x. . bars are in a washington d.c. and here's what's coming up tonight on the big picture. yesterday islamic radicals in libya stormed a u.s. consulate killing ambassador chris stevens and three of his staff members what's the latest on the situation in libya who is responsible for this tragedy and what kind of response should the u.s. take also credit rating company moody's has issued a warning saying that they may downgrade the u.s. his rating if congress doesn't act to cut our debt republicans work with democrats to avert another economic disaster or is a downgrade in our credit inevitable and this week u.s.

officials met with officials from eight pacific nations in the latest round of negotiations for the trans-pacific partnership but who else showed up in the negotiations and is there any way for the american people to stop this deal from going through. you need to know this the arab spring turned ugly in libya and egypt on tuesday is angry crowd stormed u.s. diplomatic buildings the u.s. ambassador to libya christopher stevens was killed in an attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi libya along with three other american diplomats when a rocket propelled grenade was shot into the building stevens's the first u.s. ambassador to be killed on duty in more than thirty years tack in libya occurred just hours after angry protesters stormed the u.s. embassy in egypt climbing the walls taking down the american flag and hoisting up a black islamic banner both attacks are believed to have been prompted by

a movie made here in the united states by a california filmmaker the movie depicts the prophet mohammad as a fraudster and womanizer something that is deeply offensive to the muslim faith the film was also promoted by anti muslim organizations and a trailer for it was posted on you tube sparking the outrage however now u.s. officials believe that at least the attack on the consulate libya claimed the life of ambassador stevens may have been pre-planned executed by using the protests outside as a diversion president obama strongly condemned the attacks and secretary of state clinton released a statement saying we are heartbroken question now everyone is asking is why did this happen. too many americans particularly on the hard right are quick to jump in and to blame islam for the death of four americans of the taking down of two u.s. diplomatic buildings a consulate in libya and an embassy in egypt but this is simplistic thinking at best and racist at worst now rodney king when he was beaten by police in los

angeles this was followed by weeks of riots in los angeles in which thousands of people were injured over a thousand hospitalized fifty three people killed the conservatives at that time tried to blame african-americans black people for the riots insinuating that there was something wrong with african-american culture probably created by l.b.j.'s great society programs what happened after the rodney king beating ins where the more recent riots in new york city over the past decade each one following a police shooting is not an expression of a defective culture in fact it's a reflection of how this country was born and seven hundred seventy six americans rose up and rioted against a system of government that was oppressive and unfair as thomas jefferson wrote the declaration of independence when a long train of abuses in the usurpations pursuing invariably the same object even says a design to reduce them under absolute despotism it is their right it is their duty to throw off such government the history of the present king of great britain has
10:04 pm
a history of repeated injuries and use your patience all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states you see people don't riot when times are good iraq when they're pushed to it the people of both egypt and libya have seen the united states support dictators in their countries for generations they've seen us funder oppressive and violent armies of police forces they watch our transnational corporations work with local oligarchy to keep the rich fabulously rich and the poor in poverty. just like in the united states when red lining was legal and regularly done keeping poor neighborhoods poor were discrimination and badly funded schools conspire to reduce entire populations under absolute despotism when communities are torn apart by poverty and helplessness americans have risen up over and over again whether it was the american revolution the civil war the labor movement from the late one thousand nine hundred since all the early one nine hundred thirty s. or in our poorest and most destitute communities in the one nine hundred seventy s.
