breaking news here on r.g.p. a libya's interior minister says america's ambassador to libya is the man who was killed when a mob strongly u.s. consulate in benghazi. bailout the go ahead for the german court to give the green light to the permanent euro zone rescue fund. but paves the way you put into your joy in the five hundred billion euro facility there are conditions attached all the latest in the german capital coming up shortly. and a one and a half million people in catalunya take the streets to demand independence from spain as taxes and cuts the pileup in the country's wealthiest region.
6:01 am
he was an r g ally from moscow good to have you with us first libya's interior ministry says the u.s. ambassador in libya has been killed in an attack on the consulate in the city of benghazi in the american diplomat missions in libya and egypt were raided by angry mobs over us made film set to insult the prophet muhammad let's get now we'll get the latest from our middle east correspondent policy or have the latest on that story a little bit later. right now oppose revolutionary libya and egypt could only see a further rise in extremism and instability says not need an assistant professor of middle eastern islamic politics at the university of denver. people like this i think are looking for a reaction they deeply are trying to promote
6:02 am
a clash of civilizations and think americans are going to have to get used to the fact that as societies open up you're going to see protests such as these bike stream missed elements it's not just liberals and democrats and seculars secularists who have the right to protest but so do you know members of extreme fundamentalist groups they also have that right the challenge here is to keep them within the framework of the lost and to prevent them from creating instability and overturning and overthrowing egypt's democratic transition there is fear that we're going to see copycat sort of demonstrations. throughout the arab and muslim world and and let's hope that cooler pressure cooler heads can prevail. let's get the lay does not from artie's a middle east correspondent a policy a who's live with us they want to see you they know what more do you know about the storming of the consulates. well we have just received a statement from the libyan interior ministry in which it confirms that the
6:03 am
american ambassador to libya was killed on chews day night during an attack on the american consulate in benghazi and we haven't yet had any confirmation nor denial from the u.s. state department but according to a high ranking libyan officials the u.s. consulate came under rocket attack at the same time a mob physically attacked the consulate the statement says that the ambassador died from suffocation and in addition there were at least three other high ranking diplomats who were also killed in that attack before people were able to be taken to safety now there is very little at this stage known about the massacre other than that he was the u.s. special envoy to libya and to the libyan opposition during the revolution in that country so if in fact he has died what this does mean is that the libyan officials have killed their own counterpart now it comes just hours after the american embassy in cairo was attacked what this is showing is growing unrest in the region
6:04 am
in these post revolution countries that are backed by the united states we're also hearing in terms of the attack that the u.s. consulate in benghazi was sit fire to at the same time a lot of the building apparently has been burned down that there was a lot of gunfire i witness is reporting that they heard attackers firing with guns and that the libyan security forces responded in kind and we're also hearing reports that at least half a dozen libyan security forces who are hurt and were taken away from the scene in ambulances now paula why such a violent reaction to this film. it is increasingly clear that we are seeing growing unrest and violence in these post revolution countries what we know as i mentioned earlier is that this attack in benghazi came just hours after at least two thousand protesters stormed the american embassy in cairo now that attack was really a show of indignation by protesters to an american film that was broadcast to
6:05 am
coincide with the anniversary of nine eleven now that film was produced by an american based group it also involved a christian pastor by the name of terry jones and you might get familiar to our viewers because he was involved in the koran burning scandal there triggered mess cayle protests in afghanistan as i mentioned this was to coincide with the anniversary of september eleventh and terry jones said that the portrayal of the prophet muhammad was meant to be satirical but certainly protestors have found that portrayal of the prophet muhammad dismissive they have found it very very negative and as a result they have removed the american flag they were casted with a black flag on the air and then we can consulate and they wrote there that there is no god but allah so we're witnessing here growing indignation growing frustration not only at the portrayal of what they say is a very upsetting way to present prophet muhammad but also growing unrest in these
