foundation great to have you all with us tonight thank you for joining us. last night romney campaign co-chair not just a shill for the party the co-chair of the romney campaign john sununu was interviewed by c.n.n.'s piers morgan morgan asked him about the news that colin powell had endorsed president obama take a listen to what's in his response was. when you take a look at colin powell you have to wonder with events in the endorsement based on issues or whether he's got a slightly different reason for preferred president obama what reason would that be well i think when you have somebody of your road race that you're proud of be president of the united states i applaud colin for standing with the. guardian sununu no way colin powell could endorse president obama on merit or policy positions now it's because they're both african-american and sununu has a history of making racially charged remarks about the president he's called a foreign he's called an un-american he's called him

where is the senate daylong seminars in the future they do this like with the union busting you know all right you guys all my employees have to come and sit in this room for eight hours and listen to this pitch because you're being paid by me so you get to listen to this this was against the law until citizens united it was explicitly against the law for an employer to use the threat of loss of employment or the carrot of here's a paycheck to promote a political message how can this be right brenda from my reading is it was an educational you milly sent to his employees saying hey if you vote for barack obama you're voting to raise your own taxes you're going to vote to force me to get rid of your pension. bad things are going to happen if the government takes a higher percentage of my money and if you lock them in a room for a whole day with with you or with. the list goes the anybody i mean or if a democratic you know if george soros locks all his employees in a room and says you voters you know here's water twenty two things you have to sit

here for two days and you think that's ok. well i don't really locked in a room i thought that was just a logical extension of what's going to really look like look here's what's going on employers are going out there and saying our economy is falling apart we're nine million jobs behind where it's not a president or said we have four years in a row a trillion dollar deficit we have one more year and we have tax hikes waiting in a new term you need to understand that our economy is going to be disturbed and we are going to have with any of those it goes out the rassmann at work he was sacked which is wrong about this is so someone goes to work and they're doing their job their mind their own business it doesn't matter what their politics are or who they're going to vote for and their boss says them an e-mail on company time and tells them you're going to lose your health care if you don't vote for mitt romney that's whole ras mitt it should be illegal it is going to go through the legal it is one of the things that citizens united did that i really think is in many ways completely blurred the line between private and political lives in this country and

it's flat out harassment you can no longer come to my desk and touch my shoulder and hit any kind of sexual harassment so why can my boss harass me about my politics or should we do now the debate that is harassment or not which i don't agree with at all or would you do a bait that you're going to have a job or not and you need to have a job we have pending tax increases we have a terrible economic it was as if he was already at your local bar you're good on real not allowed a lot of jobs you know you're ready to go and just say let's let's just stipulate on the board let's just stipulate something here had he sent a letter out saying that if taxes go up on this. corp by more than twelve percent we've done the math and with we found that we'll have to reduce wages by one percent something just you know simple there or you know there's a piece of legislation before congress that's going to affect our company i don't think we'd be having this fight but instead he said if you vote for this guy this you know bad things will happen if you vote for this guy good things are going to

happen without any evidence so you don't have a problem communicating information to them you have a problem vote for a vote for again so i actually take it farther not just employees the unemployed need to know that taxes are going up the deficit is going to grow i think we already know you're going to do you have a crystal ball that the deficits going up i mean you just know that because if you do the years they don't want you to know that i was going down in a different order we have really four years and we don't have a clue what to do that was i don't want to do when i was pretty. well you talk over each other nobody can understand it or anybody is saying so this administration doesn't have clean hands i mean they refuse to send out notices to employees of the defense department that they may be losing their job because they're not going to see sequence variation is not going to. will happen if nothing so you congress doesn't come back the lame duck it happens that's wrong that's not true it tells the kick no no i didn't say it is it is not true it sets it up for the next quarter and congress can come back two weeks into the for into the end of the new year and they can pass a law that retroactive january first and no sequence. will because all republicans

and democrats neither one of them want those cuts that's crystal ball theory we just i want to just camp because i want to turn boehner says that's what that's where a lot of sequester go right into effect and the law and even to know that you have a scene where you have people notice and they're violating the law and why don't you try to be a very very serious problems you're the house came up with the idea and make sure it passed not according to bob but first two years of congress house and senate president all controlled by d.c. that everything is or no not at all but i want to know if that is how sound is all right how were majority you know by straight on was passed under john boehner speakership first two years of my time or a snow. i'm not sure you are very similar john but there's an idea just that it's fact just under your right eye was but beyond that this this lie that the democrats controlled the senate for two years blows my mind yet sixty two months and one day until until scott brown was sworn into the seventy nine is not control there there was no immigration reform going on for two months and one year day the president had a full time to enrich senate for two months and wanted

chatterton should have been different order but i think we all figured out ok conoco phillips the oil giant and ninth largest company in the world's second largest oil company the united states announced yesterday that it made one point eight billion dollars not for the year but for the last three months in fact their income for the year seven billion dollars is profit not revenue profit what's left over after after everything despite making a staggering seven billion dollars this year the company still gets an average six hundred million dollars in tax breaks every year from the federal government this whopping tax break has allowed conoco phillips i shouldn't just a lot of actual arguably have paid for you and i with our taxes paid for the twenty million dollars that conoco phillips spent lobbying congress buying people like paul ryan six hundred dollars bottles of wine so isn't this the reason that corporations have too much influence in politics should a company making seven billion dollars really get a six hundred million dollar tax break lose no i mean this is just a little bit and it's absolutely not i mean what's amazing to me about this is that

