nationwide action in egypt with thousands of outraged protesters in cairo keeping pressure on the president to cancel his power grab in clashes with police reportedly leave one protest a day. after years of uncertainty palestinians could finally find out what killed their leader yasser arafat his grave has been open. for clues about whether he was poisoned. also explosive politics a former u.k. defense minister says dropping a neutron bomb could bring peace to one of the world's most troubled regions. and another diverted to the. cash for greece. in exchange for.
1:01 pm
on air online live from the new center here in moscow this is a nationwide protests have kicked off in egypt with thousands gathering in tahrir square to oppose president morsi latest decree morsi made himself and the islamist dominated upper house of parliament immune to any kind of oversight including from the courts true reports from. behind me there's several hundred thousand people into korea and it protests that people are saying one of the largest they've seen really in most of the year and people are chanting against the muslim brotherhood and people a chance against this very contentious constitutional declaration which awarded the president's sweeping powers we've also seen protests across the country in different governorates against this constitution constitution that peroration as
1:02 pm
well as different sectors of society we had protests at a march today by the journalist in the case who had joined us in korea in addition judges themselves states in protest and lawyers so really we've seen protests across the country against this document in addition to has been small the protests in support of the president and his decree largely i headed up by the embassy by the head an islamist parties like to stand offish calling out to conservative orthodox to islamic very often alexandria the president announced after having crisis talks with the judiciary that said he would stand by his constitutional declaration and wouldn't step down he said that it wasn't an infringement on their additional authority or that he failed to actually give any reasons why not is the case the muslim brotherhood was supposed to hold that process today in tahrir square which they then moved outside of the square because their fears of bloodshed guy went pro and anti brotherhood supporters man they actually ended up canceling
1:03 pm
that because of pressure from people saying that they really would be a lot of violence on the streets if the brotherhood came down to this is really the only reaction we've seen from the presidential office and he said during their mission brotherhoods. and khaled fahmy editor of the all the newspapers says people see morsi is later sacked as the beginning of a new dictatorship. this. divide egypt and even. civil war unfortunately this president is doing the very same things for which. before. dictatorship this is what we are looking. people. looking at this crowd you cannot tell who is muslim or christian who is liberal
1:04 pm
leftist this is the people who are saying no to new religious fascism making the president above the law the president and the muslim brotherhood behind him have already lost their credibility they have promised so many things in the past never kept their promises that's why most of these people are on the streets they were talking about over a million up to now because they are not happy with. his decision to assume absolute powers came just hours after he helped broker a cease fire between israel and hamas in gaza online right now we've got more on how he's crucial role in the truce gave him a green light for the drastic action. international teams are medics helping to dispel the controversy surrounding the death of iconic palestinian leader yasser arafat eight years ago his body was exhumed so they could take tissue samples for the investigation into allegations that may have been poisoned his remains have now
1:05 pm
been repaired in ramallah his middle east correspondent has more. chouse day the body of the former palestinian leader yasser arafat was removed from. where it's been for the better part of eight years since he died back in two thousand and four and since that time the question has never been on syria to hear exactly what exactly killed our five most palestinians believe that israel was behind his killing although israel has repeatedly and consistently denied this at the time of his did there was radioactive material that was found on his clothing what we're witnessing now is an investigation that is seeing a team of international investigators take samples of these tissues they will lead any case to gauge in various countries around the world will be told that it will take several months but then hopefully once before they will be an answer to the question as to what exactly killed the former palestinian leader when we talk about the death of yasser arafat is a lot of the scenes political maneuvering and repeatedly experts and critics and
1:06 pm
media analysts have pointed out that the old doozy of a network has been at the forefront of investigating what killed yasser arafat in fact they have spearheaded this whole investigation back in july they released a documentary that was entitled what killed now of course al-jazeera is backed by qatar and qatar has made no bones of the fact that it's desperate to see some kind of changes within the p.a. qatar would like to see the palestinian president mahmoud abbas pushed away from power and for more radical elements to come to power not only in gaza but also in the west bank and most notably here we're talking about hamas this would hope we could tarries meet their goals particularly in syria where for quite some time they have been pushing for regime change which was also witnessed a growing together in terms of relationship between the qatar and who must let me just remind you that some two hundred and fifty million dollars were recently
1:07 pm
