absolutely nothing to solve the country's wealth inequality. global news live from moscow city center this is with me rory sushi over a thousand protesters have torched cars and holed stones at a u.s. base on the outskirts of the afghan capital kabul it's the latest outburst in the global wave of muslim fury over a u.s. made film by the backlash protests which first began in egypt have now been running for almost a week and have spread to over twenty countries worldwide. now let's get the latest enough wall to support

a serious study by for us in cairo paula good to see you can you bring us up to date now the latest outbreak so the u.s. reaction. well police and protesters have clashed in the indonesian capital of jakarta nobby's clashes took place when hundreds of hard line is march the consent of the american embassy they took the police by surprise when they started hurling rocks at them because until now the demonstrations that have been taking place across indonesia which is the world's most populous muslim nation have seen the still the police responded with tear gas with water cannons and i mean the one shots in the game to disperse the crowd but not before protesters had the chance to throw molotov cocktails to good tires and also to say told explosives those two on monday girls have first class which implies to stop this happening in the north west of the country where at least one protester has been killed hundreds of protesters say to fly out to a government office building as well as to

a place office and this is allegedly because they were complaining that the demonstrations in pakistan until now have not been receiving enough media attention this one of those clashes in pakistan over the weekend that happened in the cities of pitch a laugh as well as in collage we saw protesters marching holding up banners and corning for the american ambassador to be expelled and for a boycott on american goods and services now also there has been clashes in the afghan capital of kabul where we've seen more than a thousand protesters sit quiet to cause as well a story to contain is american military installations on monday when i was also turned on lebanon in light of a televised address given by the leader has done in the saddam. his beloved leader has called for stepped up protests throughout heaven on this week starting monday evening in the southern suburbs of beirut he says at this moment is the worst insult to islam that he has put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the united

states also in lebanon on the foreign minister there it is pointing to an emergency meeting of the arab league to discuss this full moon now the united states has been sanding additional security it's been sending the marines to beef up the security in various cities around the region and this is only inflaming tensions on the ground with many people i'm talking to asking the question whether or not the united states is not benefiting from this violence as it now has the excuse to send the suits on the ground given time of the situation is calm for the moment although tensions on buying high you so he can feel that the mood is extremely tense with the possibility that any kind of violence could erupt any time. there's a policy there reporting live from cairo thank you. for now in the wake of the scandal the white house has asked google to scrap the controversial video from you tube the web giant refused the request although the access to the movie has been

blocked in some countries as well as he's gone a church a can now reports the damage control mission has expose the hypocrisy of washington's internet policies santai islamic film may not have been the only reason behind the mass rage in the muslim world but it did provide the spark that lit the power to care oh my god oh yes. the obama administration began their damage control efforts by bashing the film this video is disgusting and reprehensible. at the same time maintaining that internet freedom cannot be curtailed we do not stop individual citizens from expressing their views no matter how distasteful they may be when the rage against the u.s. spread like wildfire with people in different countries storming u.s. embassies was the white house

asked you tube to quote review the b.t.o. to see if it was in compliance with their terms of use end of quote the company determined that the video was within guidelines but they did block it in a number of countries including libya egypt pakistan india and indonesia but i don't think there's much that they can do about the fact that these social network tools are now in play in a situation where the effect is clearly going to be to mobilize anti-american sentiment in an america and american activity in the wake of the arab spring the obama administration has been advertising the internet as a great tool to bring about change the policy involves spending millions of dollars to train activists in the muslim world on how to take advantage of the internet. we want to keep the internet open for the protestor using social media to organize a march in egypt the college student emailing her family photos of her semester

abroad the lawyer in vietnam blogging to expose corruption but nowhere on hillary clinton's plans was there a person with a film mocking the prophet muhammad or thousands of angry people venting their rage over american policy towards the muslim world it seems a very weapon the state department hoped would further the arab spring has now backfired the fact of the matter is that the air net as wonderful as it is is also full of junk which means anything in offensive text an offensive film can potentially provoke mass rage in different parts of the world many now see that the internet alone can bring change and sometimes it can be the fastest way to spread violence and chaos in washington i'm going to check on. well amid the anti american outrage among the muslims civilian deaths continue to rise in afghanistan it's adding to the anger eight women and a group of young girls have been killed in a nato airstrike that was targeting suspected militants in afghanistan as long

