rage against america u.s. embassies come under attack by mobs engineers ias sudan and yemen all in response to the u.s. made film mocking islam. meanwhile in cairo the violence shows no sign of dying down as clashes enter the fourth day despite attempts by the country's most influential political group to calm the outrage. in washington scrambles for damage control now sending in military personnel to protect its foreign staff across the arab world this is while u.s. diplomatic efforts continue to fail to appease the and.
1:01 pm
even this is r.t. it's now nine pm here in moscow money was kevin zero in the made news story tonight the wave of anti-american protests sweeping across the muslim world with unprecedented force this friday u.s. embassies in shouldna zero and sudan have come under attack and over in lebanon one post person reportedly been killed after more set fire to a k.f.c. restaurant clashes also continue in cairo and in yemen we'll be talking to a middle eastern north africa responding policy a little bit later for a report but let's now straightaway go to washington d.c. our correspondent there. she's covering the american reaction to it. and we've been witnessing this incredible mess that needs to be sorted out by washington what are the american officials done in reaction to this so far. well obviously the obama administration is trying to somehow contain the blowback that this anti islamic film had in the muslim world and their way of doing that is to say again and again that the u.s. government had nothing to do with the production of the film that they too find it
1:02 pm
disgusting but the words have done nothing to put out this flame of rage sweeping the arab world one of the first comments that they'd made with regard to the deadly attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi how could this happen how could this happen in a country that the u.s. quote unquote helped liberate the u.s. officials are now carefully calibrating their response to what's happening all across the muslim world but there is clearly a sense of shock about what's going what's going on and their damage control work mainly focuses on the film but now it's clear to pretty much everyone that it's not just about the film this rage against the united states has been brewing for a while now and it just needed a spark to blow up in the film was that spark from the statements that we hear from the administration that about what a force for good the u.s. is for the region we hear again in the speeches by hillary clinton the by president
1:03 pm
obama trying to suggest that they thought by supporting the revolutions in the region people were going to fall in love with america but that's clearly that's not what's happening now according to. the government to ensure the security of the diplomatic premises on its territory the american authorities criticizing the middle east counterparts for apparently not doing so. well kevin no we don't hear much criticism open criticism at least toward the leaders there who obviously have done. have not done and to contain this public rage is led to the mob and doubt their anger and it spiraled it clearly spiraled out of control after all the muslim brotherhood you know they call. for nationwide protests which . which are now out of control so we don't hear much criticism from the administration but the pundits journalists. and the media here there really day
1:04 pm
they expressed that to frost ration here you know on t.v. you can hear commentators saying how could this be happening for example with regard to egypt in a country where we were sending billions of dollars we have spent billions of dollars so those are the comments that we hear here from not from the administration but again in the media the u.s. is now in a difficult position they can't really lashed out at those leaders or the people there because washington cheered so greatly for the changes that swept the region or the current leaving government essentially ols its power to the united states in libya by the way that there are still questions as to whether it was just the angry mob attacked the was consulate there in benghazi or whether an organized terrorist group jumped on the bandwagon of this film his theory and perpetrated the vicious
1:05 pm
attacks the chaos the influx of arms into league during the war against gadhafi created a perfect environment for extremists there. who are going to come thanks for bring you some today with the american perspective there in the way it's been looked in washington d.c. right let's get a fuller picture now and talk to our middle east correspondent she followed report for just a bit earlier on this this will pull mostly. the violence is spreading across the region we know they're going to miss the protesters they have clashed with police according to eyewitnesses at the scene who was in gunfire hood and this as coaches to cease fire to the american embassy now we're also watching to see reports that the house was to be in an attempt to set fire to marry from the school into his own by the flags flown by the poachers through into this or similar type of scenes unfolding in sudan and they we know that there were several thousand protesters who stormed the american embassy in the reports we have is that they actually managed
1:06 pm
to climb the wall all be able to see the fact that the magic stoff were evacuated and that no one was in fact injured we did see the same type of scenes on holding on to the british and american deceivingly to a lot of frustration we hear reports of gunfire and we can particularly in front of the german inference that there was a lot of fighting taking place in yemen and we had reports saw that there was tear gas and rounds of live ammunition fired by police for the second straight day that there has been trouble in front of the american embassy where yesterday tuesday because in yemen did manage to reach the perimeter play in this election break through the poor much security fence novel united states is sending rulings to yemen to help beef up its security record free there's also been violence in lebanon where we hear that at least one person has been killed in the city gazans have been injured and this comes to me more than the against secure we respond k.f.c.
1:07 pm
was on fire this to an expression of anger against an american backed movie that insults the prophet muhammad the authorities here in egypt possibly struggling to deal with the situation and student requirements the egyptian president mohamed morsi is currently in the u.s. where he has managed to secure one billion dollars in foreign investment but that is not well received back or with people are asking why even though here to deal. the crisis certainly be worse fate of wine it's time hold on to his feet since morsi took office at the same time i've been on the streets of the last few hours and i continue to use incredibly want to talk i got course in the crossfire between four to six on the one hand lifting up chunks of pavement and pulling it out security police who were on the other side of what they went to this morning which was essentially a concrete wall that put it up at six o'clock this morning five eight and they've been firing rounds to get the protest is over and i was courting several of those tear gas attacks electric gas is very very strong focus is running in all
1:08 pm
