10:31 pm
does the corporate elite profit off of an answer in tonight's deleted. welcome to your take my take a live our phone lines are now open so if you want your opinion make a comment ask a question live on the air answer the question you know what are you thankful for to morrow's thanksgiving i'm thankful for family friends for for this show for you watching give us a call at two o two nine zero four twenty one thirty four so let's pick up our first caller the night robert mount vernon indiana a robert what's up. thank you and the same to you are like you're still in the third or what they left i don't know what. so what what are you calling about. because.
10:32 pm
i'm not i'm not appreciate the comment and the perspective on it i'm upset about how much members of congress are paid i think members of the house make hundred sixty thousand a year and members of the senate make a little two hundred. they have to maintain a home here in d.c. and in their district they've got to travel a lot they've got a lot of expenses it is not an easy life although that is still a heck of a lot of money for the average person frankly far more concerned about the corrosive influence of millions tens of millions hundreds of millions billions of dollars that are sloshing around outside of rational salaries that's my big concern and we need to do something about that to fix that go to move to amend or mike.
10:33 pm
thanks for calling what's on your mind. tom are you doing what's up i want to say one of the greatest curses on this topic. i guess ok second really. quick. is the fact they're all really. talk that if they don't believe in their religion. they get to. appreciate your perspective but let me for the record say not all religions teach that i don't know of any wars that have ever been declared in the name of buddha for example and i think that you would find the american friends service. the quakers very different. i'm not sure they'd call it a religion the universal is very different. church of christ allen in seattle
10:34 pm
hailing what's on your mind. happy thanksgiving. i want to talk about the possibility that the turd blossom called rob was trying to steal the election and that the activist group anonymous possibly stopped them. heard about. fox news so after you talked about this matter i went and watched it and i found it very interesting that when he was saying well wait wait wait right now there's only one hundred vote difference he said but right now apparently the secretary of state's server is crashed because i can't refreshed my screen. very interesting and in line with your theory that possibly anonymous put a trap door in there and stopped him yeah i think so too and it makes
10:35 pm
a lot of sense to me i mean and may or may not be the case the fact of the and i appreciate you raising the issue thank you very much for the call i think that the the bigger issue here is not did karl rove try or not try in two thousand and twelve steal the election the way that they did in twenty in two thousand and four by running all the boat tabulators or all the votes out of ohio through chattanooga tennessee and then back into ohio after the numbers have been the sized the bigger question is why is such a thing even possible we privatized that's insane for profit corporations particularly those affiliated with karl rove should not be counting our votes whether it's in the individual level or whether it's at the tabulator state level should not be happening stephen norristown pennsylvania steve thanks for calling was on your mind tonight. tom i echo everything that everybody is saying but i just want to point out going back to the social security issue in the year one nine hundred eighty two always crops up because that's the year that we had
10:36 pm
a doubling of the contribution to social security for those up to a captain come and that's when we had the biggest top tax rate reduction that i can ever remember. if social security would not have been kept at that time we wouldn't even be talking about where the money is coming from had that money not been touched and been allowed to earn interest over the last thirty years the money that is earned over all of that time could be paid for i believe all future social security retirees and in fact is factored out could actually create a reduction in the contribution but it all goes back to the fact they could also face so many have been there never should have been a cap in the first place yeah i totally agree with you then and appreciate your pointing that out the the rationale for the cap was that there's a cap on the benefits that you can get back out so let's put
10:37 pm
a cap on what has to be paid in it was kind of a sop to rich people and it's absurd frankly you know social security is not a retirement program it's not an investment fully a third of also security payments go to literally widows orphans and disabled people social security is an insurance program it is old age poverty insurance and it is disaster insurance for everybody if you're fifteen years old if you're twenty five years old at thirty five it doesn't matter how old you are if you become disabled social security will catch you and hold you for the rest of your wife and that's a pretty powerful thing everybody should be paying into a because we're all members of the society pam falls church virginia a pam what's up having thanksgiving happy thanksgiving today i'm going to reiterate you're so great on so many issues all this is the discussion about social security i don't think we're ever. we're going to get rid of the permanently invented term entitlement which is really misconstrued but what i meant what you said previously so many times i don't think people quite grasp is that. younger