6:06 am
countries right or care there was a middle east correspondent policy a war of course be following that story very closely thank you very much. now egypt's new president has angered some hard liners why not do yet speaking out about the film mohamed morsi though has been working to establish trade ties with washington to secure funds to help revive the country's economy but as r.t. is gammage again experience as such support comes at a high political price. egyptian needs money and the us needs to preserve its leverage in egypt so how do you make those who needs meet without going back to mubarak style leadership which egyptians rose up to the polls earlier in september the egyptian president accepted a delegation of u.s. officials as well as the c.e.o.'s of some fifty u.s. corporations looking to do business in egypt many of whom already have billions invested in the country mohammed morsi told them what they wanted to hear that
6:07 am
their investments were secure that he would help the companies expend in egypt by reducing red tape and last but not least that he would respect the peace treaty where this will as he's pretty sesar had in other words he set the hopes high with american officials and businessman the president is continuing the same old policy of mubarak but with the distance and some with and some symbolism the he enjoys popular support and he can do a lot of things that would serve the americans with cultural blessing and religious missing tall president morsi scored another point with the u.s. when during a visit to iran he slammed the regime and called for an intervention in syria regimes about one point park six billion u.s. dollars in aid and on top of that back in august they received two billion dollars who qatar and of course the u.s. could talk to the leading hawks on syria so when you receiving got much money from the u.s. and the charts hardly surprising go to
6:08 am
a summit and criticize syria it's not a big surprise really u.s. aid always comes with strings attached for instance much of the military aid money to egypt has been spent in the u.s. and weapons and services contracts with u.s. companies as for the rest is essentially a barrage. of who are maintaining the treaty with israel washington is now negotiating another package of perks for egypt one billion dollars in debt relief and around. hundred million dollars to improve the business climate in egypt but for the u.s. aid means business as the deputy director of one of the american aid distribution agencies said for every dollar they mess they get eight dollars back in u.s. exports but u.s. policy on egypt apparently stays the same it could be phrased nothing personal just business the question for egyptians remains whether their new leader will ever pursue independent policies or whether he'll end up doing washington's bidding as
6:09 am
he's pretty frustrated in washington i'm going to check on. their debate is at the forefront for voters in the netherlands as they go to the polls to choose where the country has next the center right and center left party a neck to neck both are expected to stick to deficit reduction policies but people in the country are tired of austerity with your aseptic parties ready for last minute gains let's all talk to clamor from the irresolute university in rotterdam who's going to shed some light on this story very good to have you with us this i'm now in spring of the conservative government of the netherlands collapse to e.u. budget cuts how many voters do you think can be swayed by the euro sceptic parties . this is. the center of the. city. where. it looks like one of them.
6:10 am
is rolling. with all of the solutions going to really. work to do everything we can. for the groups that are not growth of the far left and the hard right parties which have been in the third and fourth place in opinion polls strongly against euro zone austerity and bailouts how serious is the situation that parties with such opposing views agree on this you. yeah you see there is going to be violence but the dutch are not clear on where you are to go. it's show host of almost close to a majority still a minor still minority but is closer to becoming europe you know the dutch are becoming very skeptical of that and see that if you are the you can't speak for the troops. i don't hold that the species who were there there is a small part of the to democrats who are very much in favor and would like to.