10:05 pm
today it's not just people of color irish people in new york city rioted in one thousand nine hundred sixty three because they were poor and being drafted while rich people going to higher standards to fight for them in the civil war they rioted in boston in the late nineteenth century to protest attempts by the largely british ancestry protestant government of massachusetts to force the children to protestant public schools a taliesyn jews at various times rioted against terrible working conditions particularly the early twentieth century new york city it's not because they practice their religion that stuck in the tenth century or because their skin was a delicate different color or because their uncivilized it's because they were facing as jefferson wrote a long train of abuses and usurpations. the match that lit the riots in the middle east may have been an intentionally inflammatory video maybe it was the muslims in more affluent parts of the world are not rioting right now and they're not trying to throw out the united states at the end of the day this really isn't about islam it's about oppression poverty and despair until the good citizens the united states
10:06 pm
realize that and stop with the jingle was ticking racist language and intellectual shortcuts and instead move to stop bombing these part of the world parts of the world and it's to help them build schools and hospitals are just going to be facing more and more of the same. it's ones are you ready to rumble join me for advise and load liberal rumbalara horace cooper conservative commentator and senior fellow at the national center for public policy research and austin peterson a libertarian commentator and director of production of freedom works thank you both for joining me tonight you just heard my rant my take on what happened in libya i mean obviously we're still fit learning what happened it looks like actually there was you know a group that was the planned these attacks it might be al qaeda might be hezbollah might be who knows what local malcontents the were using this as an excuse
10:07 pm
but you know apparently nobody knows yet so far i'm curious well first of all let me say i just completely reject the idea that our founding fathers and the way that our revolution occurred is anything like the rioting that happened during the rodney king beating and the workings of that we founded an organization called project twenty one precisely because we as black americans did not agree that that was an appropriate response a legitimate response and nothing like what we saw in the revolution is an exemplar of this at the same time i don't think that was always both our response our response to basically oppression sense revolution jackies revolution aeration some of the prejudice struction of other peoples. pretty are two different issues and that is the difference this was not organized this was not in the attempt in the part in and the rodney king riots as a way of expressing some dispute with the existing public policy is that the rebellion this was murder by the way this was murder because of religious
10:08 pm
intolerance and this was the religious people being killed i don't know that the truth here in this case but i think it was even though no i think it was organized i don't think it was a coincidence that it happened on september eleventh this was a response to the weakness that the united states has experienced during the arab spring i am looking when we toppled a friend not a good but a friend in egypt when we created the problem of a libya without a government while we had a good many of us an addict. they have a president in place they don't have a operating government that controls that are not allowed to function and that is going to be a problem for a long time and it's a problem we created well it's going to be a probably you know i don't disagree i die disagreed with president obama's decision to use military force in libya but the point is right now we've got it we you know what what's the pottery barn rules you know if you broke it you pay for it we need if we're going to if we're going to invade iraq if we're going to invade
10:09 pm
afghanistan if we're going to invade libya then we should follow that with a marshall plan of some kind well i'm sure you can they are going to break somebody is going to treat you so i went back to going to anything from afghanistan and we just think endless amounts of money trillions of don't have and we have not done anything like them are going to be you know the kind of place that we that's you have people starving to death you're. stop for a minute that we have nothing like that in either of those countries and that's why they're still bombing people in. iraq you're just consider this from iraqis one of the oldest civilizations on earth right the epic of gilgamesh the oldest known written piece of western literature is seven thousand five hundred years old in the entire history of that country iraq they had never ever had a suicide bomber until we occupied their nation. yes but they had internees in wars that killed hundreds of thousands of people who have more never had a suicide almost on a yearly basis they were at war with one another iraq and iran are with with them of the car we don't play in the mob for years each other will be whether we're going to vote so they said we have we grow lots of her we have it in the problem
10:10 pm
