with me rule received a very good morning to. the investigation into the. police arresting two more people on suspicion of conspiracy to. the two men who apparently to death a british soldier in broad daylight they remain in hospital and one of them was recognized by a former radical preacher as a man who converted to islam around a decade ago meanwhile the local community is still reeling from. this report from london. a flag at half mast a grizzly attack with a machete style knife and a murdered soldier his death leaves behind

a two year old son the seemingly behind this piece an act seeking to bring scenes of violence usually seen in war ravaged parts of the world to the london suburb of knowledge in a poignant interview r.t. spoke to an army officer he told us of the reaction among some in the armed forces to remain anonymous. not scared maybe scared you never get someone to. be scared i witness accounts of the priests attack details the men chanting is limited slogans as the body of soldier drama leave it be a second battalion royal regiment to use a lead they on the ground pleading they ask people to deviate and if you listen to the words of the attackers themselves it's clear that they will wish to bring the war which they saw prosecuted on the streets of baghdad and kabul to the streets of

london the speaking at a press conference london mayor boris johnson again many senior political figures are trying to distance this latest act of violence in the case of recent agencies exploits this is not a question of blaming the religion of islam it is certainly not a question of blaming any aspect of british foreign policy or what british troops are do in operations abroad when they risk our lives on behalf of all of us the london mayor in charge at the time of the london two thousand and five bombings disagrees they are lying they are completely complicit with the united states policy to cite tony blair was with george bush they are prepared to stand and say well we think this strategy has been a disaster it has been just a mistake not just for the young man killed on the streets of london but for the hundreds of thousands of. people in afghanistan and in iraq. a simple reality if you invade other people's countries they come back it's one

side of an argument but one that's going to be weighing heavily on many now that this hits take place to hey you feel less secure i think that's one ace. you think if we went out there then perhaps a bit more space scope for al qaeda to produce the cells they'd be operating within you carry because when we're out there we're constructing the space and not allowing them that freedom. out and that means their base of operations over here is we both say the arguments we made because we're out there we're inspiring the more motivating them our presence out there is sort of motivating the cells that are back in the u.k. to operate more and carry out more attacks as the police investigation continues a deep sense of self and outrage from the local community here in southeast london at that brief the attack and the sentiment echoed across the country as people

struggle to come to terms with how a crime like that could happen here so i see london meanwhile the parallels are being drawn between the alleged motives behind the savage london murder and those outlined by the surviving boston marathon bombing suspect from the messages your heart and i have left in the boat that he was hiding in and he claimed that the terror attack was in retribution for us crimes against muslims and in a video or in a video message or one of the london machete killers also said the attack was an eye for an eye because of british soldiers killing muslims every day and another similarity in both cases it seems the alleged terrorists acted as a lone wolfs and not as part of a terror network early and my colleague bill dodd discussed this with artie's arena . it looks like we're looking at something of a new phenomenon in the so-called open-source jihad there's a website out there it's actually periodical online magazine which provides all
2:06 am
sorts of recipes for disaster literally for example how to make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom from the chef and you can use a pressure cooker in order to do that it says the ingredients are ready to leave a label they're not going to cause any suspicion if you're going to purchase them and you will basically get away with murder literally now this is not the only recipe that's out there so to speak they're also talking about techniques to wipe out large numbers of people there are also a dish there's also an addition on how to blow up buildings and so on and so forth as a matter of fact the even have in addition targeted. muslim women and suicide bombers and it's positioned as of lifestyle and fashion magazine and it sounds almost borderline observateur or on the borderline funny but it's not because literally there is a plethora of information out there on internet and it basically teaches people how to kill other people and and yet you annoy we can access this the security services doing about this because clearly they know where it's coming from go they do
2:07 am
something absolutely yes it does seem like they're actually keeping track of in some instances we know that in both cases the killers as well as this one i brothers were under the radar but the main question of course is why didn't the authorities do anything to prevent the attacks from happening because we're looking at an enormous a number of young men primarily of. muslim faith who are out there reading these websites and there are the target audience of these websites and they can essentially be their own terrorist leaders so you'd think they would be under the cap of the authorities and yet there doesn't seem like the authorities have done anything to prevent these attacks from happening of course to keep people from dying and that is the main problem that we're facing here right now. now you probably never hear about say we love it when you get involved with the stories we're covering here and today on the web site ought to dot com are asking you what do you think might have motivated this brutal murder in london let's bring up the numbers here from the dot com for this hour right now and they do fluctuate in fact
2:08 am
the biggest one going up going up going up the majority now fifty six percent saying this is simply blowback from the u.k.'s military operations in predominantly muslim countries down to about a fifth an hour saying that while it was a random act of violence committed by mentally deranged men let's go down now to the bare minimum ten percent saying well perhaps this was just an isolated terror attack orchestrated by foreigners r t dot com is where you can go to get involved obviously a bit of a touchy subject here from from here from england from around the world that we do value your opinion dot com is where you can cast your vote right now.

