the most of the problem with the mainstream media today is that they're completely disconnected from the viewers and what actually matters to those viewers and so that's why young people just don't watch t.v. anymore if they want news they go online and read it but we're trying to take those stories that people actually care about and transfer them back to t.v. . you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so. you think you understand it and then you glimpse something else to some other part of it and realize that everything you thought you knew you don't know i'm sorry is a big. pride
6:31 pm
of time for you said it i read it before i take time to respond to our brilliant and engaging viewer comments from facebook twitter and you tube because you got some to say i listen to our first comments and i comes from tim davis who responded to our main stream this segment yesterday about a song seeking asylum on facebook he said good point of the m.s.m. only pays attention to a story with sex in it but after watching the whole show in which this segment appears maybe you're doing the same thing now all right tim i'm assuming. are you
6:32 pm
referring to our happy hour panel last night which all it meant was full of sexual innuendo but i disagree with your point clearly if you watch the rest of the show we don't only pay attention to stories with sex in them we just choose to lighten things up at the end of the show with a few but most importantly we do not glaze over the real story when there is one as in the case of join us on to only focus on the sexual aspect this entire case raises a lot of questions about whistleblowers free speech the press and we never hear the m.s.m. bring up those issues when talking about his son because a case like that it's much easier for them to be sensationalist about now our next one j.k. sonny commented on you tube about another part of yesterday's mainstream miss he said a lot of you're a bit mixed up here all the media attention on christie you mentioned it was about whether or not he would be running for president and had nothing to do with the v.p. slot if you needed an example of a non big sucking up all the media coverage your best bet would have been hillary in two thousand and eight and you know what i'm happy you pointed this out yesterday because you're right i misspoke and talked about chris christie in terms
6:33 pm
of will he or won't be b. will he or won't he be v.p. what i really mad that there was a frenzy asking will he or won't he run for president so thank you for your correction but the essence here i think is still the same spending hours days weeks making a story out of somebody not doing something come on guys and now our last comment jr tweeted this to us about our interview with chris hayes this week tweeted appy lonna show the long form interview was great the dinosaur media would never do it but it's a little more tuned in audience craves so you know we got a lot of great responses from this interview from you guys i'm happy you enjoyed it and you know we always like to give people more time to talk so we can go more in depth on the issues on the interview with chris was way longer than usual i still feel that it was necessary so that's it my rantings tonight but thank you for your comments as always only back with more next week. and the creeping use of drones in the united states something that we often discuss on this show. from law
6:34 pm
enforcement to surveillance from finding missing people to the taco copter and of course the privacy concerns that come along with there are definitely pros and cons to employing the technology here at home but ari moving ahead too quickly without considering the consequences at least one government agency definitely appears to be in surprise surprise it's the department of defense last week steven aftergood editor of the secrecy news blog posted in a report prepared for congress by the pentagon and a study identified one hundred ten potential sites at the military wants to use for drone testing at military installations in thirty nine states across the u.s. of course the defense department already tries tests drones but they are increasing use has led to push for more available air space in this report said quote. operations conducted outside of restricted warning and prohibited areas are authorized only under a temporary c.e.o. a certificate of authorization from the f.a.a. now the c.e.o. of process is adequate for enabling a small number of flights but does not provide the level of airspace access
6:35 pm
necessary to accomplish the wide range of d.o.d. u.a.s. missions at current and projected operational tempos this constraint will only be exacerbated as combat operations shift from abroad and systems return to u.s. locations well apparently congress took heed of this request because earlier this month in a defense budget bill the senate armed services committee asked the government to haste in the way that it approves of drone flights outside of military airspace and that came after president obama approved a law in february ordering the f.a.a. to integrate civil drones into the air space by september of two thousand and fifteen but another news report out there suggests that the military being maybe a little too gung ho about this according to bloomberg the military's three biggest roads are the most accident prone in the entire air force northrop grumman global hog and the more famous general atomics predator and reaper drones all three of had a total of nine point three one accidents for every one hundred thousand hour. as
6:36 pm
a flight global hawk has been the most accident prone while the reaper has been the least faulty of the bunch of a combined accident rate is more than three times the air force average just last week we saw one such accident just off the chase of big bay in maryland involving a two hundred thirty three million dollars global hawk we had a call from her mother that said her son heard that there was a drone that went down during the river. so we looked around. a bit about twenty minutes later helicopter came by and. it was like it was looking around but. you know we continue to shoot. now at that accident actually hurt or killed somebody the pentagon would have had a lot of questions to answer it's clearly not an isolated incident either and the truth is a problem be the last and in fact according to one expert there are bodies industry even has a name for systemic errors and that name does not inspire
6:37 pm
a great deal of confidence. now sometimes she will say ok when things don't work out with your robot it's just a moment and that's actually what present one of the robot company said it's just a moment when things don't work out with a robot well sometimes hoops moments are kind of funny other times moments can be tragic last year in south africa and any aircraft can and have a quote software glitch and sort of firing up words during a training exercise it leveled and fired in a circle it killed nine soldiers. now so far we've seen our fair share of accidents or hopes moments mishaps and other unplanned events and last fifteen years from last september the air force has recorded twenty nine accidents involving the predator the reaper and the global hawk so would you want the military test flying drones in your backyard probably not but what should be said here is a drone accidents have declined over time peter singer the expert in that last clip that we played he noted in the bloomberg piece the accident rates have declined as
6:38 pm
technology improves sixty two point zero six military drone accidents occurred in one hundred thousand out flight hours in fiscal year two thousand and one and by fiscal year two thousand and eleven there were only five point one three drone accidents per one hundred thousand flight hours so technology shouldn't be more widely tested testing is always good but the thing is that the military should proceed with caution it's a problem that could cost taxpayers dearly in the future and one that i have those close to the military bases watching the skies. oh i got one more break tonight but up next is told time and believe me you'll want to buckle up because this one is taking as way down the rabbit hole and on happy hour tonight is piracy really the thing that's causing all those horrible pop songs and take it out of your head. of american power continue. going on our show.
