the british parliament. worldwide news live from moscow this is he with me rule received thank you very much for joining us today. it's now fifty days since the biggest hunger strike began that america's war on terror detention facility with no progress being made to stop the protest which could be close to. justice. treatment has seen three of the protesting inmates hospitalized. at least ten being force fed at the time being. this hunger strike at the guantanamo bay detention center grows more dangerous by the day the international

committee of the red cross has announced that they have sent a doctor and another delegate to the island prison a week earlier than planned because of concerns surrounding the health of those hunger strikers participating in this protest now the i.c.r.c. representatives are scheduled to make a regular two week visit to the detention camp on april first but as we already just reported the organization says that they sent two representatives early due to the issues in the concerns relating to the hunger strike now in the meantime navy captain robert duran to spokesman for the detention operation who we've been communicating with. confirms that thirty one of the one hundred sixty six get no prisoners are on hunger strike a leaven of the men are being force fed three of those men were hospitalized for rehydration an observation now two weeks ago when r.t.
11:03 am
reached out to captain duran and he dismissed any reports or allegations of a mass hunger strike taking place at the detention facility within the past day we spoke with attorney carlos warner he recently went to go visit his clients for the phrase. he's been charged with war crimes but his attorney when speaking to our she read a statement from his client let's take a listen to that quote i scare myself when i look in the mirror let them kill us as we have nothing to lose we died when obama indefinitely detained us respect us or kill us it's your choice the u.s. must take off its mask and kill us mr warner said that his client has lost more than thirty pounds in a month that his client looked exhausted weak it was not just about treatment this

