the bloodbath in egypt continues as crowds storm a prison where twenty one inmates are sentenced to death for their part in a football stadium massacre last year it's amid continuing clashes after. the second anniversary of the revolution that toppled mubarak. as egypt. president managed to turn high expectations to anger and plummeting approval ratings across the middle east. and the u.k. is at risk of entering uncharted territory with a triple dip recession as new figures show the country's economy shrank again in the last quarter of two thousand and twelve.

around the world on line on screen. twenty four hours a day at least twenty eight people including police officers and two football players have reportedly been killed in egypt. where crowds of attempted to storm a prison rampages continue throughout the city following the execution order against twenty one people accused of stirring up last year's stadium violence in the city which claimed seventy four lives correspondent bill true is in cairo with the latest. the violence continues in egypt city a poor sign as we've now heard that dozens have been killed hundreds have been injured after this very contentious verdicts the army have been deployed to the streets and where this is a missing tanks in addition the police forces have reportedly shut access to the city also trains are being stopped at least one stop before to the no one can

actually enter meanwhile here in the capital the ultra ultra high school football fans who were the ones targeted in the massacre in february last year cuban scenes when they heard the verdict a gathering at their headquarters saying that finally justice had been president mohamed morsi council travel plans to spend to get out of a bar and has been meeting with the national defense council to try and come up with a way of resolving this deepening crisis i've just come from a street off square where the clashes continue between protesters and security forces spilling over from of course the clashes yesterday on the second anniversary of generating the five revolution speaking to people in the clashes and also those behind me here in tahrir square they're saying they're still very upset with the president who they believe has not made any changes opposition coalition the national salvation front had a press conference recently and declared fine demands saying they believe the
11:03 am
present moment morsi is not capable of bringing the country they've called for a national salvation government to take over in the interim early presidential elections and they've also announced they will be boycotting the parliamentary elections which is set to happen in april so there's a lot of anger here just from a political level as well as from a street level in a background of continuing violence and division across the country. let's get more now on the story from freelance journalist who joins me live from cairo now the defendants obviously committed a crime but it's a death sentence a bit too much for a secular and apparently democratic state like egypt. well they have the death penalty in egypt so i guess they could be they could executed it's. reaction though would that provoke not just amongst egyptians but also from those who supported the revolution two years ago western countries.
11:04 am
well i would guess western countries and be opposed to it but i think. aside from the death penalty issue is that these people who are not the people that might get the death penalty those are not actually the people it's not actually certain that these are the people who actually committed the crimes they might just be. scapegoats for. for the for the actual people that committed so what we're seeing we're seeing and it isn't just about the football roger sentence but what's behind it the corruption the way that the authorities and the way that freedoms are being perhaps restricted in egypt just two years on after the revolution yeah exactly exactly that that's exactly what it is it's people basically buying their freedom by the people in prison. and what about the violence that we're seeing in tahrir square against morsi of course is coinciding with the anniversary of the revolution
11:05 am
as well as the president trying to rush through that new constitution which is heavily based on shari'a law is the dominance of islamism the main issue here. look the people protesting in front of their not so much protesting because of the course a verdict them also protesting against the regime. and yet they are now i mean that used to be against mubarak and now they are going to the constitution that was just rushed through a few weeks ago. they're against it but will the authorities listen and indeed when we say that sort of reaction we get from the u.s. obviously the u.s. was supporting the revolution the past first place but what are they doing now in order to support those protests as we're seeing in tahrir square i think the big issue for the u.s. is just to maintain friendly with whoever is in charge in egypt and i don't think they really care about the people on the ground so to say so they just want to maintain good with whoever is in charge and at this point that's mohamed morsi and

