choose your language. calling me kevin though in a financial planner i say sell some of the. treatments that the consensus can. choose the opinions that invigorating to. choose the stories that in high life choose me access to your office.
4:31 am
hello again and welcome to the spotlight the interview show on r.t. i'm out here not even today my guest in the studio is see the road to salt. it's amazing but today when practically everything on earth is discovered the thirst for adventure is a strong as that millions of people living around us are dreaming of getting away from it all being free i guess today is one of those who really made a french travel author journalist and filmmaker soon to soar is our guest our spotlight. event to song middle class with dreamed about traveling around the
4:32 am
world and advice he also looks. to me to leave the great things in the shack amazingly beautiful by calling me back here. that is all he's about the bloke i know that you believe that he's pulled in. just so thanks for being with us today it's very nice to have you and i would like to start with something i read about should this is according to some sources you did amongst your geopolitics true so jill politicians if i could make all he said don't usually travel around the world on the bike they they they they don't live for six months on the. bike all in siberia so so. sure maybe we should use this year because it's a way traveling the best way to see the word if you stay in. on
4:33 am
your walking to you you may have a very theoretical view of the world and i think one of the biggish an affair geographer or if the g.o.p. decision is to go on the road to see exactly what is only a little of the work so what you do isn't just for fun it really helps you with your science with your research is that true you really want to understand something or you just having fun it's just a dream and you know of course yes it's a dream it's a child child and dream to travel on to live this life of very plenty of. freedom but i think mayor and i read east to write books and i. try to organize my life between the traveling and the reach out you know and it's what convicting me you do any writing while you're traveling like something you know yes you do e.g. every day it's quite a sort of disappeared. maybe
4:34 am
a one hour or two hour us every day like you know delete like leo tolstoy maybe maybe think you. knew that you know as people do some g.s.t. for a two hour says every day or a joking when my game into the culture going is to write one or two hours every day about what i leave what i thought what i saw all the meditation i had on the day and i try to put all these which is my day and to put it in the very very small square of my notes i says this. every day you see tonight i would write about our meeting that in the end you listen what do you like most about your journeys well you mention challenges of the challenge is it the people you meet or maybe something else. i think the most important thing for me when i am writing bicycle around the world or crossings the state of scientology by horses or
4:35 am
climbing the human i am looking for is to train to make the life be very intense. very deep and also i may obsession is to try. to make the time a little bit going a little bit slower slower because i am very obsessed by the. extremely fast ness of the time which is really. saying straying away and this is a problem for me and i thought that writing in the travelling is the best way to make the time be more and slow down a you so the wonderful thing that really that i really loved about cheers and you said that the only three true luxuries in the world are silence space in solitude right here but listen what about lubbers genies i mean there's of course a. i mean they have to love beautiful women for. the course on
4:36 am
a matter maybe maybe a bit but we are speaking about really actually and i think you know what is a beautiful woman isn't really though of course it is. good of course of course but it's not very rare in paris but new and in moscow especially must be much for a common thing no i think. seriously the definition of the looks is of course what is rare and i think. the silence and the space will be to morrow. more expensive than yes the gas and the gold then you should have fresh water yes of course. let's talk about solitude well you say you really love something makes you think making news but. this is. make you
4:37 am
a different person for example for me well i agree to most of the things you say but for me if i have to be alone for more more than a day more than twenty four hours i don't have to die i mean i start going nuts when do you feel something oh you different person no i didn't feel the loneliness as a salute to the pain and hopefully because i spend six months in a little unit in the middle of. the shore of by cali lake in suburbia and i was i was very very into in a remote place it was six days walking from the first leg so it's a reset each year and the humid nobody visits yeah i met a little bit of hunter sense and fisherman russian of course who sometimes were coming in my hood maybe one or two. each moments or the friendly yes very very very very very serious and very friendly very beary and that's again that's
4:38 am
a very very it's a very very and they were of very true people regular people you know direct people and i love that but sometimes i spent two months without seeing even a man and. you know i do know he's on. the list and i didn't see the solitude as a pain because first of all i had a lot of books and when you have books you're in a conversation with the people who wrote the book so you are you sure yeah i'm sure i always think that a good book that makes you be in conversation with yourself isn't that well of course you are it's like it's like inside you mind you talk to you you talk to yourself reading a book maybe but you're receiving what right or wrong. one hundred years ago or ten years ago or ten months ago or so it's so if there is a sort of exchange and know of a kind of communication and the certain things. which explain that i didn't feel is reaching has been is that. i think that when you are alone in the media of the
4:39 am
tiger and when you are thinking of people that you are loving your wife your parents your sisters your brothers your friends you there are there. if you have you made a conversation of them and they are surrounding you and there was spring in your in your head then you were and you were giving crazy. like the big image of that of course of course because i was i was reading you for a for six months drinking vodka and speaking to the ghost it was it was cool with you yes and that. you want to mock what that was what was your day what was your daily daily do. today how full bottle yeah it's a twenty two hundred two hundred. liter a day. yeah but it's not because i used to work a lot you know you fall for it for five hours i was getting i guess the last count . we have awarded friends which is i don't beat which is. machine who makes the
4:40 am
vodka and i can understand so my next question going to have to you was listen you know it will make you laugh. how did you entertain yourself now i no longer hear that your boy see as your boss got so lots of fun listen what about being yours did you see any hungry bears of because because there are lots of lots of really wild animals around yeah i had to sit around contact with bears i was very afraid when i started to traveling ten or fifteen years ago because people told me is it's very dangerous to see a bear if you have a gun no i had what we call a fashion which is a sort of. emergency fire of just say you know are used just type also the football fans. and i don't don't like that either and that's why i said don't come to.