6:39 pm
might be time revolution. i mean. you were very good. review. you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so you think you understand it and then you glimpse something else you hear or see some other part of it and realize that everything you thought you knew you don't know i'm sorry welcome to the big picture. here is what i. love and they alone are so they'll get the real headline with none of them are the problem with the mainstream media today is that they're completely
6:40 pm
disconnected from the viewers and what actually matters to those viewers and so that's why young people just don't watch t.v. anymore if they want news they go online and read it but we're trying to take those stories that people actually care about and transfer them back in t.v. . welcome to the capital account i'm lauren lyster.
6:41 pm
hi guys it's time for tonight's tool time award and tonight we're giving it to somebody who is so anti obama that he's just grasping it afterbirth straws at this point arizona's secretary of state can bet it comes from a place that just seems to end up in the news for all the wrong reasons whether it be ridiculous legislation about immigration women's reproductive health or even a rose lot of stop an alleged un conspiracy called agenda twenty one and believe me the list goes on here this state has lately been one of the most misguided in the nation and that is just the number two guy in arizona under governor jan brewer he's also taken on a new role as co-chair for mitt romney's campaign in the state do you think that maybe that was the case he'd be doing his best to try to keep some of the insanity under wraps but it turns out he hasn't in march he pandered to the burger crowd all pretending to be a responsible state official just trying to make sure the election is fair to take
6:42 pm
a listen i'm not pointing to the concord i'm not a i believe the president was born in hawaii. it was. my responsibility as secretary of state just to make sure that the faults and those on the are correct and that those people whose names are on the ballot have met the qualifications for the office that they're seeking. let's just say that it didn't take too long for him to walk back those comments he received verification from hawaii just days later but apologized after he was ridiculed for buying into the burger hype and then just when you thought that maybe maybe he might have learned his lesson can is back with a bang this time he has a whole new theory about obama and this isn't so good you guys got to get your tinfoil hats on now i know there's a lot of people that have a lot of. are very skeptical as to whether the president was personally i actually was. i actually think he was being about being born in kenya when he was trying to
6:43 pm
get into college and doing things like writing a book and on and on or not but think he has been to one and a half or two million dollars through attorneys to have all the college records and all of that stuff sealed so if you're spending money to seal something that's probably were thank you thank you what's going on. ari do you guys get it so now obama wasn't born in kenya he was born in hawaii but he said that he was born in kenya to help going to college i'm so glad that he clear that went up but there is still a question that the secretary needs to answer here where the hell did he come up with this idea nobody has ever seen a dash of evidence the talking points memo suggests that apparently this is becoming a popular new twists with some burgers out there it's actually quite amazing if you think about it the crackpots are failing of proving that he wasn't born here so they try to distract by turning obama into the original burger so is better the further despite his new found in ailes think the video tells
6:44 pm
a different story americans are better. than this we think. we take him in his word. it's a numerical oh i think you're right. thanks we're. the. pandering to the crowd a little right but the reality is that he only drive his investigation into obama's birthplace when facts prove his theory wrong so then let's move on to the next mutation of birth or is it and i'm sorry guys but i've had enough look everybody here is a copy of the president's birth certificate if you want a closer look go to the white house website in the meantime going back to the real question why is this even an issue why does mitt romney keep on benefiting from it he tries to distance himself from the burghers but not that much because then he still gets people like donald trump and ken bennett why does he just denounce their theories like mccain did in two thousand and eight when he criticized the secret
6:45 pm
muslim ideas it's the g.o.p.'s way of making sure that they'll least out the vote of the crazies in the races i mean their base come november and it's all just a dumb distraction from the real problems that face america but arizona's secretary of state seems to think otherwise so for his contributions to the arizona crazy and for taking the obama brother issue to a whole new level can bennett. is tonight's top time winner. ok guys time for happy hour and joining me this evening is r t correspondent christine friends out and greg rock social commentator for man on the street d. si dot com thanks for joining me guys absolutely we heard. your last on the show today i got a few comments from my last appearance of the like maybe i should maybe you got to get out a little bit or much of these i think of the viewers alike that is mean that sometimes

6:46 pm
we listen to what they actually have to say. we like you like your we like your feedback when it's not you know perverted moving on. i love mother jones did this today and so they decided to we were all big game of thrones fans around here i know a lot of people that work in mother jones are too and so they were just wondering you know what would it be like if there were super pacs in this fantasy world for a game of thrones goes on where everybody is fighting for the throne and the mean time and here's a clip of one of them. she says she is the most through dragoons who would you trust with your thoughts. was a maniac she powder around with rocky terrorists the city of coffee. then she lost three baby dragon after placing them in the. books and.
