run its life pm here in moscow you're live with us on our t.v. thanks for having us as your viewing pleasure first news just in there's been an attack on the u.s. embassy in beirut according to i'm very find reports this comes after president obama confirmed that his m bassa to libya and three other officials were killed in the city of benghazi christopher stevens was at the u.s. consulate are they when an armed mob stormed the compound in protest at an american film which has been described as an insult to islam artie's a middle east correspondent a policy has more. i would use those who were there said that they heard gunfire coming from both libyan security forces and the attackers themselves and we have seen some reports at least suggesting that some half a dozen libyan security forces were taken from the scene in ambulances the american ambassador to this consulate in benghazi was the american envoy to the libyan

opposition during the revolution in their country which is certainly does suggest that you now have a situation where the rebels are killing their own counterpart what we are witnessing more and more is increasing and raced and violence in these post of revolution countries that are receiving backing by the united states this storming and essentially the murder of the ambassador of the american consulate in benghazi comes just hours after a mass demonstration of at least some two thousand protesters in the egyptian capital city of cairo what happened there is that an american film that was produced by an american based company was released that many say was insulting to the prophet muhammad now some of our viewers will be familiar with the name terry jones he was the christian pastor that was involved in the koran burning that saw widespread demonstrations across afghanistan and he too was involved in this
9:03 am
full that he says was a satirical look at prophet mohammed but certainly hasn't been received like that at least not in egypt now what we had in egypt was indignation people taking to the streets they pulled down the flag of the american embassy there were replaced it with a black flag that sit there is no god but we know that and that egypt police are now under stand by for the protests today wednesday in the capital city of cairo police are gathering as we speak at the same time we're also hearing of demonstrations being planned in tunis the capital city of tunisia was both of these will be anti american demonstrations again showing just how one is how this region is. only in these post revolution climate that has seen these countries in a and in an instability largely because of what has happened in a lot of confusion over the role of wisdom powers in the so-called revolutionary process a team of u.s. anti terror marines is reportedly heading to libya to beef up security for