thanks for joining us here on our to today a city on fire that's become the common scene in stockholm where riots have raised it now for a fifth night in a row people in mostly immigrant suburbs of the city have torched cars smashed windows setting all sorts of buildings on fire as well and the violence has sparked a quick debate on sweden's open immigration policy which has resulted in an influx of asylum seekers who many say simply put refuse to integrate. the story. nice neat and normal not the type of place you would expect to see this. horse be on the outskirts of stockholm and the epicenter of sweden's issue with race and that's bubbling over in sweden you get welfare you get access to the education system up to university level you get access to public transport to libraries to health care to everything and still they feel that they need to throw stones or molotov cocktails it's ridiculous it's
2:10 am
a bad excuse the violence in the usually peaceful city has become a political football. democrats are exploiting these events they make it all about immigration to suit their needs they see being anti immigrant is being read in for the past week stone throwing in car burning become the norm in this part of town known for its high unemployment predominantly immigrant population all sparked after a sixty nine year old man was gunned down by police while brandishing a knife that let loose a barrage of emotions it's the state that creates this type of guess who is asian they move everyone from abroad into these parts of town when it comes to unemployment sweden is below the average however almost one quarter of under twenty five's are out of work prompting some to say it's time for further action saying a lack of control by government has led them to this situation the police can put
2:11 am
the ride down in five minutes if the politicians were to allow them although swedes defer over what caused this week's violence they are in agreement that it's government policy that must be changed to avoid scenes like this being repeated on the streets of stockholm peter all over r.t. sweden. and as the riots continue to rip through some claim the violence has been clearly orchestrated for tyria motives and that's the opinion shared by lars had a god and danish journalist working for a swedish newspaper if you look at similar instances in other parts of europe you'll see in eventually that there is a plan behind that some people would want to gain recognition as stakeholders in society in other words people who would want to be in a goshen a negotiating position reserving the authorities and so if they can sort of make
2:12 am
things happen and make them go away this proves they have in the local community and they are people that you have to reckon element behind of course much of this these immigrants that and of course we've got a reputation for opening its doors to immigrants surely that multiculturalism is something that sweden has been successful at over the past so will why should that be going wrong while has not been successful i mean you can see that right now there's been a. it's been an ideology that's been just i'm an agent by the ruling elites actually that this was a great success and. a great experiment a model for the rest world the fact is that these and by it's that are now spreading around the country i don't know if that will continue for a long time but they certainly demonstrate that this success was once was a fiction it never succeeded live from moscow this is r.t.

it was just hours ago the american president what issued renewed promises to shut down guantanamo bay and discussing issues for america's ongoing war on terror the details and analysis on president obama's speech in just a moment. download

