with the palm of your. restore asylum british authorities are ready to detain for breaching his bail conditions whistleblowers think of the ecuador embassy in london while the country considers whether to accept him as a political refugee. egypt's former president hosni mubarak is said to be coma amid mounting tensions over who will succeed him after the presidential runoff. and u.n. observers pledged to stay in syria despite attacks on them amid a raging media war including false reports of tens of thousands of russian and chinese troops to be deployed near the country.
1:01 pm
screen online this is r.t. with international news and comment live from new center here in moscow and facing arrest british police say the wiki leaks editor has violated his bail terms by seeking sanctuary at the ecuadorian embassy in london the world's most famous whistleblower has asked for political asylum in the latin american country to avoid extradition to sweden. is that the embassy while a reporter smith is scotland yard in london and we talked to both of them a little earlier. well the hind closed those and julian assange is taking refuge at the moment you can see some of his supporters have gathered outside here this morning now still no clear indication of exactly what the decision is going to be of course a huge amount of speculation at the moment now a little earlier on investigative journalist government body and from city university had come out of the building and he had spoken to some of the reporters here and said that the atmosphere inside was warm and that there would be
1:02 pm
a statement later on today so we left speculating at the moment of course the embassy here said that evaluating his request it wasn't going to be long before julian assange is going to have to present himself to the british authorities and then he faced extradition to sweden where of course he faces questioning the sexual assault allegations that he's never actually been charged in all at the end of last month after the u.k. supreme court rejected his appeal against the extradition really a stunt and his legal team we're running out of options now the next big question that everyone's all seeing right now is why ecuador again a lot of speculation that we do you know that julian assange had previously met the president of ecuador he interviewed him for a show the runs analyse and it seemed to hit it off in that meeting is take a listen but now i. think president chris. it is really a pleasure to meet you julian least in this way. to the globe of the persecuted.
1:03 pm
thank you. thank you. to avoid every day. over it you know what to do tell us what are you saying at this point. will mainly that if he steps outside the ecuadorian embassy they will arrest him as you were saying earlier he is in breach of his bail conditions which are very strict he's been under them for the last eighteen months and one of the states that he has to spend the night at his registered address which is obviously not the ecuadorian embassy and he has been there since yesterday spent the night over there while inside the ecuadorian embassy he's of course out of reach of the police because it's a sanctuary. the moment he steps outside we understand that there are police officers waiting for him they don't exactly know what their orders are but they know that they have to stay there until something happens according to reports says it's
1:04 pm
working with the u.k. to sort this situation out whatever that means but of course this is not unexpected it was that we didn't think that julian ourselves would just be able to go to ecuador without any kind of repercussions and this is really a last ditch move for him and a very unexpected move of course we know that he's exhausted all his legal options here inside the u.k. he took his case right up to the supreme court which offered. him an appeal but then rejected it at the last moment so now his only recourse in the legal system is to go to the european court of human rights but he evidently doesn't expect that the european court of human rights would be able to help him and of course this is all because of him being wanted for questioning on allegations of sexual assault in sweden no charges have been brought they're looking at sweden is looking to extradite him just for questioning and he has always feared that it's ten to sweden he would. extradited on from there to the united states he's pointed out that the
1:05 pm