4:41 am
i have this which was protecting meaning there in that idea. after my first contact with bears i was not afraid any more because i understood that it was better to to meet a bear than to meet sometimes someone a human that you because of bears they obey some rule which i was and that you are low and there you know that if you if you behave properly the way the just we'll let you. go away if you don't act like pretty they're not interested of course if you don't look at them if you if you go back to slowly and i was speaking them french and. there were maybe a virtual prize by the snow they going why are you i think they were surprised because they they they they forgot that language because because it's been a long time since since since the russian the russian officers was sent to live in siberia and in the business that you know so somebody speaking french once again
4:42 am
after all these years. ok well i just want to remind you that the city of artists own is my guest on the show today a french through a french writer journalist and traveling public will be back after we take a break for staying with us through the.
4:43 am
mission in. cretaceous free. free. free free. free. free. free. market. happening to the global economy.
4:44 am
welcome back to spotlight i'm algor knob and just a reminder that still even to saw a french writer journalist and a traveler is here in my studio today this is a song you told me that you're in moscow now but you will be leaving moscow in
4:45 am
a couple days and going to france back on a motorcycle and you'll be following the route of napoleon bonaparte city in the eight hundred twelve when he was a new trade from us. back to paris it will be practically the same season and exactly the same route why did you decide to to make such as well i'm told the sad journey for a frenchman. of course it's almost more self or a phrase and for russia. i do it because a for several reasons the first one is that i think that it's it's a very very huge campaign and the french were three hundred thousand more than three hundred thousand who died in this russian joining and i think it's a sort of commemoration we want just to celebrate the memory of all those people who made this a this big tragedy where world men who died in the seal of russia in
4:46 am
the river of because you know many of those died old on the way back on the way to sleep you know in a battle but just your balance of the winter exactly and this is a two on exactly the two hundred. never syria of this pain and so we as we have a lot as you know there is a day since napoleon there is a book written about this story each day there is a new book which is published it's incredible it's more memory one of the of the story cold vents that produces the morgue. command teaching and book and so you can you you can if you want. an idea of the way back kilometer by kilometer because there is so much document and so much as to d. about the journey so we took that and we took a map and we made it exactly. very precise and that is route of the emperor himself there is to read because there is a lot of the army and at means far from means going but i would use the. only went
4:47 am
back by another route more fast and this is the one we will follow you. when you go on your journey as well i am i know that when you went on your journey to siberia for example you took another little i can of the russian saint with you well first of all sure i'd like to know which saint was that who it was and i really saw religious and made aware it was a just something for luck no i mean. it's very difficult to see for yourself you are very religious so no of course i think that. the sky is not only blue. or full of cloud the little saying used to carry with me when i say specially when i when i am in a sense our founder self i'd tell you. that we also. used to live you know you know in. and
4:48 am
and it was maybe a little bit crazy oh so you know you were speaking to the bear it was feeding the bear it was feeding johnny most of the. two so we go five minutes if you think that's right maybe i have a little. self self i think it's a very nice story because you try it also to say that the happiness is to have a very simple life so i wouldn't look at you talk to you i think i think that i don't really get it. feeling of what happened this really is well you do look at happy person but a you do things that most of the ordinary people would love to do but they never do it was why do you think millions of other people when they talk to read you will say oh i should do that but think they'd never do that why did they because they seem to feel the first step when i was twenty i started to google my first journey
4:49 am
was to go around the world with bicycle laurer for one year and i was writing to a twenty five thousand kilometers icing and everybody was telling me about your crazies are down jurors and luke you're going to die on the road and in fact we friend we started to write and it was very wonderful journey with no no more problem than when you are leaving it been a crazy city like perris or most schools where you can also can't get killed everybody. you can get it you can face a lot of problem in that city and you are not you are not more exposed when you're traveling in afghanistan and of course if you are taking some security. precautions precautions of course and a certain thing is that you know people things or way that the neighbor or the neighbor is leaving hair and so it's this is very low in the world when you're writing a village. or in africa it doesn't matter in brazier or in states or in russia are
4:50 am
