barack obama to stay in the white house for four more years saying come and do as president is projected to secure two hundred seventy electoral votes after an extraordinarily tight race. right now you're looking at live pictures from mitt romney's headquarters who's now conceded defeat he's currently giving a brief speech. where the u.s. having made its choice so we look at how diverted might affect america's ties with the rest of the world. also the regularities very suppression then long queues are reported during the polls sparking claims of a rigged election.

you're watching r t a live from moscow with me tom won't say our top story the biggest electoral intrigue of this year is drawing to a close with u.s. president barack obama set to stay in office for a second term. america's incumbent leader is extending his the lead in what's been a close race his victory looks shorter as a number of key battleground states are leaning his way artie's going on it as you can is in washington now following the vote for us they are they are how are things are looking right now obviously for a raise. right will catch up with diana in the next couple

hours for more details right richard spencer. and the editor of alternative right to dot com says tied to voting results reflect deep divisions within the united states in america demographics or is destiny and i think in some ways what this election represented was a demographic model or a demographic snapshot of what this nation is it's a nation that starkly divided in many ways between hope and rule white people in the red states. blue states non-whites and liberal and of upper income whites there seems to be a very very stark divide demographics aside that if you look at the ruling order in the united states there seems to be a great deal of stability brock obama kind of painted himself as his kind of left wing in a way changed let's shake everything up at the end of the day he bailed out banks or as he bailed out wall street he wound down some stupid wars like the iraq war
1:03 am
but he wound up some what on a smaller but equally stupid wars and libya and elsewhere so i think essentially there's less sadly there's really a great deal of stability between these two parties and the sooner they're going to wake up to that the better in my opinion. right we now have gannett she can live with us now from washington how are things looking right now in this fiercely fought face. well we just heard mitt romney conceding he accepted his loss basically president obama now has three hundred three electoral votes and he needs just two hundred seventy to win mitt romney is behind with two hundred three electoral votes quite impossible for him to catch up at this point those are the latest projections there and although it was a very close race in some of the swing states like ohio for example florida and
1:04 am
we're waiting for a more. solid numbers to come in but if you words about how people voted that there were long lines of very long queues at polling stations especially in swing states there was something admirable about those long lines in the peoples' urge to vote with this year one could see that the euphoria that was there four years ago when president obama was running for his first term was not quite there anymore it's not that his supporters were not excited they are they were but it's more of a relief than euphoria so there's the excitement but it's different from what it was four years ago that there has been quite a bit of disappointment the economy is not recovering this fast as people would want it to to the obama campaign's argument is that he inherited such a disaster in terms of the economy that the process couldn't possibly go faster but again a lot of it has to do with very high expectations for president obama when he took
1:05 am
office but when he got down to down to business it turned out that the congress was standing in the way of some of these robots reforms and all the obstacles and the reality of the day sort of came to light just a few months ago the president the president's job approval rating was barely above forty percent is different now of course with the argument is that maybe the euphoria is not there but that people were simply scared of mitt romney's. aggressive way rhetoric and they saw mitt romney as someone who's kind of out of touch with the middle class and the obama campaign has been successfully making that argument as well as the argument that mitt romney would be like the second coming of george w. bush with more wars on america's plate and possibly another disastrous economic meltdown more on the celebration and the expectations of the obama voters here is
1:06 am
my report. and the winner. who lawn excitement here the white house the main pledge of president obama's campaign has been to bring back the shrinking middle class and made the economy slow recovery and gigantic deficit at a time when the gap between the rich and the poor is as high as ever in america i want to give middle class families and folks who are striving to get in the middle class some relief. because they have been hit hard the president has blamed congress for his inability to implement a more robust plan to help out the middle class president obama's claim that he's being handcuffed by republican lawmakers in his plan to dramatically cut taxes for middle income americans does not hold the vast majority of americans and our entire economy hostage while we debate the merits of another tax cut for the wealthy and skeptics argue there is no reason to believe congress will give the president an easier ride in his second term however president obama had no problem with congress
1:07 am
when he signed into law the controversial legislation which allows for the detention of american citizens for indefinite periods of time without charge in due process and you don't pull the trail of our civil liberties that the president has assumed a dictatorial rights to put us in prison at his pleasure without charge or without trial and congress did not stand in the president's way when he was increasing military spending here after a year something he almost bragged about during the debate on foreign policy our military spending has gone up every single year that i've been in office. the actions of the administration overseas in the last four years have indicated that the president is party in favor of military interventions but is the clear strategy is to stay away from fighting ground wars to opt for more hit and run style
1:08 am
interventions like the one executed in libya. syria the administration indicate that they would like to intervene more actively but for now syria just seems too complicated and washington cannot count on a desirable outcome for us to get more in tangled militarily in syria is a serious step and we have to do so making absolutely certain that we know who we are helping that we're not putting arms in the hands of folks who eventually could turn them against. us or our allies in the region having spent one hundred billion dollars in this election campaign brock obama is america's commander in chief again . president obama will be sworn into office in january something his supporters are very excited about their hopes and expectations include jobs no more devastating wars and no more financial meltdowns there was a good number of people who voted for barack obama because they were voting against mitt romney seeing him as more aggressive especially when it comes to foreign policy and seemingly out of touch with middle class america and

