beyond not just diplomacy rules but any common decency. says the top diplomat slammed you as threats that moscow will pay the price for the syrian unrest and accuses foreign powers of blackmail over u.n. action against a moscow. a new wave of mass social unrest sweeping israel after a man sets himself on fire to protest the prime minister's policies he claims are dropping the people. and football new man at the top backs anglin supreme probably ok palau is confirmed as russia's head coach.
9:01 am
it's five pm in the russian capital this is r t coming to you live i mean he's now late with our top story and moscow says its founder arm twisting tactics from foreign partners who want to push through a un resolution on syria which could allow the use of external force. unfortunately we've even seen some elements of blackmail i consider it talk to the counterproductive and dangerous approach because it is unacceptable to use the observers as a bargaining chip but it's. largest greater all over has been after that conference heard the words from the foreign minister what kind of bargain is circular talking about here. well what russia wants to see is the extension of the u.n. monitoring program on the ground in syria now they proposed a resolution to the un security council which says just thus now some of russia's
9:02 am
foreign partners have come forward and said yes we'll vote for your resolution if you vote for the second resolution has been put put forward by countries such as the united states and great britain now the wording of the second resolution is open to interpretation it could see foreign military intervention in syria now this is something that russia have always been against they don't want to see any foreign military intervention because they don't want to see the situation in syria turn out the same way as the situation in libya prompting sergei lavrov to say that well russia feels blackmailed let's go back to comments that were made a little while ago by the u.s. secretary of state hillary clinton in which she said china and russia were to blame for the ongoing conflict in syria saying that essentially they had blood on their hands and would have to pay a price for a minister lover of reacting well less than pleased you could say to those comments saying that this wasn't the way that the plane was the should be done to negotiate
9:03 am
some acceptable to blame it all on russia and china and especially to resort to threats like they will keep with us which is beyond not just diplomacy rules but he comes to do since so far it's the syrian people fully unwillingness of some of our foreign partners to observe the u.n. security council decision sanctions he was reached. well those syrian people it's a love role of mention there all the ones that russia wants to see decide the future of the country there have been claims that russia is supporting the assad government these were dismissed out of hand by. a business with those and they tell us that we need to convince nasa to step down voluntarily as needed and that is simply unrealistic but this is not about our preferences likes or dislikes he will not step down not because we becky mup but because he has the support of a significant part of the country's population. foreign minister lavrov the setting out russia's stall when it comes to the ongoing crisis in syria all of this of
9:04 am
course coming as kofi annan is in the midst of his all important visit to moscow to discuss the future of the conflict ridden middle eastern country. but let's now get more reaction from dr arnie mohamad the editor in chief of the syrian tribune website joining us from dubai in the united arab emirates this time thanks for being with us russia says foreign partners are trying to blackmail the country in order to secure their draft resolution to the un their attempt seems to be failing so far is there any way for them to bypass russia on there so what other methods do you think could be used against the state if it blocks the document. i don't think they can bypass russia no and yes i agree with mr lavrov that they are using a lot of blackmailing techniques. we have seen them. agree on something and then do the exact opposite on the ground we have seen them support
9:05 am
the militia. militia with weapons with money with. even. talks a few days ago about. support and we all know what that meant in libya so they are trying to create a situation where russia has absolutely no option but to do what they want unfortunately for them distillation is not being created because of the unity and strength of the syrian army and because of the awareness of the syrian. foreign policy as well as the foreign policy such as china and specially russia so i don't think they will be able to bypass russia not that the red cross has recently declared that syria is a non international armed conflict this is the same technical term for civil war that we heard in terms of libya and then after that face nato military action there just nine days after that announcement from the red cross concerning libya do you
9:06 am
think syria holds a similar fate. you don't think so and. yes i know that many parties in the world especially the western world. for syria to hold the same fate as libya but i don't see things going that way for many reasons but those who want to create a pretext for for foreign intervention and. they want to promote an image where syria is in fact in civil war they do this publicly and then they claim that they want the welfare of the syrian people but how can you promote civil war and. then claim to be on the side of the syrian people that's nonsense and as for whether or not they will succeed so far there are no signs that they will every attempted the proxy rebels on the ground did has so far failed and terribly and believe this one was just yesterday in damascus. based on what is happening on the ground