is about the fact that these inmates of these detainee detainees have lost hope these are men they're not animals that are people that we have grown to know many of the men the ones that are indefinitely detained they have zero hope they have no hope because of the ministration i think many of them are ready to die the question is how and when will they. know this hunger strike began according to attorneys on or around february sixth attorneys say that the prisoners went on the strike to protest the a legit confiscation of their personal items and they allege it sacrilege is handling of their korans there's one hundred sixty six six prisoners languishing still kuantan of the more than half of them have been cleared for either transfer or release attorneys say that by holding these men without charge without trial the united states is violating international laws of human rights. art is more
11:05 am
important i reporting for the past seven weeks the hunger strike has been taking place we've been gathering statements from lawyers activists prison officials and international organizations here's some of the stuff right here some of the details for you at r.t. dot com it's our special timeline giving you more insider into the ongoing situation guantanamo bay prison you can also see what kind of reaction the protest has invoked so far from all around the world where you can always give us your opinion on this ongoing story at r.t. dot com we're asking what the result of the ongoing hunger strike at get most will be worth a look at the immediate short term prophecies here the voting at r.t. dot com showing that nearly two thirds or so of our voters saying that well the prisoners will ultimately die only token policy changes will result just down to just under twenty percent of our voters from dot com saying they get most will indeed be closed but indefinite detention will continue coming in
11:06 am
a pretty close third position where they can do conditions for the prisoners could improve and what else will the hunger strike do a quantum obey will the bare minimum six percent of our voters saying well bad press leads to an end of indefinite detention rather optimistic perhaps right there we're still taking your vote at r.t. dot com never too late for you to get involved. for now credit rating agencies are ringing alarm bells over cyprus saying the e.u.'s bungled rescue has sent investors packing across europe brussels bailed out the tax haven strong with some of the harshest conditions yet to being a massive deposit e.u. banks are now reporting mass calls from fearful savers who are looking to get their money out of the block and. founder and c.e.o. of blacksmith energy consulting he says the e.u.'s approach to solving the crisis has been less than ideal. i think the debate here is obviously much broader than
11:07 am
the particular case of cyprus and the political message that's being conveyed behind the the high end of the base and been going on for the last week or so are clearly underlining. the lack of a lack of vision behind europe's bailout the particular case of cyprus shows a political move where we're we're we're we're trying to. to heal a deep wound with a band-aid obviously cyprus is again a particular case but the overall discussion and the overall worry and fear that is that is underlying here is is for for every european citizen. this is artsy the new global bank is being born in south africa where the world's top emerging economies are currently meeting and the new financial powerhouse would be a direct challenger to the world bank and the i.m.f. of course both dominated by america and the dollar's fairing poorly there as well
11:08 am
with brazil russia india china and south africa mulling the idea of partially ditching greenback trade citing how vulnerable it is to future crises and at the summit in durban is our go to prison offer joining us live now here on the program hugo it's good to see you so a lot of commitments a lot of promises being made can they be held to. well the leaders of all five brics member states were very optimistic in terms of the future of the organization they all stressed that it is potential is still far from being used to the fore and actually one of the latest initiatives to change that is the creation of the so-called business council to get the business of the five states to get directly engaged in more joint ventures in various fears also earlier china and brazil decided to use their national currencies in at least well in nearly a half of the payments between them only the trade turn or between the two states
11:09 am
stands at around seventy five billion euros dollars and the general idea is for all other members of the brics to do the same to protect their economies from things like currency wars or the possible negative consequences of the change of the dollar of war the us also the five leaders of the world alternately able to agree on which we know of a joint development bank possibly with a starter capital of around fifty billion us dollars but it's a massive project and it's going to take time to work out all the details but in general for the past two decades these five economies have been the most rapidly developing ones in the world currently it's estimated that their growth is around seven times faster than that of the g seven economies it's also thought that by the year twenty twenty combined the brics states will make up around twenty percent of the global g.d.p. so it's no wonder why they want to protect their economies why they want to trade freely and how they wish between themselves and be less dependent on the western
11:10 am
financial institutions especially in light of the latest problems with the western economic model in general and what we witnessed here at this summit in south africa is that brics as an organization is transforming from a forum for dialogue to a full scale mechanism for strategic cooperation and more states are voicing their g. to join the organization including egypt and russia's president vladimir putin has also met with his egyptian counterpart the ties between the two countries are quite strong both economic and cultural actually last year he just was visited by well two and a half a million russian tourists despite all the turbulence both in more than africa and in the middle east and it's expected that these issues are also going to be discussed including the crisis in syria. t.j. got this going off air live from the bricks summit in durban south africa thank you .
11:11 am
well i responded to the bric summit charles robinson the global chief economist of a renaissance capital he says the idea of the group's own bank comes as the result of the slow pace of change it established institutions the architecture of international finance who set up in the 1940's to reflect the reality then which is obviously american power the u.k.'s power and europe in general so there are changes happening to the i.m.f. and to the world bank but still we know that the head of these organizations is an american and is a european even though they've been a strong challenge i think the brics are saying they can't be bothered to wait any longer for the i.m.f. and world bank to change more dramatic you think of the start making changes on their own. well there's not been a total consensus and
11:12 am
a completely friendly atmosphere between all participants of the matter as you can see right behind me now a south african guards nearly engaged in a brawl with russian president vladimir putin's security detail after the leader walked into the venue some of his men were while they were refused entry certainly after some pushing and shoving ensued as you can see right here that the russians were then asked to leave the building walls well that ends well the group was eventually let inside obviously just a case of mis identification. now the united states is supporting bashar al assad's policies in syria at least that's what the leader of the opposition council says after his request for affectively imposing a partial no fly zone over syria was denied by washington more of that coming up in just a few here on r.t. . and a major countrywide surveillance plan in america hits a stumbling block because local governments say a foot. to the drone initiative this more after the break.

man is respected by criminals and also if he's a like. people like he used to be. for the homeless. here with us here in all it's he on real research i live in moscow. at the leader of the opposition syrian national council has accused washington of supporting president assad that's after the u.s. made it clear it won't fulfill his request to shoot down syrian warplanes with a nato patriot missiles deployed in neighboring turkey by the arab league meanwhile has handed syria's seat in the body to the opposition it also officially endorsed member states to send to the rebel fighters and the russian foreign ministry has reacted by saying the moves are in a just

