casualties mount in syria rebels reportedly shoot down an army helicopter while the government is accused of massacring over three hundred people as international pressure grows also. activists carrying school supplies of denied entry to the west bank by israel with the country's soldiers also accused of using palestinian children as human shields a lot of reaction on this story very short. and over a hundred nations not in line with the u.s. government to look for global solutions despite washington dismissing the.

on screen international news and comment live from our new center here in moscow heavy clashes continue in the syrian capital as activists claim rebels have shot down the helicopter over damascus the footage allegedly shows a military helicopter engulfed in flames shortly before hitting the ground activists have blamed syrian security forces for killing more than three hundred civilians in the town of daraa where the capital the government has said they carried out an operation in the area the syrian president has vowed to stand firm in the face of what he describes as a foreign plot against his nation. says it's no coincidence the word massacre is once again being used you may find some of the following images. look to see who who who said this it was opposition activists again and straight on putin he comes out and condemn syria before we actually know what's going on and so it's pretty clear that there's an agenda here is to blacken the syrian government's name and to use this as another pretext for intervention it's happened before it happened again
12:02 pm
a great these massacres always seem to happen just on what you and me to we've got to ask ourselves why it's all about the likes of william hague and hillary clinton trying to book pressure on russia trying to change their positions and so before we get any independent verification of what's going on we get these calls from these hawks to say look you know it's murdering his own people we've got to him to be and then when the dust settles and we've planted it when it's not as clear cut as it appeared to be let's think back to who we were told that was the largest massacre were told you know thousands dead hundreds dead hundreds of thousands of people killed and then we because it was a government sponsored later on we find that actually the rebels much of the killing then it was a clear cut so we got to be very very wary it's not a question of taking with a pinch of salt i think going to take a lorry load of salt the very last thing the west wants concern is democracy the very last they want forcible region change and we've already got a democratic solution on having syria constitution in syria we've got free democratic elections that could be held there again opposition could take part in
12:03 pm
the book why doesn't the west want to go down these democratic elections park in syria because they know that my party's too popular they know that if there were elections in syria tomorrow all the parties standing present sat right when and that's the last thing they want so they've got to they've got actually to bomb their way to the government they want because they won't get any other way. well later we talked to german left wing politician who says his government has revealed its to face nature when it comes to the conflict in syria. officially there don't take sides something sure of the. human rights. repression within the country sure enough but officially them are taking the other side with the rebel to whatever informally and we see it from their involvement going over this place upon the ground. invite three and put it to. the time thereafter. here. and officially they seem to take sides but it's clear to me who they are
12:04 pm
somebody selected people and on the basis of which criteria have no clue i mean we now have been invited for final discussion by moderates i mean how can you train some people and other smart i mean we left party linking in germany we have context left politicians some people in syria i would know what i would pick but obviously these are different people. and you can see the full interview with german left wing politician young van auken in about twenty five minutes from now here on our team. israel has blocked around one hundred international pro palestinian activists from crossing into the west bank from jordan they were trying to bring school supplies to children in bethlehem's refugee camps but the incident is not the only one involving palestinian children israeli soldiers are being accused of a longstanding culture of abuse. reports. the israeli defense forces has come
12:05 pm
under fire from its own rank and file an organization known as breaking the silence has published the testimonies of some thirty israeli soldiers and commanders in which they deal specifically with how the idea of treats palestinian children palestinian minors they talk about the opera treat use of violence by soldiers when it comes to children and at the same time they say that very often the idea of deliberately targets children using them as human shields during its operations but these reports also go on to say that even when children are not deliberately targeted they are not afforded any kind of protection when there is a shootout or any kind of military operation now these reports come out on the heels of another two damning conclusions that were reached by two separate groups one being an imminent group of british lawyers and another an international human rights group known as save the children foundation now both of these found that the idea is in violation of international law when it comes to how we treat palestinian
12:06 pm
children they say they very often these children are put into solitary confinement they are treated and abused the army is using things like shackles to extract confessions from these children that those confessions are extracted under duress and also these children are not afforded any kind of legal representation now also this weekend there were demonstrations as indeed there are if we had not be silent which is a palestinian village villagers there are complaining about the gradual encroachments of a nearby settlement on the water supplies they say that those water supplies are being taken over by the citizen as a result they have no water with which to use on the fields all for drinking water but in footage that was captured on camera these soldiers can be seen going from house to house and physically taking people out of their homes one person was injured at least six people were arrested five of whom were children and there are pictures of the daughters of one woman. trying to save their mother as she was
12:07 pm
manhandled by the soldiers who what was. so certainly not a good time for the i.d.f. it's finding out been criticized on any number of fronts. r.t. television. is not order a high stall or he's a former soldier in the israeli army and member of the breaking the silence rights group which blew the whistle on abuses by israeli soldiers and your nice actions accuse israeli army of abusing palestinian children and using them as human shields is this something that you witnessed during your time in the armed forces first of all i mean i served a few years ago one of the examples that i can think of was that in one of the raid operations that we had that we basically invaded the palestinian town in the south of the city of hebron. children started throwing stones at us so it's some point we picked at random kid didn't even necessarily threw stones at us and used him as
12:08 pm
a shield so that the stones that were being thrown by his friends or by his supposed friends would hit him instead of us and we were hoping that that would stop him somehow that would stop his friends from throwing stones obviously didn't help him he just got injured in the in the occasion and what is that saw any other incidents that prompted you joining a time in the army that made you want to speak out. well i have to say that when it comes to children i mean as you can witness from the testimonies that we published and from my own experiences as a soldier i have to say that the main point here is that there is there is no real distinction when it comes to treatment between adults and children the treatment in the in the end is basically the same i mean for example we were doing constant arrest operations throughout the west bank arresting i don't know how many people you know on a nightly basis and many of the people that we were arresting were either children
12:09 pm
or teenagers that in most occasions we didn't even know why they were being arrested for and many of those children by the way we're after wards beaten up on the way back to base do you think you'll be able to change the attitude with your organization breaking the silence rights group you think you have in an impact on soldiers actions in the future. i have to say that breaking the silence aim is not to educate the army and not to be you know some kind of military police our aim is to basically tell our story so the public the israeli public that send us that sends us you know to the west bank or to missions of this kind would basically know what's happening you know on the daily day reality of occupation of military occupation because in the end it's a political decision to maintain this reality and we're trying to make the public understand that there is no way of doing this in a moral way it's not about education it's not about proper conduct it's about the fact that military occupation is immoral by definition and children i guess are
12:10 pm
a big part of the people who get hurt and victimized in this reality so you want to educate the israeli public what sort of image does the army have among the public in your country. i think that if there is one thing the israelis think when they think about the army is this almost a month here that we have the most moral army in the world and to be honest i don't really know about the conduct of other armies i only know from my own experiences and from the testimonies that we collected about the conduct of israeli soldiers and what can i say what i can say in this sense in the end is that this that there is this gap between what israelis expect which means that everything that happens is always a result of palestinian hostilities and everything that we do on the ground is essential in order to provide security for the israeli public and we're here to say that when you send nineteen year olds to do policing job to control through the
12:11 pm
barrel of the gun hundreds of thousands of palestinians in dnd these are the outcomes of their actions you know this is the outcomes of a military occupation just briefly israel has also brought their product we're coming to show the israeli public sure and therefore what what the idea of stopping humanitarian aid going to ask you the question about israel blocking pro palestinian activists from bringing school supplies into the west bank up why would they want to stop humanitarian aid and that sort of action what does that do for israel's reputation. well i think it's less about stopping you many darian help to palestinians and more about trying to block the outside world if it's israelis or if it's people from the international community from actually seeing and exposing the daily day reality that exists there i think that's the main reason why the israeli government is doing everything it can first of all to
12:12 pm
silence organizations like my own like breaking the silence and stopping international activists from reaching the west bank and assisting the palestinians there that i think is the main reason why they are stopping there and what is it doing to the israeli reputation it's definitely not helping it but i think that israel's problem is not foreign relations problem it's not about you know how we present ourselves to the world it's the political reality that in many ways we decide to attain eternal life and. the way that in the end it's implemented on the ground good to talk very interesting to hear your perspective as a former soldier in the israeli army a number of breaking the silence rights group in jerusalem thank you for your time . well still to come this hour here on the hunt for runaway relatives two women from the russian punk band pussy riot have reportedly fled the country to escape arrest and recruit new members. also still to come protest