9:07 am
now nor syria is not going towards the libyan scenario no. pointless to push for regime change as president that enjoys significant support within syria and that they will continue to back up what the syrian people want how do you see that what's your take. definitely think mr lavrov for there because it seems to me that it's only the russian diplomacy and the chinese diplomacy sometimes. actually considering what the syrian people want while all others decide that they are the ones to decide that they want the western. nation the western countries. they want only one thing they want to decide who wins and who loses and particularly who loses they just want to see a said losing and for many syrians it's not about it's about syria itself and does enjoy a great support within the country and even those who do not support him directly
9:08 am
they see him as a stability figure and they don't want to see him. overthrown because it means to them their country will be in bigger trouble if happens. so you don't think we'll see an end to civil war if he quote losers like you. will again it's not about him losing it's about syria losing or winning a european and to violence if it is forced out just briefly. we are seeing violence right now we're going to see an end to violence if you push violence. i don't see this happening let's take a look at libya for example violence is still happening there until now on a daily basis let's take a look at. other countries where such issues happened instead billet is the key word in each and every country that this happened besides. those enjoyed the support of a great majority of the syrian people not to mention the support of the army which
9:09 am
is quite obvious to everybody so. we're going to have to leave it there thank you very much for your comments the editor in chief of the syria tribune website. thank you. we're with r t still to come the developments in another arab country in the grip of unrest the bahraini crackdown on anti regime activists continues with those disclosing human rights violations in the gulf state being expelled from the country. and doomsday fears are spreading across europe are to meet an austrian so certain of the euro two minds that it's already stocking up on fuel and food. but first more oil has been poured on the fire of israeli social pro taskmasters rallies marking the movement's first anniversary have been spurred on by an act of self immolation thousands of people have gathered in the streets authorities policy here have
9:10 am
a point. what we see now is the whole issue of economic and social concerns been back in the mainstream israeli discourse and this comes in light of the anniversary protests hold this past weekend around the country marking those social protests that were held in the summer months of last year if you remember those demonstrations the largest number of israelis in this country's history take to the streets of this country now the protests climaxed on a saturday night when an israeli form a small businessmen sitting south on fire he's currently fighting for his life is in critical condition and he's suffering from a second and third degree burns the sense that he did this because the israeli government was literally robbing him of his livelihood and his future since saturday there have been solidarity protests held around the country on sunday these two thousand people took to the streets of a major highway here in tel aviv in jerusalem there were clashes between protesters and police in front of the prime minister's residence and what we've seen from
9:11 am
organizers of these demonstrations is a hope that this incident has injected a new anger and a new passion that will mobilize israelis back onto the streets these protests also have a throwback to the occupy wall street demonstrations we saw last year at that time they were slogans similar being valued across here in israel people calling these demonstrations occupy his role as indeed the anger and frustration at the government and the fact that it's done so little since last year to address real social concerns as that anger grows people are making a parallel between what happened here in israel with this man moshe solomon satan himself in light with the street vendor who set himself on fire back in december two thousand and ten the netanyahu government following those this demonstrations last few disick up a committee to investigate but most israelis feel that it has done little to precious to nothing to actually address the concerns the justification by the government has been that it has no prison concerns such as that. the question of
9:12 am
ongoing violence in syria to to to to address but many people here feel that this is merely an excuse not to put attention on the real concern at the same time there's also the feeling here talking to protest organizers that these demonstrations could move from economic protests to political considerations there is of course the arab spring which never quite interesting over the long run we have in today's newspapers in an opinion and. perhaps this could be the spark that will see the arab revolution finally firmly implanted self in israeli society . but israel is the latest leg of a negotiation tour by the u.s. secretary of state hillary clinton or the jewish state's times with troubled egypt will top talks the post-election political standoff in cairo is also up for discussion in cross talk coming up later on r.t. here's a preview. what's the point of having elections if you're elected and you can sit