diplomats let's get some reaction and analysis now from the independent news editor james a carpet good to have you with us on our team james now the killed you with the best that was washington's envoy to the libyan rebels joining last year's revolution went to washington backed will his death cause a breakup between two allies or while the u.s. stands remain unchanged you think. well i think that the u.s. is going to have to maintain their relations with the country in order to save face because what this really has to represent obviously we can't read too much into this situation at the moment because as you say it's sweeping across north africa right now but in the libyan context pacifically we have to see this is a case of needles chickens coming home to roost after they were so complicit in the bombing the carpet bombing of that country last year and i think we have to see that at the very least this type of incident the storming of the embassy the killing of a diplomatic official just simply could not could not have been happened it would
9:05 am
have been under unthinkable under the gadhafi government so in order to maintain face i don't think that we're going to see a falling out with the libyan government and the national transitional council which was which which turned into the government in elections i think we're going to see that the u.s. is going to maintain all all diplomatic relations but is going to have beefed up security which i think is the predicted result of all of this now living on the militias ases huge stockpiles of weapons during the revolution and some of the guns were reported turned on the u.s. consulate last night why haven't the militias been disarmed yet. well the question who is it who would be able to design them i think that there is a false idea that's been floated in the american media certainly that libya is a done deal and that was all wrapped up and all of the militias have been disarmed and everyone's been disbanded and gone back home but people have been actually keeping an eye on libya since the american media turned its gaze away from that country have found that it gives continued to to have tensions and militias or
9:06 am
basically determining what's happening in various parts of the country the fact that there is a government in tripoli it is kind of a government in name only in many respects and doesn't necessarily have control over the entire country and it's really just underlines that point in the fact that the destabilization that occurred last year was not ultimately aimed at the freedom of the libyan people generally and making it a better place as unfortunately the american public has been told that was all about it was it was more of a destabilization and this is really i think something that we can expect more of in libya and in fact across north africa as it starts to flare up right now let's talk about this controversial film egypt's the muslim brotherhood has called for a nationwide protest against the film could then resprayed across the country and the entire muslim world. i think it does have that effect and we are starting to get reports now out of out of tunisia and other places that these types of protests could be ramping up there as well so i think this could turn into
9:07 am
a major international incident and we'll have to see what type of reaction would even be possible in in this case when it's not clear even if the u.s. wanted to retaliate for this type of action against their embassies it's not exactly clear how they would be able to do that or who particularly they would be targeting unless it was a full scale invasion of countries which of course is not on the table so so it's a it's a very politically thorny situation and i think we are likely to see more of that in the in the next few days as this continues to spread across the region tony it is not how these events affect that terror and tensions in libya and especially in egypt the way you know christians make up around ten percent of the population. well this is this is the ongoing concern not only in egypt but of course in syria as well where it were again the government there is being destabilized even as we speak in the christian minority is against the threatened with persecution should and should be the sunni's come to power in where the she has come to power in syria
9:08 am
it's it's a difficult situation because in all of these cases there are there is this bubbling tension that has been contained for decades under the rule of someone like you get off the witches and to to back up their regimes their governments but simply to say that this has been opened up with all of these these arab springs which i think were projected on problematically as a win for the united states and for freedom and for nato but i think we're starting to see what this is really turning into and it's not clear at this point where it's going or how it's going to play out but it's going to have some larger ramifications and as i say i think this is going to be a trend that will see flaring up across the region in the coming days well you see how the president of america is going to react to this is another thing you know they going to the polls americans are going to the polls in november how do you think the voters are going to take this on do you think the presidential vote will have you know these events will have some kind of bearing on who wins and who will be commander in chief of america in the next couple of months. in terms of the
9:09 am
events that have played out already today i don't think it's going to have a deciding effect one way or the other it didn't really depends what comes in the in the next few days and weeks if this continues to to play out we've already seen romney try to score some points against obama for not condemning this strongly enough but again i think most people see that for political rhetoric so i don't think that's going to be changing many people's minds and probably will not have much of a sway on the on the outcome of the election but again it depends on how this plays out and what continues to happen from this point what do you think is going to be the reaction from washington. i think at this point there's not much that they can do as i say i don't think that there's any way that they can specifically retaliate against it against the people involved here i think it's going to have to take place at a more diplomatic level and they're going to obviously send more security to their embassies in the region but it's not really clear exactly what they can do other than work with the security forces in cairo in tripoli and in other places across
9:10 am
the region and at this point i'm not sure there is much more they can do other than than simply beef up security james call that a lie from japan thank you very much for your time always good to hear from you there was james kopp at independent is editor speaking to us here on r.t. . right away also closely following this developing story on our website at our t.v. dot com we explore further the attacks on u.s. missions in benghazi and kyra as unrest in tuples revolution in countries continues to unfold the timeline of the protests is also available for you online. germans federal court has backed a motion considered crucial for containing the debt crisis that's been raging in

europe for almost three years now it approves a new five hundred billion euro bailout fund for struggling euro zone countries however the ruling comes with several conditions as artie's people out of all reports from berlin. the maximum amount that germany will be able to put in is one hundred and ninety billion if they want to put in any more than that they can have to go to the bundestag and it's going to have to be a vote on it also both houses of the german parliament are going to have to be kept up to date with exactly what that money is being spent on it's a political success for. merkel she backed this system full heartedly and of course she's got an election coming up next year she couldn't afford any major embarrassment however the fact that it has to go through a vote in the bundestag and at the amount has been kept could mean that she faces a few internal problems inside the journal put german parliament if they want to try and increase the amount of money germany is going to give to those failing
9:12 am
economies in the rest of the eurozone the five hundred billion euro ports that's not infinite it's got it's not a bottomless pit of cash what happens if other countries for by the way at the moment we're seeing greece needing that bailout money desperately what happens if all of that bailout money or too much of that bailout money spent on greece and say countries like italy or spain slip further into the economic mire does that mean that there's simply no cash left for them in terms of greece though i say they will be quite happy to hear that this is gone through but there's a huge meeting taking place in the country on wednesday now that is a meeting between the heads of the coalition the ruling coalition government there they have problems they can't decide how they're going to make the huge over ten billion worth of budget cuts they can decide how they're going to do that without hurting the greek people too much so it could end up if they can't make those cuts all of this decision in germany might have fallen by the wayside because the bottom
9:13 am
line is if greece doesn't cut they don't get bailout money whatever the german constitutional court ruled. political risk consultant john hulsman believes a court ruling in germany will provide a short live boost and will not fix a crisis longer term. the germans are storing up hostages to fortune they're going to need more than the five hundred billion euro because italy and spain to some extent certainly spain will need a bailout greece probably will need a third bailout and then you have to go back to the bundestag because the court capture him in liability at one hundred ninety billion euro sounds like a lot of money frankly it's not given the money they're going to need and it's some point somebody in the book the stock is going to get up and say this is madness we can no longer pay for the rest of europe you're beginning to see these points of friction coming up more and more and more often and as they do eventually you're going to have the problem to deal with totally donor weary supporters in the north and so i think that there's still a long way to go in this crisis because they have installed the ultimate problem
9:14 am
these countries in the south remain on life support the countries in the north are going to have to pay for them forever it till you get economic productivity on the table we're destroying plates in the air. in the meantime the ongoing crisis has spotted renuka separatism calls and cuts a loony i have a million people took to the streets of bus along not to call for independence from spain they had already attracted a record turnout in the most prosperous parts of spain which blames a central government role in economic winds authorities and got the nanny ads managing a five billion a year a bailout from madrid saying that that's how much bustle on the has been forced to pay so she alleges goblets del clos says the government is imposing centralized nation on parts of the country striving autonomy. while the economic situation in. like in the rest of spain is catastrophic and getting worse but the difference between this year and last year particularly is that now the body of
9:15 am
a lot is in the government and it's there a lot more aggressively centralist and and it's and there are a lot more aggressive against sort of the autonomous rights that regions that that feel themselves as nations like a balloon you know or the. basque region they're a lot more aggressive in imposing that sort of identity on them the people that were out in the streets yesterday calling for independence from spain were to a large extent extremely diverse in terms of what their outlook is on economic policy on democratic mechanisms on a number of issues and it's really kind of hard to say who would have the germany there it's a very very very wide and and yeah it's certainly it doesn't it doesn't look very certain about it that way. the euro crisis is sure is also on the minds of dutch voters as we report later this hour the people of the netherlands go to the polls

