officials met with officials from eight pacific nations in the latest round of negotiations for the trans-pacific partnership but who else showed up in the negotiations and is there any way for american people to stop this deal from going through. you need to know this the arab spring turned ugly in libya and egypt on tuesday as angry crowds stormed u.s. diplomatic buildings the u.s. ambassador to libya christopher stevens was killed in an attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi libya along with three other american diplomats when a rocket propelled grenade was shot into the building stevens is the first u.s. ambassador to be killed on duty in more than thirty years tack in libya occurred just hours after angry protesters stormed the u.s. embassy in egypt climbing the walls taking down the american flag and hoisting up a black islamic banner both attacks were believed to have been prompted by

a movie made here in the united states by california filmmaker the movie depicts the prophet mohammad as a fraudster and womanizer something that is deeply offensive to the muslim faith the film was also promoted by anti muslim organizations and a trailer for it was posted on you tube sparking the outrage however now u.s. officials believe that at least the attack on the consulate libya claimed the life of ambassador stevens may have been pre-planned executed by using the protests outside as a diversion president obama strongly condemned the attacks and secretary of state clinton released a statement saying we are heartbroken question now everyone is asking is why did this happen. too many americans particularly on the hard right are quick to jump in and to blame islam for the death of four americans of the taking down of two u.s. diplomatic buildings a consulate in libya and an embassy in egypt but this is simplistic thinking of best and racist at worst now rodney king when he was beaten by police in los

angeles this was followed by weeks of riots in los angeles in which thousands of people were injured over a thousand hospitalized fifty three people killed the conservatives at that time tried to blame african-americans black people for the riots insinuating that there was something wrong with african-american culture probably created by l.b.j.'s great society programs what happened after the rodney king beating ins where the more recent riots in new york city over the past decade each one following a police shooting is not an expression of a defective culture in fact it's a reflection of how this country was born and seven hundred seventy six americans rose up and rioted against a system of government that was oppressive and unfair as thomas jefferson wrote the declaration of independence when a long train of abuses and usurpations pursuing invariably the same object even says a design to reduce them under absolute despotism it is their right it is their duty to throw off such government the history of the present king of great britain has

to today and it's not just people of color irish people in new york city rioted in one thousand nine hundred sixty three because they were poor and being drafted while rich people going to higher standards to fight for them in the civil war they rioted in boston in the late nineteenth century to protest attempts by the largely british ancestry protestant government of massachusetts to force their children to protestant public schools a taliesyn jews at various times rioted against terrible working conditions particularly the early twentieth century new york city it's not because they practice their religion that stuck in the tenth century or because their skin was a delicate different color or because they're on civilized it's because they were facing as jefferson wrote a long train of abuses and usurpations. the match that lit the riots in the middle east may have been an intentionally inflammatory video maybe it was the muslims in more affluent parts of the world are not rioting right now and they're not trying to throw out the united states at the end of the day this really isn't about islam it's about oppression poverty and despair and until the good citizens the united

but you know apparently nobody knows yet so far i'm curious well first of all let me say i just completely reject the idea that our founding fathers and the way that our revolution occurred is anything like the rioting that happened during the rodney king beating and the workings of that we founded an organization called project twenty one precisely because we as black americans did not agree that that was an appropriate response a legitimate response and nothing like what we saw in the revolution is an exemplar of this at the same time you don't think some of those both our response our response to basically oppression sense revolution jackies revolution aeration some and registration of other people's. property are two different issues and that is the difference this was not organized this was not in the attempt in the part in and the rodney king riots as a way of expressing some dispute with the existing public policy is that the rebellion this was murder by the way this was murder because of religious

intolerance and this was the religious people being let out and that's the truth here in this case but i think it was even though no i think it was organization like it was a coincidence that it happened on september eleventh this was a response to the weakness that the united states has experienced during the arab spring i am looking when we toppled a friend not a good but a friend in egypt when we created the problem of a libya without a government while we had a good man made us an addict. they have a president in place they don't have a operating government that controls that are not allowed to function and that is going to be a problem for a long time and it's a problem we created well it's going to be a problem yeah you know i don't disagree i die disagreed with president obama's decision to use military force in libya but the point is right now we've got it we you know what what's the pottery barn rules you know if you broke it you pay for it we need if we're going to if we're going to invade iraq if we're going to invade

afghanistan if we're going to invade libya then we should follow that with a marshall plan of some kind o. . or u.k. they are going to break some of these countries i went back to going to anything from afghanistan and we just think endless amounts of money trillions of don't have and we have not done anything like a market economy you know the kind of crazy i mean that you have people starving or that you're the boss and then the stop for a minute that we have nothing like that in either of those countries and that's why they're still bombing people if you have. a rack here just consider this from an iraqi is one of the oldest civilizations on earth right the epic of gilgamesh the oldest known written piece of western literature is seven thousand five hundred years old in the entire history of that country iraq they had never ever had a suicide bomber into we occupied their nation. yes but they had internees in wars that killed hundreds of thousands of people who have more never had a suicide almost on a yearly basis they were at war with one another iraq and iran are with with him of the car we were playing on for years each other will be the way they're going to vote so they said we have many problems of her having the problem well we have

