movement. set up from the start. of the. task.
12:31 pm
for many countries in the leader's next mexican president felipe. what he sees as his nation's role in a changing world. so for since it was it was going to president thank you for joining us let's talk about relations between the regions countries and the u.s. they're actually quite tense with some of the state how would you describe relations between washington d.c. and mexico city. on one of the songs as you said there are a lot of holes in our relationship with. time as with us in general we have a good working relationship that's true both of my personal interactions with president obama and the relations between our administrations the u.s. and mexico have a long history of ups and downs and i still the case today more than one hundred years ago one mexican at president made
12:32 pm
a famous statement poor mexico so far from god. however i think our proximity to the u.s. has its benefits as well as disadvantages it's great to have the world's biggest market just around the corner. with a lot of billions of dollars worth of mexican workers it is crucial for our economy for the problems we share immigration and illegal drugs it's a challenge to be a neighbor to the world's largest illegal drugs consumer market with all the rest of the world trying to smuggle drugs into the u.s. so cross our border as if this complicates our relations but i think we have managed to establish a constructive dialogue at least that's true of my government in order to fight these problems together. at home to this program. what i had to see and the u.s. has had to elect a new president do you think anything is likely to change after the election a sexy a miss. nothing changes before the election and there is always the temptation
12:33 pm
to join one's pre-election campaign and the competing parties often undertake fairly unfriendly steps to secure support from various target groups there were such incidents in the past i can tell you about whenever some farming etc in the us was losing a competition to mexican producers its representatives would seek political leverage to across the mexican economy fortunately no such move this time and hopefully we won't have to face anything like this in the future but i wouldn't want to intrude into the decision making. american people very much hope and mature and responsible relations of the us of mexico into right now be maintaining after the elections. he said you have great economic ties but is there anything that can be done to reduce economic dependence on the. same yes we
12:34 pm
are undertaking steps to achieve that so through an active participation in. our efforts to set up a civic alliance with other latin american countries. as well as off a future membership in the transpacific partnership demonstrate our desire to diversify only because of course we realize that the u.s. will remain a key partner africa future the geographic location we want to expand our trade. is new mexico in the world. in mexico other words i would very much like mexican goods to go on sale in russia and russia. to come to mexico but we want more tourists to visit us this strategy of diversification that we have in force recently would make our economy less dependent on the u.s. we are working on it but it's not easy because our economies are obviously heavily intertwined. due to the very obvious reasons. why not.
12:35 pm
another drug trafficking what's your assessment of the progress in the war on drugs and what do you make of the popular statement the drug trafficking would shrink if there was a decline in demand in the u.s. so. i mean ok let's start from the very beginning of a practical i don't like the term war because ultimately it's not about the drugs but i would like mexico to become a rule of law state government where people feel safe my priority is not to eradicate drugs but to create a secure environment for people and their families. and anyone incased in drug trafficking attack our people. because what they do is illegal i'll tell you what our track is here because there was a time when our law enforcement agencies were degrading shrinking will they became fragile and laced with corruption to put it simply many of them were failing the perform their duties and if there was some cases they were taken over by the
12:36 pm
criminals and of the list i know that in many countries organized crime is growing stronger in countries police and agencies and this trend prevails. i think our main achievement is that we've managed to curb this trend because now we're reforming the police force as part of the project to reinforce our government by policemen have to be honest well trained and have access to state of the art equipment that will make. up in this respect i believe we're doing very well. more problem related to violence gang clashes some of what's happening in mexico is typical for all latin american countries not only do criminal gangs smuggle drugs into the us they also attempt to distribute them across latin america. this leads to. in spite of this as last year source significant decline in violence and the number of murders but we're working on it still there is a long way to go. for the second part of your question yes you know the main reason
12:37 pm
