very little. taliban fighters launch a heavy assault on afghanistan's presidential palace just a week after the country's security forces took full control and the u.s. announced plans for peace talks with the terror group. says that. edward snowden goes underground and under the radar office sending moscow's international press corps to the sunny shores all. of his breathing fire china and russia for the refusal of both countries to serve the whistleblowers head to washington on a silver platter. live
3:01 am
from moscow this is ati with me rory sushi your top worldwide headlines to come here in the program thank you for joining us the presidential palace in kabul has come under attack from militants all reporters were waiting for a press conference with president hamid karzai a huge plumes of smoke could be seen across the city after the assault reportedly pitched heavily on taliban fighters against presidential and american troops a journalist courtney body has the latest for us from kabul. the scene lasted just over an hour and while no civilian casualties have been reported and the afghan forces did manage to get the attack under control relatively quickly the fact that it did happen at the presidential palace they used id cards and vehicle id cards that are what the nato and i saw forces use reportedly and the fact that they were
3:02 am
even able to breach that gate what i saw from the outside of the gate and it's more of a blast wall around the green zone area as they were dry and holes in the concrete walls and in the entire gate was destroyed apparently one vehicle was able to get inside and then one was stopped at the gate and then that's when the attack began the damage actually remarkably was minimal obviously it could have been a lot worse there actually schools and offices just outside of the gate into the presidential palace area and where the cia is. and the fact that there were no civilian deaths or and injuries reported is remarkable it would seem as especially considering this attack happened right when the peace talks are being negotiated in doha with the taliban and the attack happened on the presidential palace it would not seem possible that the afghan side could continue forward with the peace talks
3:03 am
when they're being attacked not even just on their own soil but right in there in their presidential palace. and the assault on the presidential palace was just at the start of today in the afghan capital another attack now this time a roadside bomb has left eight women and child dead and with us now though dulled sultanzoy a political analyst and former afghan m.p. now joining us here on r t thanks for jumping on the program with us today sir a big hello to you from moscow let's talk about a this morning's attack on the presidential palace that palace a symbolic target what does it tell you about the state of security in afghanistan if such a large attack can take place in the heart of the capital. well i actually serve very brazen in breach which is very important in terms of symbolism because this was probably one of the most strategic penetration to send
3:04 am
a signal to the afghan government that while they're opening an office in qatar they are also continuing their military assault on very important targets it's very very confusing for this government to while the government is interested in talking to the taliban that taliban are answering back with with guns and explosives so the government is in a very very defensive and weak position when it comes to these things but nevertheless if these kinds of breaches will happen because you cannot safeguard a city of this size completely but the fact that they used international i sat for id cards and then came so close to the palace and two very strategic other points like the u.s. embassy the ministry of defense the cia headquarters and the. there are several other key government installations this is a very important signal that they are trying to send to this government what you
3:05 am
say mr sultanzoy about about these attackers using ice sapphire identification cards and who knows what other types of by the state to get close to these targets attacked in kabul when it comes to there were the attack of this morning you called it brazen in the way that it was carried out do you think america is right to try and push for peace talks with the taliban when you see such attacks as like what we witnessed this morning. i think this is the result of war fatigue by foreign forces they have already made a decision that they will continue on peace talks because they're tired of this war and they have already in fact send a signal to the taliban that we will not be fighting this war with you and we want to talk talk to you in fact mr obama a while ago mentioned that we are not our enemy so if this confuses the people of afghanistan that if if they're sending these kinds of signals what is the status
3:06 am
of the civilians in this country what is the status of all these ten ten years of some some achievements in fact in terms of civil society and in terms of women in other aspects of civil society so these are all things that people are asking questions about and they are all in jeopardy but you know there was being going on for ten twelve years now in afghanistan many calling it a war and an occupation having gone on for so many years now now western forces america and nato really truly trying to get tile of the taliban to the peace talks table some are already saying that america is capitulating to the requests of the taliban how are how do you see it. i think if you look at this you can see parallels to the vietnam peace process when when the united states was getting ready to leave vietnam there were parallel tracks on one hand they were
3:07 am
fighting on the other hand in paris they were talking about all this these kinds of wars i have some other outcomes eventually as that would grow old it gets closer and as the fatigue in western societies become deeper you will see more aggressive behavior from the other side which in this case is the taleban so this is this is going to escalate not decline in my opinion by loving couple a double sultanzoy political analyst and a former afghan m.p. thank you for joining us here on r.t. thank you. well up as we did a speak to stevens who knows he's a bit earlier in the program here on r.t. and professor of international studies at the university of san francisco he believes that no matter how strong the afghan army may be it will still never win its people in the country are deeply opposed to the current government. problem is