well we have a problem of occupation and we have a problem of religious intolerance one of the problems we can solve by pulling our troops out and coming home the other problem is going to be solved by a major conversation and the followers of islam are going to have to deal with the rest of the world all the other religions that is one point all the ability to do in this world that existed have changed their laws and tenets so that they can get along with the liberal societies that we live in today and islam is going to have to step up and take some more of that you've got you've got christians in uganda right now who are looking for gay people so they can kill that's a very soon oh minority of christian minority where you've got members only example republican members of the u.s. house of representatives who are trying to come out and countries the religious intolerance that happens on the planet is almost universally not one hundred percent but almost universally motivated by people who share a view a faith in islam and you pick a couple of examples of some christian extremists and you say ok that's going to be considered the scene loads of it increasingly the radicals who are willing to use violence among muslims can again keep in mind is one point six billion of them on
10:11 pm
earth the number is very very small but let's get some what mitt romney had to say here he started out attacking the president here and here's what he said. the first response of the other states must be outrage at the a breach of the sovereignty of our nation and apology for america's values is never the right course. so talking points memo says this is ration shameful crass undignified and troubling national journal ham handed an inaccurate mark halperin republican craven and ill advised chuck todd outrageous irresponsible i'm stunned john mccain one of his aides not ready for prime time a washington post the whole thing reeked of political opportunism this is the end of the romney campaign you know it sounds like what happened it sounds like what happened when the open mike was catching the reporters all of those things that you describe looked to me like the conspiracy of media types to try to promote obama in any and every situation ronnie lott root of the matter is but he legacy in cairo
10:12 pm
released a statement blaming the marriage for values it was a bit more i say you didn't i may do it it matters that they chose to let it come from the name of a red herring i'll use it if i hate on you saying and let me respond to it right here and i just i have it written right here ok the embassy of the united states in cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of muslims as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions ok let's wish now let's acknowledge follow up let's acknowledge that this was before the riots yes romney may have you just saw asserted that this was sure that this was the response of the obama administration stating that i'm just going to let me finish a sentence early against our person and to say people can't hear us we're both talking way people can understand what is being said the what bronnie said was that this was the this was our response to those riots not true with the state department it was sad thank you for your words it is a response it was right where they said this vicious worst behavior as
10:13 pm
a response to the inflammatory material posted only internet was unjustified but then she added we deplore any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others we do that implicit only. behavior and that's our values we ask everybody how we do not know that there is a guy who was out on a disrespect for religion. our our founding fathers came together because they were they were tired of the hate triangle is coming from europe and all they want to you're absolutely right right i've said ok more rubble after the break. the mission. couldn't take three school a church is free to make amends three. three. priests. mostly broke kessler video for your media

10:16 pm
austin peterson libertarian commentator and director production of freedom works let's go back to chicago teachers union strike is now in its third day they have six hundred eighty four schools in the chicago public school system they have two hundred two nurses and this in an era where we're seen articles new york times about how kids are dying in schools because there's this explosion of allergies and they need more school nurses fifteen thousand five hundred eighty homeless children in the school system and they only have three hundred seventy social workers again for six hundred eighty four schools only seven hundred thirty one counselors and you know it again for fifteen thousand almost a quarter of the chicago elementary schools only a quarter of them have art or music instructors only a third of the schools are fully a third of the schools don't even have libraries these are the issues the teachers screaming about the laws requires them if they're going to go on strike to declare a pay as the issue that that's that's just a requirement under the labor law in the state of illinois but so that's the that's the big awful in that they used to go on strike but these are the issues that
10:17 pm
they're really fighting over they're fighting over something like homelessness why in the world would they want to leave the kids below being alone and not have a teacher i mean fifty eight percent of the goats yet fifty eight pretty good as they're fighting the cities to are not graduating a lot to understand that a fifty percent of your students are not graduating you are failing this is a school district has to pay the piper for this is a school that is to an inner city chicago where they pay on average they spend about eight thousand dollars per student in the suburbs around chicago the average is twenty four thousand dollars which so you say what we need or more resources in chicago yes so when chick fil a wants to open up a store that will pay taxes oh all of the elite stand up and say we don't want your values in your resources here have you. absolutely amazing what instrumental as it is that you need like most urban cities have done all that they can to run productive businesses out with regulation with denouncements and with all of the kinds of things that look you can be that you can be all upset about the medical