6:47 pm
wants to be queen of the seven kingdoms kind she trusted in there was. wrong for dragons wrong rome. i mean ok they would have been cooler if they used video of obviously there's copyright issues here and they did what they could with what they had but also shows a lot of those super pac crazy ads don't always use video and sometimes they're used like the weirdest you know still shots and sort of manipulate the color of the so i thought it was sort of played on the ridiculousness that we sometimes when we talked about like burger ism with with king jaafari where is the i was here is it alright incest and then they had another body another one about rob stark and i was the coup this guy in the north but how he really can't defend them are you game of thrones fan not at all i never see. that here on the show thing which is going to make any comments i make just completely fantastic right. back think i'd just like
6:48 pm
to go a step further i just wonder what kind of like the voting franchise might they would have in that time period if it would basically be sticking people with swords while they're waiting a long. or a lot of behavior that would make us feel like we've come a long way riker and i'm much more civilized than sit here and be able to vote course not privately no i don't vote anyway because if you know everybody's is fighting their battles and they're claiming their stakes to be around so i guess you know where it will live not it was about i'd say if i love the king to offer one the best though i'm with you there i don't know why that made. one for stan as for wrapping in and mike the red source rig the smoke monster that came out of china that could've been tomorrow let's move on. so couple weeks ago we railed against mayor bloomberg because he wanted to ban thirty two ounce sodas in new york and unfortunately fairly other cities out there think that this is a good idea. the mayor of cambridge has determined that it's a good idea to follow mayor bloomberg sleeve and she wants to be an large sugary
6:49 pm
drinks as well and actually they're going to tell you what you can eat it almost every meal and they're just going to limit almost every aspect of your life because this is what you see people do these people wake up every day waiting to just day and six. i kind of feel the same way people i mean though i understand that there's like a fight against obesity we need to have but i still fundamentally disagree that not allowing you to buy a large soda is going to be you know i think the most significant part about this story is it's in the city of cambridge which is home to harvard university the place where students drink so as to stay up all night and study i think of bill that's not right i mean let's be honest i have some other tricks up their sleeve. but good point good very innocent point i mean the fact that students need a lot of cagny acts are going to riot. i think this is another case of trying to protect the people from themselves i mean if you think about trying to solve a behavioral problem in greater boston right ok so you know the place where people
6:50 pm
drink too much they get funny what's the problem high fructose corn. everyone who walked down the street hand in hand with people from new york to be no problem saying yeah they've been drinking they'd lose like half of their they want to go so far. yeah i mean i just think that it's kind of crazy that you have to start like sixteen ounces nothing larger than sixteen it's really not that as a guy who's kind of in shape but also kind of out of shape i don't need any more competition in terms of like talking to girls playing sports like i can have everyone on this planet be in good shape because i'm going to lead me through and i'm really and. even more uncomfortable than right now. because that's where. oh that's i don't even know where to begin with this woman but we do a lot of you know piracy stories on the show time after time we've seen study after study come out that shows the. in fact there is a direct direct correlation between people that like to preview material or
6:51 pm
material and sales like the more that you get a taste of it the more you're actually going to go out and buy become a consumer of these kind of products but this one this one is good so her name is hellion lynn vol and so she wrote a piece for the guardian she's a professional songwriter and musician and she basically blamed the state of pop music on piracy her little expert says excerpts could it be that instead of creating a more level playing field in opportunities for say a new nirvana or smashing pumpkins to break through piracy and the unwillingness to pay for music is creating a self-perpetuating conveyor belt of cookie cutter pop stars. i can't you know you can just blame bad pop music on piracy not to mention that there's been bad pop music for a long time way before people were you know she's up to no to fan the bay city rollers right or anything else from the seventy's that sounds pretty much like what she's talking about i mean she has a point in that the internet has done an incredible job of democratizing crap right
6:52 pm