a problem of occupation and we have a problem of religious intolerance one of the problems we can solve by pulling our troops out and coming home the other problem is going to be solved by a major conversation and the followers of islam are going to have to deal with the rest of the world all the other religions that is one point. of this world that have existed have changed their laws and tenets so that they can get along with the liberal societies that we live in today and islam is going to have to step up and take some more and you've got christians in uganda right now who are looking for gay people so they can kill that's a very snowy minority of christians there's a small minority you've got members only a member or a publican members of the u.s. house of representatives who are trying to promote in countries that religious intolerance that happens on the planet is almost universally not one hundred percent but almost universally motivated by people who share a view of faith in islam and you pick a couple of examples of some christian extremists and you say ok that's going to be considered the eclipse scene loads of increasingly the the radicals who are willing to use violence among muslims can again keep in mind there's one point six billion

they have two hundred two nurses and this in an era where we're seen articles new york times about how kids are dying in schools because there's this explosion of allergies and they need more school nurses fifteen thousand five hundred eighty homeless children in the school system and they only have three hundred seventy social workers again for six hundred eighty four schools only seven hundred thirty one counselors you know again for fifteen thousand almost kids a quarter of the chicago elementary schools only a quarter of them have art or music instructors only a third of the schools are fully a third of the schools don't even have libraries these are the issues the teachers screaming about the laws requires them if they're going to go on strike to declare a pay as the issue that that's that's just a requirement under the labor law in the state of illinois but so that's the that's the big often that they used to go on strike but these are the issues that they're really fighting over who are fighting over something like homelessness why in the world would they want to leave the kids below being alone and not have a teacher i mean fifty eight percent of the tickets yet fifty eight pretty good as

they are if you buy the cities to are not graduating a lot to understand that a fifty eight percent of your students are not graduating you are failing this is a school district that has to pay the piper for this is a school district in inner city chicago where they pay on average they spend about eight thousand dollars per student in the suburbs around chicago the average is twenty four thousand dollars or so you say what we need or. more resources in chicago yes so when chick fil a wants to open up a store that will pay taxes oh all of the elite stand up and say we don't want your values and your resources here have you absolutely amazing what instrumental as it is in congress that you need like most urban cities have done all that they can to run productive businesses out with regulation with denouncements and with all of the kinds of things that look you can be that you can be all upset about the medical positions of own manual these sources but punish joy does wish those lacking resources remember when they came in we became the goes out and we have the

greatest education system the world when we were doing celebrating walking around classrooms when we had paper and pencil and a few textbooks more money doesn't mean more quality teachers no i'm with you and in fact you know jim jeffords was a senator from vermont when i lived in vermont i was writing on equal protection and he's he left the republican party famously you know in two thousand and one and his office had commissioned a study on no child left behind what they found was that the only significant consequence of no child left behind was that the private testing industry with which at that time was a two hundred million dollar your industry would become a two billion dollars a year industry and george bush's brother was making all his money in the private school testing him scare is already favor of universe get rid of the chicago mayor city council school board make all rights and all run by the progressives and they can run enter into the ground it doesn't work and you can replicate that you can go to other cities detroit you can go to milwaukee you say all these cities are back

badly underfunded yes they're badly underfunded because the progressives have sought to use the resources of the city for all manner of things other than education and other than holding people accountable and there is the writers the teachers make seventy five thousand dollars a year is a moment if they were really if you are on a fifty it's another you know or could just one of them say you. i'm going to say if you couldn't pay me fifty thousand dollars a year to work in one of these inner cities as i've done to solve for x. y. and right i have one eye of the works in the detroit in or in the inner city schools in detroit you live you know you're going higher rate tom you're worth it but why won't you allow innovations like lead in the catholic church government letting could be riveted given the respect that you're on here organization we're doing everything we can there be those and home there always just we shouldn't be using our money to support a religious home they're making forty two percent more than their public than their private school counterparts yes let me just let's have that right so if you want to have a race to the bottom you know you want you want you on down the workers to make it last in america all of them to compete exactly i want to make money to compete i

also want people at the bottom i want both of them in a service where they're succeeding where they're taking challenges and they're overcoming those differences to be able to participate we're so concerned about somebody might learn about jesus and mary they would rather them not ever graduate being able to read the diploma that they're given on that day for the record you know i'm fine with people having religious schools having private schools if they pay for it in the cells but when it's our tax dollars i don't they just should be doing. well it was working fine until reagan came along i had known they have a very good schools on tuesday moody's issued a warning about downgrading the credit of the united states today moody's issued a warning to the united states that the debt downgrade could be on the horizon of congress doesn't address this coming fiscal cliff and doesn't put in place policies to cover federal debt the money stephen reads if those negotiations lead to specific policies that produce a stabilization and then downward trend of the ratio of federal debt to g.d.p. over the medium term the rating will likely be affirmed the elec return to stable