the muslim brotherhood or i just briefly want to see more turmoil than continue in the country. at least for the next few days i guess yeah all right thanks very much indeed just a moment for lots of this joining me live in cairo and how did show me editor of all kids online newspaper says the people of egypt grow increasingly disillusioned with the politics of the muslim brotherhood. we voted for them to give them a chance. at the last. for most of the people who are out in the streets to the people in egypt now do realize that. religion and politics should not be mixed clearly and some. would use slam and religion to get the support of the people and once
11:07 am
the are in our view would in a very very differently from what the have been promising and that's. one of the reasons of the anger you seeing to the industry to egypt and americans want some risk ability to ensure and secure their interests in egypt right now be there be united states nor morsi himself much say what's happening to the people of egypt who are back in the streets. free of the. egypt was at the forefront of the pro-democracy uprisings in the middle east the us supported the revolts as we mentioned alone in that live interview hoping that barack obama's promise of change for the region would bear fruit however after a wave of anti-american protests all the hopes his famous current speech try to inspire have been dashed r.t. for a split investigates why i've come here to cairo to seek
11:08 am
a new beginning between the united states and muslims around the world words of promise that field of region with hope but as obama begins his second term in office his critics failed him on a first term f.l. hotshot expectations progress on peace between israelis and palestinians remain stored the promised economic development of afghanistan never took root. and american relations with post mubarak egypt deteriorated and i didn't fifty the u.s. and elegance community has more or less thought that it was in control of something called the muslim brotherhood and they brought them from egypt into saudi arabia and i think they thought they could just break out of that was it all they could have. asked are it was or are and their fight now that i'm not leaking oil is also. in libya the u.s. supported the intervention by nato and its allies touting it as a great advance to build security entry and rights but the fallout from it ended
11:09 am
with the death of the american ambassador and three other members of his staff the united states was overselling their so-called triumph over al qaida in a way that was really quite dishonest and dangerous because it was essentially setting the united states up for situations where. elsewhere was still not just strong but getting stronger and was getting stronger because of policies that the united states had followed and it was washington's politics that did little to win palestinians over to obama's side washington was against the upgraded status of palestine at the united nations angering but not surprising and stimulus i would say that the people in general. stop thinking of him as a somebody who will do and all do us any favor or any good we realize that
11:10 am
all our expectations which were very high turned out to be zero as a matter of fact islamophobia inside the united states is on the increase helped in no small part of by the growing negative portrayal of the muslim world in the media and hollywood recent polls show overall confidence in obama has dropped especially in muslim countries where it declined by nine percent in three years global approval of his international policies is also decreased from a positive rating of thirty four percent in the muslim world in two thousand and nine to just fifteen percent in two thousand and twelve. obama came just to beautified the ugly face but bush laughed it's american interests that lead american presidents the only difference is that while one president smiles the other doesn't and the american system and american interest in the middle east are the problem it's not the issue it is
11:11 am
a political issue and that's why i didn't have a lot of hope that the arab antipathy has not been softened by obama's support for the arab spring or his military withdrawal from iraq few american presidents have lost a good standing with the arab world as quickly and as significantly as a bomber for him now to renew trust in america he'll have to do more than just promise a new beginning in a cairo speech policy r.t. tel aviv. former cia officer john kiriakou has been sentenced to two and a half years behind bars for leaking classified intelligence his supporters have called for the sentence to be reducing the real reason behind the punishment was him going public on washington's torture tactics but a federal judge rejected arguments he was acting as a whistleblower when he leaked a covert agents name to a reporter by email a cia veteran retired back in two thousand and four and was outspoken about the use of secret interrogations and waterboarding by the u.s. he could have been sentenced to eight years in prison had he not secured

