against that access to things like higher education or like health care are in fact access to public goods and that there should be a way of controlling the costs and ensuring that people no matter what their monetary capabilities are able to take advantage of these kinds of programs. what the world knows about the protests here is that they have to do with students and their tuition fees but for people of the big problem it's not so much about the economy but more about their identity and the special welfare model that they are
7:29 pm