directions a lot of confusion a lot of anger and really we'll make him on the streets of cairo now the muslim brotherhood did issue a call with any of this morning for a nationwide protest to be held to express dissatisfaction with this in a movie made with that cornyn said that they should be more money to ministries that held that city the muslim brotherhood is not at the forefront of the anger and the violence that we see in egypt the youngsters on his feet and looking at the only seven dollars the youngsters are really angry about this movie and they're not taking any kind of guidance over what the muslim brotherhood is telling them or not telling them to do lists of policy there are africa and the middle east correspondent write us because some more thought for investigative journalist gareth porter you also specializes in u.s. national security is joining us on the line from washington d.c. here to garrus as we're witnessing the arab world's again today in a big protest against america but shouldn't washington have been to surprise had
1:09 pm
this indeed orat least been prepared for an outbreak of anger like this in these volatile communities is it such a surprise. well you're absolutely right it should not have been a surprise in fact you know there's plenty of evidence has been plenty of evidence for years that the united states has been playing with fire in regard to its broad policy toward the problem of terrorism and towards the middle east in that there are there has been building for many years a strong sentiment among arab countries and islamic countries populations that the united states has become an anti islamic country particularly because of its fighting wars within islamic countries carrying out wars in iraq and in. and in afghanistan in particular but also in pakistan the drone war in
1:10 pm
pakistan and then on top of this the strong impression that the us population harbors and the islamic sentiments which of course this latest crisis has once again raised in the minds of most i would say. arab and islamic populations across the globe and so i mean this is this should be a wake up call a red. or red light flashing for the national security lead in the united states that they need to take a deep breath take a big long rethink about the broad strategy that they've been following with regard to national security policy it has not worked it is backfired and has made the united states much more vulnerable to the threat of terrorism in the future and in view of what's happening in libya should it be reassessing its security emergency
1:11 pm
security for its officials it's a it's a embassies abroad as well. well i don't have any specific recommendations for the protection of u.s. diplomats but but i must say it would probably make sense to pull back from the most vulnerable areas until the united states has in fact done this rethink and has tried to sensibly signals that it recognizes that has made some serious mistakes i think that's what's really called for the situation how much political influence do you think washington is now said to lose in the region after these protests it's difficult to know how long they'll go on but if they die down relatively quickly next couple of days what's the picture going to be do you think. well i'm not sure that this you know fundamentally changes the situation with regard to u.s. influence in the region i think that influence has been on the wane for years it's measured by the attitude surveys that have been taking you know we know that in the
1:12 pm
short or is it another nail in the whole day there was a. well of course you know it's another indication i think of just how low the the view of the united states has has gone in this region and around the world but i was going to say that the last poll that we have been in egypt shows that only twenty percent of the population had any favorable view of the united states and this of course is an indication that something has gone terribly wrong in u.s. policy how much responsibility is there now on the leaders of the arab spring countries that were supported by the u.s. to contain these mass protests thought big after all these events could see support for terrorist groups grow could make. well absolutely that is that is precisely the dangerous implication of what has happened in these countries but if you're talking
1:13 pm
for example about egypt you have an islamist government in power for the first time in modern egyptian history and that government cannot afford to take a position that looks like it's defending the role of the united states in the country and it's undoubtedly going to have to be very careful about the way it handles this crisis and i think that that is what we might as well settle for in this situation an investigator and it's got a lot of things from a lot of the washington d.c. appreciated. well responsibility for the video that inflame the arab world reportedly rests with los angeles filmmaker in a cooler percent in a cooler a cup to christie an american and convicted fraudster some of the act is claiming that all the insults to islam in the video were added later but if it produces well some american bloke is playing the sure movie might not even exist at all what is sure though is that the video has left us policy across the arab world facing a deadly blowback when to put my explains my. anger is
1:14 pm
rising rage is spreading and american flags are burning throughout the arab world this isn't exactly the type of relationship washington envisioned after barack obama became president i've come here to cairo to seek a new beginning between the united states and muslims around the world the new u.s. leader promised to turn the page and mend relations tarnished by george w. bush's war on terror he even granted his first foreign television interview to al arabiya an arabic language channel my job for the muslim world is to communicate but the americans are not your enemy washington invested huge resources in building a massive social media presence comprised of nearly two hundred different accounts to spread its message. a friendship by the end of last year the u.s. had spent seventy million dollars assisting foreign citizens with the resources to bypass online firewalls and censorship. the bitter irony is
1:15 pm
that a youtube clip posted by one american instantly buried massive efforts made by the u.s. government as americans were being held hostage by a small group of extremists people here in america think when they put their views on you tube and now the technology is such that it can be seen all over the world i think people in egypt and libya and some of these places don't understand this is not the view of most americans this is not the view of the u.s. government according to many experts a large majority of the arab world has grown too familiar with the anti muslim sentiment america is accused of cementing the policy of the americans towards this part of the world is inadequate and doesn't call for dialogue doesn't call for development doesn't call for progress it calls for the moving of those units because it puts american interests and some western interests a cause for war and the invasion of iraq as we have seen destruction of afghanistan
1:16 pm
no progress on the peace level in palestine takes the spark for it to you know all come out in violent forms as we can see now on the screen and this is what's happening within forty eight hours the fury that began in egypt spread to libya yemen lebanon and iran in afghanistan due to bush shutdown but tensions in the muslim world seem to be only increasing there has been a lot of simmering nancy american feeling right across the entire arab world it's there it's worse in pakistan we're all show that we're ninety percent of pakistanis americans their primary an enemy america has never lot of bloggers and it's made a lot of enemies in the arab spring countries america helped revolutionize the line . between friend and foe has blurred despite all the time and money washington has spent using the internet to promote its islam friendly foreign policy the world wide web has also served as the platform that enabled one american extremist to

