in a three pm in moscow you're watching our team with me maureen and josh welcome to the program a two mile wide tornado has swept through a southern suburb of oklahoma city in the us leaving devastation and its wake. twenty children are among the ninety one reported dead as rescue operations continue in the central u.s. state with a further twenty four children feared to be trapped under the rubble of their school more than one hundred forty casualties have been admitted to local hospitals president obama has declared a major disaster in the city and announced federal aid for the area journalist sam sachs has more for us. so this afternoon a massive tornado ripped through oklahoma ripped through the areas around oklahoma city i was need for tornado is the second strongest tornado on the scale from you
7:02 am
one to you five that means winds over two hundred miles an hour the tornado was reportedly two miles wide something you don't see very often here wide swaths of residential area have been completely just decimate is though something you'd see after the hiroshima or nagasaki atomic bombings was just unbearable you were out in then you couldn't see stuff flying everywhere just about like on the movie twister . everything i know. my my pickup was sitting out there my daughter's car everything and rescuers are frantically searching through the rubble where there was an elementary school in line with the tornado reports are that there were seventy five students in staff in the school at the time the tornado hit and that school's been reduced to rubble rescuers are now combing through that school trying to pull out people alive and we have some reports that some children have indeed been pulled out alive
7:03 am
this series of sounds and then i found some news writing saying. this was one of about twenty eight tornadoes that touched down around the area in oklahoma kansas illinois i walked in to make matters worse the main hospital in moore oklahoma had to be evacuated for you know it sustained massive damage in the storm and storm as well so there's a considerable cleanup effort going on right now with search and recovery effort going on now that will go on through the night but this is something you know nearly unprecedented in the area. around three hundred homes were damaged or destroyed when the massive tornado ripped through the call home a suburb of bailey my oldest missed from green action an organization that's been dealing with the aftermath of the fukushima tragedy in japan says it takes years to get life back to anything like normal in areas hit by natural disasters i used to live near kansas and so i know you know the seriousness of of tornadoes i've
7:04 am
been once very close to one but i cannot imagine what hardship they are going through in pain. i don't know the situation there but i think that we have to be very careful and consider you know any kind of warning system should be completely not political you know the words it has to be on the best scientific knowledge and that is the way to protect the people as much as possible but a lot of times these decisions are political about what kind of warnings to issue or what kind of preparation to make and that's absolutely not excusable i don't know what the cases in oklahoma but i know that that's for sure in japan what happened but now we have in japan over three hundred three hundred ten thousand people still evacuated and living in limbo and trying to reestablish a life back where where you were located before i mean rebuilding complete cities
7:05 am
towns villages is just incredibly difficult also concerned for example in japan another tsunami would hit and so trying to prepare for it building up higher on the ground at cetera it just takes you know a whole generation or more and it's just so much hardship and to increase that hardship because of poor political decisions is just inexcusable. and you can track all the latest developments from oklahoma on our website r t v dot com we'll bring you details coverage with the latest pictures video and reaction from those at the scene. a fox news journalist is being accused of conspiracy after disclosing classified information he received from the state department advisor the f.b.i. claims james rosen could be charged as an accessory to a national security leak his colleagues say their outrage has been labeled
7:06 am
a criminal for doing his job as a reporter or he's going to cannes as journalists are alarmed at the u.s. government now appears to be treating them as whistleblowers. the u.s. justice department not only subpoena fox news reporters private e-mails but also said that james rosen was quote an aider and abettor and or coconspirator in the alleged crime so these words appear in a court document basically accusing the reporter of breaking the law for conducting the routine business of reporting on government secrets in the forty four pages of the justice department's application for the search warrant of mr rosen's g.-mail account you see e-mail exchanges between a state department employee identified as the alleged leaker and james rosen so the authorities have established that the communication between the two has led to rosen writing an article in two thousand and nine which said north korea planned to respond to looming u.n. sanctions with another nuclear test it's becoming obvious to journalists that the
7:07 am
administration is now targeting not just the leakers but also reporters just recently we learned that the u.s. justice department secretly obtained two months of telephone records targeting a.p. reporters and editors work and personal phone numbers a.p. believes more than one hundred of its journalists were caught up in this surveillance sweep the some president eight hundred full leaks has had an enormous chilling effect on investigative journalism the obama administration has brought more cases against whistleblowers than all previous presidents combined journalists have seen their sources drying out as government officials are much less inclined to share these days but now we see a different probably more alarming development the government making journalists the subject of their investigations and it's not clear what the government expects from journalists just to copy paste whatever they say in press releases if that is the case that would be the end of our profession. the fox news report case comes in