seen what that actually means and entails now we have to remember back on august seventeenth three members of the pussy riot punk band were convicted on charges of hooliganism sentenced to two years for their controversial stunt the movie really divided opinion here within russia and also raised some serious criticism of the russian government abroad this was a political stunt it certainly worked as we've seen another group called the famine in ukraine which had cut down and orthodox cross their following that action more crosses were actually cut down so regardless of how the pussy riot story plays out it does seem like it is sparking similar action and story is certainly not dying down any time today. german demonstrators have taken their grievances to the doorsteps of mosques in the country they've been brandishing caricature of the prophet muhammad which part of violent backlash the first time they appeared in denmark peter oliver has been following events. demonstrators in germany display

courage to choose of the prophet mohammed outside a mosque german courts gave the green light to allow the cartoons of mohammed to be displayed saying they were protected by artistic freedom and did not qualify as a call to hatred the same cartoons which originated in denmark have resulted in violence around the world since their publication in two thousand and five. those behind the protest say that they're doing this to gauge the willingness of the islamic community to out here to german law you've got what's your view of all this is not provoke ation on the contrary we are testing the propensity of extremist muslims who have built a base here in berlin to respect our laws. a spokesperson for germany's islamic community has said they won't be baited into taking action to sphere the point out we're going to ignore these people and we will not organize

i'll tell you more on the story a bit later in the program but first gold is off its record highs it reached this monday but it could double in price that's according to a metals expert. you have massive amounts of printing right now that's been sort of very carefully and very well concealed to plug up deficits what people are seeking about any talk with the four thousand five hundred dollar notes argument is when the velocity of money does kick up basically what happens everyone scared take the money of the banks take the money out of different things that investment and keep the money cache know where it is and there it is then he's a basically be the turnover money goes down now once people sort of see there's lots and lots of printing money into the system to get money to move around in the build new businesses and everything else was that starts to kick in and the velocity of money kicks up but they've printed so much money in the past three years that when the velocity does kick in the fact it has is much bigger because that much more money out in the system and that's where you can get the gold price
12:24 pm
to go around but as i understand gold prices have been mostly driven all only by the belief that base is as safe as it is about the ultimate bubble to say that it's a bubble it's pretty hard because if you talk about the total amount of assets invested in gold will believe it's ministry very very few people actually have gold in their investment portfolios very people very few people have gold is there gold mining shares or gold related stocks in their overall investment portfolio and so that this doesn't smell like a bubble a bubble is when people take out margin one hundred to one to buy an internet stock that they don't know anything about that has no revenue no earning and who knows who's been around for two months it's not a bubble if you're buying for cash gold not on margin and sticking it in your seat that's not a bubble and that's more that represents more of the gold market today than any sort of public stocks have past. let's now quickly run through the markets and we'll start with moscow and dead with
