breaking news this hour n.s.a. whistleblower edward snowden reportedly aboard a commercial flight over russia but it's believed moscow won't be his final destination. wiki leaks claims one of its legal advisers is accompanying snowden after the whistle blowing group secured papers of a safe exit and asylum in an unnamed democratic state. but look at least top stories despite a chilly start talks at the g. eight lead to a rare show of solidarity officials having a road map for peace in syria but there is skepticism that all of them won't he will be able to stick to their summit valens. protests. artie's crew hit with water cannons and turkey is the antigovernment protests rage on we report from the cradle of the unrest.

pleading for unity britain's foreign minister goes to edinburgh calling on scots to reject independence for the sake of their economy but the visit pours fuel on an already fiery debate over the future of scotland. two pm in moscow i met treasurer bring you today's top stories and a look back at the week's news here on r t the man who exposed the extent of washington's surveillance program edward snowden may be over russian airspace at this moment he reportedly boarded a moscow bound flight from hong kong with a little help from the world's most well known whistle blowing group wiki leaks let's go now to our tease arena for the latest. yes side this point we don't know exactly what's happening with with edward snowden we do know that the cording to
6:02 am
the latest reports is that he is on route to moscow from hong kong via an aeroflot flight now this information was broken just overall hours ago by the south china morning post a very very liberal newspaper in china who have who have a grip provided that information also said that most school may not be the final destination of arguably one of the world's best known. leakers at this point he may be on route to either ecuador or iceland as was previously discussed but also there are some reports again unconfirmed saying that he could actually be also heading to cuba so again at this point there is no exact definition from ation but we do know that all of this comes just a day after the united states has filed in the fischel request for arrest an exhibition of the former cia employee that request was denied by the chinese authorities who said that the people were basically did not meet the legal requirements or rather to put it in human terms it wasn't filed correctly but at
6:03 am
this point it's sort of a moot point considering the fact that the hong kong authorities have said that indeed snowden has left the hong kong territory is and is on route to a third country again they did not specify which country that could be we also know at this point that according to the information received from the spokesperson for the russian president was going to. snowden is they do not know about his whereabouts and whether or not he is actually going to be staying in russia again. a lot of really conflicts not of conflicting but a lot of reports. be independently verified of course we'll be keeping a very close eye on what is happening at the russian airports and where snowden may be heading whether he's going to stay in russia or go elsewhere from here and exactly how is this man perceived by the u.s. public and various people here is a report filed by our colleague earlier kind of it's.
6:04 am
all right thanks. well joining me live now to discuss snowden's possible plan is former m i five agent and. thank you for joining us here on r t any so why do you think snowden has left hong kong and do you think you feel he felt protected enough fair or was it just a matter of his visa running. well i think it is very canny to go in the first place because russia and china are probably the only two countries who can effectively stand up to the brute force of u.s. diplomacy these days but now it appears that the warrant for his arrest was sent to hong kong there was problems with the paperwork and that allowed snowden time to actually flee hong kong while lead the chinese replied to the problems it's also interesting that in their press statement they said that they were complaining officially to the u.s. through the u.s. spying on them which of course came from the revelations of edward snowden so they're pushing back it gave him the chance to flee and i think it again it's a very canny move to to go to russia because he will be safe there and then
6:05 am
complete where else he wants to go but i do think wrong shot hong kong should have taken steps to keep him from leaving. i think they fulfilled their legal requirements and you know there's been so much in the western media for the last few years about the chinese hacking all our systems and everything but you must be very pleased to have evidence that in fact the u.s. is doing the same to them so they can push back so i think that's a good place for him to go and i think the irony now is that it's the u.s. that whistleblowers have to fear it's the u.s. that whistleblowers have to flee from because of course at the moment the obama administration is waging a war on whistleblowers not just ed snowden but also people like bradley manning in his awful trial in conditions and also a whole range of other whistle blows from the cia and in the n.s.a. for example john kiriakou of the cia who exposed the u.s. to the program is the one currently languishing in prison for thirty months not the top troops so i think the irony that people have to fear the u.s. when all they're trying to do is expose the crimes of us must be better than our
