question david. a referendum on leaving the e.u. . special favors for the u.k. as a precondition to staying put. israel. to continue building jewish settlements. and pressuring iran over its nuclear energy program. and the rise of foreign investment. petition.
9:01 am
but welcome to you from all of us here. with news from around the world. has been promised a referendum on ditching the e.u. although it is subject to prime minister david cameron's political fortunes in the next election finally delivering his long awaited speech the prime minister special deal for the u.k. from brussels while blasting the bloc for quote snuffing out diversity and disagreement. did pledge to hold a referendum on whether britain should be able to leave the e.u. if the conservatives win the next general election in twenty fifteen and then he went on to warn that it was likely that britain could head for the exit if he was unable to renegotiate britain's terms of membership with brussels what it
9:02 am
effectively he wants is that brussels hands more power back to westminster so the u.k. has more control over its own policies particularly economic ones he said that countries will be coming as weaker because of the current situation with the european union and the eurozone crisis and the fact that countries did not have great control over their own economic policies so he wasn't mincing his words today he also went on to say that the british public felt disillusioned with the european union and felt disappointed with the lack of apparently democracy and accountability from all the directives that get handed to other member states from brussels this is what david cameron had to say there is a gap between the e.u. and its citizens which has grown dramatically in recent years and which represents a lack of democratic approach accountability and consent that is yes felt particularly acutely here in britain what are you saying to a lot of people did saying quite confrontational but he's also trying to stress the
9:03 am
fact that look please don't denounce britain for having new style of thinking should be encouraged and he believes that with this he might be able to make you a better place. to farm reporting right europe's leaders have begun reacting to the prime minister's speech with warnings of worse to come if the u.k. pushes for the exit door the predominant message seems to be that britain is not in a position to dictate what rules it will follow and which ones it won't produce all of its following reaction in europe. well as you can imagine david cameron's speech was watched very very closely here in mainland europe and it's being greeted with concern pretty much all across the board here in germany the foreign minister good of esta valley said that you know germany have their own problems with brussels having too much power in their opinion over domestic policy of member states however the way that david cameron was looking at going around changing not was and
9:04 am
the way forward a similar type of reaction in france from the french foreign minister he said that well it was that it could be dangerous for the united kingdom if it was to go it's a load outside of europe saying what david cameron was suggesting was like turning up to play for a football team and then walk upon a rival saying no no let's play rugby essentially is that moving the goal posts martin schulz the speaker of the european parliament certainly pulling no punches he said it would be and it was ridiculous basically what david cameron was putting forward and in fact pointed the finger at back at the united kingdom saying that the u.k. always complains that decisions in brussels take too long the speaker of the parliament saying well it's the united kingdom that draws these things out and drags them out and makes them take too long essentially though the underlying message from everybody across europe from leaders across europe this seems to be concerned particularly concerned that if they are cameron does and is able to
9:05 am
negotiate these new terms for the u.k. well can everybody now to go shape their own terms within the union and willis create a twenty eight speed european union whereby everybody just looks out for their own interests and doesn't really look out for what's best for the e.u. . what is pretty well over there reporting from berlin wall commenting on the speech a tory m.e.p. david campbell bannerman says britain stance may serve as an example to other european states. it's not just britain that wants more flexibility and more control by nation states a lot of countries like back for the czech republic but. the danish a lot of these countries do you want more flexibility within the european union and i think actually this is a trend. and i think it's right of the prime minister to hold out for this to get a better europe it's too inflexible too rigid too undemocratic at the back.
9:06 am
thanks for joining us here on r.t. canada is the latest nato country to step up support for the french intervention in mali recent number of allies of the african islamists some experts believe france may have bitten off more than it can chew opinion on that coming up in just a few minutes here on r.t. . and revelations of murder trial the internet freedom activist aaron swartz who took his own life earlier this month the man who had been facing thirty five years in jail for his activities may actually have been linked to wiki leaks. coming up just a few minutes. but for now the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu may have won the general election but he's done so only by the skin of his teeth defying almost all predictions the biggest winners were to the center with concern over house prices seemingly trumping nuclear threats as artie's pulis leave reports
9:07 am
it may leave netanyahu desperate enough to turn to the extreme right for help in the future. the voting here might be in secret but what's no secret is the result there was never really any doubt that prime minister netanyahu would win another term in office but the knot on paper isn't matched by the anger on the street to avoid starting mission and we know that never knew who brought about a deficit of thirty nine billion dollars who's going to cut the welfare social education and health budgets this is what the next four years will look like you know an image in the back of any movie but i'm scared to death i really am it will be a disaster very simply he's going to rob us of the chance to fulfill true zionism and israel. knows that it's not on our whose hands will be tied trying to keep a lid under mystic anger half of his radios are more concerned about the economy than making peace with a person in his or dealing with iran's nuclear ambitions but it's precisely these