a plea deal with prosecutors author and activist believes that insiders will be targeted and punished for making a stand as long as u.s. authorities continue to cover up wrongdoing. we do see this type of witch hunt action against those who leak information that exposes either government criminality or government waste fraud abuse so this is still active behind he has had a single case where was the glorious happy success all by pursuing dogs so how channels reading grandbabies are solutions that these very big problems wrongdoings . so when you have no channels there is only one option and that is to get information put it before the public whether it's through our website such as we you leaks or public citizens journalists there's the you know mainstream media they act as the extension of the government here in the united states there are no other
11:13 am
channels to go to and the public has the right to know and begin to have is a very important point the public and i'm not talking about only people here in the united states but all over the world because people are being that they are doing was being criminalized. a lot of things coming from the historic baikonur cosmodrome of late has not been the roar of russian rockets but rather a row over the environmental impact because it stands demands are now threatening to derail russia's entire space program there were earlier my colleague spoke to ortiz. about the story. baikonur has been the launch pad for soviet and russian space exploration program of course men's first ever space flight took off from that very base but now from that a lustrous past is facing an uncertain future with speculation it could even be abandoned now most cars currently leasing the cosmodrome for
11:14 am
a hefty annual fee of over one hundred million dollars but it's fears of environmental damage that's causing concern for the more specifically they are concerned over the launch of proton rockets which with the fuel tanks which are shed by the craft after liftoff containing traces of rocket fuel which would you believe it is highly toxic but for moscow's point of view the huge annual rental fee together with the jobs provided to local people make the leasing arrangements a highly positive one for us tonight but just days ago both the russian and foreign ministers tried to gloss over any signs of friction they have assured the media that any so-called space war is not happening and a mutual agreement has been reached for the future between the two countries many people know nasa budget has certainly been slashed by washington although india and china have got surging space programs we know that russia now really has the busier space program in the world that must mean they have some we must have some pretty big plans for the near or not too distant future russia does keep its options open
11:15 am
first of all the are working on the new cosmodrome which is called of us torch me it means eastern in russian and as you may have guessed it's going to be located in the far east near the border with china and the construction has begun just two years ago and russian space agency has caused most. should have two of its launch pads fully operational by twenty fifteen twenty eighteen at the latest and that will mark the beginning of the most step for the country's space exploration program in decades to the moon by twenty twenty says of course most adding they were. to establish lunar bases and finish it all off with a manned trip to mars by twenty thirty and if these plans seem too otherworldly to you well they certainly do not look as such to the russian government which has approved the budget of trillion rubles that's roughly seventy five billion dollars
11:16 am
for the space industry until twenty twenty during not just a veil over your own privacy check out the clothes that would raise in the skies the drones could see the cloak of invisibility is coming away a little later plus. i don't think people take it as serious as the government takes it to be should we should we take it more serious ease up then you know it's ruzicka. new york resident downloads local opinion on whether it's right to file share more and that's and plenty of the stories were after this break. we speak your language or not a day in. the program seems documentaries in spanish what matters to you breaking news i want to turn to angle stories. here.

news continues here in britain it's at risk of slipping into recession for the third time since the beginning of the global financial crisis four years ago the country's economy shrank by point three percent in the last quarter of twenty twelve and achieved zero growth of the world's sixth largest economy was blamed on the recession in the eurozone bad weather affecting agriculture and a temporary drop in oil and gas output in. the country would find itself in recession if the economy contracts again in the first quarter of twenty. global rating agencies have placed britain on negative watch richard institute of economic affairs in london mark littlewood says the government should have a different approach to such a burning issue. of course we need to bear in mind when you look back actually a couple of years later often these numbers are revised up or down so we shouldn't really trust them to the very last decimal point what we've seen it appears over
11:19 am
twenty twelve is not the british economy absolutely tanking but basically flat lining and that has pretty much been the picture for the last two years it's not a crushing recession but it's certainly not a parent's back certainly what the coalition government here in the u.k. are doing isn't working if the aim is to produce growth rates or two or three percent and indeed the government's independent forecasters suggested two years ago that we would be experiencing those sort of levels and growth of growth in the u.k. economy about now and i'm afraid that has turned out to be a pipe dream but let's be clear about this austerity that that use a lot does saying that the u.k. government has persuaded itself and most of the media and all of their political opponents to that there is some savage program of spending cuts being undertaken in the united kingdom that's a long way from the truth when you actually look at the numbers rather than the political rhetoric the government is cutting spending by about one percent a year
11:20 am
a pretty trivial amount and they are taking far too long to bring the budget back into balance but you also need i think a clearer plan but what's really going to attract business investment in the u.k. and what's going to make it easier for entrepreneurs. while the movers and shakers of the money world have been debating the future of the global economy at the annual forum in davos r.t. caught up with russia's at a minium tycoon only get get a pass go for an exclusive interview and the full version will air on sunday but here's a brief preview of what he had to say about russia's economic reality. russia not just moscow russia not just resource sector you know russia is a ways to put you into you know from the dual still to some peters group from a good culture to a tee. because you know we should have been a better financial system but no one could grow it's a mathematical it's not enough to here were a. financial system it's