and the u.n. security council are quick to condemn some attacks but refuse to denounce others. within the school so far the un has strongly condemned any terror attacks then colleagues failed to. the recent terror attack on syrian security forces in damascus saying that it wasn't really a terror attack as it targeted those who fought against the rebels that explanation frankly shocked me then we suggested condemning not just the attacks in aleppo but those across iraq as well where more than one hundred people died but our partners refrain from any strong statements which makes me think that their position must have changed dramatically and some western countries must deem terror attacks are acceptable when it suits them i wish they'd refute this suspicion but for now i have to keep it. the u.s. says there's no rift with israel over their stance on iran washington insisted both

reports many dutch are wary of austerity and ready to support parties i suggest breaking free from brussels. it was back in ninety ninety two when a treaty was signed it michel to win maastricht in the netherlands establishing the economic and monetary union later paving the way for the creation of the single currency but today mounting a euro skepticism has spread to even countries considered poor eurozone nations including the very one where it all began and the dutch are taking their discontent to the polls so i don't know at this moment what is the best is for europe i have my job because of greece. at the shelf and the netherlands it's a pro european country of course it shouldn't come to the stream level that we see greece now in a repeated fashion this annoyance among the dutch at having to bail out greece again and again has reached a point where some dutch customers refuse to pay the bill of greek restaurants because well they've already paid with bailout money taking on

a euro skeptic and anti brussels stat has become a popular campaign strategy from the far right freedom party which is called for the return of the dutch guilder to the once fringe leftist socialist party openly challenging the german led a steady strategy for europe well we are protesting against our liberal government you know made to distinction between the rich and. much much bigger gap part of the problem is you know did europe brussels has a lot of power now and people feel like they have nothing to say about what's going on with their money or we cannot make our own decisions anymore about our housing projects about our social system about their pensions people do not want to say a united europe is ok you know but you only need a united europe to make sure this piece we can do together and that there's no borders is all right but you know having just if small group of people over liberal

might have been a different color palette that we would have been letting out but as you can see the foot is managing to gain a fraction whereas the dax around half of the said so as we can see the european markets really approves the we journey heading north and as a result investors are now pinning their hopes on the potential for more stimulus from the federal reserve would know the outcome of that one by the end of the week it's a case near the top on that let's see what the common car is used to because it's perhaps no surprise that it is still gaining as it's got this newfound confidence from the courts bringing suit loitering around the strongest level vs the dollar in a five months meanwhile the variable as you can see that it is dany against the bar skits of currencies on that side closer to home for a moment also you would check out the markets here in moscow if you can see they are taking their cue from the international markets also another factor helping out investors here is that oil is gaining it too always an important factor talking
