i spoke with and speckhard a leading expert on terror psychology on why westerners end up. in the ranks of terrorists some people over here and in canada i was just up in canada talking about are going over to syria to be to join freedom fighters and they really believe they're there fighting for freedom but they get there and it's a chaotic situation. may be looking a factor and once you're in a chaotic war torn environment your emotions are. scared and you may just affiliate with a group that you might not otherwise have affiliated with the official message that these are freedom fighters and they need to be helped in some way it just confuses them even more about a really good point because you know we are calling this a fight for freedom we are speaking about it on the media that it's freedom fighting so when someone feels strongly about it and wants to go and how. are we to

blame. but then when they get open they're afraid joy in a group that's been designated as a terrorist group it's confucian probably and we need to get straight on that we need to decide exactly what we're going to do about syria i think that we have a very confused response ourselves as a government right now since the start of the arab spring the u.s. media has already damage over a freedom fighter featuring stories with the likes of mass event don't ask an american who first fought with libyan rebels and then switched to syria i fought in the war in libya in two thousand and eleven and i saw the effects of what we accomplished and i want syrians to our freedoms well. in recent months the obama administration has tried to publicly distance itself from radical islamists fighting among the syrian rebels by saying washington supports the more moderate forces among the opposition. but on the ground in syria in the middle of a bloody civil war that line is blurred many of those in the syrian opposition who

washington supports welcomed the efforts of radical groups like on the street. while politicians argue about who is a terrorist and who is a freedom fighter or who is a terrorist that can be useful now or dealt with later young westerners like eric or me by themselves confused about what they're fighting for in a place like syria in washington i'm going to check on. a hunger strike about one town i'm obey detainees and shows no signs of ending as it nears the eight week mark of lawyers representing some of the inmate to say they clients are ready to die unless their demands are met the prisoners want an end to an indefinite detention and intrusive searches loyalism activists to say that the vast majority of the one hundred and sixty six detainees at the facility are taking part in u.s. military initially denied reports of the protests but now says that only thirty seven prisoners are involved most of the inmates there have been cleared for

release but the government is still keeping them behind bars the white house has stated its committed to shutting down the prison but the pentagon says it's also set for a fifty million dollar renovation cindy a lawyer for one of the hunger strikers told archies kavanagh when what she saw. i met with him from tuesday through thursday every day and when i first met with him on tuesday i was extremely shocked to see that he had lost about forty pounds from the last time that i saw him and he was in a terribly weak state he was bending over from stomach pains he also said that he had not eaten since february sixth so he was one of the initial hunger strikers and he was in a terribly bad state when i saw you so you can confirm when our viewers are hearing i was told where there's maybe a hard room we're talking about some of these guys being close to death this is what you've actually seen with your own. i've seen it with my own eyes and i heard

him tell me he's supposed to have another meeting with his military council. in the following week and he told me to let them know that he may not be in a state to meet with them he maybe by the time they come see him he may be in isolation or he may be under medical watch or he may be being force fed by that time and really not be able to meet with them and he wanted me to take that message to them is this brinkmanship how long is it going to tell you how long do you estimate it's going to take before maybe someone dies who's going to blink first or the hunger strike is maybe going to back off is the government going to do anything what's going to. well you know the you know my meetings with mike with my client last week and his conversations with other straight you know other detainees and prisoners who are also on strike they are prepared to stand up for the principles of not having their religious practices disrespected not having the qur'an

desecrated and now it's become an even bigger message that they want to deliver which is that they have been now detained since you know two thousand too many of them mike i and for eleven years now since two thousand and two some of them are cleared for release have been declared in the sim by the united states however the u.s. refuses to transfer them and the congress refuses to provide funds for that the obama administration has closed the office that it had set up in the state department to study the closure of guantanamo and carry that out and it hasn't happened and so this has gone beyond the jesse creation of the qur'an the disrespect of their religion and they're now also protesting the worsening conditions as these prison officials are essentially retaliating against them and trying to end the strike by making conditions harsher and just cheney's have been enduring all of this and plan to continue to do so. the hunger strike calls the hundreds to stage

international and world in the very heart of moscow. welcome back you're watching archie with me to bomb would say a sign praise comes to terms with sylvia e.u. bailout cash controls millions of euros are alleged to have been spirited out of the country just days before the euro group where is the punishing levy on bank deposits that's what a local newspaper is reporting pointing the finger at a company related to present an associate has the firm are called by the supreme leader's

of the eurozone but the problem was. eight times more turnover. balances of pain compared to be cheated times wards of this is absolutely unsustainable if ever but if you would within the european union people where the mass media the newspapers where all the time complaining something must be done so nobody should be surprised government not one but the previous government led by a former communist who should have done much earlier the reduction of the size of the financial sector i mean this is variable you cannot have such a huge financial sector as a jude banks. you can watch the full interview with yourself later today at eight hundred forty five g m t now they came out it does issue asian surrounding of these bailout has once again unavailable flaws in europe's financial system and it's not