if those negotiations fail to produce such policies however moody's would expect to lower the rating probably to a so there's two ways to reduce the debt you can cut spending you can raise taxes republicans of no we're taking raising raising taxes off the table isn't isn't that probable that we're going to go off the cliff on january first and sometime in the next week or two at. that congress is going to get together and say ok all the taxes just went up on everybody right as the bush tax cuts went away for everybody with the cliff so let's so let's cut let's cut taxes on the ninety eight percent and all the republicans who have sworn fail to to grover norquist will have to go along with it and it will work or it will know he is one of those is sworn silty but let's talk about this reality i haven't seen a single study tell me that if we got this tax plan that the president wants to single out successful wealthy people that that's going to do anything other than maybe one hundred maybe as much as three hundred billion of the trillion dollar

annual deficit we are running we have there is no way you're going to get there if you want to go the tax route other than giving all the rest of us this president is prepared to take all of america hostage he wanted this one thing which is a voluntary idea of attacking or as a gotcha point he said what he is suggesting is that we go back to the tax rates that we had with bill clinton when we had balanced budgets to go back the spending rates of bill clinton i think we need to go back to that we need to go back to the tax rates but for russian rigor of these empty threats from these rating agencies because they're regulated by the government they're licensed by the government so moody's if moving starts to get a little but it's just as my rate them like they did the last they'll change the bars again and we'll have another debate in a year when they want to raise the debt ceiling and obviously ask oh we're trillion dollars in debt we have two hundred twenty two trillion in unfunded liabilities and we're not even talking about these off the books and here's what eric cantor had to say about doing something about areas. what are you willing to give on congressman i mean when you look at what what size are basically sticking to their guns i mean

can it can it really be realistic to say taxes can never go up that you know taxes should stay where they are purab or i mean in any environment give us your sense in terms of what you're willing to give on for most of all you know raising taxes is not the answer we all know that. hugo it's about lowering taxes i was lowering taxes would be great maybe you would get more revenue if you don't understand a lot for her work sometimes and then use when us let's just kill our government and let the billionaires run everything have to grow on me out of this recession somehow got a son to believe i was right all even even obama little bit leaders were absolutely dozens let the billionaires run our souls let's bring our highland because he's the one who's leading the charge on lowering the corporate tax rate which we all know would create higher revenue for that on there's nobody to paint a picture of the billionaires and i'm looking at the trillion there indebted to bankrupt over here called uncle sam he hasn't monitored by ronald reagan george bush and george bush in charge of all of these things how about we try to let

somebody in the private sector take a shot that you've got why you've got three so you want to replace three consecutive republican administrations with what the c.e.o. say for no i know you're there hard on the dole i don't want you're going to have dole and sacks one hundred but i want people on the dole i want entrepreneurs i want people who actually have created jobs understand how the free market we're in let's just get rid of this after let's just get rid of this democracy there's a congress that florida is running for senate his name's connie mack and he has a plan it's called the penny play and yes it's one stand out of every dollar one out of one hundred one percent everything all the way across the board one penny why couldn't we tell you that he's not going to get it done i really can't even get a vote on that in the end is please name for me one country in the history of the world that has cut its way to prosperity united states yeah now absolutely you're sitting at a right now tom entries after we spend we spend our way into thirty thousand so i could have money or job creation the lace davies new zealand went on a mr t. and tax cutting plan that. that or not make growth it didn't because they reversed

guaranteed health care of course not. i say we're going to replace obamacare and i'm replacing it with my own plan and you know even in massachusetts where i was governor our plan there deals with preexisting conditions and with the heart of every title i'm not getting rid of all of health care reform of course there are a number of things that i like in health care reform that i'm going to put in place of course we're going to keep people with preexisting conditions and then you know the next day his campaign issues the the letter for folks like you guys who are actually paying attention his base that says oh he didn't actually mean that we're going to let the magical. have had some not a mitt romney guy an independent libertarian type so i would definitely disagree with governor romney on that i would repeal it and not replace it with anything and i would also not demand that the insurance companies you know what i would do is i would create a market i would have been three years ago a choice i would create single payer a single payer health care system and it would be tied to the individual so that we would all be responsible and set up to having this year the single payer that's

right i would be the single parents how would you do. first of all. you know i'm not their campaign advisor so i don't know why they can say one thing one day and one thing the other day i. say history on this from repeal of obamacare i believe that's what. the american people what they don't like the mandate and there have always been these sweeteners that were rushed in as part of the process even if you didn't have obamacare we probably have a debate where a majority of people maybe even over my objections would push for some of these sweeteners i still argue that you ought to find a way to bring back the cost of health care closer to the individuals and let the marketplace be the best and when i and my response that is if i'm having a heart attack i don't want to be calling five different doctors getting the lowest price calling three different hospitals and five but right now we've got to wrap it up guys thanks a lot for being with us tonight thank you. after the break to die today thirty thirty thousand teachers and school workers are striking against the chicago public