3:08 am
that even if they're very well trained even if they have the very best equipment. a strength of the afghan government relative to the taliban and other forms of resistance doesn't have credibility with the afghan people and while the vast majority not subscribe to child and extremist ideology many are very frustrated with corruption and. in arbitrariness of the government including ongoing acts of repression. all of the foreign presence to prop up this government and this this kind of environment leads to the rise of the extreme so it's not just your impression alone. would be keeping you up to date throughout the day on the situation in afghanistan after this brazen attack in the heart of the capital. but now the world's leading intelligence agencies have found themselves chasing their own tails off to edward snowden again slipped through the global surveillance web that he exposed at the n.s.a. whistleblower is now reported to be in hiding after sending off
3:09 am
a plane packed with journalists to cuba or the very same flight he was a shuttle to be on. reports from the airport shuttle where snowden was last the want to be. the only thing that we know for certain is that edward snowden's exact location. the white house suggested that they still believe that edward snowden is . in transit still in the airport terminal building behind me at the ecuadorian embassy of the country that he is seeking political asylum or at another location we simply do not know. now all reports point to the fact that he did in fact arrive here. on sunday at around five o'clock in the afternoon aeroflot flight inbound from hong kong was where he was in hiding for a fortnight after blowing the whistle on the n.s.a. surveillance operation but he has not been spotted since now russia's security
3:10 am
service the f.s.b. say they do not know where he is and the lack of sighting is causing some i'm blogging websites and social networks to question whether he even set foot in russia in the first place another thing that we do know is that ecuador is the country where he's seeking political asylum it was widely that that was going to be his target destination his final intended destination but with wiki leaks pulling the strings and organizing the whole thing some are now questioning whether it has all been. as you say the world's press a fly on an empty plane to cuba or a plane not containing edward snowden now at the moment it is fair to say that snowden is ahead of the game he's keeping not just the world's press but also the american authorities guessing as to his exact whereabouts but you get the feeling with the world watching that snowden's next move in this game of cat and mouse
3:11 am
could be crucial. and. he was all. that edward snowden was supposed to take. told us of the confusion on board when the press finally realized that the whistleblower the slip. i just got off the plane we just landed in hawaii on a coming from moscow to thirteen hour long flight and what can i see back and shooting me to up to the very last point everyone was still expecting edward snowden to shore to board that wing even when we were sitting there the whole plane was packed even when the a walk to the doors and it was taxiing that we had to take off still everyone was waiting for him at least to find him on the plane and when we were allowed to get up from our seats went to the seats. where they were supposed to be sitting and saw that they were empty some journalists were actually looking for them inside the airplane checking bathrooms checking places where mr snowden could have been hiding
3:12 am
since the very beginning it seemed almost one hundred percent that he was going to take this flight the increased security in the airport crowds of journalists were additional factors boosting these expectations although the dozens of journalists off the scoop of the year were left rather disappointed others made the most of it one of those being the seat seventeen a on the plane booked for snowden made the very most of his fifteen minutes of fame on twitter in the first tweet the seat without a passion just seemed upset writing i feel empty he was also a little annoyed that he couldn't make conversation with the seat next to it because a b.b.c. reporter was sitting on it seventeen i was also a little apprehensive of all the angry journalists and frankly irritated by no sign of the drinks trolley. well hear it out see we did speak to daniel ellsberg another problem american whistleblower he exposed the pentagon papers and nine hundred
3:13 am
seventy one to do with washington's issues over the vietnam war he believes at the end of the day very few people measure up to snowden's current sacrifice. i think he would be in much the same cell as bradley manning if not in the same cell that i want to go any could be on the national defense authorization act you could be in military detention but even if not he would be in a jail cell somewhere as incommunicado as bradley manning is for the last three years so i think it's very wise to make it to sponsors outside of this country and i think that we should be listening to what he has to say because what so far i've heard him say is there i look let me put in shows much better judgment than those of his colleagues who went along it's clearly unconstitutional but they were all participating i would say the charm carries calling him a traitor and just. he's no more a traitor than i am and i am not all that words used by a president and
3:14 am
a vice president both of whom by the way to lost their office for criminality nixon and i knew i think he is in the tradition of me can hail the first american to be convicted of tried in fact for giving secrets to americans he said i regret that i have but one life to give for my country because he's country was america and he was hanged by the british he was a spy for george washington i think that edward snowden has shown a willingness to give his life for this country and there's no american idol any more deserves to be honored at this moment. and offer a very short break here and he will bring you more on washington's frustration over its loss of snowden and the lack of cooperation in the global community.