united states is a country where the death penalty is still in force and they have also been reports all through this eighteen month process confirm that the u.s. is already building a case against him. but the stakes are very high in this it's really a last ditch attempt to avoid being extradited this case is coming to a close. one now we can join our reporter sara firth use outside the ecuadorian embassy in london for the latest developments. so. we're outside the embassy here in london doing on the stand i'm joined by a man who's been described as which. public face and a friend of judy in the sun kristen have been sent thank you and you just. you know done. well over the years or the good. as always. you certainly is taking the right move. and it was a dramatic step very unexpected for
1:06 pm
a lot of people were you aware. i can't really comment on that but. nothing surprises me anymore in this world and has the need inside people hateful is there any sense of what the decision is going to be friends with. what we know that he has a lot of goodwill within the ecuadorian government and the ecuadorian people there's a lot of support in latin america in general and people actually been on the streets in the support of wiki leaks wiki leaks revelations have done a lot a lot of good in america. for us well but the comments on certain it will just take days to chill for that to be revealed do you think julian assange felt like he was pushed in a call into a corner because obviously they've exhausted a lot of legal options here i mean the. legal options here in the u.k. are exhausted and it's of course very serious that in a very own come from the manner of the of the a swedish prosecutor has stated that he would be put into prison into isolation
1:07 pm
upon arrival to sweden even though he has not been charged with anything only wanted for questioning questioning which he has been asked to get into for a for a year and have he actually has wanted to be questioned and i believe offering the prosecutor to to come over here to the embassy to question him but the most serious issue of course at hand is the looming threat of extradition from sweden to the united states where we know that a secret grand jury has been in operation for a long time a year for more than a year and a half gathering information in a clear attempt to to indict julian and possibly others in wiki leaks and we have an indication that an indictment sealed indictment is already in place but that's one front for and you always maintain that this is politically motivated the case it's been able to go. you worked for wiki leaks now how is it i mean i mean
1:08 pm
how has this been dealing with the case dealing with. julian has been under house arrest for. years and we continue so but of course the situation has affected. one of many obstacles that we have to face and fight. the banking blockade is one for example where we have a court case the first of many more were actually virgin and i saw the court but. we have continued and it's extraordinary of course that despite. julian has continued to work and lead the work we can use and. will from from this new premises while you say so as well and that there's been a bit of criticism about the fact that breaking the bell conditions means that there's a lot of money that's been lost that people put up for him if he mentioned anything about. no certainty that the bail money is lost
1:09 pm
to some legal interpretation which i'm not an expert in but the pay money is not lost. as far as i know. yet and and i have to say that all the surety is have been informed. and their interests are taking into consideration. thank you very much for joining us and of course we're now waiting as the ecuadorian government with. the quest for silence everyone here just waiting and seeing really what the next but of course it remains a very high stakes game. sara firth inc you very much indeed for that live there in london no doubt more from sara throughout the day when i. talk to his mother kristina sanch who told us it's being abandoned by his native country that's led to the current turn of events. i would like to say in the strategy and govern that stand up and had some independence from us foreign policy and. what you're doing is
1:10 pm
accusing a journalist has not been charged with anything and you're on this diminishment as done nothing wrong they should have stood up they should have a copy of the swedish ambassador to the sec but that breaks to iran and they dislike and like that you pay to respond when they shouldn't they should have protested immensely to be. the u.k. government it's disgraceful display during a hearing that should be existed to the u.s. that the coals are being trained on my son i should have protested organize things they've done nothing but i didn't they said the u.s. in persecuting my son. difficult units on his own interview program is being broadcast right here in r.t. throughout the day in its latest edition is coming up later this hour and if you missed any previous part of the series that was available on a special section of our website and that is a sound altie dot com. i'm julian assange.
