relations call it a trade pact with the u.s. labeling it as washington's instrument of blackmail over the political asylum bit of the n.s.a. whistleblower. in egypt supporters and opponents of president morsi hold massive. reports of deadly clashes coming from alexandria and. disturbing and brutal footage from syria appears on the web claiming rebel fighters beheading supporters of the government.
12:01 pm
from the new center here in moscow this is r.t. with twenty four hours a day edward snowden has become the centerpiece of a boiling diplomatic row between ecuador and washington the whistleblower who expose u.s. intelligence operations is meanwhile still believed to be stuck in the transit zone of moscow's. is also. the latest so quite a strong reaction from ecuador to washington over its bid to get it. exactly explain tower. they have certainly responded quite brashly in the sense that they've. been which is known as the. trade. that. the trade agreement that sort of gave ecuador beneficial preferences
12:02 pm
in its business relations with the united states preemptively saying that this was in response to quote a blackmail of ecuador over in the former n.s.a. contractor as asylum requests now. officials us speaking at an early morning press conference also announce that they are offering a twenty three million dollar donation to the united states supposedly to help the united states for human rights training this is seen as a response of u.s. criticism of ecuador's own human rights record which isn't exactly so bright so certainly a lot of public public statements public reaction sort of trying to indicate that i will not bow to u.s. pressure in regard to the asylum request over and mr stone and at the same time it should be said we have seen more information leak out about internal divisions within ecuador as to what to do about snowden in a press conference on thursday ecuadorian officials said that they have not yet granted him asylum request in fact in order for him to formally apply he would have
12:03 pm
to do so on ecuadorian soil now what does that mean that would either mean being in a ecuador which he can't do at the moment since he has no passport or any means of getting there or that would mean applying at an embassy since embassy is and embassy grounds are essentially considered to be official soil of whatever country is in question again snowden is presumed to be stuck in that transit area so not quite clear how he could get that there has been some speculation that i could or would grant mr snowden special papers that would allow him to leave and perhaps purchase and take it and apply for asylum but again no confirmation that that's happened so again more questions than answers in regards to the fate of mr snowden and this you say you are too but he's in the transit zone somewhere behind you and sharon through the airport but we're getting a lot of speculation the moment he could in fact have left the transit zone is that really possible doing. well if we look at the facts the technical for. in order to
12:04 pm
leave the transit area i mean how did he get here in the first place he bought a flight that would have taken him to cuba and route to ecuador because there's no direct flights to ecuador in order to do that's the reason that he was able to enter russia is because it was a transit flight and that and that means he doesn't need a visa to be in russia because theoretically he wasn't supposed to be entering russian territory he missed that flight and now he's essentially remain stuck in that area and the united states has cancelled his passport so in order for him to physically be able to leave the transit area he would need a valid passport and a russia visa of course russian officials could theoretically come up with some sort of paperwork try to make some sort of an arrangement to do so we haven't heard any evidence at least on the record that this may have been the case or even in the works the only information that we have so far is basically based on common sense president vladimir putin made a few days ago which indicates that he believes that mr snowden is in that transit area that said it is a bit strange that we've been here for several days now and not a single order has caught sight of him granted it is
12:05 pm
a large airport perhaps he's kept in some special v.i.p. area there was some reports that he had checked into that special transit hotel here but a lot of reporters have also checked into that same transit house hotel and again no sight of him we did call the sheremetyevo airport to confirm that to get out of that transit area does that mean you're actually entering russian territory and yes indeed it does so without that passport without paperwork the only way that he'd be able to get out of this if there were some special sort of behind closed doors deal made and no indication at this point at least as far as we know that that has happened so that's the presumption but again no one has seen him on the mystery continues to come no for you very much indeed for the laws are and i hope so i'm. poor. so snowden has become the subject of a diplomatic rift between quito and washington but ecuador isn't the only potential escape destination for the whistleblower let's take a look at where else he could end up well he left for russia from hong kong and
12:06 pm
many expected moscow to be only a brief stopover it was believed the thirty year old would head then to cuba and on to ecuador to quito the whistleblower never turned up on that of an up and flight well let's just go through all of snowden's potential options one by one now cuba appears to be out of the picture a u.s. government report claims that the caribbean nation will not accept american fugitives snowden had previously said iceland is a country which shares his values and we kill its affiliates now await word from the interior ministry there and venezuela has been willing to open its doors to the thirty year old nicolas maduro the president there praising snowden for what he has done and other south american destination ecuador looks likely but cannot yet grant him asylum like they did to do most of you just heard there from lucy kavanagh well that's because snowden is not on ecuador and or their embassy michael ratner he's an attorney for julian assange and wiki leaks he believes that more countries
