elite. russia's black sea coast resort of sochi is busy working towards the twenty fourteen winter olympic games the city is preparing for an event that will welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors from all across the world and when they arrive they'll be greeted by the faces of the games sochi is olympic volunteers. there are hundreds of volunteers lined up to take part in sochi twenty fourteen but it's sad to say that some of got a bit of a head start and i'm about to meet two who got a taste of the real thing at london two thousand and twelve. constantine and christina were among a very select few chosen to head over to the u.k.
6:31 pm
. just in the last year they had to become division between. us from russia. in russia have. a centrist. group for us from such an. event like competition in which skills to check our skills and. skills and other personal qualities and they learnt plenty of things that should be of great help for the sochi games but has. been trying to. prompt. to stand always so. we saw the competition with their. dance floor. by twenty forty and they could be up to twenty five thousand volunteers ready to join them in sochi so what sort of people do the organizers want. to see the kind of.
6:32 pm
your country and their friends and what you're. always so ready for. and there's no shortage of applicants wanting to prove themselves especially here in the host city. now looking off for all the visitors to sochi twenty fourteen is obviously going to be a massive job but that doesn't mean that everybody makes the cut i'm going to meet one man who thinks he's got what it takes. i mean you say you're ready for this yeah excellent nineteen year old flood is a student at sochi university and understandably he's nervous about the recruitment process my time has gone so these questions finally today. i don't know what to expect so what sort of things do you think they're looking for maybe they will ask some questions about my previous ones to wreak experienced. something like details of my private life no wild land settle down here is
6:33 pm
interview the head recruiter showed me around to university was one of just twenty six higher education facilities in russia picked as a recruitment center for more than one hundred fifty choices. many of their interviews are done over the internet but those who do come in for a face to face may just have a little luck on their side. on the seventh of february twenty twelve two years to the day before the start of the twenty fourteen olympics well at this volunteer heart and krasnaya polyana. each aspiring volunteer is asked to touch the heart to symbolize that all of their volunteer dreams will come true. and that means that the shore one hundred percent to become volunteers of the twenty fourteen olympics going to yourself. and you know you're a volunteer. feeling the love that i gave you around half an hour later it was finished and in confident mood. my previous experience in the ring
6:34 pm
my previous experience in team building things like that. so i had. a little experience so there was no problems in. this questions so confidence then. yeah i'll be wearing the volunteers by the end of the i hope so it's my dream it's going to take a while to fill all the available spots but those who are hoping to be selected a really getting into the spirit of things the olympic volunteer movement in sochi isn't just about the olympic games many of the people here want to serve their community and legacy and i'm here to see. what they're up to. in the sort of high school a group of young people are preparing for a generations for peace conference. set up by prince faisal of jordan it's an international organization dedicated to developing youth leaders. and peace building is being run by philip and pavel who are putting together
6:35 pm
a whole days of activities. everyone's must before trump's initial press conference where the organizers are hoping to get the g.s.t. message across to the media. here just for them to teach people skills conflict before these buildings they should know that the dialect is the kitchen through the preschool this was generations will teach them what these guys will still be working during the olympics with the summer type of stuff and some of them who will get. and once the local press is rolled in mind his ideas for the next few days. talking. to more. takes because. the following morning we were split up into three groups and it was time for
6:36 pm
a few bonding sessions with my new teammates. punters this is a camp the focus is strongly on the sport it wasn't long before we were moving around. so what's off limits is the key to victory and it's good. that the russian sphere. once we do have a chance to get to know each other i wanted to find out what people were hoping to take away from the camp i think a lot of graeme and i also try. to think that it actually with an option that's one skill yeah of course first of all stills. selfish. to be in or to help the people i'm so looking to eventually lead come. princes of their own are. actually what interested me the nation generation for peace. through sports
6:37 pm
and sports activities and working with people mostly with here with children. promoting tolerance is one of the central ideas behind generations for peace and many of the group exercises focus on conflict resolution by the end of the week my team will be making is this human a presentation showing how they feel they can best be achieved. i think even if it's possible to move most of the front of the. house to the pulpit and then say what issues were raised to be made to problems how could they. not be that. there are a number of seminars and question and answer sessions but there's also plenty going on outside the classroom. this is the generations for peace main goal to
6:38 pm
develop peace sustainable peace and tolerance through sports so all the delegates need support programs to be taught and they will work with children after the camp so now they will have an example. for children that they will implement off in the camp so this is extremely important and they can be many more universal sports. on their watch and. he seems like he knows what he's doing. but with the generations of pismo so being policy told him we were playing an appropriate game and philip and pavel house whole series of activities lined up for us on. this friday so you want.
6:39 pm
if you have no idea you need to ask the person there's no sleep so i say yes if you have seen about someone as my space or ok are experts so good about that but it's the bottom english should be pretty good at giving the whole away. on the focus here is i'm guessing everyone enfold strolls in competition. as a main goal of our. programs is still. to come when you kid and connect people use each other that on the one team i see nothing wrong that makes it seems and all the wanting coming it's just so be destroyed by this between two teams and so is the stereotypes that food both can play on the two teams again that's how it has been along the fascinating day of the g.s.t. campaign i couldn't wait to see what else we've got to talk.