. stream quality and enjoy your favorite. if you're away from your television just. now with your mobile device you can watch on t.v. anytime anywhere. or the program prime interest in the near future. five years after promising to shut down the guantanamo bay prison president obama has finally announced specific actions to one day make that a reality of the statements came during a speech where he also made it clear that america's war on terror which guantanamo has become a key symbol of will be winding down however at the same time the u.s.
2:15 am
lead it defended targeting suspected terrorists with drones as quote just and necessary washington correspondent got an extra cat was following the president's address. president obama says he's appointing new people new on voice at the state department and the pentagon who will specifically work on the transfers of guantanamo detainees he did not really specify when the transfers will begin or how this will be done but he did say the administration is lifting the ban on transfers to yemen the yemenis are the largest single group of prisoners added on and on those six out of eighty six detainees who've been cleared for release are from yemen president obama also says he asked congress to lift restrictions on bringing the detainees to the u.s. to be tried by military commissions here in the state looks like after all these years of inaction indifference and then just this one time a detainees finally got to president obama's attention whether it was just really said that it took a massive hunger strike and so much physical suffering for them to be heard remember we've heard president obama talk about closing the prison five years ago
2:16 am
nothing happened moreover he signed a law that made indefinite detention illegal he shut down the office of the state department that was working on the transfers and just two months ago a pentagon official was in congress asking for nearly two hundred million dollars to renovate the prison so just a little while ago the prospect of closing the prison seemed so very distant now it seems we could be seeing some action on the part of the administration but president obama has never been a guantanamo fan his preferred strategy is targeted assassinations the administration has been very secretive about how they determine the targets innocent people have died in those strikes and it has contributed to the growth of extremism in places like pakistan but we've heard the president mitigate the adverse effect that the drone strikes are having he of course underscored that the drones keep u.s. troops out of the battlefield he spoke extensively about how much he likes drones as opposed to other military strategies at one point he said putting u.s. troops on the ground would trigger an international crisis would lead to more anger
2:17 am
among the locals which begs the question where the bombing from air does not trigger an international crisis or whether the local somehow like being bombed more than being shot it the u.n. has questioned the legality of the use of drones and here's how the president addressed the issue america cannot take strikes wherever we choose or actions are bound by consultations with partners and respect for state sovereignty. america does not take strikes to punish individuals we act against terrorists who pose a continuing and imminent threat to the american people when the president talks about consultations with other countries one should mention that you have the whole population of pakistan its parliament unanimously opposing the drone strikes so the administration may be in consultation with the governments of those countries but obviously not the people there the president said this wednesday he signed a presidential policy guidance on the use of drones which is supposed to lead to
2:18 am
these stablish meant of some guidelines oversight and accountability now also on the issue of legality did mr ation still operate under the congress authorization for the use of military force adopted in two thousand and one which says the u.s. is at war with al qaeda and its affiliates based on the threats that the president talked about in the speech and he talked about the threat coming from all kind of different parts of the world the war on terror is still on and the drones are here to stay so obama's failed first time commitment to shut down guantanamo bay has started another lump of former detainee from that camp begg he told us he believes the u.s. is trying to get away with a crime and be thanked for it. i don't think anybody's going to be singing the praises of obama any time soon because he's already made a promise four weeks ago that he closed the place the words of malcolm x. you don't take a knife to stick it in a man's back nine inches deep five inches and say we're making progress if they're
2:19 am
cleared for release and why don't you released him now it is about the process it could well take that you know all we want the criminals they were the criminals the criminality was done against us torture is criminality kidnap is criminality rendition is criminality tortures criminality all of these things were done to us we didn't do this to anybody we were interrogated by the world's most powerful law enforcement and intelligence agencies and after years of all of this we still have no charges against us and after years of all of this prison still the overwhelming majority of them of still no charges against him so it's simply not even worth discussing anymore. and attorney david remes who represents seventeen guantanamo inmates things obama's speech was just full of empty promises the speech was a deep disappointment we had been led to expect at least in the media that president obama would do something constructive all he offered however were the same empty promises that he's offered before he continues to defend indefinite detention in the news who will say well he lifted the ban on the transfer of
2:20 am
yemenis that's a nice gesture i have to say it's a gesture though because as long as he blames congress for not letting him transfer anyone it doesn't really matter and he was the one who imposed the obstacle in the first place. i just i just think that this is an unfortunate speech because it will give the illusion of progress where there is no progress at all. well obama's iron clad way of battling terrorists certainly sparked heated debate during his speech in washington at one point the president was stopped in his tracks by an angry audience member my colleague i've across he outlined what made the woman break obama's scripted autocue something that we haven't seen really before was that the presidential veneer the the obama veneer was punctured somewhat by a heckler in the audience and i think we can have a listen and have
2:21 am
a look at how obama dealt with he went on through. we went on. i. were addressing america. the heckler was media benjamin of code pink with the heckling itself and that it took place is a real indication of how angry people are as far as we could pick up on the audio she she she pretty much addressed every element of obama's obama's speech so she called on him to compensate families who have been destroyed by joint strike drone strikes and she called on them to close guantanamo bay called called on him to
2:22 am
release the prisoners who have been set for release for up to ten years from the camp but he dealt with he's a consummate performer he and he dealt with it very well as any politician of his stature would he be point to the fact that free speech allowed this lady to have an opinion and he felt she went on a bit and i think about stagey and after a minute or so we had certainly had enough for me the key takeaway is that the policy of man drone strikes needs to be changed obama is definitely trying to move responsibility for growing strikes drone strikes out of the shadow of the cia and into the department of defense and he's certainly trying to do something about guantanamo but i think the key takeaway the key lesson is that these two elements of u.s. policy of the so-called war on terror are absolutely unsustainable and just a bit later today here on r.t. abby martin discussing america's future of fighting terrorism in breaking the set of an hour a very quick preview of. our deeply ambivalent about war. but having fought
2:23 am
for our independence we know a price must be paid for freedom a price for freedom well just break down how costly this so-called freedom has just been in the last twelve years over six thousand six hundred u.s. servicemen and women have been killed in iraq and afghanistan but the civilian death count is much more grave and yemen and pakistan drone strikes have killed almost three thousand four hundred people so that's a really heavy human cost for that so-called freedom and i'm not even talking about the six trillion dollar price tag of the afghanistan and iraq wars according to a new harvard study so has the war on terror really been keeping us free and what other well known constructs that obama outlined in his foreign policy speech today . out of motion a bit later here on the finale though the father of