infuriate millions overseas and the rail years of progress marina port ny r.t. new york we're also closely following developments at r.t. dot com we want to get your thoughts tonight as to you think is to blame for the anti-american violence in the arab the what you're seeing right now this is what you're telling us that more than half of you hold washington responsible saying it's a global for america's foreign policy just under a fifth of you blaming irresponsible american islamophobia for fueling the current unrest slightly fewer think radical anti western muslims of the cause as you can see the six percent remaining few believe the violence has been orchestrated by arab regimes you can head to r.t. dot com anytime someone. vote to let us know what you think so it's good to hear from one of the two were carrying live footage from where the current anchors erupted and which is currently spreading across north africa the middle east we've also got a timeline of the violence as it's been unfolding that's all that r.t.

dot com. to other news now britain is suffering its worst housing crisis in modern history with the number of new households increasing faster than the number of homes it can build over one point seven million families are waiting for a place to live laura smith scott the story. the biggest social issue facing britain today there's a chronic housing shortage and an increasingly didn't laugh today it is housing stock that isn't being replaced it's to do with the recession but a crisis was looming even before that house building has fallen by seventy percent over the last fifty years while the population has grown by twenty percent and to the prime minister's pledge to unleash one of the biggest building programs this country has seen in a generation but his opponents own convinced by those words especially coming from

a government that slashed four billion pounds from investments in affordable housing shortly after its election and affordable housing building starts have collapsed by sixty eight percent council building stocks have collapsed by ninety seven percent we've not seen before. in our history and it's the responsibility. of government policies and desperate times call for desperate measures one council is reportedly considering asking people to rent out rooms in their houses to solve the shortage of accommodation meanwhile more than hoff of social housing in some areas is under. inhofe which north of london there are more than three thousand families languishing on the housing list while five thousand seven hundred homes are under used and the problem isn't just with social housing decade food under supply i have seen house prices birol out of reach banks

way lends to first time buyers paying high levels of rents mean they're unable to save up for the huge deposit lenders now require means the average age spread by your first home is approaching forty years old and many will never be able to afford their own home. for ready. all is on the rise despite american sanctions on an e.u. ban on the country's crude to the international energy agency says two rounds crude sales are rising no edging over a million barrels a day european and u.s. sanctions are imposed to pressure iran over its nuclear program which to maine says and it. may take is entirely peaceful but iran's resources of course still a hot commodity across the region seems the turkey china and india are currently the top of porters we spoke to political analyst chris bambery he says continuing to block oil trade with iran could harm other economies this is what he had to say . they're all embargoed essentially implemented by the united states and its
1:21 pm
european allies and they're having great difficulty in even getting their friends to implement this in boggle for instance japan is desperately getting a waiver trying to get a waiver from washington in order to continue really in oil imports it needs a reunion oil but more importantly iran is discovering new markets china is continuing to take really an oil so as india the americans of desperate to try ensure israel that somehow sanctions are working in order to see if the sanctions are going to beggar arounds economy just like they did in iraq and therefore we don't need to attack iran iran and moment like netanyahu to do it iran is a major world economy a world and actually of europe. economic trade and economic contacts in around these new other economies are going to step in and fill the breach and therefore in europe there is a fear it's going to be excluded from the iranian markets as

