the band's importance but that's not the only cultural fight here the house republicans are using the defense bill as a weapon in their war on women to the department of defense is the only federal agency out there whose insurance plans will cover abortions resulting from rape or incest and abortions are only provided when the life of the mother is in danger so if a service woman is the victim of rape that leads to the pregnancy the military wants no responsibility in that and sadly rape in the military is an increasingly common occurrence and one that often goes under reported a study just this year found nineteen thousand sexual assaults reported in fiscal year two thousand and ten alone and the pentagon estimates that only about thirteen point five percent of cases actually result in complaints to the actual number is most likely much much higher and there's a feeling that service women are being abandoned by the military brass and specially when it comes to remedying pregnancies that result from rape. but i've seen some cases. of situations where individuals have and these are

women who tried to do the abortion themselves or went to other people who were not able to do it well and ended up with very sad outcomes. so those sentiments in mind democratic senator jeanne shaheen trying to amend the senate's version of the two thousand and thirteen and the a she reposed a provision that would force the government to pay for abortions when the pregnancy is a result of a woman in uniform being raped and many of the military saw this is a sensible way to approach the consequences of a massive systemic problem take a look at this. this is just not acceptable bans on abortion coverage exist for millions of women who receive their health care through government programs but these bans under the hyde amendment allow coverage of abortions if the pregnancy is the result of or result of rape or incest federal civilian employees medicaid recipients even federal prison inmates are guaranteed
