you need to know this so wayne la pierre says this. the only way to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally in and invested in a plan of absolute protection the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun so by extension the n.r.a. his solution to too much gun violence in america is to increase the number of armed people in america especially in our schools after all what could possibly go wrong . well in response to newtown a school in michigan hired a retired police officer and firearms instructor to be that school's armed guard to use the public boy's bathroom and left his gun behind where it could be found by one of the kids yes they two men got into an argument at lone star college in

houston one twenty two year old carlton barry is alleged to have pulled out a gun and started shooting and only somebody else in the room we don't yet have the details fired back at him in the crossfire a school janitor was shot and another person is reported to be a student was also taken to college students packing heat on campus after all what could possibly go wrong. well here's what could go wrong america with five percent of the world's population has a quarter of the world's civilian held guns and we have almost thirty times the rate of gun violence of any other developed nation ten thousand die from shootings every year in america and twice that many people use guns to kill themselves more than once a day in america child accidentally kills himself or herself or another child with a gun a gun in a household is more likely to be used for homicide or suicide in that household than it is to shoot somebody trying to break into the house the president calls for background checks and somehow wayne la pierre thinks that means a national gun registry all the have the president hasn't called for such

a thing i am when we figured out in the one nine hundred twenty s. that cars could go fast enough to kill people we began regulating them first was stop signs and traffic signals then with the registration of the cars then with the requirement for liability insurance and then with proof of proficiency to drive through a driver's license you want to give your car to somebody or sell your car to somebody you have to transfer the title why do we do that with a five hundred dollars car and not with a five hundred dollars computer because the car can kill somebody in the computer and now wayne la pierre and his paranoid frenzy thinks that doing something like treating guns the same way we treat our will lead to taxes or taking them away. he wants to put every private personal firearms transaction right under the thumb of the federal government and he wants to keep all of those names in a massive federal registry. there's only two reasons for

a federal list on gun owners to either tax them or take them. first of all once again this is a straw man that pier is like here is throwing out there the president has never suggested a national gun registry but as i said i am and of course if there's a cost to society of adding all these guns. like with cars and a cost to maintain a system of registering like with cars then perhaps there should be a small tax to pay for it i don't hear him being all hysterical about having to pay a title transfer tax when he sells his car or gives it to his grandson friends are not a gift to you from god they're expensive devices manufactured to kill people and other living things as such they should be well regulated not taken but regulated we figured out sixty years ago that doctors can kill people so now we register them they're licensed they're insured they're regulated cars can kill people and so they're registered licensed insured regulated to not register license insure and

selfs. their god given freedoms they belong to us in the united states of america as our birthright no government gave them to us and no government can ever take them away. you know i musta missed that book in the bible i've read it cover to cover four times but somehow i never read the book away now where the burning bush you know you have the right to have firearms with multiple you know large high capacity ammunition clips i don't know dan what am i missing here i frankly i'm being tired of told by men prone to human error what i need and don't i am a law abiding patriotic american who loves my country i think i have some credibility on this issue having been a secret service agent a police officer and handled weapons responsibly for seventeen years i think is

a very reasonable conversation to be had about gun violence in this country that needs to be had but we have this conversation and i soar and in your monologue there that you're assuming you get to pick the place where violence is going to be god forbid brought upon you you don't tom nor did those kids in newtown it is determined by the person who has that gone and that person's got we're not going to obey the law he doesn't care i never arrested someone in seventeen years who had the gun legally i could have carried a gun off duty on planes i didn't i'm not a member of the n.r.a. but we have to get past the fact that you seem to assume that you're going to get to choose the time and place where violence is going to be drawn upon dan you're your mind reading skills aside i'm not i'm not making this about. my actually you know i didn't raise the issue of assault weapon ban or high capacity clips but since you bring it up no we could none of us could have chosen that but if that kid