issues that see israel and the coalition course with the international community. continuing to build new settlements. daily not weekly. this is really a very powerful signal to the palestinians to the. community that there is not willing to move for the along the road of two state settlement this settlement was founded nearly thirty years ago by just fifteen families it's since grown fifty fold at a rate of about one hundred families a year for the world to tell me that if i'm going to build a summer home or want to have kilometer of course on my house is an obstacle to peace is absurd the sects are such that jews came back to their land the facts are such that we as a population are growing i am not willing to move from our house for what. for what
9:09 am
peace mission yahoo has vowed that the days of uprooting jews are behind he needs the support of the settlers and right wing parties if his coalition is to succeed a gamble american president barack obama has reportedly warned will lead the country down the path of isolation it's no secret netanyahu and obama don't see eye to eye and not just on what's happening within israel's borders i think the issue of iran will come back to that they will it will not surprise i think anyone in israel if we'll see an israeli attack during the next year or two for that and you know we see this as a critical threat do is work in to it is unable to postpone. the issue the palestinian issue and so now begins the audios task of coalition building it could take weeks of bargaining and negotiations before the final make up of the new government is declared if netanyahu stays true to the polls he could be on
9:10 am
course to give israel the most hard line government in its history policy archie television and protecting israel from the perceived threat of the iranian nuclear program is among netanyahu top priorities he has advocated a military attack on iran's facilities in the past however during his third term he will have very little support for such an attack that's according to get even levy a columnist at the israeli newspaper ha'aretz. you tell you're always very devoted to this issue and he believes almost in a religious way that he's here to say the state of israel in the jewish people from the danger of iranian bomb but he will heavy. more difficult this time because at least on this topic he will find fewer partners who would support it because i think that this kind of adventure without the minister of defense old barak who supported the then we'll look most probably in the coming government will
9:11 am
tell you how we find himself more easily to barack obama second. no doubt that he will not let this happen but you know it does not react all raising very racial terms saw i wouldn't exclude the because that i was so devoted about it. as i said joining us here on r.t. today just a couple of hours ago britain was ultimately promised a referendum on ditching the e.u. this coming from david cameron the prime minister his highly anticipated and long awaited speech let's get more perspective on it now on cameron's possible exit referendum from the british side of things that's a speak to mr paul not all m.e.p. from the u.k. independence party a pleasure to see you today i'm sure you are having a very close watch on mr cameron's speech in fact we all know you and i have spoken in the past you have little love for britain's membership of the e.u. and now you've got a referendum on the shed you will or hopefully perhaps on the show jewel are you
9:12 am
satisfied. well i think firstly rory we must say that cameron is only given this speech because of the strength of ukip in the polls at the moment we're polling around fourteen to fifteen percent so in effect we forced him into a corner because ten years ago nobody was talking about brittany the leaving the e.u. or really a referendum and it's a testament to the hard way if you keep numbers that this is now on the agenda however what i will say is i think this is an attempt by cameron to kick this issue with the long grass we're talking about a referendum five years down the line and it's all dependent on whether he wins the next general election or not and we know that if you look at the polls today it's showing quite clearly that cameron will struggle to win the election so i do think that this is an attempt to kick into the long grass and quite frankly this man has lived before and referendums he gave as a cast iron guarantee that we were. friends and on our membership of lisbon he went
9:13 am
back on that referendum pledge i don't think you can be trusted on this when there are certainly many mr not all that say that he's been trying to appease many many different parties on different levels with his speech here also many also saying that you just mentioned a moment ago that he's pushed this so far down the line now that although the speech was relevant perhaps the action may seem too far postponed let's talk about reaction so far european reaction seemingly relatively similar that you can't pick and choose what policies to follow i mean isn't that a legitimate point to anything why should britain get special favors. well look the point is that renegotiation is going to be nigh on impossible we've heard. the president of the european council. but also you've had a shawl tuesday president of the european parliament you've had the prime minister the list can go on of all of these people who are saying that britain cannot cherry pick and what we're saying is give us that referendum and give us it now we haven't voted on this issue since one nine hundred seventy five what we voted on in seventy
9:14 am
five was about trade we didn't vote on a parliament or flag and firm embassies because this is becoming a european superstate it's not what we want it's not where we want to go and if you're under fifty four you have another vote on this issue and we look roy i was a ball last time of all was taken on this issue my generation deserves a right of all and let's get it out the way let's not have any of this on the certainty over five years and we renegotiation will start after two thousand and fifty let's have that referendum in this parliament and let's do it in two thousand and fifteen and i will what about a david cameron very he's ultimately caught trying to keep both for euro crowds and euro skeptics bay how can he still placate the to do you think i mean is there frankly is there a common solution and i think that the common solution will be to hold referendum in this parliament and in britain the public in britain will have the opportunity to vote on this issue and i think we should vote no i mean i think we should come out because britain would be
9:15 am
a stronger nation outside of the european union yes let's try to trade with our grouping partners be friends with them but what we don't want is to be dictated to by brussels which in effect initiate seventy five percent of the laws of this country all we want and you care is for those decisions that affect this country to be taken by our democratically elected representatives at westminster seven i don't think that's too much to ask at all m.e.p.a. from the u.k. independence party many thanks indeed for coming on the program. thank you. well it's good to have you with us here in our team today we are as usual coming to you live from moscow many more stories to come for you a short break. what mistry is hidden deep the nice. visitors welcome here. traps laid for