10:18 pm
positions of own manual and these sources but punish joy does wish those lack of resources remember when they came in we became the goes out and i think jobs we have the greatest education system the world when we were doing celebrated came around classrooms when we had paper and pencil and a few textbooks more money doesn't mean more quality teachers no i'm with you and in fact you know jim jeffords was a senator from vermont when i lived in vermont i was writing on equal protection and he's he left the republican party famously you know in two thousand and one and his office had commissioned a study on no child left behind what they found was that the only significant consequence of no child left behind was that the private testing industry with which at that time was a two hundred million dollar your industry would become a two billion dollar year industry and george bush's brother was making all his money in the private school testing him scare is so i mean already favor of universe get rid of the chicago mayor city council school board made all rights and all run by the progressives and they can run them over into the ground it doesn't
10:19 pm
work and you can replicate that you can go to other cities detroit you can go to milwaukee you say all these cities are back badly underfunded yes they're badly underfunded because the progressives have sought to use the resources of the city for all manner of things other than education and other than holding people accountable and there is the writers the teachers make seventy five thousand dollars a year is a moment if they were really if you are a fifty it's a good thing you know or could just walk around and say i'm going to if you couldn't pay me fifty thousand dollars a year to work in one of these inner cities as i've done to solve for x. y. and right i have one eye of the learn to ski in the detroit in or in the inner city schools in detroit you live you know. going higher rate tom you're worth it but why won't you allow innovations like lead in the catholic church government letting consider a bit of catholics respond that you're on here organization we're doing everything we can there be those and homes no it's just we shouldn't be using our money to support a religious home they're making forty two percent more than their public than the
10:20 pm
private school counterparts yes let me just let's have that right so if you want to have a race to the bottom you know you want you want you on the workers to make it last in america oh i'm going to compete exactly i want to make a lot of money to compete i also want people at the bottom i want both of them a service where they're succeeding where they're taking challenges and they're overcoming those differences to be able to participate we are so concerned about somebody might learn about jesus and mary that we'd rather them not ever graduate being able to read the diploma that they're given on that day for the record you know i'm fine with people having religious schools having private schools if they pay for it in the cells but when it's our tax dollars i don't know just should i do . well it was working fine until reagan came along i had known them a very good schools on tuesday moody's issued a warning about downgrading the credit of the united states today moody's issued a warning to the united states that the debt downgrade could be on the horizon of congress doesn't address this coming fiscal cliff and doesn't put in place policies to cover federal debt the moody's statement reads if those negotiations lead to
10:21 pm
specific policies that produce a stabilization and then downward trend in the ratio of federal debt to g.d.p. over the medium term the rating will likely be affirmed in the elec return to stable if those negotiations fail to produce such policies however moody's would expect to lower the rating probably to eight so there's two ways to reduce the debt you can cut spending you can raise taxes republicans of no we're taking raise the raising taxes off the table isn't it isn't it probable that we're going to go off the cliff on january first and sometime in the next week or two after that congress is going to get together and say ok all the taxes just went up on everybody right as the bush tax cuts went away for everybody at the close so let's so let's cut let's cut taxes on the nih. percent and all the republicans who have sworn failed to to grover norquist will have to go along with it and it will work or it will be as one of those is sworn silty but first of all let's talk about this reality i haven't seen a single study tell me that if we got this tax plan that the president wants to
10:22 pm
single out successful wealthy people that that's going to do anything other than maybe one hundred maybe as much as three hundred billion of the trillion dollar annual deficit we are running we have there is no way you're going to get there if you want to go the tax route other than getting all the rest of us this president is prepared to take all of america hostage he wanted this one louis involving idea of attacking or as a gotcha point he said what he is suggesting is that we go back to the tax rates that we had with bill clinton when we had balanced budgets you go back the spending rates of bill clinton i think we need to go back to you go back to the tax rates but for russian rigor of these empty threats from these rating agencies because they're regulated by the government they're licensed by the government so moody's if moving starts to get a little better you just as my rate them like they did the last they'll change the bars again and we'll have another debate in a year when they want to raise the debt ceiling and obviously ask oh we're trillion dollars in debt we have two hundred twenty two trillion in unfunded liabilities and we're not even talking about these off the books and here's what he or cantor had to say about doing something about areas. what are you willing to give on