a chechen immigrant killed in the u.s. spy an f.b.i. agent believes that his son was tortured before death he put a game to dust off was shot dead in his apartment while an agent was questioning him over his alleged links with one of the boston marathon bombing suspects a civil rights attorney. says his death not only raises questions but could also damage progress in the investigation. we know very little about what happened because the only source of information is the f.b.i. and presumably it's not in their self-interest to me reveal too much information given since there is now investigating into what's next because this could possibly be that with their supporters in violation of things constitutional rights so the question is why did the officer need to use their reach is generally something of last resort and the principle new legal standard is usually whether

the action was reasonable or that it was necessary to the extent that he knew about the boston bombings he obviously did an intelligence source in to the extent that he even if he did not directly about the boston bombings he may have known about other associates of the older brother or possibly even the younger brother so i think he's certainly a loss of any television source students not because he mean anything and if you spoke on the phone with the father of the killed chechen immigrant he believes his son would never have attacked if he wasn't provoked you can listen to the whole interview right now on our website called the meantime though into the aussie world up a starting with brazil a spectacular fire broke out at a fuel depo just north of the capital at least one person a forty three year old man was killed in the inferno six giant fuel containers of a storage site ignited sending flames soaring up to fifty meters high and forced firefighters to evacuate nearby schools and houses according to officials the owner of the death row petro gold had lost its license to operate continued working on