with us here today ski resort of davos is buzzing with business right now after the annual world economic forum kicked off that today the prestige is even more important for russia which is warming up to host the next g. twenty summit more on the power of davos agreements on the big deals business. well the overall theme is definitely spurring growth in terms of the european sovereign debt crisis also the u.s. fiscal cliff is at the forefront of people's minds here today and as far as russia is concerned we've heard the prime minister from the states to keep out how russia says that all of this on the domestic issues are really the three scenarios that were compiled by the palace today including the former finance minister alexei could today as well as her mcgrath ahead of that as well the scenarios include how the price of oil will affect russia so if it remains high it will this mean the
9:18 am
institutional reforms don't happen because complacency will come into play if those rises goats out what would that mean for russia considering it so and it depends on as well is that there was a focus on regional differentiation in other words because russia is such a vasa country getting it more in an even kill in terms of compassion stiffness and attractiveness to invest is what i found ready interesting was that the audience which is full of some of the world's most influential powerful leaders policymakers they were also what i wanted to most see from russia and seventy seven point seven percent voted for good governance so i'm going to be here all day we're going to be really monitoring the situation and i'll be back six thirty and eight thirty g.m.t. with all the details. all right i asked if that for now about canada's reconsidering extending its commitment to the french intervention in mali now it will include sending in troops for logistical support that's after the u.s.

the u.k. also boosted their backing for the operation and the morgan an expert on west africa believes pirates clearly underestimated the size of the task involved. this is a very strange and very diverse and very kind of collide coalition of people you have the hard core of the al qaeda and the islamic magreb fighters now they are very very hardened desert fighters been out there for almost a decade they know the region very very well you know the desert is that absolute home you also have the rebels who basically decided to put their faith in a yeah don't garley is this islamist leader this strong man he's basically seduced a lot of to ari into joining his islamist cause now they'll be at home and they know that there's a that's their territory their soup doesn't fight they specialize in this kind of