for our drug trafficking problem or place is that the u.s. is the main drug consumer in the world. far to mexico and many other countries if the demand for drugs were to decrease in the u.s. on what we would indeed have problems to deal with look at our market. and how what is going through economic crisis to mostly true. i'm not an american plane the global economic crisis. why i see growth will take place over the next decade mostly in the region by this much of which is located in latin america the big picture is that our economies are growing and i mean new jobs are being created this is saying to mexico our economy is growing jobs are being created because many mexican products can now compete in the global market and the role of growing economies is to give impetus to global economic growth to use an
12:38 pm
analogy of previously not working only growth was driven by an engine of growth but that would be the european the us economy because what happens now is that the us engine is still in order and while the european one is not only actually pulling the other way. the center of growth is moving to asia pacific and latin america that will play an important role in all of growth that us. how do you explain that in america significant economic growth when. there are different reasons sort of on the one hand and it's especially the case in south america the reason is that these countries produce primary commodities including food they're mad because global food prices grow which happens for various reasons but to a large extent of human due to the growing demand in china and india a lot of the economies of produce food such as argentina and brazil grow as well that's one reason for this is not the case of mexico you know what us here in mexico we're seeing manufacturing growth become more competitive and we have
12:39 pm
invested significant ones in infrastructure and higher education one hundred thirteen thousand engineers graduate from the mexican universities annually that's more in germany canada or u.k. this is given our economy a sizable competitive advantage we offer a lot of benefits to investors because we have lower taxes so now car and cell phone manufacturers can buy the parts they need from any country in the. world which brings their business to a higher competitive level mexico's economic growth and even by manufacturing which is growing much faster the natural resources development on the whole i believe that latin american economies succeeded in finding a balance between i think of maintaining economic stability and ensuring proper distribution of government funds in mexico you can talk of low inflation and almost zero budget deficit investments in the development of money factoring in a range of other factors. create new jobs and drive economic growth in the economy
12:40 pm
. and also. about health care and education given what it was greatest challenges mexican society is facing our existence. the issue of public safety still withstanding my presidential spies at the end of the year and i think the next president needs to continue with the project of building new institutions because we mexicans rest when we have been only police force in place when we put an end to any corruption including a corrupt. and judicial agencies and this sense this is a major challenge yes on the other hand. no major economy we need to run reform and. social areas because i believe our major challenges is raising quality of education reform us. when. president takes office what
12:41 pm
policy will he. support that's a good question for the new president and despite our ideological differences i wish him well possible success because mexico needs all of the stages it goes through to be successful you need the president to enjoy possible support he needs to tackle important national issues like the overall i do know expects any major changes in the economy and i'm hopeful that he will continue with modernization and on the reforms driving mexico to economic competitiveness of security issues he said himself that he would do all he can to our great governmental institutions point zero noise crime in social services we have clearly to find the outlines of our health care education and support of the low income population programs and i believe this will continue roughly along the same lines and certainly nuances typical for mexico. morning there was one thing and then last question where will
12:42 pm
we see you in the future will you be pursuing your political career father. as for your second question i learned from my father when i was very young that politics is about serving the people for the common good as a citizen of my country i will do my best in order to achieve this goal in this respect i will continue working for the good of mexico on the other hand mexican law does not allow the president to be reelected whether six twelve or eighteen years after his term has ended and so i'm at the end of my part of my career in politics because your president is the highest position one can ever hope to hold but i am fifty years old now and i have every intention to live another fifty years or so in good health i hope that science will find a way to increase longevity pick up the long and eventful life that i intend to lead us all be connected with my calling to serve my people but although so far i
12:43 pm
couldn't tell you what it is exactly i'll be doing it all in the future my expenses like working for the economy teaching writing reading all know a lot of books i've yet to read that's answer pending time with my children they were little when the little brain says you know they are two notches in and i would like to be there for them sort of use but that's how i see my future so when i go back to politics eventually i might open a law firm dealing with infrastructure projects i'm not sure how to provide a mentor like i.b.m. you rank you for the interview thank you. for your. keep that is. the question right now with the. council isn't without bankruptcy is likely was.

