a cap and that's when we had. the biggest top tax rate reduction that i can never remember. if social security would not have been kept at that time we wouldn't even be talking about where the money is coming from had the money not been touched and been allowed to earn interest over the last thirty years the money that is earned over all of that time could be paying for i believe all future social security retirees and in fact if factored out could actually create a reduction in the contribution but it goes back to the fact they could also pay for them at least have been there never should have been a cap in the first place yes i totally agree with you there and appreciate your pointing that out the the rationale for the cap was that there's a cap on the benefits that you can get back out so let's put a cap on what has to be paid in it was kind of a sop to rich people and it's absurd frankly social security is not

a retirement program it's not an investment fully a third of also security payments go to literally widows orphans and disabled people so security is an insurance program it is old age poverty insurance and it is disaster insurance for everybody if you're fifteen years old if you're twenty five years old or thirty five it doesn't matter how old you are if you become disabled social security will catch you and hold you for the rest of your life and that's a pretty powerful thing everybody should be paying into a because we're all members of the society pam in falls church virginia hey pam what's up having thanksgiving happy thanksgiving all of you i want to reiterate you're so great on so many issues but the discussion about social security i don't think we're ever going to get rid of the permanently embedded term entitlement which is really misconstrued but what i meant what you said previously so many times i don't think people quite grasp is that. younger children

it's a parent. those funds can go towards their upbringing and support and i had a situation in my own family where my step brother and sister were four and seven years old when their father passed from a heart condition is early thirty's and that supplemented their growth in their mother who wasn't employed at the time and also we had a good friend a few years ago who passed away suddenly at age forty nine with a seven year old son who was able to claim his father's history benefits and i don't think people maybe over twenty one might realize that they might be in that situation someday with younger oh yeah. it has the potential if you are disabled in your twenty's this is a two or three million dollars bonus policy you have that will take care of you for the rest of your life i appreciate your pointing that out and putting the punctuation mark on it as i said fully a third of all social security benefits are not going to retire people they're

in the best of the rest of the news thanksgiving is tomorrow but more americans are likely focused on the next day the busiest shopping day of the year black friday and it's not only bargain hunters looking forward to friday it's also employees of the nation's largest retailer wal-mart who are planning to hold a mass day of action to raise awareness of the retail giant's labor abuses jamie now for more on the implications of a black friday strike at wal-mart is josh eidelson labor journalist and contributing writer to the nation salon and in these times josh welcome to the program thanks for having me back to be things giving it all thank you and happy

thanksgiving to you it's great to have you back with us public publicly wal-mart has dismissed these strikes as antics by fringe workers behind closed doors what are they really saying. so behind closed doors first know that warmer doesn't pay for anything it doesn't have to and wal-mart is paying workers to sit in captive audience meetings those are mandatory meetings where workers are required to listen as managers. or read a script telling them why they shouldn't participate on black friday i interviewed a worker for the nation who said that the manager read a script that said these actions workers participating in these strikes on friday could cut into the company's profits and hurt the workers bonuses so as this worker said to me in oklahoma this doesn't sound like the company doesn't worry about what's happening on friday is wal-mart engaging in any illegal behavior to suppress striking workers is is there not

a law against forcing people to sit and listen to you no ransom indoctrination. there is not a law against forcing people to sit in listen to reinstate indoctrination and it's a reminder that a lot of what we think of as first amendment rights only exist under laws protections from government not protections for management in the workplace there are things that wal-mart is doing that if true if allegations are true are completely illegal like directly threatening workers that they could be disciplined for participating in legal strikes or firing workers because they've participated in legal strikes in i've talked to numerous workers who credibly argue that it's happened to learn or it's happened to their coworkers in fact i argue at the nation that wal-mart's labor board charge fired at the end of last week at the national labor relations board primarily maybe not about getting the government to intervene but just sending a message to the workers that these strikes they've heard are illegal might not be

safe in wal-mart might be able to get away with firing them if they participate. optimistically what sort of actions are we likely to see day after tomorrow friday . so organizers have promised in the week leading up to and including black friday to have a thousand strikes in actions around the country so some will be strike some will be rallies or flash moms there have been major actions in the past in areas like southern california where one store almost a third of the workforce went out on strike last month and we'll see numerous support from occupy activists from folks who a national organization of women relational consumer really from local labor groups what no one can really know until it happens and organizers say and i believe them they don't know exactly how many wal-mart retail workers are going to take that risk and come out on strike but i expect that we will see something dramatic larger

then the already historic straits that we saw last month and the minute we have left josh what do you think is going to happen after black friday before. i don't think we should expect any kind of quick resolution wal-mart will continue to claim not to care based on history will continue to try to suppress workers' activism zz having talked to a lot of these worker leaders they're going to continue they're going to continue to fight so what will see is escalation the question is how do you escalate and i think part of this group success has been organizing workers to take on issues in their local store that exemplify the national issues with wal-mart's business model i expect they'll continue to do that as well as dramatic national actions or thoughts let's hope that this leads to some democracy in the workplace rather than just these kingdoms and fiefdoms here josh thanks so much for being with us tonight thank you town great to see.