criticized the u.s. over his use of asterix foreign affairs analyst richard hidari and says the latest incident involving nato is only making about the situation even worse. america is in a very delicate situation right now it's already paying the price for uncritical and supporting all sorts of rebel oppositions across the region especially in the case of libya but its force of guns than its concerned i mean there is also paying the price for not looking police to go approach to solving the insurgency each so what we see right now is not only a conflict between international security force this is it and that's probably what the. internal problems also between the u.s. forces for the nato forces when we talk about this again clash with the in the lease and paint the strike it is also a reflection of a warning trend we're in the americans and nato forces are increasingly relying on

not very surgical and not very non-lethal. drone operations in order to eliminate their enemy called but that's obviously what you see and according to a lot of research us for us for us the operations are concerned out of every ten casualties at least seven are civilians and beneath us in saving afghanistan it's going to be here all these for over all muslim breach against united states of america so all the see what popping up this is just going to war sunday so we should. go throughout the day here on out we discuss the anti american to rise up with a man who describes himself as a former extremist and who is now railing against radical islam the interview with the tough economy is coming up in about an hour and twenty minutes from.

you're watching us here live from moscow where it's now ten minutes past the hour still to come for you in the program. from the start the crew of russia so you spacecraft land safely after their four month mission the orbiting international space station. about one year ago today the occupy wall street movement began in new york's zuccotti park before quickly spreading across the country after countless protests and beatings of the heavy hands of police activists are gearing up for more than i thought he was an associate truck and explains that they won't stop until something significant changes. triggered by wealth inequality inspired by the arab spring occupy wall street a movement of the people bringing up real dialogue over the need to improve the way

america runs. spilled onto the streets when the same bankers that clapped our economy were bailed out by our taxpayer money that provoked occupy wall street and what we hope to do with the brain that outrage outrage about very basic issues that most americans intuitively understand. the big apple became the birthplace of the occupy movement just one week into the protests all hell broke loose. when they sprayed those those women and made all those arrests it was really intense police brutality was brought into the spotlight protesters often confronted by tear gas and. pepper sprayed even war veterans injured through. faces bloodied demonstrators beaten with buttons and dragged journalists abused and arrested.

camps in major cities eventually eradicated by officials one after another remembers a county park in new york's financial district it was here that the first occupy camp was set up hundreds of people made this in their. thousands showing support in the fight for change eventually it got cleared out and stands largely empty today occupy up to the same change the format did not put in and. when people go out and protest in the streets the naysayers complain and say what are they getting done and when the when the activists go and organize and actually you know effect change they're not in the streets they say oh look now they're gone well critics say occupy did not bring the change and accountability it fought for few would argue that the economic and social issues that triggered occupy have been solved about one third of the american public is either in poverty or on the cusp of poverty that's one hundred million people and yet you hear virtually nothing about poverty
7:13 am
in this election occupy wall street started the fight of the ninety nine percent versus the wealthiest one percent a year later the political establishment and wall street are still sleeping in the same bed this makes true reform unlikely until we eliminate corporate money from politics we want to change from that will be a central. hub on the forward closing the gap between the rich and poor eradicating sky high student debt bringing accountability to wall street all major issues yet to be tackled in the us two thirds of the u.s. senate are millionaires forty five percent of the house of representatives are millionaires we have the best democracy that money can buy an actual democracy made a little more possible with the seeds sown by occupy when we show our so. courageous and united in a sense unfeeling of the response we're going to get when we have some boy march in the street. that captures americans imagination and that can help actually make