so it's easier than ever i mean how many there's twenty four hours of you tube videos uploaded every second like pretty sure we don't need all the. but her overall argument is going to do that makes more is a no no sense because if everybody can just upload their crap including their pop music crap on the you tube that it doesn't mean that you know giant record labels are getting behind them and you don't have to have that whole system. to play and so then that just makes no sense because then why would the record labels be looking for actual you know talented i think it's actually a band i think she's actually like the wife of a member of a big time band that hates piracy and wants to blame it on you know get something i was married to one of the guys in metallica those are fun people. i would love the timing of the story could be better i'd love to see this show and in a fight with the girl from n.p.r. that admitted that she's only ever paid for fifteen albums and she has twenty thousand songs. if you saw that i did not speak she wrote a whole book. yeah exactly so that's would be an excellent undercard for the next
6:53 pm
takio for those two. you know i can't say that i know you know when i was younger everybody definitely downloaded their music it's just that i was going where there wasn't the option to download music when i was young there was a music. star trying to not go to the live i go to lied to this next story which i just find hilarious i mean so obviously one of the critiques that we hear a lot about mitt romney is that he's boring is a bit of a robot here that has kind of a good example. she. likes the way a solo at the very. least. parts of the show. well it turns out that not only is he boring when he speaks but nobody
6:54 pm
wants to read about him i think this is hilarious he mitt romney is bad for internet traffic basically buzz feed decided to create two sets of like. photo heavy posts focused on the early lives that romney and the early lives of obama and baby obama just blew a baby romney away i think it was sixty thousand views for baby photos of obama and only six thousand for her views of her. baby photos. and how many people that were looking at obama photos were actually looking to try to see if he was actually like in africa or something in the background well that's the thing is that he gets people who were intrigued that romney is going to go boring that you don't even and i guess maybe that's that that's better that kind of cookie cutter image i mean there's will probably be known as the obama effect sometime in the future this country's going to have a really hard time going back to a boring white guy in charge now that we don't have one i think of how we were in two hundred thirty whatever you. should be able do the math to do exactly how many
6:55 pm
numbers might look like i know a lot more but i mean it's true i mean he's screaming you know on the best case for electing romney right now because it will probably have to go outside more and you have something to do because. he's also listen to be. firing words of wisdom no i mean you know. what are going to be like if we never had the old white guy president again would be like a new new shadow government is like what do we have a pretty oh the guy we've been the guy with like the baseball glove name and something else i mean his presidency would be like having a twenty four hour network dedicated to how i met your mother. i mean it would just be boring white people talking about boring white people things all. night long again is pretty bad but then you always have to you know kind of protect yourself against this. the charm of obama because that what he does charge everyone's pants off and the policies are not exactly what i call charming or broke a lot of promises not charming this is by any means let's move on to this probably
6:56 pm
the last when they were going to have time for but. so this woman you know a lot of people are just getting fed up with the t.s.a. we've had a lot of people film and don't touch my junk and a fifty nine year old woman from bonita springs florida was arrested at the southwest florida international airport and she was charged for misdemeanor battery for allegedly groping a t.s.a. supervisor and she says here's a little video that she was just trying to attempts to demonstrate the inappropriate groping that she experienced at the hands of another t.s.a. transportation security officer. i mean it all i think all the more power to you you know i mean i i i don't know i think it's one of those situations where you got to say don't hate the player hate the game you know what i mean like this don't like the supervisor even. for saying that the rules of the system and i wonder if some of them get a little heavy handed you know i got to i got to groping and i think the woman was
6:57 pm
a little rough well we i mean we all looked and nobody really likes to say right i mean we all know it's a problem it's kind of the appearance of security as opposed to actual security this woman first of all it was a pretty big move she just got signed by the redskins i mean this is the. but just the. the aspect of this bugs me is that every time you go to the airport you've got one person barking orders and six people standing around like they don't know what to do there's a they don't need that many agents i mean that business plan works for the teamsters starbucks but it's not so great for national security or for t.s.a. last time when we were flying back through philly from net roots there were people there were just sitting in the hallways telling you like turn right just to make sure that you didn't turn to sharp and fall over was the biggest wave i mean i got to ride of course because we got on the show like ten seconds thanks for joining you guys that's it for tonight show thanks for tuning in make me come back tomorrow if you're less ronnie colic and mike l. if you're going to be joining us for happy hour and in the meantime don't forget to