show it's called. moscow with me whoa re sushi i watching tonight's shout threats towards the countries which will blow edward snowden has been used as stepping stones on his quest to freedom its war in china of the consequences of allowing the thirty year old to flee to russia while hinting that both moscow and beijing a far from being bastions of free speech auntie's gone a church account has more. the white house says hong kong officials had received washington's request to arrest no then and still made quote a deliberate choice to let him go so washington clearly takes it as a snub from china here's the president's press secretary we are just not buying that this was a technical decision by a hong kong immigration official this was a deliberate choice by the government to release a fugitive despite a valid arrest warrant and that decision unquestionably has
3:17 am
a negative impact on the u.s. china relationship we were never there in response to the u.s. request to arrest noted in the government of hong kong issued a statement saying that the documents the u.s. provided did not fully comply with the legal requirements on the hong kong law but also in that same statement the government of hong kong said they wanted more information from the u.s. government about the hacking of computer systems in hong kong by u.s. government agencies and that was one of edward snowden's revelations snowden gave china a great political counterargument to u.s. constant accusations against china now the u.s. can't accuse china of cyber attacks without being accused of hypocrisy so there is an interesting dynamic behind all this the u.s. one in china where the semi-autonomous government of hong kong to give them the man who had leaked u.s. secrets but one of those secrets is about activities of the u.s. government against china so it's possible that china's dilemma was to either think edward snowden or to arrest hong kong says they've done everything in accordance
3:18 am
with their own laws now as far as russia edward snowden has been in transit in russia and russian authorities say they have no legal authority to arrest him but u.s. politicians and pundits on television use what seems like a cold war rhetoric to present washington as the enemies that snowden is helping and the imagination of some german is running. as wild as they joke about how edward snowden is being briefed by the russian president in one form of social also on one of the news channels that russia and china are going to use this to embarrass the u.s. one should argue it's known as revelation. that embarrass the u.s. not russia or china but that's exactly what's happening now u.s. policymakers are doing everything possible to divert attention away from snowden's revelations and certainly one of the one way of doing this is to present it as a cold war style cat and mouse chase that way you have us media now almost cheering for edward snowden is capture although just a little while ago some of the same journalists were grateful for great for
3:19 am
a greater public awareness of the fact that the u.s. government is spying on millions of people who have done nothing wrong but of course has no illusions as to what lengths the u.s. government will go to catch him at which snowden also said it's not government persecution that he fears most he said the greatest fear that i have about the outcome of these disclosures is that nothing will change from how it's developing it doesn't look like things will change for americans anytime soon but for the world the occasions of his revelations could be significant for example the fact that the u.s. now can't accuse china of cyber attacks without being accused of hypocrisy which in the corresponding. charlie mcgrath one of the founders of an unseen mainstream news wire out of wide awake news he believes the us should try and give up lecturing the rest of the world. we saw carney played out today press secretary carney talking about we demand this and we don't accept that you know we're not talking to children although it seems that this government in its quest for all the power
3:20 am
wants to talk down its nose to the world as if they are children but the fact of the matter is these are sovereign nations of china wants to be not seen him back you don't see it because they don't want him to endure political prosecution then they then apparently have every right not to be the government's upset the power brokers in washington d.c. are very upset the security does to accomplish is very upset this is obvious by their actually that everything that they're doing is trying to smoke and mirror shift the blame shift the focus from the information has been revealed tell the perp on to the person who revealed the information it really is like i said i hope he makes it to where he's going standing upright and breathing but the true story here is the decimation of personal freedom inside of this country the united states now ecuador has reportedly given snowden a refugee papers while he does consider his asylum request but as foreign minister has declined to reveal whether whistleblower is snowden's trek to ecuador is being