10:38 pm
children if a parent dies those funds can go towards their upbringing and support and i had a situation in my own family where my step brother and sister were four and seven years old when their father passed from a heart condition is early thirty's and that supplemented their growth in their mother who wasn't employed at the time and also we had a good friend a few years ago who passed away suddenly at age forty nine with a seven year old son who was able to claim his father's to security benefits and i don't think people maybe over twenty one might realize that they might be in that situation someday with younger oh yeah. it has the potential if you are disabled in your twenty's this is a two or three million dollars from this policy that you have that will take care of you for the rest of your life i appreciate your pointing that out and putting a punctuation mark on it as i said fully a third of all social security benefits are not going to retire people they're
10:39 pm
going to disabled people and that's not a bad thing that's a good thing for all of us in the society it means that we don't have to walk down the street and see people like you like you will in india i have you walk down the street and there's there's a guy with no legs sitting on a on a push cart with his begging bowl out that's not that's not what we have in america in large part because of so security frank in chicago hey frank welcome to the program thanks for calling happy thanksgiving. thank you tom happy thanksgiving to thanks my what i have to say if some people are. minimum wage. millions of dollars i agree i have to agree and frank i really appreciate pointing that out because this is this is the point that i keep making as a actually as a couple pieces to. the job creators of the people who are spending the money and people at the bottom of the economic people who are making minimum wage they spend all of their money so they're the biggest of the job creators and then if we raise
10:40 pm
the minimum wage we stimulate the economy because they're spending that money and see going back to read social security i would suggest that we actually if we lowered the retirement age for social security medicare from sixty five to fifty five you'd have millions of people who would leave the job market opening up space for young people which would be an incredible stimulus for our economy especially if they were making a decent minimum wage twelve dollars and fifty cents an hour david in richmond virginia a david what's up. i'm a small business. lawn maintenance company who do a million dollars a year about. i do agree with you getting more money into the hands of the low end wage because they spend everything and getting a tax cut to people making million dollars it's not going to be additional spending i have to disagree with you on the two year minimum wage raising argument because the fact is i'm saying it's from a small point of view if a guy actually number of yards per day he's worth x. y. number of dollars if a guy mo's less than that fewer than that he's not worth the same number of dollars
10:41 pm
now i start off as i said i'm sure. well in the end whether you're paying a piece rate or whether you take a flat hourly wage you have to have a certain expectation of production that person if the person is not producing a certain level he's not worth a certain number of dollars to be honest if you give me somebody at one dollar per hour and he's not producing a wage rate hourly rate he's not producing a minimum number of lawns i came afford to keep him on the on the payroll so the fact is there's something. fairly simple you know i appreciate a perspective on this but there's a fairly simple piece of math here and that is that if you can figure out a business model if you can charge enough to justify those those wages then maybe you should try a different business charles in west chester pennsylvania a charles what's up. thanks i got some bad news recently from horizon to your on channel four seventy eight and they're going to drop you in
10:42 pm
december and. some are. in charge i have and i appreciate your calling but i just can't speak to that i don't know anything about that tim in pine island florida we have a little less than a minute left him let's try a quick one here come real quick. and what do you do about the hostess twinkies debacle that vulture capitalism as you said the banks there's some has to be done i was a victim and one thing i can't understand it in this bankruptcy proceeding. liquidation all the workers aren't even. for that back vacation. now and they're losing and many of them are losing what has to be done then we need to change we need to change our laws that have to do and i appreciate you calling tim we need to change the way that businesses can be acquired businesses can go into bankruptcy we need to change those laws that's if
10:43 pm
you take my take live thanks for all your calls if we didn't get your call tonight tries back next week. after the break there's something you need to know before you rush out for all the shopping deals on this black friday as a major libor strike will meet all the details coming up next. with the. science technology innovation all the list of elements from around russia we've got the future covered.