the for its whole the e.u. is trying to patch is struggling to find a way out of the cash crisis later today peter bell and his panel of guests the debate how western finances have managed to fall into the. this capitalism there's been around for a while i mean these the bailouts of two thousand and eight follow on from the earlier bailout in one thousand nine hundred five of the goldman sachs. that was of the screw the huge crisis goldman sachs needed to bail out over its loans to mexico that was the bailout of the s n l's that was the bailout of the banks in the one nine hundred eighty s. each time there was this bailout we are the same situation which is that the bankers go to government and say well we've taken all these risky loans and if you don't bail us out the entire economy of the world will come tumbling down and the politicians are don't know whether this is true or not and immediately whip out their checkbooks and write it out this is what capitalism is and therefore what is

precisely that the richest of all doubt they continue to earn the massive bonuses while everybody else has to pay for the risky loans and the risky you know nonsensical decisions where's the personal responsibility in all of this i mean if there is nobody willing to take on loans that they couldn't afford to pay that back or take on mortgages that they couldn't afford to pay. there wouldn't be a crisis i mean if if banks where they're saying to people look i want to force this loan upon me when if people said look i really can't pay that i really shouldn't be taking that because it's out of my knee and that i should be very interesting nearly right on the way around what is the other way around of the another way around isn't it the other way around when these banks are these people who are not paying. the

united states has sent a f train to still fighter jets to participate in ongoing military drills with south korea pyongyang earlier said it was in a state of war with the south following the latest round of sanctions over its nuclear test two months ago in turn saw one that is ready to carry out a preemptive strike on its neighbor if they believe an attack is eminent james cobbett hopes other corporate report joins us now for more on the if you make of it we know that tension is running high in the peninsula but why does a soul in washington to decide to hold military drills during such a sensitive time well i suppose the official answer to that would be that this is just part of any all military joint military drills that are held always around this time of year but i think that we have to see that this being done in the midst of this provocation in this rising tension as an as a self admitted attempt to be to ratchet up things and to put a little bit of pressure on pyongyang i think that this has to be seen as an attempt to try to rein in some of this bellicose rhetoric that we've been hearing
6:17 am
the last few days and to try to do something to to put some of the chips on the table but i think that this has the possibility of ratcheting things up to the point where tensions might actually spill over as a result of this and we saw that recently with the deployment of b. two nuclear armed bombers in south korea recently which is not only worrying i think to pyongyang but also to china to have nuclear bombers that close on the korean peninsula there on the on china's southern border i think that china will be pleased with that either so this is this is quite an escalation that's taking place right now so what actions would prompt dissolve the korea to actually carry out a preemptive strike against its neighbors. well i don't know if that's something that we're looking at really realistically i think that the most likely scenario here would be some sort of blunder or misinterpretation on one side or the other because everything is on the knife edge as as i've said before i think that really the all of the players here have
6:18 am
a vested interest in keeping the tension up but not allowing it to spill over and i think that obviously works for north korea which could be easily wiped out in military confrontation but it also works for south korea and america and all of the allies here in this region that are that also serve to benefit from this and we've seen this directly for example with the announcement of more missile defense on the western coast of the united states that there are now going to be fourteen new ground based interceptors deployed at fort greely alaska at a cost u.s. taxpayers a one billion dollars by two thousand and seventeen so this is this is doing a fantastic business for the defense contractors who serve to to to feed into this tension and play off of it so i don't i think that honestly there isn't a lot of plans for preemptive strikes at this moment i think it's more a question of if this will accidentally spill over into something more so i mean how serious is this threat that i mean should america should washington take this seriously. well i think the thing to keep in mind is that the idea that there is
6:19 am
some sort of nuclear specter hanging over america at the moment is laughable at best certainly we know that the the wildly inaccurate type type two and three missiles even if they can actually reach the western part of the united states which is really just theoretical at this point but even if they could north korea is still by best the analyst estimates several years away from being able to miniaturize their nuclear devices onto warheads and even then the milk and the nuclear devices they have so far have only come within about one half of the the yield that the hiroshima bomb had and so quite small bombs in and of themselves so this isn't an imminent threat this isn't something that's going to strike out any day now i think in that sense so i don't think that this is a threat to the american mainland that aspect of it is being hyped up but if it serves two to justify one billion dollars worth of missile interceptors i think the defense contractors will be laughing all the way to the bank ok so then let me ask
6:20 am
you this i mean with hostile rhetoric coming from both sides should it isn't it time for the international community to sit both of them together and say let's negotiate what do you know why can make this go away this hot rhetoric that's threats of missiles and all of this what can it is that even possible. well there has to be some sort of change the status quo here and it is a question of what what sides can be brought to this table because obviously the six party talks have gone nowhere and in fact has really digressed in the last few years to the point where we're now at this stage again so i think there has to be some different players at the table and i think i think ultimately most people are expecting that this will evolve into into some sort of negotiation between us and china whether directly or indirectly through this confrontation but i think those are the two main players that are that are if eating into this right now and and which really do have killing in in the balance so i think that it's going to have to involve those parties at some point in some way but at this point i don't i just
6:21 am
don't see how that's going to rally. to certainly not within the framework of the six party talks as they've as they've existed over the past decade all right we'll have to see what happens then we're watching very closely mr james club head of the corporate reporting thank you very much for your insight on that this is sam right now we're always eager to find out what you think about the topics on issues that we talk about here on our team so we've got a poll on our web site at what else can you today why do you see the military standoff on the north korea in that standoff let's take a look at what you've said so far now almost half of those who voted think that the rising tensions are part of a u.s. strategy to destabilize china and east asia let's just take a look at better twenty two percent of you think that brinkmanship stalking armed conflict i mean which could result in armed conflict is it a dangerous situation is a lot of you still deciding there nineteen percent of all of us think that this is all of those people young as a way of demanding aid and only ten percent or rather nine percent of their view
6:22 am
think that kim jong il is just trying to strengthen his power base the at home we want to know what you think about the subject we talk a lot about it here in our to go vote. well there are troubles of dragging all of germany's seen as the economic giant that's keeping the eurozone up slopes as well as having to pay to help struggling countries it's also still carrying the burden of out the solidarity tax introduce