9:13 am
in your position of power you know we're in a situation in transition i mean we're talking about a country that hasn't had them are grossly in thousands of years they had successful elections they had to say a lot of going around that's going on right now if we go if we play it out in sequence when it's likely. it's likely to as a foundation for this process then there are possibilities that it can succeed stephen thinks that what we're watching is a transition is a muddy transition where people are stumbling around making mistakes and having teaching moments ago them grow from i'm not sure that we're in the midst of a transition we might be in the midst of a retrenchment i. filmmaker and veteran human rights activist john marlowe was kicked out of bahrain while making a documentary on the uprising there which he was one of few western journalists
9:14 am
left in the. which is intensifying its crackdown and intimidation campaign against protesters along with a media blackout the saudi backed regime has recently banned all forms of public protest well she joins us herself now from beirut to talk about what is happening in bahrain you've spent time in situ are known as the heart of bahrain's uprising what is the situation like there. hi it's great to be here the audio feed seems to have a lot of static though so i wasn't able to quite hear your question can you just tell us a little bit about the situation in bahrain in terms of what you've seen and how you have witnessed the up the uprising. oh absolutely i spent about three weeks in bahrain and i was i was largely embedded you could say with the pro democracy and human rights activists while i was there and what i
9:15 am
witnessed is an increasing increasing repression against the pro-democracy and human rights activists in the short time that i was in bahrain i felt like the situation was actually deteriorating and house raids and arrests and attempts to silence free speech are all intensifying right now in bahrain. just reading your blog you paint a very grim picture is this only happening in places like sutra or is it across the country how widespread is the crackdown. from what i could see it is across the country it is it is extremely widespread in villages and towns all over rain there is violent repression of attempts to demonstrate and attempts to protest even more alarming much more increase of house raids at night in middle of the night in villages all over riot police coming in and
9:16 am
surrounding houses brutally arresting people and imprisoning them taking people from restaurants swimming pools their private homes. this practice of targeting activists and demonstrators fortunately seems to be on the rise and very widespread right now. on the rise how long can the opposition last how much more punishment can the protesters take before their movement either loses momentum or just becomes too dangerous. well they been going for seventeen months now going strong and actually the word mood is the capturing these of the bahraini revolution samoud meaning endure and or to be steadfast so i did not see any signs of things slowing down or people losing stamina in fact i saw signs of people really of being reenergized and people really being committed to the long
9:17 am
term sacrifices that that's needed for their struggle for democracy. and only time will tell i guess how how long they will be able to keep struggling but i did not see any signs of people giving up i saw signs of people reinvigorated you've also written about police making little distinction between children and adults can you tell us more about. from what i could see there is absolutely no distinction between civilians of any kind the police what i saw happening and protests and demonstrations is the police arbitrarily firing tear gas canisters not as a method of crowd dispersal but firing direct firing them directly at crowds and so whoever ends up being in the way and that getting hit whether that's a thirteen year old boy or a fifteen year old or or a woman or a man it's they're being used as as ammunition these tear gas canisters and sound
9:18 am
grenades as well as birdshot not as a method of crowd dispersal. you are in my earpiece just fell out ok i will give you a second term mars is better to me just up to get more waiting for her to put her with us on the line from beirut kicked out of bach rain she's a filmmaker there you are we have your back i just want to say that i was talking about your organization while we lost you there and you weren't the first member of that organization to be barred from bahrain in february a dozen of your colleagues were also denied visas the regime is very determined to keep you guys out aren't they. oh absolutely i think the bahraini regime is very determined not to let what's happening be exposed and so anyone who's going to bahrain with the purpose of the agenda of trying to show what's happening and trying to really expose the reality on the ground there is. to keep them out and
9:19 am
keep them silent as much as possible. ok and what what's next for you i mean you have a documentary project on. effect really it's coming to the u.n. as i understand now that you have no access to the country how will you continue to work. oh the irony of all of this is they deported me as i was leaving anyway i mean they caught me in the airport at passport control getting ready to get on the plane so i had already completed what i had gone to bahrain to do so i imagine the only reason they are detaining me at all was to see if they could squeeze information from me or to see if they could get footage from me which of course they did not and could not so i have a lot of work ahead of me working on writing working on editing i have a lot of work ahead of me working to expose the stories that i had access to and