6:06 am
viewer said apparently warned hong kong authorities ahead of today's developments or how do you think this war that the relations between the. well hong kong was just going by the legal books so really the u.s. doesn't have anything to complain about but yes there was a sort of slow warming of the diplomatic relationships between china and the u.s. and i think it's probably said it backwards. however i would suggest that snowden has done public service not only to the u.s. people but to the pull of the world and exposing quite how badly we are being watched and to think by u.s. and nato big brother states. now we have been getting reports that stone has been granted asylum although it's still too early. to determine which country has offered him a safe harbor what's your guess as to where he said it. well i know there's been a lot of speculation that has been trying to help him gain phylum in iceland and he needs to get there first iceland does have a very good reputation for protecting transparency and. so that may well be a possibility but he needs to ensure that he goes to
6:07 am
a country which one doesn't have an extradition treaty or does have an extradition treaty but it doesn't cover political offenses such as he's been deemed to do but it's also strong enough to push back because there will be immense pressure from the u.s. to hand him over. do you think there's a chance he could be intercepted on a route to the third state possibly yes so in fact getting to russia is a very safe place to be at the moment because they will not be pressured the unfortunate choice of russia here is that it will make it very easy for the western media to deem him to be a traitor now which might mean he might face even more charges under the espionage act i think strategically if he were to remain in russia and russia was seen to protect him and not try and use it then strategically that would send a very strong message to the whole world about who exactly is going to tell the tear in state these days is it the u.s. or is it the other countries like russia or china and i think edward snowden's choice of refuge demonstrates very much that the u.s. is currently the bully will have the world right strong opinion there from any

mention of former m i five agent thank you. asia times correspondent and international affairs analyst pepe escobar things for witness on unprecedented persecution of whistleblowers by the us from time to time. they hoped on google they released this statement about two hours ago after loading was already m s u two one three going from us they see that he didn't have enough elements to grants what the west would want it that provisional warrant of arrest in fact so they decided to you know i didn't even release them because it was not e.j. was that he last hong kong in a normal legal manner and that's exactly what happened he took a taxi he went to the airport and he boarded there on an aeroflot flight i would say we're going to have a collection of a son just manning and snowden's from now on especially from a lot of us take deeks there are extremely uncomfortable with the way and when not
6:09 am
to surveillance state not only of us but we saw the relations with britain as well it's an angle american sake of course everybody is equal the cyber war as well but the forefront is the u.s. on the internet you can track the flight that snowden is allegedly on a.f.l. two one three right now the air bus is flying thirty thousand feet or eleven thousand meters not far from the russian city of all set to land in moscow in about three hours time. in the light of the search for snowden on the current trial of another whistleblower bradley manning artie's guy looks i washington is struggling to keep a veil of secrecy while justifying operations to the american people america is split on edward snowden traitor hero mix in between but we guard less of what anyone thinks about snowden his revelations have shed unprecedented light on the
6:10 am
u.s. government's massive spying program even if you're not doing anything wrong you're being watched and recorded former n.s.a. employee william binney was prosecuted as a traitor when he blew the whistle on the government's sweeping collection of data and communications it's setting up a telling terry in state. when the government has that much information they can do those things they can use the i.r.s. to intimidate people or anything else they can send the f.b.i. people what they did to me and some others bradley manning too is being prosecuted as a traitor although it's still his war logs that the public learned about the. collateral murder was committed in iraq the obama administration has prosecuted more whistleblowers under the espionage act than all previous administrations combined but it was a lower say it's not government persecution that they fear the greatest fear that i have regarding the outcome. for america of these disclosures is that nothing will change the administration is not trying to
6:11 am
