11:00 pm
well i'm tell marvin in washington d.c. and here's what's coming up tonight on the big picture why republicans so happy about a jobs plan that doesn't create jobs and will a third party candidate throw a wrench at mitt romney's presidential hopes all that and more in tonight's lone liberal rumble and despite what the mayans said the world is not ending in december but it might be ending in january of congress doesn't get its act together the lawmakers in washington understand just how much our economy is for and can they do what it takes to keep it afloat and for the fourth night a row protests broke out in the streets of anaheim last night and community members quiet with police what provoked last night's wilds and were police in the wrong for shooting civilians with rubber bullets.
11:01 pm
you need to know this on last night's show i talked about dog whistle politics and how mitt romney isn't afraid to talk in code to appeal to the racist whack jobs in his party who really think president obama was born in kenya or that somehow he's a foreigner. you're saying that president obama's policies are foreign might sound benign to the general electorate to a much smaller target a group of individuals like the tea party the far right and fox so-called news viewers basically the crazies who actually think the president was born in kenya more than half of fox viewers do or who are uncomfortable with a black man in the white house characterizing the president as foreign has a very clear meaning it's the republican dog whistle and mitt romney isn't at all afraid to get the mud with these whack jobs and tell them what they want to
11:02 pm
hear. well just as i was saying those words the romney campaign was taking a deep breath and getting ready to give another really loud toot on the old dog whistle as reported yesterday in the british newspaper the daily telegraph a romney campaign advisor told telegraph reporter john swain that mitt romney will have better relations with the u.k. than president obama mainly because one of president obama's parents was black here's the exact quote from the romney campaign advisor as reported we are part of an anglo-saxon heritage and romney feels that these special relationship is special the white house didn't fully appreciate the shared history we have. as swain writes about the comment and about the fellow who made the comment in remarks that one may prompt or that may prompt accusations of racial insensitivity one suggested that you want to run these advisors suggested that mr romney was better placed to understand the depth of ties between the two countries than mr obama whose father
11:03 pm
was from africa and quote maybe it could be called racially insensitive because one of the main definitions of anglo-saxon means blond haired people from the german state of saxony you conquered the british isles back around five hundred eighty so to prove just how white man anglo-saxon is mitt romney will return to the u.k. the winston churchill bust of president obama that president bush had displayed in the oval office you know because people whose parents came from africa just can't appreciate winston churchill and one of them is in the white house now hint hint hey of you knows what color skin is romney arrived in london today on his anglo-saxon appreciation to er and met with british prime minister david cameron u.k. is currently meyer in a double deep. double deep double dip recession thanks to cameron's austerity policies the same sort of austerity irani wants to bring to the united states it's an austerity that makes bankers like romney and barclays even richer it screws
11:04 pm
average working people so much so that working people have been protesting in the streets of london for months and such austerity it's young people and minorities particularly are let's face it from here until november mitt romney will use dog whistle politics either through bashing president obama's foreign dark skinned heritage or through promoting his own white skin anglo-saxon heritage all in an effort to speak to the races since party who actually do turn out and vote in large numbers and he's hoping that if he blows that dog was allowed enough in his own genuinely foreign ties or main hidden like the fact that he has more offshore foreign bank accounts and carmen sandiego or the fact that he was with has working for him a lobbyist in campaign butler loffler who as the center for american progress reports is a paid agent of a foreign government earning a paycheck to protect promote a system developed hong kong's economic and trade interests in the united states of america or the fact that one or romney's biggest supporters sheldon adelson and
11:05 pm
macau casino tycoon that's macau as in part of communist china has pledged to spend more than one hundred million dollars helping romney is known to have business dealings with the chinese tong is that they're they're getting a quote of the mafia president obama is not a foreigner he was born america raised america went to school america and has devoted his life to public service in america but romney knows he can pick up a few million more votes if he blows that dog whistle to get one simple message across to resist voters and that is they'll bring a white man's touch to the white house let's all keep pointing out the appeals to twisted hatred that lie just under the surface of romney's rhetoric and put an end to dog whistle politics in america. it's wednesday are you ready to rumble joining me for times long liberal rumbalara laughlin mark a investigative reporter with the heritage foundation center for media and public policy and judson phillips associate director of the tea party dot net joe thanks
11:06 pm
for joining me you just heard the my rant the exact quote from romney adviser and surrogate and official spokesperson just talk to the newspapers was we are part of an anglo-saxon heritage and romney feels that the special relationship is special the white house doesn't fully appreciate the shared history we have and then a little later the the author of the piece the reporter who interviewed the this romney spokesperson said that you know one suggested that is the spokesperson mr romney was better placed to understand the depth of ties between the two countries than mr obama whose father was from africa. dog whistle politics again is this it worked for george herbert walker bush willie horton ads even though willie horton was released on a program that was set up by the former republican governor of massachusetts before dukakis it worked for broad reagan opening his campaign in philadelphia mississippi