didn't have high capacity clips available to him there might have been just been two or three kids dead instead of ten and all. armed guard in the lobby may not have happened at all well there was not a charge of columbine there was an armed guard. armed guard at columbine save lives and reduce the violence if you look at the behavior of columbine ran in the other i no no no no that's totally inaccurate but if you look at the path ology of all these incidents these mass shootings they all have one thing in common they're soft targets the shooters go there with the knowledge there is unlikely to be anybody there who is armed why any of us happening anywhere else. define anywhere else well any other developed country in the in the world every other developed country in the world has sensible regulations on guns and that doesn't mean that they don't have guns canada has more guns per capita than we do but they have sensible regulations and so there's we we do for hunters by the way you know hunters you know honey you can eat like a duck plug you know you but you can't have more than three rounds i mean and hunter say yeah we'll do that sport's been like you know what's what's wrong with

you know regular away you know having some regulation of guns we regulate free speech you know you talk about high capacity magazines best sign i saw recently is you need a high capacity magazine because it takes more than three shots to take down a rapist. what yet is to somebody's head and one of the protests i thought was great you need that kind of come on just and dan you're a police officer or you were a police officer i went through the georgia police academy where you know what i heard was that in a fire fight if you can hit one out of five shots you're doing pretty damn good well the reality is secret service agents carry double magazines thirty rounds each day you have sixty rounds secret service agents some of the finest shots in the world if they need sixty rounds why would you think a soccer mom in oklahoma where the police are thirty minutes or a needs ten where is your thing my point my point is that in a crowded environment if somebody is going to try and take out a shooter the odds are well as happened yesterday in texas right you know two of

to think tonight climate change is a problem because it's about eight degrees outside but as far as manmade climate change i think most people disagree with it statistics show that the good of the climate has not warmed any in the last couple of decades you know you believe and yet you know you'll see interest in due time i'm sure there's no manmade climate change and to prevent it i think the climate changes all the time is the difference between weather and climate the question and i think we need to discern this definitively before we invest trillions of dollars which should be taken out of poverty programs things like that so you think that science is still out that i think there may be a role in a manmade roe i don't think that a trillion dollars again taken out of anti-malaria programs aids programs in africa is necessarily the best investment for our money if we can't definitively show that but that verdict the trillion dollars come from the trillion dollars comes from an opportunity cost that's roughly how much people thrown out there are some experts on the left to lower the climate point zero zero zero zero one degree you know when

george herbert walker bush was president we had this terrible problem of acid rain there has been rain was caused by sulfur dioxide that was coming out of smokestacks of coal power coal fired power plants and so he put together a cap and trade system where the over time the amount of sulfur dioxide you were allowed to have it would decline and you could trade in sulfur dioxide credits. cap and trade worked brilliantly acid rain is not that much of a problem anymore and the banks did well the oil companies did well the power companies did well you know i don't see any opportunity cost lost there why can't we do the same thing with carbon dioxide. there's a huge difference between talking about an isolated problem which was acid rain which occurred in specific areas and this huge hoax that we call the manmade global warming you know five hundred what if there's if there's even a one percent chance that ninety nine percent of the world's scientists are right if there's even a one percent chance that we could be really seriously messing with the possibility that our grandparents could even serve our grandchildren could even survive should

we pay attention to. the were first of all the science is not settled in fact some of it is arguably even been forged but our five hundred years ago we had something called the little ice age devastated europe they couldn't grow crops even two hundred two hundred fifty years ago new york harbor froze over during the winter now it doesn't if this is a good time for us if there is as much evidence to show that climate change is caused by solar activity as opposed to manmade i would i will leave you with the last word on that judson let's talk about labor unions although i disagree with you . but i won't get into the area let's talk about labor unions it appears the labor strikes are now a thing of the past as this chart shows work stoppages from labor disputes have won it since the one nine hundred seventy s. forty years ago there was an average of nearly three hundred work stoppages a year involving more than one thousand workers but in two thousand and nine that number dropped all the way down to five per year just five major work stoppages per year yet working people have suffered through thirty years of flat wages and