well the latest book is monday thank you for joining me on the top story is. jumping for joy serena williams claims a fourth u.s. open title after coming back from much point down to clinch a thrilling victory over world number one victoria azarenka. while on a roll world number one rory mcilroy secures his second gold title in as many weeks following a two stroke victory in indiana tiger is back at number two. last farewell and flying to a million people lined the streets of london to cheer on a parade of britain's olympic and paralympic heroes the close of twenty twelve. but first to tennis and serena williams has won the us open for a fourth time after beating world number one victoria azarenka in a three sets to end a magnificent summer williams won wimbledon as two gold medals before winning the last grand slam of the season and the american looked to be cruising on to take the

first set six to the by russian. however as are a go for about brilliantly winning the next set six two to level the lurch. and then she went on to lead five three in the third and so on for the match but we fought back in response fashion reeling off four games in a row to win seven five in two hours and eighteen minutes to victory is her fifteenth grand slam singles title after winning her first u.s. open thirteen years ago the biggest span of success by a female singles player in the open era and the thirty year old says this victory is one of her sweetest. definitely enjoyed winning tonight i would be lying if i wanted to be you know this long but it's noble if nothing is more exciting than winning such a tight marriage and a grand slam final at this moment you know i have no regrets i felt like i

gave it all you know. i could've gotten my way probably yes you know but it didn't. really really hurt so you know those emotions can come out and. you feel so but it's time to. really realize what happened today you know as a group emerges just it was close but not for me. to go with now rory mcilroy has won the b.m.w. championship in indiana by two shots to claim his second title in two weeks the northern irishman started the day one shot behind joint leaders phil mickelson and v.j. saying and those two were looking good early on mickelson burying this forty thousand foot chip for birdie while saying it was also showing good form and sank his first birdie of the day here on the fifth. but it was mcelroy who took the outright lead on the tenth and he went on to call it a five on the pa sixty seven strike victory ahead of michelson and lee westwood
12:49 pm
that extends his lead at the top of the world rankings while form a wealth of one tiger woods is back up to second after finishing joint force that could stick but it's michael roy who goes into the tour championship in a fortnight as the favorite to pocket the ten million dollar jackpot. you know i just feel like you know it's all sort of clicked into place and i have you know find some confidence and. i just you know i just keep going with it you know it's i don't really have an explanation for it but yeah i mean this is the best golf i've ever played for sure to win three out of my last four starts you know one of those being a major there's been playoff events. you know you know as i said i agree a little wrong with them and i'm staying with golf and frenchman alexander has won the third annual russian challenge cup by a single shelf from overnight media and some three michael reports from the saliva course. going into the final fourth day of the russian challenge cup it looked as if. he was well on his way to claiming his fifth european challenge
12:50 pm
tore title this season what with the italian topping the leaderboard on both day two and day three of the event however combination of rather miserable weather conditions and final day pressure ensured for a dramatic end to these two point lead over a pack of four players tied in second place meant playing it safe was not an option for st florian programs and england's chris lloyd blew their chance to overhaul the italian really on each hitting a bogey in double bogey but denmark's morton or madsen and francis an exam kept the pressure on going into the back nine holes it was here what a d.d. lost his cool hitting three bogeys and allowing collect mats and surprisingly to take advantage that he needed to cancel out. but another bowyer on the eighteenth meant that alexander kaleri had won the cup but only after he managed to save a par on the final hole i felt the whole day i think i played.
12:51 pm
better than i scored i played very well but i didn't score that well. i didn't look for the lead doubled so i didn't know. my goal was to finish ten and. i just hit a bad shot on fifteen and it cost me double bogey. i just played well i don't know if there is a tournament next. question because my grandparents are from russia i've never met them but they're from russia and like the press especially the question. mark to who also needed to do you need to slip up to win said that in doing that he failed to notice the frenchman but was content with his overall performance. i saw i was in the bushes big time and he made a very good par so you know i had softer him i wish i could have. so many shots out there. everybody feels the same very happy to you know second place there was like
12:52 pm
thirty of the ranking so it does help me a lot and you know gives you confidence for next week which is like our biggest week and you know it's all you can do is give it your best and you know finish second best i could do. so the third annual russian challenge cup has come to an end in a final frantic day where the italian and madsen could also have taken the top spot but of course in the end the frenchman prevailed and is taking home the prize unfortunately for the third year running no russian could make the cut but then again it is a common consensus that russia still is in a development stage and hopefully in the coming years should this tournament continue to grow as it has in the past we will be seeing more russians trying to break the mold and trying to take something home from this fantastic tournament michael. moscow region now into football and russia looking to make it back to back when this is about those men prepare for their second group world cup qualifier in israel while reigning world and european champions spain is taking nothing for

a virus having to england's long injury list to fill the gaps manager roy hodgson has called up seventeen year old liverpool will go right here sterling has made just five first team appearances for the reds as well as bringing in even more young blood we were the limit when we lost john terry and i should recall but you know the fia walcott had to go home and just to be monitored although we think he's going to be ok it was a good opportunity i thought to invite some younger players to come in and be a part of the atmosphere was do a thing we have enough players to deal with to go and we have more than the eleven certainly that we need. but in the meantime here in moscow the sauna diarra has been racially unveiled as a new player the twenty seven year old midfielder arrives a railway trade off a low key transfer window for the rich that astound itself however sitting side have also signed strike and making it a very nice profit from fellow russian side car as that general director says

they're targeting nothing less than the europa league trophy this season and the aura he get to help the little. i'm really motivated and coming to russia is a new challenge for mean of course it will take me some time to adapt to a new place but i hope to find my rhythm as soon as possible and they'll try to make the best use of all the experience i've gained while playing in europe i'm tell partner she win a title this season. finally at around one million people have lined the streets of london to cheer on great britain's olympic and paralympic heroes after the curtain fell on the twenty twelve games the world's fastest long distance runner mo farah headlined the festivities with the likes of tennis star andy murray and his bradley wiggins away at the u.s. open and tour of britain respectively in both games have been deemed a major success with record audiences attending and watching the paralympic event russia finished force behind britain in the olympics with