a lot of people they don't see a choice at all in the selection in washington i'm going to check on. arches than it can in our washington studios i'm sure lots of people will be asking some of those questions that you raised in your package. ride with obama germain in the white house the question now is how washington will develop its relations with the rest of the world let's talk about this with iraqis you've got peace cannot live in moscow for us you go to there's been a general feeling around the globe that obama is less hawkish than romney when it comes to international relations so how does the prospect of the u.s. ties with russia look them with the election result in. well on one hand a bomb is used by many as the engine behind the reset of relations with moscow and the biggest achievement of that is definitely the new strategic arms reduction treaty obama is also knowledge of bursley support of russia's accession into the world trade organization but on the other hand the key stumbling blocks in the
1:10 am
relations are still there like washington's plans for the anti missile defense system in europe that's a major irritation factor for the kremlin there's also the so-called money skill list of russian officials who are banned from entering the united states and of course the deadlock at the u.n. security council over syria so all of that has led many analysts to go west and how successful that this reset relations really has been in fact many analysts say that obama's already done everything he could when it comes to russia and the republicans simply won't let him do too much more but i guess it's really a question of what sort of heritage mr obama would like to leave after himself since this is going to be his second and final term in office. here sororities you got a piece going to be arching out for more details on that thank you for that. but i will have more live reports and malices over the next few hours from the middle east and europe on how the u.s.
1:11 am
election results might affect the situation in those parts of the world but some experts already say that for the rest of the world in terms of washington's foreign policy it wouldn't have made much difference who won. there'd be very little difference between a republican or a democrat as we can see from president obama's policy of covertly funding syrian rebels and do you know about assassinations in tehran on their own streets of academics we don't know but what we do know is american democracy works with. a massive elite force money what is obama promising in this kind of vague idea of constructive engagement world all the time supporting the. terrorists we know president obama has been actively courting along with the secretary of state be relevant in the rebellion in syria and of course supporting all sorts of elements in libya so how many really who would you be thinking that president obama or

president romney would be different when it came to foreign policy i don't know where they get tougher. ride an update on the latest results of these are preliminary figures spurlock obama has three hundred and three electoral college votes and mitt romney currently stands at two hundred and six what you're looking at now is those are live shots actually coming from the democrat headquarters where president elect again president obama will give his. his that stepped in speech in a moment we'll of course bring you more of that of what he says in a few minutes. roger a number of organizational floors and varied violations along with huge choose at polling stations have been a whole mark of the election process blogger brad friedman says the problem is up assistant once in u.s. democracy. i was just looking at

a video report out of south carolina where you had a woman who said i've been here four hours and i can't wait any longer i'm leaving they said oh well it's only going to be another hour i got to tell you you know no matter what the cause is i believe this is a national disgrace at this point these lines that we're seeing three four six nine hours to vote we saw that in in ohio certainly in two thousand and four you would think we would be beyond that now clearly we're not and in many ways this seems to be getting worse we're also getting reports from all over particularly in philadelphia long time voters going to the same polling place they've been going to bring yours and all of a sudden they're no longer on the voting rolls today they have to vote provisionally so something is going on that you know we may not fully come to understand until the days and the weeks after this election when we can fully sort

behind me later on whedon's day and right here where i'm standing on syntagma square is where thousands of demonstrators are expected to gather in order to show their displeasure for what is expected to be thirteen point five billion euros worth of cuts and savings forced upon them now the reason that that thirteen point five billion will be voted for is because it's being demanded off by greece's three main creditors and the reason that they're demanding of it is because the creditors the troika as they're called have said that if greece doesn't cut massively the late don't get the next round of bailout money and the question remains that has to be asked if this is voted for will that be enough political support in greece in order to enact these cuts prime minister antonis samaras has promised the greek people that this will be the final round of belt tightening however been a geologist the terror is