6:11 am
state that they are going to lose in this election the majority of sort of really heading for a more you really see you are skeptical point if you now even the true pro your own party's leading in the polls do not entirely agree with everything brussels ones now the socialist one more time for reform that there are liberals don't want to funnel more cash to greece what's your reaction do you expect the netherlands to take with a new parliament. he ends the day only who do what america tells him to do. so far at least that the dutch can be always supportive of the germans and would like to be close alliance of the german so when it comes down to hades they will support that but two words the our own people these political leaders have to do with another cong and they have to show them that they really think the floor and
6:12 am
he gives are still of the dutch that no one is going to agree that they won't take you home or something to be a very important point or about the still of the current prime minister of the. liberal party. and it's very important that they don't give over more so but everyone else says it is inevitable the dutch the second for some sort of the like the germans are having. silver they have to do. it's election time. where it's all kinds of promises and the election is over you will see the religion the secede and they will do with her they can do to rescue the euro and to support your hands now let's stick with the dutch taxpayers here they angry by continued belt tightening damaging their wealth pay and pensions while billions are going to the struggling here is our members are people going to continue taking that. you have. again
6:13 am
a great division here as more and more people are really getting fed up with your third worst measures imposed barring what they see as your. home. is the socialist party. and she months ago was about to become the biggest party in the polls now it's losing a lot from the social democrats but the socialist party is really intent on saving for the trail first and then the liberals will break it down so if you have democrats who are maybe becoming the largest part of the night you will see they are also in favor of a rescue even for states so he dodged a very furious reduces go it will be very exciting tonight hollis comes out are three favorable people defending developer states or are the favorite people who are interested in smaller government less well for more free enterprise and also
6:14 am
argue in favor of people who are supporting your own people in favor of people who are skeptical of your it's hard to predict where this country will end up but tonight it will be a very big boy who i would call not only for this country but i think in a way also a signal to the rest of europe where we're headed more does europe overstated or meeting our stated or less of it will be very very intense most likely marry you very some interesting questions they will leave it right there thank you very much for joining us here on artie's that's our job claim from the u.s. as university in rotterdam thank you. but the euro zone's merry go round of bailouts can continue germany's federal court rules a new five hundred billion euro rescue fund is legal and berlin can join the arizona's powerhouse is crucial for funneling cash to failing economies and containing the crisis peeta all of reports. by rejecting
6:15 am
a complaint against the european state billets the mechanism a five hundred billion euro part what they've said is that they can be signed into german law now they say that comes with some conditions that the maximum amount will be able to be put in is one hundred and ninety billion now if they want to put in any more than that they're going to have to go to the they can have to go to the bundestag and it's going to have to be a vote on it also both houses of the german parliament are going to have to be kept up to date with exactly what that money is being spent on it's a political success for. merkel she backed the system wholeheartedly and of course she's got an election coming up next year she couldn't afford any major embarrassment however the fact that it has to go through a vote in the bundestag and at the amount has been kept could mean that she faces a few internal problems inside the journal put german parliament if they want to
6:16 am
try and increase the amount of money germany is going to give to those failing economies in the rest of the eurozone the five hundred billion euro ports that's not infinite it's got it's not a bottomless pit of cash what happens if other countries for by the way at the moment we're seeing greece needing that bailout money desperately what happens if all of that bailout money or too much of that bailout money spent on greece and say countries like italy or spain slip further into the economic mire does that mean that there's simply no cash left but them in terms of greece i say they will be quite happy to hated this is gone through but there's a huge meeting taking place in the country on wednesday now that is a meeting between the heads of the coalition the ruling coalition government there they have problems they can't decide how they're going to make the huge over ten billion worth of budget cuts they can decide how they're going to do that without hurting the greek people too much so it could end up if they can't make those cuts
6:17 am
all of this decision in germany might have fallen by the wayside because the bottom line is if greece doesn't cut they don't get bailout money whatever the german constitutional court ruled. well in spanish got a loony a one and a half a million people took to the streets of the regional capital bus along now to call for independence then already attracted a record turnout as not only new struggles and damages economic policies authorities in spain's wealthiest region are demanding a five billion euro bailout from central government saying that's how much a bus along the has been forced to pay let's not talk to carlos at del close who is a sociologist at. university good to see they mr del close now couple you know marches for independence every year but this time a record number of people turned out how bad is the economic situation at the moment. well the economic situation in. like in the rest of spain is catastrophic and getting worse. i think the difference between this year and last
6:18 am