9:20 am
i'll continue to do that work but we wish you the best of luck john marlow u.s. documentary filmmaker and human rights activist advocate i should say banned from bahrain at least for now the best of luck to you thanks for being with us on the line from beirut. thank you. now another news former england manager fabio capello has been named russia's national football coach it's been confirmed by the country's football federation of all the details of his contract are yet to be finalized our very own andrew farmer from our two sport has more. fabio capello a massive name in football famous for leading england for the last four years he did step down from there after falling out with the english f.a. but i mean apart from his success of getting them to the euros he did it all to get them to the world cup in two thousand and ten not a successful campaign that has to be said that was part of the reason he went but he comes with a great track record before he took over england he won the champions league he
9:21 am
also won league titles and italy and also in spain with major clubs there so he's a big fish in the footballing world and he when he was. in charge of england he did in around about six million pounds a year and it was thought in the media that if anyone could perhaps compete with that sort of salary would be the russians were not sure what his salary would be but they have said in the build up to this that he would be a man that would be prepared to stay and work in russia which is something big africa and the guus hiddink the manager before him didn't do. more on all our stories that are to dot com here's the work of what's there for you now at a time of broward workmanship given the go ahead by bringing a lawmaker midwestern especially if the cover of developing. and a brand new world class race track opens its doors in the mask our region with how it could hold formula one races in the future.

with many of saving projects emerging and fouling the public are getting more and more disillusioned with their leaders attempts to deliver solutions are these are some a boy talk to one austrian who believe people should save their own skin. it seems like a place where the grass is always green and where every cloud has a silver lining but even in this a deal exciting in western australia there are fears of an economic doomsday. but the last few years has been converting his house into fully self-sufficient residence and his reasons a purely economic. to those on economist who got the worst case scenario preparing for is the total collapse of the economy there would be problems with food

electricity water supply so i want to make sure we could waste this time when money will be worthless. solar panels wind turbine and emergency generator he's now producing more than two thirds of the power he needs the cows in the garden should provide a backup if supermarkets. and in case a fuel shortages there is also a radial turn in chief. while this scenario may seem to apocalyptic the hillbillies the euro collapse and the ensuing social upheaval is a matter of when rather than if the political politicians keep talking about decreasing debts but what they do is just to prove. that a new steps no new solutions and what to do about this whole situation the rude awakening is coming we all hope to postpone it but eventually it will come of. still asked us to change his name and not to give out his address out of concern
9:24 am
that in case of the total collapse his europe proved refuge will be inundated by the angry and hungry as the fears are not entirely foreign to many europeans especially of an older generation this part of the world peers to be rather their forefront of the cold war and preparing for the worst was part of the government's contingency plans but the idea that calamity mekon from them in europe rather than outside is relatively new and therefore all the more frightening after day kids of increasing prosperity the thought of losing basic comforts is still rather hard to take in for many northern europeans but on the other hand a few years ago their southern neighbors couldn't imagine that soup kitchens would become so popular in greece or that food aid would be in such demand in spain some people say the gold care for the government. i'm responsible for myself let's say about fifty percent of the. citizens may think in this way. but the majority will

troy's to reach an alliance with the state run ross yes but the deal was brought by oh another fallout left the company without operating boards of b.p. ended up putting a stake out for the sale at the start of the what you know is anticipation and they said that right now is have a look at the european markets and see how they're getting on i would have pretty much a lackluster performance really for the european stock markets today especially when you compare last week when we saw the euro stop fifty completing its longest stretch of weekly gains in more than two years but right now as you can see what if it's in the dark just dipping their toes into red territory as to the exchange rates and if we can have a look at the common currency receive all of this staging a recovery last week there's now real concern that the extent of the private sector involvement in spanish is now weighing down the year there's. and so revelations come out today as you can see we've got a ruble now. and we're going to stay with russia we're going to check out the stock