11:07 pm
where three civil rights workers were murdered in the town of seven thousand people is this what we're going to see again just mostly we have a unattributed unnamed quote from somebody in the campaign reported by a british newspaper the romney campaign has denied it disavowed any comment like that is so well where's this all going where's is coming from we just had the newspaper stand behind the story and the eighty four and the day beast for romney gave a speech in which he said that obama was extraordinarily foreign the day before that john sununu came out and said oh he was you know it not only is he foreign but he was you growing up in hawaii lived in indonesia as a kid and therefore doesn't understand is america. he the part that he doesn't understand america is not true he doesn't understand america i mean he acts like. he has he has no clue about america he wants to be a dictator he acts in such a manner he ignores the constitution ignores the rule of law he just says are you
11:08 pm
serious i think that kind of rhetoric is going to win you an election. well it's the truth and i mean the time here you know i'm i'm reading at the moment the biography of alexander hamilton who was a total anglo file and in fact probably wanted the biggest most level the highest level of government involvement in the country of any of the founding fathers he was a student of and revered the law and that's very much part of the british tradition that that the country was founded upon so you know and you want to head on or if you are going to are of you i would like to finish atsushi wanted a larger role for government and. the law and doing it through the law so i think that's what's really lacking from from this president obama's style of government is this feeling that. you know his priorities supersede the law that if he feels it's in the best interest of the country he doesn't need to abide by sandra hamilton was born in bermuda that's correct he was he did not have a father he was he was widely viewed by by the the
11:09 pm
the british nobility in the gentry the people who ended up fighting against the idea of marriage as absolutely exactly and that's why i think that it is not and it's not a good analogy i mean here you've got barack obama who didn't have a father who grew up poor just like alexander hamilton did and then who made something of himself and he was a constitutional law professor in the editor of the harvard law and of golf a lot of us anything about hamilton be part of the not really similar that that connection to british common law and that tradition of the legal supremacy is nothing to the president we all adults and obama other than the color of their skin as reflected in their political philosophy sure barack obama does not feel he's constrained by the law while hamilton revered hamilton was a raging federalist i mean yes samant. was all of our lives on government involvement in the economy don't think that women involvement need to needed to be inscribed in the law and to have the law as written needed to be recycled you've
11:10 pm
got to the part that biography were hamilton introduced as eleven point plan where he had this huge debate with jefferson and then he introduces eleven point plan to create american manufacturers and proposed tariffs and all this kind of stuff i mean this hamilton was all about building basically america with government working with business talk a lot of it is saying get government out but isn't the point in this anglo-saxon comment is that this country does have a very strong british tradition in its in its political philosophy and it's one that says the law is genetically no no no that it's really only into no it's not even culturally it's written into our founding legal documents they're very much in the tradition so we're not as you know any of that suggest that barack obama doesn't understand that this is going to think he doesn't understand it i'm saying he doesn't agree with it. what what specifically judson does obama not agree with the constitution table in the car for example he just gutted the welfare to work
11:11 pm
requirement for welfare and the welfare reform act of one thousand or is that a constitution it's not the constitution the constitution what are you guys to be honest i don't think the constitution says bills originate in the congress and then are signed by the president they become law the president does not have the authority to unilaterally vacate a law absolutely actually it's not that's not the case if i had my own constitution are you going to the executive branch has the authority and has the responsibility to execute the laws that are made by congress but doesn't have the it doesn't have the requirement to do so the executive branch in fact has a long history not only of ignoring congress i mean you know what was his name in in eight hundred thirty eight ignore the supreme court you know in the in their case because the cherokee indians and or jackson he said you know justice whatever his name is is made john marshall has made his decision let him try to enforce it presidents have a long history of ignoring the other two branches one nine hundred seventy two richard nixon refused to spend money that congress had appropriated i can't think of the name of the case that went to the supreme court supreme court says you have
11:12 pm
to follow a president you have to follow the law as done by congress it's been signed into law you have to follow it well i don't i can't speak to that case i'm not familiar with but i can tell you the president's consul i mean this is this is the going on right now you know with with with president obama deciding where he's going to spend money with regard to immigration you know the ins has or the ice now has a certain budget but there's not enough money to spend so the executive branch is deciding where to spend it congress doesn't like it but what laws not to enforce yeah exactly and he has the right to do that i you know it's ok will you agree to disagree or rubble after the break. ult.