this something a movement where millions again return to the streets. the spirit of the movement still very much around one year on and stacy churkin or r.t. new york and i will have a plenty more on the one year anniversary of occupy wall street throughout the day here on our two that will be including interviews with activists and of course those who are still involved in the movement. spread world. ninety nine percent versus the one percent with all the money. are they getting in quality into the economy. the recession ahead can we afford to. be. on our team. live from the russian capital this is our. japanese demonstrations in china sparked by tokyo's decision
7:15 am
to purchase a chain of disputed islands is now forced major japanese firms to halt operations in the region factories shops and restaurants have been attacked across the country by james corbett an independent journalist a living and working in japan is here on the program to tell us more right so good to see you today can you just explain to us basically in layman's terms what's the significance of these islands and why has the ownership triggered such an extreme reaction in china against japan. it's a good question because these islands have been basically unpopulated and remain unpopulated so it's a question of what people are getting excited about and really for eight an awfully long time these islands were claimed by japan and no one really cared about it in the region until recently in the last few decades there was natural gas and oil deposits that have been estimated and believed to be near offshore of those islands and so suddenly they became quite strategic and as
7:16 am
a result in the early one nine hundred seventy s. both china and taiwan started to lay clean their own claims to those islands so they've been in sort of a diplomatic limbo of sorts for the past several decades now and the status quo has been that they're nominally belong to japan but the japanese people don't really haven't really thought about it the chinese people haven't really thought about it too much until quite recently and we've seen of course china's growing naval presence in the south china sea and in the east china sea where these islands are located and that's really started the process of having this sort of diplomatic scuffle over this and that has really boiled over in recent weeks especially when japan nationalized the islands by buying them from their private owner while i've been doing some digging up today it seems that this is quite diverse you have the audience that may not just go back decades and make about hundreds of years apparently due to some ancient maps even japanese maps suggesting these islands do actually belong to the chinese and that's going back
7:17 am
a few centuries and one question is though it we have this dispute ongoing china's marine surveillance fleet now announcing that it will increase patrols at lorton foresman in the region they have over two hundred vessels nine enforcement airplanes is it possible do you think that that both sides could a consider a dialogue to calm their response because not all which way you look at it the aggression and the tension is certainly on the up. there is going to have to be some sort of dialogue and one certainly hopes that it will come quicker because the demonstrations are starting to get out of hand in china and some some real damage is being done of course not only to to japanese interests but even to owners of japanese restaurants or people who drive japanese cars in china are now being attacked in these protests and as a result we're starting to see the mirror opposite here in japan obviously not rioting or anything of that sort but there is an increase in the right wing nationalist riving around with their loudspeakers with their anti chinese slogans that cetera so it's definitely creating increased tensions and the only way out of
7:18 am
this is for some sort of diplomatic breakthrough and it doesn't look like the two parties are really willing to come to the table at this point and in fact just recently there was one of the largest breaches of the. space around those islands by the chinese navy with six a vessel is actually true trance processing into what is considered or what your plan considers to be they're at their territory around those islands so it's definitely increasing tensions are definitely going on tensions there's no just showing no sign of this part of fading away in fact you know it never takes long various parts of the ball particularly in the far east for america to get involved just today on monday the u.s. defense secretary leon panetta saying that the u.s. and japanese officials have agreed to put a second of august missile system defense system in japan a wind out of quoting a threat from north korea others now saying it's going to be directed directly at china that's already going to help isn't it. well it's destined to inflame tensions
7:19 am
even further and absolutely the idea that this new xpand radar is going to be really aimed at north korea not to china is is about as silly as saying that the missile defense shield going up in europe is not aimed at russia i think we all know that it is express leaned at beijing and beijing this intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities which are only increasing as they continue to spend more and more on their military capabilities so it's definitely going to have. an effect in ratcheting up tensions even further and and until recently there's been a lot of the u.s. sentiment in japan in terms of getting the forces out of japan but with this recent chinese tension it might actually make the japanese want more military presence here so i don't know it's going to be a very destabilizing effect on the really our independent journalist james corbett of joining us live here on the program from osaka many thanks indeed it's good to see you think you are. right sir now here we are at odds here an independent u.n. panel has confirmed that the violence in syria is being fueled by foreign elements