year particularly is that now the butt of the of a lot is in the government and it's there a lot more aggressively centralist and and it's and there are a lot more aggressive against sort of the autonomous rights that regions that feel themselves as nations like alone you know are the basque region they're a lot more aggressive in posing that sort of identity on them the problem is that it that the party that's currently ruling in. you know union is actually the party that also mobilized yesterday their bases to join the other independent this is actually the party that was sort of the pioneer in a lot of the austerity measures that. is doing right now at the level of spain not do you think madrid will give bus alone to what it once see in terms of cash and text cuts. well i think that's that's hard to say right now i think certainly there
6:19 am
is a certain degree of negotiating power that that the president of the linney has just gained. and he's going to have a meeting on the twentieth of october with a way to flesh these things out but it doesn't seem likely that he is going to take any initiative in this matter at all that given the turnout of these marches do you think that's going to be more calls for independence that could spread to the rest of europe. well this could this could certainly. serve as an impulse to to more sort of secessionist secessionist i guess sensibilities the question is in a lot of in a lot of respects what is what does independence look like right now in the sense that a break between couple lumia and spain for instance right now also means an exit from the european union and it would then have to renegotiate its entry with with
6:20 am
the european union and it's a similar case in the case of the basque region or other stateless nations i guess the main question is i mean what catalunya be better off on its own. well i don't know really if it would be better off on its own i mean it's really hard to say because there are so many different factors that come into play it's really hard to kind of play this hypothetical a lot there are a lot of studies that say that they could be self-sufficient but there's also a lot of studies that would say that there would be strong boycotts or that kind of when it would look like a tax haven i mean it's very difficult to say the people that were out in the streets yesterday calling for independence from spain were to a large extent extremely diverse in terms of what their outlook is on economic policy on democratic mechanisms on a number of issues and it's really kind of hard to say who would have the gemini
6:21 am
there it's a very very very wide palette and and yeah it's certainly it doesn't it doesn't look very certain about it that way. right godless adult plus thank you very much for your thoughts on this issue so she ought to just. write university for talking to us on that. thanks for having me right now the death toll in a plane crash in russia's far east has risen to at least ten after a four year old girl who survived a you peg died before she could be taken to hospital fourteen people including two crew members were on board at the time of the crash four passengers survived but are said to be in a critical condition the antonov twenty eight on a commercial flight in russia's far east made a force lending ten kilometers from the destination airport no cause has yet been established for the accident thursday has been declared a day of mourning in the region of our comes across. a brutal look at other

pro-us that forces on sunday a car bomb attack in the city killed at least thirty people. the u.s. and the u.n. security council are quick to condemn some terror attacks but well shot of denouncing others in countries like syria says russia's foreign minister sergey lavrov in the statement he called such an approach deplorable. so far the u.n. has strongly condemned any terror attacks then our colleagues failed to condemn the recent terror attack on syrian security forces in damascus saying that it wasn't really a terror attack and it targeted those who fought against the rebels that explanation frankly shocked me then we suggested condemning not just the attacks in aleppo but those across iraq as well where more than one hundred people died but our partners refrain from any strong statements which makes me think that their position must have changed dramatically and some western countries must deem terror attacks are

acceptable when it suits them i wish they'd refute the suspicion but for now i have to keep it. well let's get the latest from the business does the marina what do you have for us this hour well we are of course monitor in the markets especially after germany's constitutional court of course cleared the way for borland to ratify the euro zone's permanent rescue fund and after that announcement was made we saw the markets go straight up if we can take a look at the european ones for now or see that there was saw in the movie a difference right now the focus is going the board of a percent of germany's dax is up almost one percent in the black there moving on to russia here slightly a different picture as investors are not quite sure they're still they'll be conditions imposed whether it's the search or so they want to see what happens with that was the idea is that over half a percent and the mindset is setting around half around a quarter of a percent out current then you are still strengthening and against the dollar in

fact this at its highest level in about five months when it comes to the ruble. it's gaining against both major currencies now the focus on the russian energy giant gas problem which is looking to increase its stake in german gas straight away and increase its presence in five and this of course will definitely raise some eyebrows in europe as. it's going to look and then gas. in europe and it accuses the company of a basically diversifying its preventing the diversification of supply and impose an unfair weiss's on its costumers across the region gazprom has already given this town's to several of its european customers and was in the others as well after the european commission got involved president vladimir putin signed a decree. they controlled for arms from giving information to foreigners forces without permission from moscow what does this mean it means that all negotiations

will now have to go through the government russia provides a quarter of europe's gas imports in many countries rely almost entirely on the country for their gas things but. there's also an important call someone that wants to maintain that relationship. we would like to solve the questions that remain obscure between us and the european commission as soon as possible so that we can work together come late hopefully. we can also do our best to avoid any further complications with our european partners at the same time look for opportunities to sell its products. and of course we want to turn this story as it develops and bring you all the latest thank you marina for that update we'll see you in a little while. we talk to the head of the world's a big meanie and producer before that i'll bring you the headlines.