said afternoon welcome to prime interest i'm harry i'm boring here and washington d. thief and here are the headlines. i've been checking today. well it's good news for homeowners because home prices are up as according to two reports a day with which goal to beat expectations and good news for chairman bernanke it looks like five years of pushing on a string have more into a q a bullet train but how long will this last we've previously reported this week that the foreclosure pipeline has been stalled thanks to new guidance from the fed and overseas and today we'll talk to matthew o'brien about some creative legal or turn it is for homeowners facing foreclosure also prime interest producer adjusting

justice demanding accountability for the wrongful foreclosure that have occurred since the financial crisis of two thousand and eight now in a recent settlement between the federal reserve and the office of the controller of the currency and the major financial institutions homeowners receive just a penny on the dollars for the a legal foreclosure activity or baking errors prime interest producer adjusting underhill has done a full report and here is what she had. in two thousand and twelve and haynes mother of three lost her home to foreclosure this is not just it's like oh it's where we my kids grow up this isn't just a property this is our home this is where i raise my children they told me to get to become default on the loan and then i could do a modification but five days after the modification was submitted based to the sheriff's sale and the foreclosure process has begun her mortgage lender u.s.

bank had stopped the loan modification process because they sent the wrong application and went ahead with foreclosure. and haynes is not alone this week hundreds of activists and victims of wrongful for closure rallied outside the department of justice but if you walk to the bank and. the very first feelings are all right. they say and i was. there's not been single criminal action against those responsible for the predatory lending and wrongful addictions. and protesters stood ready to risk arrest to gain the attention of the department of justice by may do everything it can i can lose going to going to jail i'm fine with over two dozen people went to jail. in two thousand and nine and two thousand and ten eleven leading financial institutions foreclosed on almost one point two million borrowers many of whom were not in default or were
2:33 am
in mortgage modification programs in two thousand and eleven the government ordered banks to hire independent consultants to determine how many foreclosures were illegal however according to the government accountability office the methodology was flawed and their independence has come into question in one case consultants were reportedly given gift cards of up to five hundred dollars for completing a certain number of files quickly last january rather than continue the costly review process they agreed upon a settlement of three point six billion dollars to be distributed to the nearly four million homeowners the consultants were paid over two billion dollars or over twenty thousand dollars per file well the average homeowner only received three hundred dollars in the deal my mother who who almost lost her home to a fraudulent foreclosure she got a settlement check of three hundred dollars after six months of excruciating stress and anxiety about whether we would lose the home that i grew up in and the regulators might not provide homeowners who may want to sue the banks the evidence
2:34 am
of misconduct they discovered during the review is will you be giving them the information that's in your possession about how the banks illegally foreclosed against them mr ashton i think that's a decision that we're still considering we haven't made a final decision yet so you have made a decision to protect the banks but not a decision to tell the families who were illegally foreclosed against people like and haynes and her family have been devastated by the wrongful foreclosure process at the hands of the very same. things that were bailed out by taxpayer funds. but there are neither bailouts nor justice for these families the acts of disobedience outside the department of justice speaks volumes but will it be loud enough to be heard by those who can make changes behind the closed doors in washington just archie. thanks justin now in response to closed doors i now to talk about revolving doors so me to judd gregg he was just named c.e.o. of the securities industry and financial markets association or systema which is
2:35 am
a lot wall street lobbying powerhouse so it might represent over six hundred fifty securities firms banks and asset managers and they pay their executives multimillion dollar salaries they've been described as a very important jury trade group for a lot of very wealthy firms so explain how we got here let's take a step back and look at his past who wrote balding door. judd gregg has a strong background in politics he started his career in the u.s. house of representatives where he served from one thousand nine hundred eighty eight to one nine hundred eighty seven he then ran for governor of new hampshire and held that seat for two terms and in one thousand nine hundred three he ran on the republican ticket and served for three terms in the united states senate now while in the senate judd gregg played some key roles and lamenting policies ported
2:36 am
by largest financial institutions during the two thousand and eight financial crisis senator gregg was the leading the go shader and tarp which was the controversial bill with originally authorized seven hundred billion dollars of taxpayer funds to bail out the financial system he was also an outspoken critic of efforts to rein in and regulate the fine. institutions when he first came to the senate he claimed to be a fiscal hawk but he stood by his position to funnel money to the banking system and defended his work and helping pass tarp. i have to be honest i actually think doing tarp was the most significant thing that's happened in the last five to ten years we were on the verge of a cataclysmic event i mean if we had the ford as a government and gotten a bipartisan way very aggressively in a very short time frame the trauma which this country and the world would have been
2:37 am
put through as our banking system melted down in the main street meltdown would have been extraordinary now what he didn't mention is that he had a multibillion dollar stake and bank of america at the same time as chairman of the budget committee he spearheaded efforts to confirm ben bernanke second term as chairman of the federal reserve he released a statement saying that bernanke he is the right leader to guide the federal reserve and the recovering economy he also came close to entering the executive branch in ninety two thousand and nine when president obama nominated this republican to be a member of his cabinet as the secretary of commerce he ended up not accepting the position and he left the senate soon after for something much more lucrative now in two thousand and eleven and he cashed out and became a goldman sachs international advisor the bank's c.e.o. said greg's experience and insight will contribute significantly to our firm from there judd gregg made a leap in his career and he's now the c.e.o.
2:38 am
of their goal is overcoming the stigma of the financial industry stranglehold over america and they spent over five million dollars on lobbying efforts last year alone we're sure mr gregg have plenty of insight to share with that as he's been through the valving door and made out quite well. well stay tuned because i've next we're going to discuss the end of an hour of how a train wreck foreclosure process with matthew o'bryant them crime and just producer bob inglis and i will do over the fee at two hundred feet that's right a gary gensler we're coming for you we'll be right back. to.