we're arguing over whether or not we give welfare checks or any type of assistance to people who make eight dollars and ninety cents an hour but will give six hundred million dollars in tax breaks to a company that made seven billion and yet the republican sit there and say we're not owned by corporations we don't support the wealthy in this country that's completely untrue there is nothing good about what's happening with conoco phillips nothing there's a seven billion of profits six hundred million in tax breaks is criminal a simple statistic brian the amount of money welfare money that is given to corporations every year by our government is twice the amount of welfare money that is given to humans now i hear paul ryan and his budget screaming about. he gave a speech about the various say let's start cutting all this welfare to these humans because it desensitizes them but not a word about twice as much welfare going to conoco phillips and their buddies and let's get rid of corporate welfare and no more bailing out wall street no more bailing out the u.a.w. with the auto it will be a wall street dodd frank put that in the not true we're going to still on the hook

it is at no it we are not here just because it says in law you can't do it doesn't mean that the fed does not other authorities would make a bill of austria ok you're going to ignore the way when tax credit i'd love to get rid of ethanol mandates get out of the law those are giveaways to those are corporate giveaways so do you think ford import maybe let me ask you a question that a serious question if you're so if you're genuinely serious about this bernie sanders proposed some years ago i don't know if it ever made it into legislation we were talking about on the air that you know we've got so many companies around the country were states where miss palliser counties are fighting to get a factory or a headquarters that they say ok we'll give you a two hundred million dollars tax break now we'll give you a four hundred million tax you know boeing famously did this when they played three cities off each other bernie said any state that allows this to happen in their state should lose federal highway dollars would you support yeah ok i don't i don't believe in federal highway dollars going to anybody. for the well you know my position we should have zero deductions in the tax code that is government we

should be giving has so you know i'm going to go in there we shouldn't be giving discounts to go if you don't want to incentivize savings that that is not you don't you don't you know you don't want to incentivize homeownership we should not give deductions everything needed people will go out and buy or not buy on their face we shouldn't allow corporations to go and cozy up to congress and they do it on both sides of the aisle cylinder the never we never should've think it carve out deduction we never should help create the in warren buffett should not be paying seventeen percent we should have fairness across the i mean romney should not be paying fourteen either one of them we should have a uniform tax for as low as ten seconds and there's no warren buffett and mitt romney should be paying fifty percent and anybody making less. and fifty thousand dollars should be paying nothing they aren't and the bottom line is without the omega man what they really aren't saying here is that they just don't believe in government period last question it's way through our hurricane sandy is bearing down on the northeast and weather experts are saying it's a storm on president of the nature could affect sixty six million people just ahead

will again fall into indentured servitude without protections like a minimum wage and collective bargaining where our democratic institutions are so hollowed out by corporate money that they are completely unresponsive to we the people and will reside in this neo feudal state run by twenty first century robber barons all because we let when net romney win the white house in two thousand and twelve and we let him hand pick a new crop of conservative corporatist supreme court justices to reign over the united states for at least the next generation since eight hundred three when marbury vs madison gave rise to judicial review the us supreme court which was intended to be the third and least harmful of three co-equal branches of government has risen to be the ultimate authority in our government today we have nine unelected kings and queens able to create completely new laws were struck down all laws passed by congress by we the people and signed by a president elected by we the people like the oracle of delphi the supreme court

has been the final arbiter time and time again over which direction this nation moves in and today with the conservative movement more emboldened than ever to undo the new deal redefine the general welfare clause in our constitution and reverse social policy back after century in the upcoming years it may again be the high court that will have the final say in this ideological struggle and the ideology that controls that court is going to win the struggle on the left justice ruth bader ginsburg seventy nine years old justice stephen brier seventy four years old on the right justice antonin scalia seventy six years old. as is justice anthony kennedy one two maybe all four of these justices will be retiring during the next presidential administration and it will be up to either barack obama or mitt romney to pick their successors but the president is reelected will get more justices like alina kagan and sonia sotomayor who still believe that progressive reforms like

social security and medicare are constitutional they still believe the child labor laws and the minimum wage are constitutional they still believe in a woman's right to choose if mitt romney is elected we'll get justices like clarence thomas and antonin scalia who both believe all those progressive reforms just mentioned are unconstitutional and should be overturned immediately worse we'll get justices recommended by robert bork bork was reagan's nominee to the supreme court in one thousand nine hundred seventy but he was rejected by the senate because of his radical beliefs today bork is mitt romney's constitutional advisor his judicial nominees superstar adviser back in one thousand nine hundred seven at the time aborts nomination the late senator ted kennedy took to the floor of the united states senate to talk about robert bork's grim vision of america robert bork's america is

a land in which women would be forced into back out of abortions blacks which sit at segregated lunch counters broken we break down citizens' doors at midnight raids and school children could not be taught about evolution right is an artist could be censured at the whim of government. robert bork and his ilk from which mitt romney will hand pick his supreme court nominee have a radically different vision of america and the progressives who built the middle class in the twentieth century and expanded equal rights to hundreds of millions of our fellow citizens progressivism which brought us new rights like the right to protection from poverty in old age protection from sickness protection from the ravages of involuntary unemployment protection from hunger protection from discrimination you name it those progressive steps forward all hang by a thread and their fate will be determined this election while most of the focus in

the media has been on whether or not the plutocrats will pay their fair share of taxes or whether obamacare is going to be upheld or struck doubt or whether women will have access to contraceptives especially if they're raped the highest stakes are on the supreme court and which ideology will hold sway for the next few decades in that most powerful branch of our government. with just ninety days to go and fewer just days to go excuse me until this election you can vote for whoever you want but you must consider the consequences of a mitt romney presidency noam chomsky understands those consequences and suggested that those who vote in a swing state must vote in self-defense against mitt romney which means voting for barack obama noam chomsky is right we must be voting against those who wish to close the book on progress drone wars indefinite detention the growing surveillance state the war i was a blowers there are grotesque policies a started with bush and since i've been championed by this administration but these