pledged by qatar to hamas to help palestinians in the gaza strip to rebuild their homes in the infrastructure off to the operation. now what we also know is that israel stands to lose from all of this of course israel has been alarmed by the close relationship between harassed as well as saudi arabia qatar and mohamed morsi the they coming closer together and expressing more vocal anti israel sentiment so there's a lot happening behind the scenes we're not just talking about the examination of yasser arafat's body but we're talking about a much longer deeper ramifications. well to discuss this sensitive procedure and the potential political ramifications i'm joined live by beirut based political analyst on a shabby when it's been eight years since arafat's death why is it only in this investigation has been launched do you think. well you see first of all one should see there are two issues here there's the issue of investigation investigating the
1:08 pm
murder of out of two to have justice for his family and for his people and there are also you know issues that i think you alluded to in your question that are related to the timing why is it now. moving forward with this investigation why hasn't that been done in the past five died in two thousand and four well. there wife of mr arafat as the report just said put forward some samples of some of the clothing to al-jazeera network that belongs to qatar and they sent them to laboratories to actually see and they found polonium two ten radioactive material you see i have to remind as a footnote here that. in a two thousand and six. mr mr alexander. litvinenko had died from the same poisoning and he was murdered by that poisoning and therefore it is possible that this case came after two thousand and four and therefore it
1:09 pm
triggered the investigation now are there any political interest on the part of qatar to actually. investigation forward in order to create this puter among the palestinians because how can this happen let me just explain real quickly is that well if there is a poisoning of president arafat someone must have put the poison in his food or must have put his poison on his skin and to do that it must be someone from his clothes on to wash and to open this investigation will create this beauty within the fatah movement and within the closest people to yasser arafat who are now the close people to mahmoud abbas so therefore the question is is there a political objective on the part of qatar to support such an investigation or is it just an investigation because people really want to know what happened to their . they want justice to be you know achieve the political implications put those
1:10 pm
aside what about the political implications if it is proved perhaps proof for sure that israel was behind arafat's death which is something that of course many palestinians do assume what would be the implications if it is confirmed. well this is not the first time that israel assassinated palestinian leaders i mean you know recently has assassinated in two thousand mr my poor in the united arab emirates as isolated many palestinian leaders even inside beirut ok this comes as an exception assassination because this is the true symbol of the palestinian revolution and the palestinian people yet the importance of this is that it would create problems within the movement and within the palestine liberation organization itself because as i said earlier it should have been someone inside that who had israelis put the poison to mr arafat and the searching for that person would actually mean creating a new investigation within the organization and i'm not sure of that the
1:11 pm
organization has a level of maturity to maintain this within the scope of them an investigation not to take a political differences and political rivalries that is the danger and that is where perhaps the parties want to push this investigation forward in order to create schisms and divisions within. the advice is a mystery what about the context of the palestinian leadership submitting that draft resolution to the un general assembly which if approved will upgrade its status to member state will its investigation have any impact at all on that. well no doubt that it would shed more light on palestine and on the palestinian issue yet i don't think it has a direct effect on that. ok thank you very much indeed thanks for your thoughts they're going to be joining us live in beirut. most companies
1:12 pm
saw on high alert as nationalists threaten riots we report from the heart of moscow about why a case involving a dead student and a mixed martial arts fighter may spill into violence. plus the u.s. is stepping up its presence in the arab world putting all its efforts into creating a proxy army in the region all that coming your way later in the program after the break. waves of corruption are rocking russia hundreds of millions of dollars vanished from apec building projects and russia's got a nice satellite project a real estate scandal has also led to the defense minister being fired note i said fire in russia we hear a lot about corruption scandals and the reaction is usually a firing or
1:13 pm
a forced resignation and maybe that would be ok another country but russia has big dreams in a big country that has big corruption spoiling all of those dreams a country can't survive with every infrastructural or scientific project is so dry from within whether the government is unwilling or unable to sternly punish these offenders is a huge topic by could tell you that if there's no real fear of punishment this will just keep going on for ever perhaps it's time to put a big asterisk for high level corruption next to the moratorium on the death penalty but that's just my opinion. me is he he.
1:14 pm
did was not the military i was army and now today signed a new contract with a unit of the huge contracting. it was not the operation to secure and rebuild the devastated country caliber company taxpayers for its contract work in iraq. it was the campaign for making billions of dollars polymer lives reasonable and was boarded bills exceed one billion dollars iraq for sale. or profiteers.