1:11 pm
editor of wiki leaks expose the world secrets these documents belong united states down been attacked by the powerful united states can down the western wall illegally shoot some five hundred days now i've been detained without charge. that hasn't stopped us. today we're on a quest for revolutionary ideas that can change the world tomorrow. egypt's ousted president hosni mubarak is in a coma that's the latest from the country's security officials amid uncertainty over his condition it comes as the results of the presidential runoff are due to be announced on thursday with both candidates claiming victory is in car of. the fundamental question though we're asking just how people in town here feel about the news that mubarak has died away otherwise is the question whether we're not his death would make
1:12 pm
a difference to people here on the streets in the gentleman's who is actually you know so before people he came out and called for him to step down from power last february will bite for them is did whether he is dead physically or not makes little difference he's dead in the hearts and in their minds and he's certainly not at political play here egypt is changing from day to day you have the presidential election that happened just last week and you have these conflicting reports of mubarak you have demonstrators back on the streets of town here and we do get a sense that there is going to be some kind of showdown it's not on thursday when those election results on mounds in sometime soon after that the showdown is likely to be between the muslim brotherhood and the ruling military and it's a showdown that's been some time in coming the muslim brotherhood has been around and waiting for eighty years the only question at this stage that cannot be answered is when will that shouldn't happen and to what extent will it be will it
1:13 pm
be a massive demonstration when it was all to violence will we see something that is more controlled paulus live there well for more on what's ahead for egypt i'm joined by dr wanted photos he's a middle east expert and advisor to the antiterrorism caucus in the u.s. house of representatives the ruling military council extended its powers on sunday so just how much authority will the newly elected president who would actually be running the country. not. only the basic. everything has to do with national security and defense and expansive and and then engine and also in decisions the way for which he should be in the hands of the president. because they are concerned that the next president we don't know what the next president would be with about a hundred and they know that the next president assad would try to push back against in the so this is a preemptive. move on behalf of the military to maintain some of that is the next on them it won't give the muslim brotherhood a majority sentiment
1:14 pm
a few plus the fundamental rights but if the president and the bottom of the articles are honest sentiment it would be a problem well despite thousands of egyptians protesting against what they call a power grab by the military they are of course many people who welcomes the presence of the generals because they can count about a museum is what you make of that at the age if you don't have just progress. at what the people that like america you have many people in egypt and long those who actually conducted the first wave. of our linemen but we didn't like the islamic scene was a bonus regime has been able to do in. the party a bang regime we don't know so their vote was and and what station it. is long i'm going to find being a comment but i think that is a very tricky situation you have brought along prone to three and
1:15 pm
a very wide spectrum back of today divide and what about the muslim brotherhood they cooperated with the army often about it was toppled now they've joined cells of dipshits who voicing outrage over the military's action so what is their strategy do they really have the trust of the people now. in a different part of it's an old politics as we all know this is the boy scouts conflict of course the it was true but of course when the big event began they went back they look at the e.u. and civil society for the takeover. where then when. they were going to and when the ok from the rich what they want that says the parliament to push back against them and. i don't have the support of the congress but they don't have often a majority bought a majority so that because. of the way. that was. found. the liberals. don't want to far as middle east
1:16 pm
but an advisor to the antiterrorism caucus in the u.s. house of representatives thank you very much indeed for joining us live in the usa . the eurozone is breathing a sigh of relief after the greek socialist leader announced that three parties have agreed on a coalition government following sunday's election comes after weeks of uncertainty and fears an anti bailout party would have a majority in parliament whether the crisis focus is now shifting to spain which is set to see another round of protests on wednesday not as jacob grieves has this report. that government will be headed up by mr marson leader of new democracy who won in the recent election freeway coalition that's what we're seeing at the moment now they're going to have to jump together one hundred seventy nine seats in this three hundred seat parliament that could prove very crucial going to be passing is a very unpopular austerity likely in the future legislation associated with it greeks they have some monsters but they're still really lacking in many such as the
1:17 pm
wave of anti austerity that we see in the build up with these elections some of the parties in support of it such a new democracy have been forced to change their tune a bit they say they'll probably reese seek renegotiation when it comes to the bailout conditions that's something that germany and other states in the years are nor is it a flat no two so that's the situation for them now the key word that's a big word when it comes to the euro zone has always been contagion that something three never be more problems are right now when it comes to spain spain may already have to seek one hundred billion euros in order to recapitalize its banks will no more the figures of the day. cost at the moment reaching that that all and portugal greece all face and they have to seek an all out bailout from the euro zone and that's something many people say the years are simply couldn't afford for spain right now you know when it comes to the economic situation spain facing unemployment was at twenty five percent the highest in the euro zone full stop and