asked about there's any circumstances in which you would not have to pay your mortgage. borrowers still responsible to pay their mortgage unless they decide to you know fight it now in many times i might recommend the homeowner stop paying their mortgage under under many scenarios for example if the homeowner wants to get a modification especially under the hamp program which is the home affordable modification program that was you know created to refinance these loans they need to be missing a few payments before they're even eligible now it's interesting that you bring up the chain of title because that's actually a really relevant issue today in the four foreclosure process a sensually you know these banks are buying and selling the notes in the mortgages so many times they're securitizing them into bundles and you know now they're trying to foreclose on them all every time one of these mortgages has been bought and sold a document called an assignment
2:43 am
a mortgage is supposed to be generated signed and recorded by the. buying and selling entities if there's a break and one of those documents and any of the. t.v.'s buyers are settles sellers you're going to have an incomplete chain a title and that could give rise you know to an action to potentially try to wipe out the mortgage with a good attorney so if you're a well known if not one that qualifies for wiping out the mortgage which you stated are there any other benefits the hiring of foreclosure defense attorney factors are found. there are you know one of the other main benefits of hiring a foreclosure attorney and unfortunately the bar rules don't allow attorneys to advertise this but i know many that still do still do which is you know if you have no attorney the uncontested process meaning a process without an attorney right now can be done as quickly as ninety to one hundred twenty days and then you're out of the house just by virtue of having an

attorney even if it's not a good attorney and he files you know one documents that that foreclosure automatically goes to the bottom of the pile and in my experience just by having a foreclosure attorney file some of these documents it could delay the foreclosure process substantially i've seen ones go as long as three four even five years and you know you're paying this attorney maybe seven thousand nine hundred thousand nine thousand a year but in the meantime you're not paying your mortgage you're not paying your property taxes you don't have to move out you don't have to rent a new home or buy a new home all of those activities are more expensive than just paying the defense attorney to really stall the process and in the meantime you know the homeowner i've seen homeowners have been able to save up money to where when they're finally evicted from the home they've saved so much they're able to buy a new one and are basically made whole and in the same position they were prior to the foreclosure.