when the corporate elite tells us we need to be afraid of something they usually expect to make some money off our fear the latest threat they're hyping goes by the name of agenda twenty one which is so happens to be the title of glenn beck's new disc topik novel billed as more frightening than anything or well it could have envisioned beck's agenda twenty one paints a disturbing picture of america following the implementation of the united nations agenda twenty one which is actually a real life u.n. initiative though not nearly as nefarious as back we have a soft. the book which of course is a novel it's fiction it's made up stuff the tagline reads this used to be called america now it's just the republic there is no president no congress no freedom

there is only agenda twenty one on the internet you can watch a movie trailer made specifically for the book featuring grizzled americans lining up on the streets in a post soviet style winter landscape reeking of desperation waiting for tiny morsels of food to be parceled out by the authorities reminiscent of both nazi comics concentration camps and the book of revelation everyone's forehead is tattooed with identification numbers and in an all macho to sarah palin's death panels one scene in the trailer depicts in a macy aged scraggly here old man loaded onto a conveyor belt and sent into a burning furnace of course this is all fiction or the like him or not beck has made a fortune off sensationalism and more recently televangelism and this book will tap into a wellspring of paranoia on the fringe right that undoubtedly is going to make a lot more money for mr multi-millionaire glenn beck. but whether back really

believes in this depicted agenda twenty one future for america is all that important what's important is that a lot of other powerful people have bought this hook line and sinker to them there's nothing fictional at all when it comes to agenda twenty one for example on october eleventh of this year the georgia state capitol building hosted a four hour briefing for republican state senators on the issue of agenda twenty one it was emceed by a man named field seriously who according to mother jones is a local conservative activist whose tea party leadership was revoked after endorsing birth her and truth are conspiracy theories serious he told the georgia republicans and later told me on my radio show that mr obama is using a mind control procedure known as the delphi technique to slowly condition americans to submit to the control of the united nations agenda twenty one which

will according to seriously force mass migrations of americans out of the countryside end of the cities while handing over control of our rural lands to an international one world government the goal of the presentation was to influence georgia lawmakers to follow in the footsteps of tennessee and kentucky republican lawmakers who've already passed legislation to block agenda twenty one from being implemented in their states as if anybody wanted to also on the fear agenda twenty one bandwagon is newly elected tea party senator from texas ted cruz. ted cruz says they're coming for the golf courses oh no not the golf courses luckily for the golfing community ted cruz is headed to the united states senate to stop george soros and the u.n. from confiscating augusta national though hopefully somebody will tell cruz perhaps by removing his tinfoil hat that the united nations has no interest whatsoever in

turning augusta national into a sustainable biodome likewise hopefully somebody will tell mr field seriously that the un has no interest in forcibly removing americans from the countryside either here's what agenda twenty one actually really is it stands for agenda twenty first century it's a completely non-binding un agreement non-binding it's not a law that addresses climate change and any quality by laying out ways the local and federal governments non-governmental organizations and businesses can create more sustainable environments in their respective nations that's it some suggestions but as you'd expect about a plan to reduce poverty and use resources and land in more eco friendly ways the wealthy oil barons in the bank's toure's are opposed to it when people governments organizations talk about things like sustainable energy corporate responsibility

educating the world's children billionaires like the koch brothers get a little nervous so right wingers have employed their best charlatans of american people like glenn beck to reinvent agenda twenty one is something completely different an affair is plot by global communists to force redistribution of wealth and confiscation of private property and ultimately do for our american sovereignty . and it just so happens that legislation passed in the mentioned earlier that in tennessee and kentucky to block agenda twenty one and that legislation comes straight from model legislation produced by the tory asli loony yet very well funded john birch society the koch brothers dad after all freddy koch if we had no problem with state controlled economies when he made his fortune working with joe stalin the soviet union was one of the founding members of the john birch society back in one nine hundred fifty eight the un has provided right wing fear mongers a lot of grandstanding opportunities over the years but the un has never lived up