7:08 am
the wake of revelations the u.s. government tapped the phones of a.p. journalist something the agency's top executive described as a massive and unprecedented intrusion as father of the wide awake news portal charlie mcgrath told artie's sean thomas earlier the us media is paying a price for going beyond actual sources these networks that we're talking about are not new. you need opinion yet they're not going to to step outside the line of the government press conference they should just regurgitate exactly what the government puts out but if you have somebody that says and actually doesn't journalism yes you can expect retribution and i don't know who could possibly consider that and not to work that way in their decision to be investigated jools well if there is a leak that could compromise national security doesn't the government have the right to do everything that they can to stop that leak that you read the group is obviously stepping way outside of that bounds if you're talking about reporting
7:09 am
these information that is critical for this fruited populace yes it's going to be things that can be reported that shouldn't be leaked but you're really going after the journalist who's doing his job and not the in this sensitive dysfunctional government. in the first place now the government is investigating reporters in the hopes of finding leaks within its own ranks and you kind of touched on this just a second ago why do you think it has chosen this approach rather than looking for the source of the actually just scare the hell out of you buddy who dares to stand up to the party line to the edge and a lot and this isn't just the obama administration it's the previous administration it will be the next administration it's control of the government it's hubris at its worst and it's going to continue to rule the freedom of the people this country . now more than one hundred inmates in one tom o. have now been on a hunger strike for one hundred five days and drive to highlight abuses avenue tour his detention center one prisoner was reportedly shot several times last month by
7:10 am
a guard artist marine aboard none has a full story. thirty five year old detainee. was reportedly shot several times by get more cards last month his attorney ramsey cost some joins me now to speak exclusively to r.t. about what happened mr costin thank you for your time. when it was your client shot and what were the circumstances of the shooting on saturday april thirteenth of this year the last time all military prison at the station decided to raid them six the prison facility at guantanamo pipeline mr ali the president laid the conduct at that rate nor does it move all the prisoners into solitary confinement and that was just one additional way that the prison in this situation wanted to try to break the hunger strike what happened on that day according to mr allawi is that in the process he was shot without any warning for absolutely no good reason by one of the u.s. army guards had dangerously close range using rubber coated steel pellets that are
7:11 am
only safely use outside of a certain range he was shot in five places one shot was around the heart the other shot was in his elbow another was in his shoulder and there were a couple of impact on the size particularly the shot that went to his heart a dark horse of a range even a rubber coated steel pellet can penetrate skin and can be fatal the authorities are guantanamo endangered mr always life for no reason they gave him no warning they fired on him repeatedly and then following that fact they delayed the medical treatment that he should have received immediately as the u.s. government acknowledged that this shooting did take place absolutely and i received confirmation in writing by an e-mail from the department of justice that mr ali was sustained what they described as minor injuries but then when i heard the description from mr all we solve it was very different from what i saw on the government's you know we also received confirmation in writing from the u.s.
7:12 am
government via e-mail that mr ali was being force fed. that is a vial. ation of international law fact that it is done in an unnecessarily painful and brutal way that does that prisoners are strapped down to these restraint chairs that they have to force down their nose into their stomachs there are many other ways to to feed prisoners even if those prisoners wish to be true. and the u.s. government is again doing it in a deliberately violent way in order to break the hunger strikes correct me if i'm wrong he's being held at guantanamo. with no charges against him is that right that's correct the trial he has never been charged with any crime we have no reason to believe that the u.s. government has any interest in charging him with actual crime here in the real court or in a military commission the reality is that mr all he has been a blonde on a mill for over eleven years without a fair process and that's the reason he's on hunger strike today u.s. president barack obama is expected to address the nation on thursday speaking about
7:13 am
guantanamo bay at the detention center and i assume he will address this hunger strike what would you like to hear the president united states like and tell you what i would not like to hear i don't want to hear a repetition of the promises that president obama has been making for years i don't want to hear that he's going to appoint some official will be the sponsible for closing guantanamo we had an official like that for years and want to animal was not it was i don't want to hear about administrative review mechanisms because we've had many before that and they didn't lead to any meaningful progress the only official who is responsible for the existence of guantanamo today as far as i'm concerned as far as my clients are concerned is president obama himself he needs to take concrete steps towards closing the prison and i don't believe the man i want to animal will interrupt their hunger strike unless president obama takes such concrete steps and one very obvious concrete step he can take is to begin by releasing some prisoners who are approved for transfer who can be repatriated or resettled in another country like another one of my clients shakur ahmed who's been approved for transfer for years the u.k.