convince the american people that government secrets programs are a trade off they have to make in the name of national security they always have the same stories about you know manning is known you know psychological stories what is wrong with these people cause them to do this i mean the real question is what is wrong with everyone else from who doesn't see what they can see but whistleblowers are not the only targets there is an obligation both moral but also legal i believe against a reporter that was the chairman of the house committee on cutting teligent and terrorism peter king calling to punish the journalist who exposed the government surveillance programs in its hunt for meeks the obama administration has already targeted its it's trying to set the precedent communicating with the media is the same as communicating with the enemy and it's a death penalty offense the administration doesn't have to go after her or he certainly it's an upgrade an environment of fear but will that fear stop
6:12 am
information from coming out here is that what snowden's answer to that but. koni in response is simply build better whistleblower. in washington i'm going to take on my road relations presented by n.s.a. whistleblower snowden that british and u.s. intelligence allegedly. on world leaders set in g. twenty summit in london four years ago some of the heads of state including then president russian president dmitri medvedev apparently had computers monitored and phone calls tapped evidence also suggests fake internet cafes were set up to gather high profile data and this though doesn't surprise glyn ford a political analyst and former member of the european parliament at the end of the ninety's he raised the issue of a secret u.s. project targeting e.u. citizens called echelon and he thinks the u.k. is long been a tool for harvesting information. in the past we we've learned that. military french it. would seem to be an irish peace process and some of these spots you have big with france about the position of the european union absolutely could be
6:13 am
expected there and there were going to be military with the g. twenty in and g. eight events that kind of suck operation my understanding is that t.c.h. sometimes doesn't even get to see what it downloads for the americans some of the some of the killer downloaded from satellites i actually just fed directly to fort meade in the united states and we get so bits of it back there were a cave that got the sub contractors teaming up with us and of course it will give the green light to the worst of the world to do the same thing why won't you join or anybody else the next time neighbor has complained that maybe some was going on where the information era it is the only place he could be industrious you know where the chinese are actually it is crux is the best there are. more news of the week coming up after a short break stay with us. you
6:14 am
know sometimes you see a story and it seems so. you think you understand it and then you glimpse something else you hear or see some other part of it and realize that everything you. are welcome is a big issue. thanks

for staying with us here with me matt très a fifteen minutes past the hour now foreign ministers from a syrian opposition umbrella group which includes the u.s. as well as european and arab allies have signed arms shipments to rebels that will increase the rebel of the gulf states thought to be funneling weapons to the opposition with fighters saying they've gotten a fresh batch of ammunition the leader of the far right british national party nick griffin sees it as a case of double standards. eight wild lead is about press and an army of police watching that this northern irish g eight went smoothly but inside the fortified resort where the talks are being held a split over syria i don't think we should we should this rule or sometimes we
6:16 am
do this is g seven plus one in the run up to the conference the u.s. had claimed that the syrian government had used chemical weapons and pledged to provide the opposition with arms i think it's right that the americans have said what they have said and i wanted to back that up with the information in the involvement that we've had in the system an assessment of russian side said didn't find convincing. on the eve of the g eight putin said that peace talks could be the only way to solve the crisis and cautioned leaders considering arming the rebels. as regards who has the blood of the children and peaceful citizens of syria i believe you will not deny that the blood is on the hands of both parties i believe you will agree one hardly should support those who kill their enemies and it's their organs for the public and media to see during the talks and or quite meeting between the leaders of russia and the us that produced no breakthroughs but we do
6:17 am
have different perspectives on the problem but we share an interest in reducing the violence. the leaders couldn't even agree on how to wave in their family photo it looked like seven plus one was ringing true but then a turnaround after an informal dinner between all the participants that sources said when better than expected a joint statement on syria was issued it called for an independent investigation of chemical weapons use in syria something the russian side had been insisting on and it turned out that not all the leaders are convinced by u.s. claims that the syrian government use nerve gas. but you know i'm sure my colleagues will confirm this it was a discussion somebody would agree some two would argue about certain issues but it was never a case that russia was alone defending its position on syria. the focal point of the statement
6:18 am