1:18 pm
that's led labor used to de lay says day they'll be taken to the streets in barcelona to protest the current situation protest against the job cuts so we've seen taking place in spain as part of this austerity. jake agrees there in athens is r.t. live here in moscow still ahead in the program. more on this is exactly what investors want to see i'll be talking about that and what that means in the business of bent slightly. but first u.n. observers say they're committed to completing their mission in syria seen as key to ending violence to. early decision to halt it because of security risks observers claim they've been given safety guarantees by the syrian government but not from the opposition there's been a spate of fighting in the country with a major media war also gathering pace. reports from new york. the head of the united nations supervision mission in syria general robert mood briefed the u.n. security council on the state of syria and more importantly his decision to suspend
1:19 pm
the mission's activities according to general mood supervision mission in syria can resume once he feels that the observers will be safe and secure as they monitor syria he says the government has made a commitment to ensure the safety of the u.n. workers but so far the opposition group has not the commitment of the government the opposition to the safety and security and the freedom of movement will do observers the government express that it clearly in the last couple of days. statements from the opposition to it as the head of the u.n. mission in syria was briefing the international community about the crisis taking place in the country media outlets many of them were reporting stories indicating that russia was sending or attempting to send attack helicopters to syria
1:20 pm
a claim that russia has denied there was another somewhat outrageous report about some legit military exercises that were scheduled to take place between russia syria china and iran now the reason i say outrageous is because when you listen to the numbers of this report claiming that ninety thousand soldiers would be participating one thousand tanks one hundred warships that sounds like a humongous exercise to take place between countries and of course to include one country in the midst of his own conflict now the russian foreign ministry immediately denied this report saying it had no merit there were no facts to it and also russian officials say that those reports. being unleashed by many western media outlets are part of a false information campaign being spread about syria so it is more
1:21 pm
important than ever right now with this considering the state of the syrian crisis for the information that is being provided by media outlets to be factually supported so here we see that the international community is not just dealing with an escalating conflict in syria there's also an escalating information war taking place outside of the country and most recently it is being aimed at russia by many western media outlets. with a full scale media war taking place outside syria we've been talking to one of president assad's main political and media advisors she shared her views on the crisis in the country and the way the turmoil is being covered and you can watch the interview in full later today. there are. tens of the trauma. made them so part of the war on syria and citing sectarian wars. about what's happening in our country it can do
1:22 pm
a lot of damage them in their war because when you're. fighting sectarian head to among the syrian people there are many people who fall victim to do this. unfortunately the media war throughout history could be very damaging. but effective. and we're showing that interview throughout the day here on taking a look now at other news from around the world this french police say the government in sort of toulouse bank has been captured alive and the four people who took hostages be released in unspent came shortly after several gunshots were heard near the bank no one was seriously injured the man who police. say had past psychiatric problems did far one shot inside the bank after his demand for money was denied he claimed to be linked to al-qaeda and asked to talk with the police unit which killed islamist government mohamed merah in march killed seven people in
1:23 pm
three separate attacks interludes before a police shot him dead. sixty people dead dozens more injured after a motorbike packed with explosives drives into an international military convoy in eastern afghanistan civilians and foreign troops were killed in the region is the main area of operation for taliban militants is the third time in two days coalition troops have been targeted after a police checkpoint in the south were attacked yesterday. it's that time again for business there's marina and marina great news for shareholders of russia's biggest oil producer understand tell us more about. basically their dividends will now be. of course excited that i'll have more details about that in just a second versus take a look at the u.s. markets are the only ones trading right now and in fact have managed to reverse earlier losses and they're adding just a notch as you can see there both without end the nasdaq and the reason for that is
1:24 pm
as i mentioned for the last couple of hours investors were waiting to hear about the federal reserve decision policy that it would make everyone was speculating whether that would extend their bond buying program called operation twist and yes the decision has been made and there will extended by two hundred and sixty seven billion dollars and this is the reaction that was now investors are also hoping to hear about wants the easing of that was their main thought of course we analysts were saying that we wouldn't hear anything about that and that's what happened but still moderate gains as we can see there and let's move on and take a look at the russian markets and how they ended the session there was a lackluster performance both the ideas and. their ideas in the u.s. in the minds lost over a one percent but bucking the trend was the country's biggest oil producer ross and . news about the dividends from its annual general meeting and in fact our correspondent daniel bushell wraps up the event for us. rosneft now the droid in