the fact that a nice lone liberal on will join in your laughlin mark a investigative reporter with the heritage foundation's center for media and public policy and judson phillips associate director of the tea party dot net let's get back to it republicans are. patting themselves on the back for passing thirty two so-called jobs bill that they say bills that they say are going to put americans back to work the only problem is that real economists don't agree with them the gary burtless an economist of brookings for example they have imposed survey done think of some forty. economist gary burtless said a lot of these things are laughable in terms of a jobs plan that would produce knows full improvements across the country this is from brookings i mean there are you know there were the republicans half the time when the democrats have time whatever mark zandi chief economist or chief economist at moody's analytics agreed arguing that the thirty two jobs bills would have no effect on job creation short term and and any that would take three or five years
11:16 pm
to kick in so if the republicans. well. let me let me reframe that if the republicans are really not trying to put people back to work is that in fact a genuine demonstration of this three years strategy of theirs to make obama one term president by destroying the economy a lock on no i don't think so you know i think it speaks to the fact that there's really not much the federal government can do to spur job creation in the short term and i think that. well yeah i think i did at a certain point you need to focus on what events on your part what you know we do in japan bombed pearl harbor i think there are certain policies that need to be put in place to prevent further job losses and i'm glad to see that congressional republicans are focused on that unfortunately we saw today you know the massive tax hike zero nine hundred forty thousand small businesses seems to be going ahead as planned among senate democrats so you know i think point talking about people who are in over
11:17 pm
a quarter my i think we were talking about corporations that file taxes as individuals right those individuals are getting income of over two hundred but were thousand dollars a year in the taxes are going to go up three percent there's a difference weeping for them there a difference between the income and revenues are when they're having to pay how much they're being taxed on the money that they're being brought that is being brought in yes they do get to duck certain things but it's still going to hurt small businesses the problem is if the small businesses were so proliferated in the united states they were the small business you know every in the fifty's in the sixty's in the seventy's in the eighty's every single mall every single downtown it was all locally owned small businesses the top tax rate was ninety percent now the top tax rate is thirty five percent and people like romney it's fifteen percent and small businesses are are vanishing and you actually tax revenue was virtually no higher when the top tax rate was nationalized corporate for thirty five percent a year talked about the top then and then accounts for nine percent now the point
11:18 pm
is that when you raise taxes to such enormous heights inevitably there are going to be. more ways people are going to find more they're going to put their money in places where they write the principals that put their money is in their business they are more employment but the point point is people will avoid paying rates that are that puter that's right by not taking the money out his pay and instead hiring more employees but in keeping the money in the business of big problems you have between the one nine hundred fifty s. and today here's the cost of regulation in two thousand and ten the s.b.a. released a report that said every employee cost regulatory cost for every employee of a small business is ten thousand five hundred eighty five dollars not since now it's in a small business of about fifteen employees i you know the regulatory cost is minimal this is what the s.b.a. and it's mostly has to do with tax law is taxes there's other forms of compliance course you're going to get hit with a two thousand dollars per employee fine if you don't have obamacare soon but yeah you've got all these things i provide full one hundred percent paid health insurance to all of my full time employee good all of the good i think i think any
11:19 pm
business in america should don't you i think if i think it's a great benefit to all for if a business can do it should other businesses or shouldn't health care basically be a right of existence on this planet and should we say to any business you know if you're not going to pay your people well and provide them with at least health insurance you have no right to do business in this country go someplace else of course if they if they weren't providing full i mean if you didn't have to spend the extra whatever it is five ten thousand dollars a year per employee to cover them to give them health insurance about it might be able to be able to add that to their salary and maybe they could go out and shop for their own health insurance so you know their wife's the price because they'd be they would be in a group plan point being that when a business provides health insurance it's not free health insurance that's less money that they can pay the salaries but it but well and as i said they've had to do quick question republican stars and you guys know why the republicans put the stars upside down in terms of the normal stars of the state and stars. and i just i
11:20 pm