10:44 pm
10:45 pm
in the best of the rest of the news thanksgiving is tomorrow but more americans are likely focused on the next day the busiest shopping day of the year black friday and it's not only bargain hunters looking forward to friday it's also employees of the nation's largest retailer wal-mart who are planning to hold a mass day of action to raise awareness of the retail giant's labor abuses joining me now for more on the implications of a black friday strike at wal-mart is josh eidelson labor journalist and contributing writer to the nation salon and in these times josh welcome to the program thanks for having me back to be thanksgiving well thank you and happy thanksgiving to you it's great to have you back with us public publicly wal-mart has dismissed these strikes as antics by fringe workers behind closed doors what are they really saying. so behind closed doors first know that warmer doesn't pay
10:46 pm
for anything it doesn't have to and wal-mart is paying workers to sit in captive audience meetings those are mandatory meetings where workers are required to listen as managers freely or read a script telling them why they shouldn't participate on black friday i interviewed a worker for the nation who said that the manager read a script that said these actions workers participating in these strikes on friday could cut into the company's profits and hurt the workers bonuses so as this worker said to me in oklahoma this doesn't sound like the company doesn't worry about what's happening on friday is wal-mart engaging in any illegal behavior to suppress striking workers is is there not a law against forcing people to sit and listen to you no ransom indoctrination. there is not a lot against forcing people to sit and listen to reince and indoctrination and it's a reminder that a lot of what we think of as first amendment rights only exist under laws
10:47 pm
protections from government not protections for management in the workplace there are things that wal-mart is doing that if true if allegations are true are completely illegal like directly threatening workers that they could be disciplined for participating in legal strikes or firing workers because they've participated in legal strikes him i've talked to numerous workers who credibly argue that it's happened to learn or it's happened to their coworkers in fact i argue at the nation that wal-mart's labor board charge fired at the end of last week at the national labor relations board primarily maybe not about getting the government to intervene but just sending a message to the workers that these strikes they've heard are illegal might not be safe in wal-mart might be able to get away with firing them if they participate. optimistically what sort of actions are we likely to see day after tomorrow friday . so organizers have promised in the week leading up to and including black friday
10:48 pm
to have a thousand strikes in actions around the country so some will be strike some will be rallies or flash mobs there have been major actions in the past in areas like southern california where one store almost a third of the workforce went out on strike last month and we'll see numerous support from occupy activists from folks who anational organization of women relational consumer really from local labor groups what no one can really know until it happens and organizers say and i believe them they don't know exactly how many wal-mart retail workers are going to take that risk and come out on strike but i expect that we will see something dramatic larger than the already historic strikes that we saw last month and the minute we have left josh what do you think is going to happen after black friday with the. i don't think we should expect any
10:49 pm
kind of quick resolution wal-mart will continue to claim not to care based on history will continue to try to suppress workers activism zz having talked to a lot of these worker leaders they're going to continue they're going to continue to fight so what will see is escalation the question is how do you escalate and i think part of this group success has been organizing workers to take on issues in their local store that exemplify the national issues where it's business model i expect they'll continue to do that as well as dramatic national actions or thoughts let's hope that this leads to some democracy in the workplace rather than just these kingdoms and fiefdoms here josh thanks so much for being with us tonight thank you it's great to see you.
10:50 pm
on the corporate elite tells us we need to be afraid or somethin. they usually expect to make some money off our fear the latest threat they're hyping goes by the name of agenda twenty one which is so happens to be the title of glenn beck's new dystopian novel billed as more frightening than anything or well it could have envisioned beck's agenda twenty one paints a disturbing picture of america following the implementation of the united nations agenda twenty one which is actually a real life u.n. initiative though not nearly as nefarious as back we have a saw. the book which of course is a novel it's fiction it's made up stuff the tagline reads this used to be called america now it's just the republic there is no president no congress no freedom there is only agenda twenty one on the internet you can watch a movie trailer made specifically for the book featuring grizzled americans lining up on the streets in a post soviet style winter landscape reeking of desperation waiting for tiny
10:51 pm
morsels of food to be parceled out by the authorities reminiscent of both nazi comics concentration camps and the book of revelation everyone's foreheads tattooed with identification numbers and in an all macho to sarah palin's death panels one scene in the trailer depicts in a macy aged scraggly hearable man loaded onto a conveyor belt and sent into a burning firms of course this is all fiction but they like him or not beck has made a fortune off sensationalism and more recently televangelism and this book will tap into a well spring of paranoia on the fringe right that undoubtedly is going to make a lot more money for mr multi-millionaire glenn beck. but whether back really believes in this depicted agenda twenty one future for america is all that important what's important is that a lot of other powerful people have bought this hook line and sinker to them there's nothing fictional at all when it comes to agenda twenty one for example on