organized by wiki leaks according to his chief julian assange a more on this now to london and his pony boy julian the signs are saying that they are in contact with adults in a tent and the wish you would see correct sense of traveling with him they said that they are by a healthy and in good spirits i mean the secret location that they can't disclose now they've spoken a lot about the very. behavior of the us administration in relation to a number of nations through which edward snowden has been reported to be traveling the fact that they've been demanding for his extradition now wiki leaks have said that edward snowden is north to trace as the u.s. secretary of state was calling him and yet he's a hero as we know that wiki leaks has been assisting edward snowden both with his asylum request to ecuador as well as with legal representation so we're going to be following this story as it develops for you from london or london correspondent

palestine or the tops in homes of arab villages in the west bank run dry most of the time they complain israel doesn't satisfy even the minimum water requirements on these poor us live reports. the taps in hamad mohammed's home are there more as a sign of hope there's been no water through them for five long months. the municipality does not give us water as these should water it comes through our pipes twice a year minimum built in an hour's drive north and or did start another day in the office the mayor of the effect settlement has lots on his mind but not a lack of water we have one big water tank with supplies water also to both the arab villages which are on the other side of the security fence where basically they get their water supply from the water tank of the front more than three hundred thousand palestinians across the west bank are not connected to water

network according to palestinian human rights groups israeli officials say the number is less than half that since the one nine hundred sixty seven occupation all water resources are exclusively in his radio hands but a joint group established back in one thousand nine hundred three to ensure supplies has left the palestinians short changed here israel has repeatedly made as a condition for its approval of palestinian projects that the palestinian authority approve new wells and pipelines for israeli settlements the palestinian authority mainly because it's desperate for water for its population has approved virtually every one of the israeli settlement projects the palestinians weren't left behind. their opinion community wanted to invest their money that the palestinian authority will have such systems like we have in a fraud or like we have in the whole of israel unfortunately what happened their

money was taken all misused and basically found itself in private bank accounts by the leaders of the palestinian authority despite repeated requests these rady water authority declined to talk to r.t. its website says israel has not only fulfilled its obligations to provide water to palestinians but exceeded them it accuses palestinians of breaching the agreement by drilling and authorized wells failing to operate a sewerage and of not developing any resources. the fact of the matter is that a shortage of water is not a problem for israelis whereas it's a daily struggle for tens of thousands of palestinians something that's a little difficult to swallow. especially for the hundred thousand people living here in the west bank's biggest palestinian city who rely on this man it's his job to direct what little water there is to a different neighborhood each day we raise the baby two thousand cubic meter of

honest error you think that workers in an organization that could punish you for your financial failings would be very sharp with their own money but that's sadly not the case according to an audit report from the treasury inspector general for tax administration at the very least one thousand iris employees have abused the charge cards they were issued to cover their official travel expenses some of these people are very high in the letter including an executive level official a criminal investigator and multiple deployers with security clearances much of the abuses related to employees writing checks for big purchases which later balanced due to accounts being empty yeah the people who could ruin your life for one little financial folly seem to have no problem over drawing while they are living it up on taxpayer funded travel to keep things in perspective the iris is a huge organization so one thousand abusers is a minority but in the spirit of fairness i think these card abusers should be punished just as harshly as normal people who run afoul of the i.r.s.