10:23 pm
congressman i mean when you look at what what newt you sides are basically sticking to their guns i mean can it can it really be realistic to say taxes can never go up that you know that taxes should stay where they are ever i mean in any environment give us your sense in terms of what you're willing to give on for most of all you know raising taxes is not the answer we all know that. there you go it's about lowering taxes i was blowing taxes would be great maybe you would get more revenue if you don't understand a lot for curve work sometimes you have to use when you ask let's just show our government to let the billionaires run everything have to grow on me out of this recession somehow it's got a son to billionaires run it all even even obama won't level billionaires rabs reasons let the billionaires run our schools let's put our high then because he's the one who's leading the charge on lowering the corporate tax rate which we all know would create higher revenue for that on his devotees painting retests falls to us through the billionaires and i'm looking at the trillionaire indebted to bankrupt over here called uncle sam he hasn't monitored by ronald reagan george
10:24 pm
bush and george bush in charge of all of these things how about we try to let somebody in the private sector take a shot at you've got why you got three so you want to replace three consecutive republican administrations with what the c.e.o. say for no no your their profit on the dole i don't want you're going to have dole and sacks one hundred i don't want people on the dole i want entrepreneurs i want people who actually have created jobs understand how the free market we're in let's just get rid of this after let's just get rid of this democracy there's a congress that florida is running for senate his name is connie mack and he has a plan it's called the penny play and yeah it is one stand out of every dollar one out of one hundred one percent everything all the way across the board one penny why couldn't we tell you that he's not that you know you can you don't i really can't even get a vote on that endlessly on this please name for me one country in the history of the world that has cut its way to prosperity united states oh yeah absolutely you're sitting in right now tom entries after we spend we spend our way into thirty
10:25 pm
thousand so i get money on job creation the late stage he's new zealand went on a mr t. and tax cutting plan that. that are not make growth it didn't because they reversed course and he said oh we've got all the ad because it didn't last forever we're not going to recession they engage in an aggressive privatization program and they had blockbuster but i think the united states does need to face up to the fact that we do need bankrolls and we do need some we have a show and look what happened with i was. when they had the two thousand and eight financial collapse right now there they are what they're telling their bankers we're going to put you guys and you know that maybe that maybe what they didn't do was they didn't inflate their way out of it this government this market does not mean while they have more liquidity and needs more confidence it needs more of a ronald reagan less jimmy carter hundred ten percent confidence fairy yes we're all ok mere romney has figured out a new way to lie here's how he does it he goes on an interview with this watched by millions and millions of people like meet the press and says a lot in the areas. on health care you say that you are seeing the president's
10:26 pm
health care plan on day one does that mean that you're prepared to say to americans young adults and those with preexisting conditions that they would no longer be guaranteed health care. i say we're going to replace obamacare and i'm replacing it with my own plan and you know even in massachusetts where i was governor our plan there deals with preexisting conditions and with the heart of every plan well i'm not getting rid of all of health care reform of course there are a number of things that i like in health care reform that i'm going to put in place of course we're going to keep people with preexisting conditions and then you know the next day his campaign issues the the letter for folks like you guys who are actually paying attention his base that says oh he didn't actually mean that we're going to let the magical. had some out of mitt romney guy so i'm an independent libertarian type so i would definitely disagree with governor romney on that i would repeal it and not replace it with anything that i would also not demand that the insurance not letting you know what i would do is i would create
10:27 pm
a market i would have been for years like a choice i would create single parent single payer health care system and it would be tied to the individual so that we would all be responsible and set up to having a secure the single payer that's right i would be the single parents how would you do. first of all. you know i'm not their campaign advisor so i don't know why they say one thing one day and one thing the other day i am a little bit rattled it's a history on the road repeal of obamacare i believe that's what. the american people want they don't like the mandate and there have always been these sweeteners that were rushed in as part of the process even if you didn't have obamacare we probably have a debate where a majority of people even over my objections would push for some of these sweeteners i still argue that you ought to find a way to bring back the cost of health care closer to the individuals and let the marketplace be the best and when i said it and my response that is if i'm having a heart attack i don't want to be calling five different doctors getting the lowest price calling three different hospitals and five but i mean we got to wrap it up