in france yeah but people will tell you you know you have to take a lot of attention of the village which is just after us because our crazy and because of the injuries and so i think of the people who make a representation of the world they're very. huge and very tremendous and very dangerous and when you just knew your this and you go in the world and you do see that the world is quite sympathetically in fact it's just a problem of the first step because if you have to take the first two years you know if you really want to yeah yeah thats it. and it looks much easier i think that the people. who tell me what people don't do which is a steep of travel that's it's true that sometimes they say oh you're lucky to do that i didn't try and i think that maybe they put sense. we think this is only a little saying that that road. a thousand mile long long journey starts with a little stamp of course and you know when you are making such joy maybe for
4:51 am
example one time in two thousand and four i went from suburbia to calcutta walking through this is a tiger on the step and you it's exactly like like your own young talent they have you just thinking one day one day you know one day one day and you never consider all jolly because just because you become crazy listen when people listen to our conversation they would probably get thoughts like for example you sent a bottle of vodka a day that could cost money even in russia i mean well of course in russia is cheaper than in paris but still many people would see that i can't afford it i can't afford it going to call cut to russia to south america or whatever it is it is the financial fast to really really serious and we want to do. of course not because we actually knew the trouble i do our except except the travel of napoleon
4:52 am
on my side but all the travel i do are travel by walking by horse riding bicycling is sometimes holding in a kayak and which are very very slow way of transportation and very low cost because you are alone we just your sock and your bicycle in the middle of nowhere in the middle of tibet or in the middle of good desert and this is a very small budget you don't you don't need a lot of money to. for one year in the woods but you still need some money and you need some money to leave to your family or whoever and you're not making money when you're living in tiger well. first of all when you're living in a city also you need money and so the people who you make money will say you know what we want to go to work you know where you work you have to argue or to leave and there's the people who say that they don't travel because they don't have.
4:53 am
enough money when i made this choice to leave on the road and i live on the road and that's why it's like a walk it's exactly like a walk when i go into step over and i go into tiger it's like if i was going adelphia's now it's may it's really my life and the second scene is that i am a writer now so it's true that my publisher the produce a part of my of my travel and i have a contract when i am going to be foregoing you have a hunter and i am sure that this will probably pay pay back yeah if i come back and if i have something to say and we make we make a book that my publisher they helped me to make my dream and my traveling would you ever ever consider living the life of a new dream going to work every day to your office back to not not doing something since something crazy really wild you know for me it's very difficult to answer this question because i am not feeling crazy man and i feel that what i do is quite
4:54 am
ordinary and a lot of my friends are also a pianist and say or people who make some war war reports and afghanistan or in some country and so when i am with my friend we just a conversation about those people first type of journey so i don't feel like i do very special you know i'm just going back to paris well it's with the motorbike instead of taking the plane but it's not so it's not so crazy so i think i have quite to sort of ordinary life you you always find. people around you who are a little bit more crazy than you listen but i think that that's absolutely right but that's no excuse. for example i love traveling but would you consider taking your wife kid in airplane living in a hotel in do you consider that traveling. more for you this is this is rubbish i mean no no of course not i hate the idea you know if you you think you are.
4:55 am
you are only who do very poor george may there is travelers that arkell like that you know it's superiority complex i don't i don't like that i am not a toll considering that there is a type of journey which is better than another way of travelling no i just think it's not the same thing in one case you put your life in a travel and in those occasions you make a little travel among your life but. it's not the same thing ok last question you were there. great for people called a short story yeah yeah for sure story how important it was was it for you to do it was it really like something very big in your life or were not really. well. i want to know the price which was big big in my life which was the media price for my book about my journey in the wood in the taiga and that's why that was a very very big printing for me because the contrast is huge between leaving you
4:56 am
know hurt alone in the middle of the of nowhere and the tiger fishing and fish every day in the back alley and then you come back in perry you write this book and then everybody is going writing you and it's very funny because in one case you're alone and loans are kids you know you meet a lot of people who are can make you congratulation and this was a big contrast but of course the sprites are wonderful because they are showing you that there is again people who are considering these very very old thing which is writing. thank you. yeah thank you for being with us and just a reminder that sydney bat is still a french traveler writer journalist and filmmaker was was my guest on the show just spotlighted will be back with more comment from the monthly on in and out censure for the length of stay on our team to take you. please.