waiting some day somebody is going to come on this program who knows the answer but i tell you what i have i have been up. point tomorrow at the r. and c. to see a couple you can ask them i'm going to ask them just for you to come on this program and tell me absolutely will i will headline it i would love you we actually will if you if you get a genuine answer i will i will put you on the air that ok move over mitt there's another guy trying to steal some of the spotlight in november is joe trippi writes in the fox news dot com piece gary johnson libertarian party candidate for president could have a big impact on the outcome in november johnson could end up being in the presidential debates if he's in the presidential debates he's going to be taken on romney from the right from wrong he's right arguably and then it could have a similar effect to ross perot in the ninety two election which i mean there's still a debate there are people who say ross perot threw it to clinton there's others who say ross perot you know would have you know clinton would have won bigger had ross perot not been there or whatever you know that if he helped clinton or bush but
11:21 pm
ralph nader you know maybe took away votes from al gore he did say takes up but you know i don't think he had anything to do with the election being one of the last but any at will johnson make a meaningful done in this election and should romney be worried lauchlan i don't think so you know in virtually any other election i'd say it's possible because the american people just don't seem to like either political party i'd say you know going with the third party option might be something that would appeal to them but i think unlike a lot of prior elections ninety two being one of them you know there's a very very distinct choice of direction that the two candidates are offering right now yeah so so i think that you know but jetson there's this huge faction or that you're the tea party right there's this huge faction in the republican party the all these tea partiers who came in and a lot of the tea partiers are a lot closer to gary johnson than they are to mitt romney some are there gary johnson scalzi gary johnson has some issues that are attractive to folks in the tea
11:22 pm
party but when they start looking on the ballot when it comes to november it's easy to. say these things now three months out but when they're looking on the ballot and thinking ok it is going to risk four more years of barack obama or i'm going to suck it up and vote for romney a lot of them are going to suck it up and vote for romney but the real spoiler the real guy who may be a spoiler is not gary johnson the real guy who may be the spoiler is virgil goode who is ridge of the virgil goode former congressman from virginia running as the constitution candidate he's trying to get on the ballot in virginia polls show a pretty even race right now without good with good on the ballot romney drops by ten points in just in the state of virginia this is just in the state of virginia that's enough to flip the whole. i don't i mean i don't overact big impact i think in the electoral vote yes i do not see a route for victory for mitt romney if he does not win virginia and jon stewart is for that matter because of course you have to talk about states when you're talking about a third party candidate you know new hampshire may actually be in play and that's traditionally a very libertarian state so you could definitely have an impact there as well and
11:23 pm
in mexico where he was governor made maybe yeah. ok according to a new poll conducted actually not news conducted made by frank wants american gun owners including n.r.a. owners overwhelmingly support control of assault weapons and military style weapons and ammunition eighty seven percent of non n.r.a. gun owners seventy four percent of n.r.a. gun owners approve requiring criminal background checks on gun owners and gun shops similarly a majority of non an array and n.r.a. gun owners think concealed carry permit shouldn't be given to those who committed misdemeanors or a been arrested for domestic investing violence they also think that concealed carry permits should not be given to anyone under twenty one so if the majority of american gun owners and the majority of n.r.a. members believe you know agree that there should be some rational limits on gun ownership in the united states why won't republican lawmakers go along with this just you know the the thing about republicans is you try to get them to go along
11:24 pm
with anything it's like herding cats and why they won't go along with some of. you don't like it because they're scared of the n.r.a. no i don't think it's pretty it's particularly that issue because there are some issues the n.r.a. is amenable to and i'm going to say i'm not a member of the n.r.a. i don't speak for the n.r.a. i was a member of the n.r.a. for five years i some i thought i'd give the disclaimer on the front and i would you know i used to get the newsletter but here's here's the thing what they really ought to be concentrating on and i agree with a lot of things like background checks because we've never allowed convicted felons or lunatics to own guns nor should we but what i think we ought to be doing is really pose far greater draconian penalties for the use of for convicted felons in possession of firearms and also for those who use firearms in the commission of felonies the talk when do you think that's that's going to you know a lot of it you know i think it's interesting that out of the state obviously and this poll got a lot more places the aurora shooting and all of the questions asked all of the policies proposed in that poll none of them would have prevented that none of them
11:25 pm
would've prevented james holmes from doing what he did he didn't have a criminal background he did go through background checks to get guns he was a terrorist so on and so forth so that the majority of americans also support military weapons weapons of war not being available to civilians well i didn't see that in this poll it was in the area but but he had but he this guy had one hundred round clip in an a r fifteen which is you know. basically an assault it's a weapon of war is they at what point do we do we join the majority of americans or what point will the republican party join the majority of americans and say ok let's put the what the assault weapons ban back into place and work for ten years as an assault weapons of meaningless term all right and even the law didn't adequately describe there is no no hotter on earth who needs an air fifteen theirs if they want it you know ice-t. said the firearms are the ultimate defense against tyranny and he pointed to ronnie as being the police so you know there is