a result of these sanctions i think that is actually what's going to happen. more than a new snowfall russian tourists have been killed in a bus crash in greece the russian consulate confirmed the deaths and said thirty other people have been injured some of them severely that bus crashed on the highway from the region of children to the city of first law nikki an initial investigation says the driver lost control of the vehicle on a slippery road in the bus overturned the russian tourists were on their way to thessaloniki airport to fly back home weeklong clashes in turkey between kurdish fighters and security forces have killed at least seventy five billiton and four soldiers in the southeast the military claims it's part of large scale offensive which is seen over seven thousand troops deployed to the area kurds make up the majority of the population a volatile area and have been fighting for autonomy since one thousand nine hundred four with hundreds of militants believed to be hiding in neighboring iraq. a japanese cabinet panel has called for the phasing out of nuclear power over the next three decades the move comes as the country struggles to make

a shift in its energy policy after that earthquake and tsunami devastated the fukushima nuclear power plant in twenty eleven other governments closed down all atomic plants after the accident however some of them since then reopened to cope with the country's power demand around a third of japan's energy is currently generated by nuclear power plants. a bus has crashed a fuel tank released in afghanistan killing fifty one as the vehicles of whatsit into flames it's not known why they collided at a separate incident in the country a nato service member was reportedly killed in a militant attack in the east violence has recently surge in afghanistan with most attacks conducted by taliban insurgents. and next hour two we talked to a man who spent forty five days in taliban captivity he shares with us his unique insight of what it's like on the other side of the war on terror. when i was captured by the taliban and when i was in prison i had to listen for hours and hours and hours to television recruitment tapes and suicide recruitment tapes they

talk of or this seeing which. pashtoon history pushed in geography pushed to in poetry this is a nationalist movement in their view they are simply trying to free themselves of foreign infidel invaders exactly like their fathers and grandfathers in order to have what they feel is a proper islamic government. twenty four when i suppose not at night moscow time i spoke of mother lied to me true the business. of the fed's decision for more stimulus is cause the global rally on the markets today what's it looking like now the well it looks like the repast out it has been losing a bit of its steam but in russia the markets ended up almost seven percent fantastic there on the markets in the well in the latest decision to go ahead with a new wave of quantitative easing and that means a buyout program all around the markets but it's not just bonds but just any other
1:25 pm
financial instruments this is a huge stimulus is of course sending a very positive signal to the markets given that they've been expecting it for for several months now but jacobson from saxo bank says that this does not solve the problems in the economy. short term of course what happens fundamentally here is stage you make money cheaper and as such you will want to see tangible ass's like all the gas gold all to go off in order to have the system to reset itself so yes it will create an increased appetite but you have to remember this is almost like. definition of insanity which is stage if you keep repeating the same experiment expecting different results what i'm trying to say with it is of course this is the third time we do quantitative easing included and then also we have operation twist so if they actually this is going to do nothing to the unemployed
1:26 pm
and saw them do it is going to do absolutely nothing to the growth. the u.s. may just obstacle still remains in place. all right now let's loud take a look at the numbers on the markets the dow jones is up point three percent up to grown one half percent in the previous session so yes indeed the rallies continuing but as i said it looks like it's losing a bit of it steve now on the other markets europe is closed ended up one and a half percent this is also coupled with the fact that the well the fed the quantities and program is coupled there with the formed by our program from the e.c.b. so this is normal out rally pretty much for europe and the currencies markets the tables have indeed over the past month turned for the dollar euro rate it's now at one point three one month ago was one point two one that's a very significant change for this short amount of time and the russian ruble was strengthening against both currencies today as you can see two and a half percent versus the dollar. and that's also on the back of high up world
1:27 pm
prices which are very supportive for the russian ruble and they are also as i said losing a bit of the steel the up more than one dollar per barrel actually light sweet was above one hundred dollars per barrel of one point today the session and this is also been supporting the russian markets the cyclical what was happening there and six point nine percent growth for the arts yes is a is a big big. movement for one session of course my six are more than four percent weaker than the r.t.s. in the back and stronger record and among the stocks the financials were outperforming the market would be to be a poor more than six percent the. energy company was trading again up almost nine almost ten percent as you can see that one point and the system was worse than the markets so weaker than expected six weeks of results. and europe is.
1:28 pm
basically out of the. hand that still warms during winter that's gazprom is demanding equal prices for gas for all countries does not want to accept the fact that in some member states gas is first percent cheaper than another nations this move is also amid the e.u. . probe into gas forms activities the european commission is investigating whether gazprom resorted to unfair competition price fixing the world just from says its business practices comply with the laws of all countries that have to. be back in around fifty five minutes with a nother update of the business thanks to me tree lovely ok so with more to find out shortly we check out more of the latest economic headlines to laura lister in tonight's capital account our studios in washington d.c. than the venue very shortly tonight next in fact on.