7:14 am
has been asking for his release that's the united states oldest and most trustworthy ally he is a very. natural source that the president is serious about closing guantanamo bay we need actions we need deeds not words mr carson thank you very much for your time i really thank you. and after the break we'll get expert opinion on the proposed economic cooperation between two of the world's most populous nations stay with us for that. some of these traditional chili lines they've been bred and developed and passed down from generation to. this is a total destruction of the culture of new mexico and i tell you what i mean this this is not going to impact a swelling in mexico whatever happens here throughout the whole world now we're eating out about it in the in the open the way you know all the wars and so forth. to narragansett their crops why do you think this country is full of obese and sick

discussions between russia's national security council chief the guy partnership and his u.s. colleague thomas donilon in washington the details from marty's a corpus going off. security services have managed to eliminate the you wake of russia's number one terrorist. in the republic of the caucasus plus just on monday authorities announced that the four for a plan to attack moscow all this gives weight to the head of russia's security council and you go i see this is the u.s. since he does have some useful experience he could share with us american counterparts when it comes to battling terrorism because it does come shortly after the recent terror attack in boston which was planned and conducted by the brothers both of whom were of church in origin and for russia the caucasus is the most volatile region just on monday four people were killed in two bomb explosions in the republic of biggest star definitely the security services of both countries
7:17 am
have things where they could work together on and joint threats and just earlier beleaguered so both are going to use did call on them to work together more intensely and it's a fact that they can help each other and to learn from each other in many things now the world's two most populous nations are looking to put their differences aside and cooperate closer economically and militarily and that was the message delivered by the chinese prime minister on his visit to india to discuss this now more detail we're joined by professor chaldea from the gentile school of international affairs thank you very much for joining us are here in the program so let's now take a look at the cooperation between the two countries and specifically what areas will the to be joining their forces in. all discipline deals. on this trip of our premier league kitchen is going to be huge business to negation
7:18 am
and in fact to be just after the political talks on the border issues and the prime minister the prime minister talks yesterday can be. spoken to lead to the business community in india and the message he has brought them but i think it is. right to look a lot of expectation on the indian side and the pieces will to treat it and. mechanisms through which we can address some of the concerns that are relieved by that retreat in the past as we should be in the. deficit which is in years of history of work and to try and turn it around communicate jenna's promised that he will do everything within his power and when the chinese premier says it obviously an astute dominant economy it means a lot to try and give indian corporations greater access to the chinese market for twenty nine billion dollars right now is a tribute to sit with in an over a period. of seventy billion dollars per annum and that's something india has been
7:19 am
trying to redress and the chinese have at least a promising start in terms of price of changing this towards india in a more balanced fashion well that's true andres of course. sorry for interrupting you mr charlie i just wanted to move on to the next question here all the countries of course together represented a strong force and the question i'd like to ask you now so how can a western nations compete in such a context with the two and also we know that china and india are members of the bric that consists of brazil russia india and china so how can other member states benefit from this cooperation. well first thing i want to mention in the context of bricks is that president xi jinping chose russia for his first foreign visit after assuming office and premier league kitchen has chosen india for its first foreign visit so it does show that for the chinese the greeks formation is very critical in india also we take it seriously and interpret street has been growing at
7:20 am
a tremendous space and if you're trying to trade i think they're projected to reach up to one hundred billion dollars in the next couple of years so that's a very ambitious target of increasing dollars with forty percent and if they achieve it it's all going to benefit the rest of the brics countries in so far as it's already creating momentum because india and china are obviously the two major economies in the brics formation which are predicted to be some what are you doing in economic terms and you can be dumped in the next five or ten years so this will automatically enhances as far as competition goes remember china has a lot of manufacturing and export a lot of finished products to india one of the on the other hand have been primarily exporting primary commodities and this is something it can be complementary but it should not be adversely so and that's why we have been also trying to change the composition of the tree you know where we are our manufacturers although they are much smaller and our service sector for instance
7:21 am
information technology to be premier league and visited one of the premier id companies in india in mumbai and that has also just opened true for services imports well as with ourselves penetrator and balances out. as we can see there is a lot of two countries can cooperate and and of course the benefits are obvious for the other part members there at this point professor sure and charlie i'd like to thank you so much for giving us your thoughts here on r.t. . now the u.k. governments gave marriage bill is to undergo a third and final commons reading later today this after david cameron saw further descend from within the ranks of the conservative party with little support seen for his flagship same sex wedding policy well to discuss this more i'm now joined by contributor a few times he who is in london for us i think you are much for joining us here on r.t. today well obviously just like any e.u. country the u.k.