a peaceful resolution to the syrian crisis but it didn't mention what chemical weapons cache our side stepping down or military support to the opposition the journalist used to david cameron's and sad rhetoric was stumped why was it so vital in your view to keep president putin of russia on board and why were you prepared to pay the price of abandoning a declaration that syria's president has. i should go i don't believe any price has been paid quite the opposite i think we have a very strong statement about what needs to happen in syria one thing that everyone agrees on is that the only way to solve the syrian crisis is through diplomacy and peace talks and that's exactly what this has been talks about more talks more than a date for geneva two pencilled into the calendar leaders might well be leaving a lot and wondering what it is exactly they've achieved pretty boy k r t northern ireland artie's current turkey felt the force of protest police this week after it
6:19 am
became the target of a water cannon and the government an arrest has been plaguing the streets of the country's biggest cities as police unleashed their nonlethal arsenal to quell public anger artie's tom barton reports remark or. resistance that's the word demonstrators are using in turkey as protests continue three weeks after they started resistance to a government and police force widely accused of war for a terrorism and brutality person is still recovering from the early days of those protests we went with him to the very spot in central ankara where as the crowds fell back to do what he describes as a raid of gas canisters he found himself trapped with only a flimsy wooden board to protect him. it was at most twenty or thirty meters distance you know. they fire the tear gas capsule on a barricade and it explodes on my face. doctors had to operate to
6:20 am
remove splinters from his eye and fix his broken nose he spent days waiting for the swelling to proceed but sin was lucky compared to etan satis a look killed in a protest in the same square the preliminary autopsy found a metal fragment likely a police bullet lodged in his head at a memorial gathering we spoke to at thames reading brother we are sure that we can find no meaning in all of this this feeling of burning inside but what hurts the most is that nineteen days after his death the authorities still have not even tried to arrest my brother's murderers there has been international condemnation the police crackdown on the protests that initially started as an attempt to save istanbul's gezi park here in the capital ankara parliament is only a short distance from the more raw politics of the street that just tired urged one's governing a.k. party is keen to defend its actions if you attack police forces but with stones.
6:21 am
and out of malt of cocktails course you will get a response there have been incidents of excess by some protesters the government condemn as vandals adik streamers dozens of buses burnt shops smashed and police officers injured but i as a reporter wasn't doing any of that and the turkish police decided to turn on my camera and me to come the police to break up another night of protest here in ankara and here's the water cannon just coming in as well it's not known whether these protests it's not known whether these protests the government also says the situation is now calm not what we witnessed as we tried once more to record our report water cannon and gas vehicles and just charge into this square if we look down at my legs now not even the media safe i just got nearly knocked off my feet by the water cannon but just moved on there it's not known how long this kind of to and fro between protesters and the police is going to go on in ankara in turkey in

general or whether it will change the political situation here but it's one thing's for certain it's souring the mood around his party tom barton r t ankara turkey. the u.k. government doing all it can to get people in scotland onside in the lead up to the stork referendum on independence there william hague has given a speech in edinburgh warning even the famous whisky industry there could take a hit if it splits from britain but was already sarah for three ports the foreign secretary has only added fuel to the explosive debate over scottish independence. sounding the battle cry of the twenty fourteen scottish independence date creep seven era politicians and campaign is a like a cranking up the volume on the debate this is your mission to google canada on thursday and it was the turn of british foreign secretary william hague foreign secretary william hague in edinburgh today to give his speech outlining why in
6:23 am
foreign policy terms the u.k. is but its gather nothing to take that afternoon for i think. the talk was given to an audience of around one hundred fifty people it's the foreign secretary said that he was not in scotland to issue diet predictions and dark warnings and he laid out the clear reasons why he felt scotland should vote to remain in the union and traveling from afghanistan to brazil and them from canada to australia. but anyone would try to break up a union that has been so resilient so successful i'm so out in the world as ours they were saved by the audience high unemployment and tough economic times the many in scotland are becoming more receptive to the message from independence campaign is that being that westminster is maintaining a stranglehold on scottish resources and the scots would benefit from taking back