10:52 pm
october eleventh of this year the georgia state capitol building hosted a four hour briefing for republican state senators on the issue of agenda twenty one it was emceed by a man named field seriously who according to mother jones is a local conservative activist who's tea party leadership was revoked after endorsing berthier and truth are conspiracy theories serious he told the georgia republicans and later told me on my radio show that mr obama is using a mind control procedure known as the delphi technique to slowly condition americans to submit to the control of the united nations agenda twenty one which will according to seriously force mass migrations of americans out of the countryside end of the cities while handing over control of our rural lands to an international one world government the goal of the presentation was to influence georgia lawmakers to follow in the footsteps of tennessee and kentucky republican
10:53 pm
lawmakers who've already passed legislation to block agenda twenty one from being implemented in their states as if anybody wanted to also on the fear agenda twenty one bandwagon is newly elected tea party senator from texas ted cruz. ted cruz says they're coming for the golf courses oh no not the golf courses luckily for the golfing community ted cruz is headed to the united states senate to stop george soros and the u.n. from confiscating our gust of national though hopefully somebody will tell cruz perhaps by removing his tin foil hat that the united nations has no interest whatsoever in turning augusta national into a sustainable biodome likewise hopefully somebody will tell mr field seriously that the un has no interest in forcibly removing americans from the countryside either here's what agenda twenty one actually really is it stands for agenda twenty first
10:54 pm
century it's a completely non-binding un agreement non-binding it's not a law that addresses climate change and any quality by laying out ways the local and federal governments non-governmental organizations and businesses can create more sustainable environments in their respective nations that's it some suggestions but as you'd expect about a plan to reduce poverty and use resources and land in more eco friendly ways the wealthy oil barons in the banks toure's are opposed to it when people governments organizations talk about things like sustainable energy corporate responsibility educating the world's children billionaires like the koch brothers get a little nervous so right wingers have employed their best charlatans of american people like glenn beck to reinvent agenda twenty one is something completely different an affair is plot by global communists to force redistribution of wealth
10:55 pm
the office creation of private property and ultimately do for our american sovereignty. and it just so happens that legislation passed in the mentioned earlier that in tennessee and kentucky to block agenda twenty one and that legislation comes straight from model legislation produced by the tory asli loony yet very well funded john birch society the koch brothers dead after all freddy koch if you had no problem with state controlled economies when he made his fortune working with joe stalin the soviet union was one of the founding members of the john birch society back in one nine hundred fifty eight the un has provided right wing fearmonger is a lot of grandstanding opportunities over the years but the un has never lived up to their warnings that it's coming to destroy america and while the bircher billionaire class continues to fret about the un they stay silent about the actual threat to our nation's sovereignty which takes the form of the world trade organization which is in forced free trade agreements through international courts
10:56 pm
that have overturned laws passed by our elected congress and signed by our elected president for example laws banning the importation of the united states of poised of poisonous additives to gasoline or products made by child labor or tuna caught at the expense of dolphins all of these laws american laws have been overturned by the one world government made up mostly of big transnational corporations that is the deputy oh yet not a peep from that same wealthy elite who are all freaked out about and warning us about agenda twenty one. why well because there's a lot of money to be made in so-called free trade and not so much money to be made in promoting sustainable living same is true why glenn beck isn't writing a book about the sixty seven trillion dollar global shadow banking system which is extremely dangerous to our sovereign economy yet it's making billions of dollars
10:57 pm
for the banks toure's point is the latest scheme by the corporate elite to scare the hell out of all of us with agenda twenty one is just like every other scare tactic by the corporate elite it's meant to distract us it's a sleight of hand technique to keep us focused on looking and while their ranks of texas oilmen outsourcing c.e.o.'s are wall street banks toure's carry out the true destruction of the united states the pillaging of the middle class at home and the construction of a w t o one world corporate government to promote unfettered capitalism and so-called free trade everywhere on the planet and in the process useful quacks like glenn beck and field services to make a lot of money feeding the paranoid fox news watching masses their latest conspiracy theories and that's the way it is tonight wednesday point november twenty first two thousand and twelve don't forget democracy begins when you get out there get active tag you're it happy thanksgiving.