hit and run a real attack to sell strike very fast and then they'll disappear into the desert possibly even over the borders and we know that the attack on javelin this town about four hundred kilometers northeast of bamako was launched from across the border remarks that will be a huge problem for the for the for the kind of france and its allies. to attention to jordan where many are heading to the polls in early parliamentary elections announced by the king in response to two years of arab spring protests this is the first time the prime minister will not be appointed by royal decree but the monarch will only consult the parliament over its choice for the course of critical voices so as the country is far from real change as ever claim that the government is likely to rig the ballot and the vote has been boycotted by the muslim brotherhood a move that broad support we interviewed at the incumbent prime minister abdullah and sort who thinks the brotherhood has chosen the wrong way to achieve its goals here's a quick preview of what's coming up at eight hundred forty g.m.t.
9:21 am
. the brotherhood is a power that has been part of the national political process for a long time since the one nine hundred forty s. it has been actively involved in the political and social affairs of the country it is run for parliament and has been represented in legislatures since the one nine hundred fifty s. they are not hostile towards the country or its current leadership but this time they initiated a boycott demanding a change in the election laws and the constitution to better suit them if you opt for a boycott why would anyone change the law in the future it would stay just the same it's a catch twenty two they should have participated in the election and enforced the change they are asking for. ok to syria now where the bloody civil standoff will see no resolution as long as

rebels overwhelmingly supported by some foreign powers stick to the only idea of regime change that's according to the russian foreign minister sergey lavrov as he was summing up the diplomatic ups and downs of the past year. off reports. one of the issues talked about at the very start of this conference was the conflict in syria and according to russia's foreign minister it's been going on for around two years now but there's still no evidence after it from the international community to get its sides to put their weapons down actually. said that the a one sided approach seen by most western states is only encouraging the rebels to gage in more violence which will lead to more bloodshed now another issue actually another conflict also talked about at this conference is the france led military intervention in mali and russia's chief diplomat said that what's happening there now is actually a consequence to how many western states dealt with other conflicts in the region for instance the weapons clearly used by islamists in the fight against government

forces other scene weapons which were supplied to libyan rebels by western states but of course it's not only about libya syria and mali according to the foreign minister the whole region is a trouble spot and the lack of a unified approach by the international community and double standards are only worse in the situation where terrorist groups including al qaeda are beginning to gain more and more influence now the foreign minister also mentioned iran saying that it is a very very important player in the region and any military attack on it will lead to severe consequences. and iran's foreign minister has said he wants talks on his country's nuclear program to be staged in cairo egypt has reportedly welcome the suggestion to iran and the other six nations involved in the talks including russia china and america all say they want the dialogue to begin again and world powers continue calling for curbs on iran's nuclear powers program. and reports yemen

indicate that al qaeda is deputy leader in the country and one of saudi arabia's most wanted men has died according to the site intelligence group monitoring terrorism side out. he was declared dead by another prominent jihadist he passed away from injuries sustained during a u.s. drone strike in december. now police in the u.k. have arrested two men who are said to be part of a vigilante group calling themselves the muslim patrol clips posted on you tube show the youths walking around east london confronting people intending telling them to obey shari'a law muslim organisations in the area have condemned their actions but is there a further ports continues to send. an islamic vigilante group that's what they call themselves a small number of people who were going up to members of the public in areas of london and confronting them saying that they were implementing shari'a law and that

this was a muslim area and they were demanding people throw away the alcohol they were insulting to women telling them to cover up this got uploaded on cd tens of thousands of people saw it the original video got to me because the police investigation started but once again you know that goes around so it's still on you tube right now and again tens of thousands of hits one of the people in the video said that this is ek it's not a miss america as a shari'a law but obviously we've seen that this is a debate the really does inflame tensions and causes a lot of control the sea and i think the most in community core c.-k. really have come out to condemn what this small groups done and to try to distance themselves from of the east london mosque saying that it was designed to stoke up tension so that there's very much an emphasis on distancing themselves from that type of behavior because certainly this is part of a why did debate in the area of london where the police think that this video was

filmed in east london is an area that see this argument come up a number of times over the past couple of years with fundamentalist leaks in these areas making a lot of noise about wanting to relaunch implemented in the end it is a very touchy subject for a lot of people as we said very threatening behavior in those videos. he's a sort of a reporting right now of a high profile internet freedom activist who took his life earlier this month after he was prosecuted for alleged hacking could have close links to wiki leaks and the whistle blowing group came forward with a surprise revelations on aaron swartz on its twitter feed wiki leaks has published several statements suggesting that the late activist assisted one of the trees says that schwartz communicated with the wiki leaks founder julian assange for several years and strongly believed to be a source of vital information the investigation into his activities saw him threatened with up to thirty five years behind bars. well for more on the case of aaron swartz we spoke exclusively to internet entrepreneur kim dot com now fighting