7:22 am
at this point has bigger fish to fry so to speak i mean there are economic problems and other issues that need to be tackled so is the issue of gay marriage perhaps a bit exaggerated what's your feeling well there's no doubt that the prime minister david cameron does feel passionately about identity politics just as the front bench of the opposition body but as your question implied we although david cameron is finished no one in this country voted all of the majority of the people in this country did not vote for him to be prime minister and just as with previous conservative prime ministers he's facing immense trouble on his back benches the vote in the next few hours he'll win because of the labor party and the real democrat votes not his own votes and as you said he's trying desperately to avert attention from the disastrous economic policies currently undergoing going on here
7:23 am
in britain. well why are then conservatives so bothered about the same sex marriage bill in risking party unity of this point. i suppose one could argue that members of the the old tories or the backbenchers of the conservative party at least have some kind of principles behind their more anti or behind their moralistic. behavior and code of principles obviously it's the right of all people to be treated equally under the law but only open mentors they don't have those principles what we have is a parliament out of step with the british people in there. because they're all supporting. your liberal economic policies they've got a point of my throat's a bit bad today i visited one of david cameron's hospital the national health service reforms one of his big planks of his government and the effects are already
7:24 am
being felt on the health services david cameron is desperate to take attention away from the disastrous economic policies we've got to remember the inequality and rising was rising under tony blair is going to set to rise even more under a david cameron's policies and again you've got to remember there's a debate over whether there are people in this country who have a life expectancy less than that in afghanistan the rate of mortality among manual workers in this country is twice that of those in the professional classes and a lot of people of course are centering on europe because it's europe where are some surveys say hundreds of billions of euros a wasted in corruption so that's why your of is becoming more center stage in mind need as we see there are a lot of problems to sort out and a lot of issues both in the u.k.
7:25 am
and they're going to make a once they're played in europe the moment you case no exception here well let's look at it this way now some say support of same sex marriage will upset loyal voters it could help david cameron the current prime minister to win an outright majority at the next general election so why then is he so determined. i think most analysts believe that david cameron doesn't stand any chance whatsoever of being the next prime minister of this country he certainly wouldn't get a outright majority just as he didn't last time around and many people are already looking to perhaps a labor liberal democrat coalition because difficult at this moment isn't your thing winning david cameron i think analysts are looking to in terms of here's a city jobs and his friends in the city we've got to remember it's a highly polarized cabinet very few women in it yes there are some gay people in it but david cameron strategy here is not seemingly to win the next election certainly
7:26 am
nothing he seems to be doing seems trained in trying to get there and of course this whole gay marriage debate means that in a nine hundred twenty two committee style which they decide on who will be the next leader of the fight has already begun it was virtually split he's a party on the gay marriage vote but that's not the only vote for that will cause david cameron there is the bigger votes about europe and they'll want a much more extreme right wing whereas david cameron is on the same side as ed miliband is opposition member in the labor party on most things related to moral values identity politics and what no one in parliament these days except i don't know george galloway seems to care about is the cost politics that presumably will have to return before we see high rates of voting and participation in. the electorate for two thousand and fifteen. all right thank you so much for your views
7:27 am
here are you there joining us from one. and up next the issues down the main stream media usually for first ignore breaking this out here on r.t. . although i was born after the vietnam era i remember t.v. discussions about that buddhist monk who burned himself to death as a form of protest the commentators on the news said that people there just have a different mindset that westerners could never understand you know which is probably true but they were implying that people in the west are just different and would never use this absolutely extreme form of protest which is also probably true until just recently with the cost of electricity exceeding the income of the average bulgarian and a new government coming to power that looks exactly like the old government that
7:28 am
collapsed at least six pogue ariens have used self-immolation as a very desperate and extreme form of protest but why kristen ghodsee a professor at bowdoin college who is extensively talked about here and protesters claims that those who self-immolating are just incredibly desperate and cannot feed their own children and that people are actually becoming the stele jack for communism because at least that system at the people's basic needs the current democratic system from the populace is perspective according to her just cycles through a few new crooks every few years although it does get media attention and you may be feeling desperate suicide is never an answer the more living bulgarians the better ball garry's chances believe me but that's just my opinion.
7:29 am