the unification with the countries east this as our g.'s b. to all of us found out is making many germans feel far from well off over the past twenty years states in the east of germany have received billions of bureau in taxpayer money to help with development after unification but now both paying the taxes here in the western part of germany say they're sick of paying too much for too long. it's time to finish this up we need this money more than them now. as a should know this is good enough is enough i know many of these that are doing very well better than she and it's time this test was scrapped. come of that's been twenty years too long now working people live in worse conditions we can't continue to pay for the east we gave them a future now this must stop. formally the region was home to germany's now pretty much defunct coal mining industry now the main cities in the us area face mounting
6:24 am
debts as they struggle to live up to their commitments as part of the solidarity pact which sends money to the east in a statement given to r.t. the lord mayor of dortmund says the practice of taking loans to pay their way could have dire consequences those cities that have high debts will soon be unable to borrow in order to remain part of the solidarity pact either that or conditions imposed will be so severe as to propel them faster towards bankruptcy the solidarity pact will remain in force until twenty nineteen by which time the west will have contribution of hundreds of billions of euro with the major cities in the region sinking further into the red those in the west of germany are suggesting that it's time for the east to help them out here right now we should be at the front of the line when it comes to financial help from the state. that will float this money needs to be spent in the best interest of the german people today there are cities that need aid. my generation can't be expected to pay for decisions made
6:25 am
by the previous generation. of voters look now in the east it looks much better and i just go and have a look at how bad it is around here it's like a pigsty as the east has been licked clean you don't have to go far to see the effect city debt is having on daily life here in the west local councils can't even afford to keep public swimming pools open while the continued use of taxpayer cash in the east is testing just how solid the germans feel the solidarity pact really is peter all other r.t. the region germany. we may soon be able to take a not so rounded look at what's going on in space russian scientists that planning to build a space observatory right on the means as beginning with a robot research lab in the near future. he reports now from somewhere in the outer limits almost half

a century since neil armstrong's giant step ended the race between the u.s. and u.s.s.r. to put a man on the moon earth's only natural satellite is once again in the spotlight while america has directed its attention to mars russia's central research institute for machinery announce the launch or rather relaunch of the lunar program according to the ambitious plan a russian space ship will fly two and circle the moon by twenty thirty but this promises to be only the beginning and here is where it gets very interesting the next step as these claims will be the construction of an observatory on the moon experts believe earth space rock is simply the perfect spot from which to research space so if this idea proves to be a success expect a laboratory there to the observatory and the lab may soon be followed by a helium mining shafts and if the moon really holds isis scientists believe this could produce both the water and oxygen which would make the earth's satellite inhabitable by humans hotels with rooftop swimming pools grocery stores and

scurrying around a decade or so rather than slamming the door shut on get mall i hate that term condemning it as one of the greatest mistakes in american history and gloriously declaring on t.v. channels and newspapers the country wide that it shall never be repeated again the pentagon instead wants to blow another forty nine million dollars expanding it even if you are one of the types of things that american gulags are super cool and awesome do you realize that it takes over one million dollars per year per prisoner to keep the place open are you sure you don't want that money to go towards something else like your children's education the thing that burns me up about this the most is that obama promised if elected to close guantanamo bay and as commander in chief of the armed forces he could do this whatever he wanted no amount of filibustering by the republicans could stop him obama you promised hundreds of millions of people to do something very simple start the paper work tomorrow buddy make the nation look better that's your job but that's just my opinion.