wounded on friday violence erupted when the army tried to prevent worshipers coming out of friday prayers from joining an anti government demonstration. washington is looking to beef up the number of drones manning the skies over the u.s. to tens of thousands by twenty twenty all in the name of national security but a bigger brothers forcing many americans to search for creative ways to protect their civil liberties started turning into has been. keeping a close eye on civilians with a little help of drugs. in a move up. move by congress in seven years the u.s. will help thirty thousand mester drones monitoring its territory from the air that opens the door for a lot of abuses of privacy. from not just the government but corporations and businesses too. in a fight for privacy this new york designer came up with a counter-surveillance clothing line intended to shield people from those watchful lenses a burka a scarf and a hoodie are the key garments in the collection this is
11:24 am
a garment that's designed to be thermally reflective which means that he bounces off it and he does what suits for thermal imaging in particular this technology is used a lot on drones and he would use if there were drawings harboring about manhattan anybody who is out on the streets is clearly traceable the idea of this collection is that putting on something like this. is a bit are. these parts of your body become very hard to detect. from a potential fashion statement to a technology that could eventually be used in rescue operations or even on a battlefield i think are just thing. a market hasn't been addressed yet it's a new area and it's sort of a crossover between tactical and fashion it adds a little extra coverage to the face adam harvey calls his consumer market unfashionably paranoid if you appear to me and i can see you i'm quite alright with
11:25 am
that but if you appear in automated systems and how it becomes a little more to your disadvantage because this data can be easily mine tracked and identified another counter-surveillance item in the collection the off pocket for a phone once a mobile device is put inside there are no more signals going in and out the strength of the cell phone signal out of one hundred goes down to zero in seconds from analyze fabric and that acts as a ferret in a cage to block the signals from the phone. adam says this is a faster way to turn off your phone and block trucking since the introduction of the patriot act and since then there's been a large erosion of privacy i would say is not. confined to the us either this is a global problem to start a conversation and make people more aware of the growing trend of surveillance through fashion is adam's goal the designer admits the clothing line is not for

angry about it and send people to jail that are not the problem is that they're being wrong is that people who need to make money don't make their money. should they just figure out a new way is it up to them or is that up to us to stop taking it. have you never stolen anything off the web for moral reasons or just because you never have never have known how to if it were easy and you did know how to would you do it more often if i knew how to do it i mean criminals every day doing bad things with expelling you know should it be free should music in movies be free no not autistic or social by you but. i don't think people take it as serious as the governmentally rodeos takes its we should we should we take it more serious hard to ease up and you know it's music but it's not money coming out of your pocket like it has out of the artists or directors or studios. i don't know mobile size of the firm so i
11:28 am
think it's been. sort of issue to me it is what it was how do we stop people from stealing though if it's so easy i think they need to appreciate the arts and media and they will appreciate and steal music dad i think it's better to give a dollar to the arts than you know a politician or your government yes of course or cigarettes but maybe if some of it will go to some kind. of the nation maybe it will inspire people to do so do you think though that you know the future is going to have a whole different landscape for intellectual property that will view it differently like it's kind of everyone's. i don't know i haven't really thought about it i mean i guess if you write a song you'd still yours so you should still have get credit for it at least ninety nine cents and you had so much. you should get something whether or not you think file sharing is the future of the internet the bottom line is enough people do it to pose a serious threat to current business models. well