6:40 pm

so she's generations for peace count more than twenty delegates have gathered to learn new techniques focused on peace building and making their hometown a better place some of the participants immutable until but others like the end of the world and already making a difference. in addition to my regular work i'm also engaged in volunteer activity or being at those volunteer activity is basically focused on old people and orphan
6:45 pm
children and that's our target. our volunteers take care of people who can't leave home for one race and are the other maybe they're sick or something like that for example but when we help them well go to the shop or just help out around the house or oneself. with a moment of their home visits. and see that it's so different the truth is. it's become too. late to launch a scheme to help out the people. every week the group visit different homes around sochi to make themselves useful whether it's helping out with the shopping cooking course you household chores.
6:46 pm
or your. lucky fingerprints of society this. tool. to get a hold of you for your beloved there's nothing better than an old newspaper story which is new certainly the work of the. modern cleaners here. but it's all in a good cause and for valentino that brings its own rewards. it's great to help people who need. can't help themselves. this combination of hard work and a charitable spirit is exactly the sort of thing that generations for peace is trying to encourage us of course they're always looking for more support and back at camp the delegates were learning how to ask for backing. so this is kareena presenting our pitch as to why some local leaders should join generations for peace and now she's trying to convince the audience here. public
6:47 pm
speaking is another skill that's developed on the forums encourage the participants to face their fears. i was always the same as victims. it's not large but still. but practice makes perfect and the exercises give everyone's confidence of boost and there are plenty of games to break up the day. for celebration we don't know if it was the. kids they were. in the future all the volunteers will lead activity groups for local children and they want to make them as entertaining as possible i i i'm sure that it wasn't too long before we come up with something of a special. creation
6:48 pm
a great new celebration so be expecting to see this at the premiere. or i can ensure. this is going to be close to go viral. you need something to celebrate and we all headed back to the sports field and this song i'm told is on the menu. most people here have never played softball and the emphasis is once again on learning how to games and getting everyone involved. to get. the little. plastic striking. thing the bulls we were using were actually that some.
6:49 pm
generations within a. hundred i had on the head asking me why do i need helmets so not. and brazier. and the rest of my. performance. a crushing victory for the red team. if no poor anton's had made it to be the same and there was any one thing to do after that when. i. time the rest of the campaign hit back and saw it we nearly reached the final day
6:50 pm
and i caught up with pavel to see what he thought about his delegates progress. while delegates like other programs well they want your way to so then we saw them . doing sports programs they like discussions they have passed. the training. staying here on the finish line of the camp or i can say that i'm proud of them and i like their progress. and a full everyone gets the chance to show exactly what they've learnt presentation conflict resolution. and three days. like that if that's. what it calls for. from conflict resolution we also saw presentations on creating sports programs for children of negotiation. each group used different techniques
6:51 pm
to get their points across with question and answer sessions powerpoint slide shows and plenty of games. clearly put a lot of effort in and it was well appreciated when the camp during two clues remained was to say if you. i didn't really know first of all what to expect when i came here but i think thanks to classes fantastic organization and your amazing enthusiasm i've seen a lot of people who obviously really want to make a difference to the community and it's been fantastic to me to be a part of it thank you. but i certainly wasn't the only one who'd had a memorable experience. i think the most. the most valuable thing that practice and knowledge to build. here and i feel energetic and.
6:52 pm
implemented all my knowledge and in practice unfortunately i think we did a lot of work we did our presentation our projects and our duty to create some physical activity and now i know how to do it and how did the false feel about everything. myself why a little bit because this. teaching group of people with only to train. it was a great challenge but i think we have done our best and. the program is well done and there was just enough time to create. strong memories before the camp finally closed its doors. to me. people like these so choose future it's a limpid movement seem in very safe. it was almost time for me to head home to
6:53 pm
moscow but i was going to have one last chance to watch the volunteers put the new knowledge into practice. like all the many better things to do on a sunny summer's day than to come out and play with your friends but not every parent has the time to spend to supervise them and that is what people like next year come in. every sunday they run an open play session for local children of all ages and as you can see it's pretty popular. on school russian stock called bit of a problem here and on the basis of it and i was i need to let you know suppose. that. i can tell you know by extension of. my bowling and children i'm not sure about legal but it is quite a. nasty has been
6:54 pm
working with them for more than a year and eventually wants to do it full time. for being a volunteer it's a very important occupation like many responsibilities of calming people isn't really as easy as he might think i'm studying to be a social worker and very glad to help people i really love children i'm looking forward to having my own someday and just keep on doing this kind of work. and the kids aside me hoping she does something this is the russian version of the quote blind man's buff. is the. measure of course a problem when you try to do a live show but all these children get a chance to come and play it safe place for all of them given their parents or you don't know where they are not what makes the world on the phone much is. the session goes on for several hours even if they're a one or two bumps and bruises at the end everyone has a great time. but it's not all fun and games it's very educational so. i can swim
6:55 pm
so she can swim. my name at least. knows what. all those people feel. safe by everybody safe by way of the camera safe. with english conversations like that to enjoy how could i not feel at home with the olympics coming up i spent a good chunk of the summer seeing what was going on in and around sochi but meeting the volunteers and working with g.f.p. have been the best part of all i really only an experience. i met so many highly motivated young people in the last few days it's been quite humbling to be part of it the volunteers who really do want to make a better place and that means even though the winter games are still a way away the olympic spirit is definitely alive and well.