watching their jobs be shipped overseas on the flip side lock outs are on the rise this is the result of less democracy in the workplace also known as unions stemming from conservatives busting up union since the time of reagan and when unions declined so too does the middle class a share of national income so isn't this the real reason why the little plus. is suffering dan you're going to say correlation is not causation this is the whole line of reasoning the middle class and lower income groups in the united states are suffering because of government tom you know one i dispute a lot of the income inequality statistics there is income inequality and obviously the level is always those that were the worst in the developed world when it well you know they asked in a developed world it would households which is whatever your household run for the hills splitting fifty thousand dollars amongst five people and amongst two people it's two completely different things secondly lower income folks tend to spend money on products where competition is really active you know in wal-mart the

higher income folks don't they invest in services that are really locally geographically based they put their money in mitt romney swiss bank this is all done tom this is all happening because we have a tax code skewed towards big corporations because both sides have done it school in a story we're talking here about the fact that as union since ronald reagan declared war on labor unions in one in the spring of one thousand nine hundred eighty one when he when he fired the patco workers from that day until this we have seen union membership union strikes union power just absolute collapse it went from around thirty percent when reagan came in to around seven percent of the private sector now and along with that we've seen an absolute flattening of wages how can those two not you we haven't seen a flattening of wages that's just not true i mean we shouldn't just on wages right now are a dollar twelve cents higher than they were every thirty times ago every single quintile has gone up but the question is the have the rich as the top quintile gone up at a higher rate and prison is going up two hundred seventy five percent right but the

bottom quintile is going to do so you know if you want to it hasn't even gone up what ten percent are you tom but you're not you're acting as a nihilist feel like it's destroying things so what's your solution make a solution is make everybody poorer might know my solution is rollback to have tartly oh. but i'm serious you know card check let people join unions if they want to judge so there's two reasons why strikes are almost nonexistent now. number one and this is a point you're going to agree with me it's going to shock you that i agree with something that this that is free trade has just decimated our manufacturing sector totally with it and away in these in these so-called free trade agreements so there is a there disasters and what's even worse this year we are going to see the worst of them all the mother of free trade agreements trip then abortion called the trans pacific partnership i'm totally with but the second thing is as a practical matter a strike is a disastrous tool for employees if you go out on strike listen you go out on strike for two months and you get a three percent raise well guess what you've lost about ten percent of your wages

so it's going to take you two or three years just to make up what you lost so it's not a smart tool then why is it that those strikes those you know the massive strikes in the one nine hundred thirty s. and the early one nine hundred forty s. that led to the you know large scale unionization of industrial america were so successful in creating good wages for. the united middle well into the sixty's seventy's we don't get away that now we do have a little not so much but way back then you had the roosevelt administration which is very much pro in the eyes now in this direction which was pro union in the nixon administration that was pro union don't even start you know richard nixon but. you know what we're seeing for strive for employees striking in this day and age is simply a bad idea you end up losing more than you get your because because the employers have all the power i don't disagree with that let's take on let's talk about pot on tuesday the u.s. court of appeals ruled in favor of the d.d.a. drug enforcement agency and declined to change the official drug classification of

marijuana currently the d.a. classifies marijuana as a schedule one drug which is reserved for the most dangerous type of drugs that have absolutely no medical benefit other schedule one drugs include heroin and l.s.d. on schedule to cocaine morphine and p.c.p. played in the case presented more than two hundred peer reviewed studies that show the benefits of medicinal marijuana governor ling. in chafee in rhode island governor christine gregoire in washington state both called for marijuana to be rescheduled but the court was and swayed does anyone else think this is absolutely insane that we classify marijuana as a more dangerous drug than heroin cocaine p.c.p. you know this to this is ridiculous me being a law enforcement officer my entire adult life the criminalization of chris always a tongue twister criminalization of marijuana on the aircraft is an absurd idea i mean i remember patrolling the streets in new york city and you'd catch you know a kid a sixteen year old good kid all around maybe got caught made a mistake was smoking