a minute and only encourage more bloodshed in syria a bio me as a kiwi the editor of the pan-african news wire he says the arab league is only looking out for itself when extending the weapons support to the rebels. we also have to understand the little composition of the arab league has been dominated a little last several years by the gulf emirates these elite forces are operating in countries that are not democratic themselves therefore they have no real moral basis for criticism of the government in damascus also on these arab emirates in the gulf. with the united states and north atlantic treaty organization so it's really not surprising that in kata you would have a situation where the syrian government would be attacked and that you would have these opposition forces who are heavily divided themselves who have no real program

for the future of syria and who have lot of been reluctant and even obstinate in regard to negotiate any type of political settlement to the conflict in syria to be seated as a legitimate government of syria. and how the syrian conflict is increasingly spreading beyond its borders finding itself at the crossroads of foreign interests and that's up for debate of course in people of alice cross talk show that's coming up in about fifteen minutes time. syria's supply. it was believed supplied was thinking seriously that inside they have to. go give a talk saying that iran is seriously need to go through here is a lot of situational it's false or just it's not true iran's role in the syrian uprising is really negligible because at the present moment there is the western powers the us. they must just. think.
11:17 am
i live the same time they are pouring petrol on a fire. to stay with us across talking about a fifteen minutes time for now the u.s. government hopes to increase the number of its surveillance drones to ten thousand men next seven years and the plans will be easy to realize though as local authorities are not happy at all about the idea of being watched around the clock he's got a nature can report on the resistance create a one point this documentary on u.s. public television touts the technological capabilities of drones and their new super sensors this image was taken seventeen thousand five hundred feet above quantico virginia and covers fifteen square miles if we wanted to know what is going on in any spot along the seam i'd say near this building this intersection we can generate and moving image that shows what's going on in the area the state of

virginia was the first to stand up against this kind of surveillance in early february the state legislature passed a two year moratorium on the use of drones but the bill is yet to be signed by the state's governor who is known to be very supportive of the spy aircrafts. charlottesville virginia police have never used drones but the city council has nonetheless restricted their use just in case these this technology is already being heavily marketed to local law enforcement agencies and other groups and there's even one county in virginia that already purchased two drones for surveillance and so we know it's coming and we just we want to get out ahead of it at least twenty seven states are now considering legislation to outline how drones can be used by law enforcement or to ground them all together but there are those who believe the lawmakers at first. the rise of the spy planes so they're taking the matter into their own hands a company in oregon says it has developed and will soon start selling to knowledge

that could shield people from surveillance drones over the phone the developer did not offer any details but said this or not this able in their cameras or anything like that we are not doing anything physically to the drones we are simply not allowing their cameras to look at areas. also in the battle for privacy a designer in new york came up with a name to sebelius clothing line this is a garment that's designed to be firmly reflective which means that he bounces off it and he does what's he was for thermal imaging in particular this technology is used a lot on drones and he would use but it's doubtful that this designers gear however creative could compete with the cutting edge spight acknowledging now being developed for government use a million terabytes of video a day which is the equivalent of five thousand hours of high definition footage so you can go back and say i would like to see what happened in this particular

to many of the questions. well since cullen the famous british landmark in london's trafalgar square built commemorate admiral nelson he died in the past or to fall in eighty nine by this also now we are one of the questions persons with. the way he is being criticized focusing too much on historical information and not enough on practical knowledge it's become a standard joke and i mean that you know for something which is supposed to be taken seriously and you know when it was first announced we were involved in a few little quiz sessions where even you know prominent members of the people who were in the past being prominent members of the government were being asked questions like who was the british king who expelled the danes for. i'm guessing completely and hopelessly wrong and yet his discipline says these. they must first say that by putting british culture and history at the heart of the system that

conflict taking place in syria but it's watching the situation unfolding very very closely israel has many concerns regarding what's happening in syria today first and foremost the chemical weapons cache held by the assad regime and there's really concern that may fall into the wrong has or may be used. as a last resort second this is been the quietest border along israel's borders for forty almost forty years and the concern is for a possible spillover of the situation in syria to the area of the girl on her it through to the syrian israeli border like we saw this week when some rebels were firing at israeli troops that were patrolling on the go and it's so first and foremost is rose interested in peace quiet tranquility and the situation not affecting its own security and well being of its citizens ok in london would you like to jump in here it's a.