1:15 pm
welcome to the. science technology innovation hall the list a moment around russia we've got the future covered. he continues here on r.t. if you just joined us a very warm welcome a former u.k. defense minister has come up with an extreme way to curb violence in afghanistan and pakistan he wants to drop a neutron bomb on the country's border well earlier i spoke about the
1:16 pm
unconventional suggestion here's a lord and quite the gas he's come out with a not one you'd expect from someone who has had such high government positions in the process this lord gilbert he was a defense minister under tony blair he was a member of the security and intelligence committee so privy to a lot of information sort of an expert in the defense field and he'd think he'd come up with some rather more constructive suggestions than what he's come up with bill but that's clearly not the case what has he come up with what did he propose exactly. well you know what gilbert quite literally suggested threatening to drop a neutron bomb on the pakistani afghan border in order to crack down on terrorism in the region now a neutron bomb is a thermonuclear weapon is designed to kill everybody in its wake and but it will leave physical structures intact so that's his bizarre suggestion and it was made
1:17 pm
during a debate in the house of lords during none of that it was a debate on the topic wait for it nuclear disarmament let's take a listen. to the mountains the borders that's going to produce all of those we live in except if you go. even now even if you told that they were going to be some. very very unpleasant place to go they wouldn't go that. you would bring the reduce your problems. for infiltration from one side or another he's talking about a quarter on sunday tab that could effectively be created by. this threat of a nuclear attack on this remote mountainous region where according to lord hill but nobody lives apart from a few goats and their herders so rather a bizarre idea and a very dangerous one i just told was his proposal received from any. well as
1:18 pm
you can expect there's such a crime that it's been condemned by everybody in the house of lords of course the government spokesman in the house of lords is very quickly said that lord gilbert's rumbustious view isn't shared by the government on this topic a lot of people quite angry that he's come out and said this and of course everyone even outside of politics have heard all of this comment that he's made saying that this is really the kind of thing that makes a more curry out of the british establishment understanding of the problems that in the very sensitive problems in the region and a mockery of the house of lords ultimately. syrian rebels going to helping hand from france paris pledges to send to the nation more than one and a half million dollars despite criticism that it could actually fuel violence. still to come the first of the three years of trial and error the eurozone finance ministers say they've now found the key to saving greece aside from agreeing to
1:19 pm
hand over more bailout cash the e u also vowed to ease up on loan conditions that is so long as athens keeps pushing more sturdy well for greece we can discuss with a member of the european parliament epic thanks very much indeed for being with us now this deal is being held as a breakthrough for the eurozone so is the euro and greece now secure. no not really it's actually not the first time we hear this it's already do third time in three years every time e.u. leaders say that greece has been saved and yet and then next year they come back with the same question now this is the third bailout package and basically what they're doing is to extend the repayment of loans at a lower interest rate this may help little bit because very unlikely that the national debt of greece will come down to one hundred ten percent by two thousand and twenty two basically the trick in the whole thing is that the presupposed
1:20 pm
economic growth of greece is supposed to be three point seven percent by two thousand and sixty and that is highly unlikely why because surely all of these measures are actually lightning greece's debt burden and that surely would stimulate economic growth wouldn't it. well not really basically greece is in a downward spiral and what the forecasts have been made of economic growth of over three percent by two thousand and seventeen is highly unlikely and that's a reason to get to these figures for the presumption is wrong has been long all the way through. because the figures that has been shown and have been for cossotto the past years have always been too rosy the e.u. and the world and the i.m.f. are very much afraid to tell public opinion in europe europe but there will be no growth for the next five or six years to come so they always saying there is
1:21 pm
improvement in economic growth around the corner but once you're at the corner then . there's being obviously a good reaction in the markets doesn't that suggest that perhaps there could be some form of confidence by the investor returning. in the eurozone and it's this also demonstrates the fact that the eurozone is determined to stay together to keep its credibility to be united this surely is an important gesture. yes but it also happened in the previous belong packages investors were happy because the day had been saved for just another few weeks or months and then all the old problems came back because greece is not able to fulfill all the requirements that have been put forward and this is the problem of greece and next year spring of next year all the cuts that have been proclaimed now they have been announced now will start biting the greek public even more and will be more protests and it will be more a cry for more help and more bailout packages so would not off the problem in fact
1:22 pm
i have to admit that i'm afraid that the problem's going to stay around for quite some time but what about as an example to greece we're seeing portugal just adopting a new budget with president to tax hikes of sturdy measures which will reportedly cost the average worker what a month's salary but it is displaying that it is going to perceive these austerity measures and saying look this is a bit of a pill that really needs to be swallowed if they didn't think it was the right course they wouldn't follow it would they. know what you see they have to because they are in the same condition in the same situation as greece they are relying on support and they are in part of a bailout package so they have to do it they have no choice but high it takes asian will not bring any growth. an important ally there and i think portugal will say look look what the greeks have received a very good package we would like to have the same thing namely low interest rates and long repayment schedules that will be good for us as well and i can imagine it has been fulfilling the requirements very much and very adequately over the past
1:23 pm
year is thinking about the same so we're setting a wrong example why the things we do not allow for the. thank you very much your thoughts i mean. always good to hear we have to say live there in brussels thanks for being with us and thank you bye bye. well with the british economy firmly in the doldrums the government's frantically salvaging what it can wherever it can but all he's max keiser says it may be too late the full cause report coming up at nineteen thirty g.m.t. but here's a quick teaser for you. today the u.k.'s leading financial magazine money week says and i quote britain is about to be flattened by a tidal wave of did that will see the end of britain i came to london because here again is you a front row seat on the imminent collapse of the entire city the british skill to market the british sovereign bond market is in