12:07 pm
should follow teeters lead in standing up to washington. at the hand of the fact we're going to the small country of nine million people breaking its trade preferences saying this is not the old latin america they used to have racist beat us up with a big stick we don't care about your trade preferences so it gives me more hope that ed snowden may be able to make it to ecuador i know that it's time for every country to speak up if this is not just about american citizens and our email being looked at in all our phone calls but the us combined with the u.k. which is getting into all the fiber optics and that's really a particularly what i think germany was concerned by going after all of they had and germany to its credit has spoken up of course germany had the stasi operating in east germany and i think it's very very concerned that ten percent of their population was under heavy surveillance from the stasi now it's one hundred percent on perhaps that is one of the reasons that has made germany so sensitive on this
12:08 pm
issue or not so sensitive having the sensitivity that all countries ought to have x. general james cartwright a man he was once america's second highest ranking military official is being investigated for allegedly leaking secret information about a u.s. cyber attack on iran's nuclear facility the u.s. army's meanwhile responded to the backlash of the mounting security revelations by limiting internet access for its personnel we have the details now from gun it just can. in two thousand and ten when the u.s. carried out this cyber attack against iran general cartwright was vice chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and he was reported to be one of the crucial players in this cyber attack he resigned in two thousand and eleven and he is now apparently being investigated as the leaker of that story as you remember at the niek about the obama administration having carried out this cyber attack against iran came before the election last year and the timing raise a lot of questions because president obama all but bragged about that operation as
12:09 pm
he ran for reelection as you remember everybody kind of assumed that it was one of those off the rise because the administration seemed formation all the time to further its own goals but the timing of this particular about the general being investigated is also very interesting he hasn't been charged with any crimes and yet again from an unnamed source that he's being investigated and this is happening at a time when the hunt for edward snowden is in full swing is the administration trying to make a point here trying to sort of say that they're targeting even the sources of those leaks that they liked it really is not clear at this point not clear whether it's their way of trying to fight the perception that the administration deeks all it wants and targets only those who's the weeks and bears the government now as far as the government's reaction to the leaks we just learned that the guardian's recent stories about n.s.a. surveillance have been blocked across the entire u.s. army one of the papers here talks to an army spokesman who confirmed that the
12:10 pm
guardian's website had been blocked since the stories first emerged the spokesman said the army was weeding out quote some access to press coverage and online content about the n.s.a. leaks so that employees would not be able to see any classified information for more on the story make sure you log on to all to you don't come because we've got the latest on it would snowden and we're tracking the reaction his situation is causing on social media that's all just a click away for you right now. fresh clashes have erupted in egypt between president morsi backers and his opponents
12:11 pm
with reports saying a protester has been shot dead in the city of alexandria dozens said to be injured rival groups are staging rallies ahead of a massive opposition demonstration on sunday marking the egyptian leaders first year in office well let's get the details now from bill true she is in caro so it's a rapidly developing story now bel-air for the country. absolutely these bloody street battles raging between do you suppose the president and there was against a moment egypt's coastal city of alexandria this started this often named after demonstration by anti government protesters and so descended into the scenes when they were confronted by their you supported the president the police for that part time to contain the violence using tear gas however they are unable to control the situation and have been fatalities because you had reports that protesters have attacked the missing money that headquarters in the closest city on exams here.
12:12 pm
states this is a worrying trend here in egypt where we're having these very bloody clashes between civilians as the country becomes increasingly to find its i mean we're all here in the capital as you can see behind me hundreds of thousands of people have come out in support of the president in a city mimic learning disability is a red line they say they voted for the president and that's what they want their voice to be and if the president is serious sign it should be used to change it should be through the ballot box not be forced by the streets it's a very different scene just a few kilometers. wayne countries when opponents of morsi have gathered already i intend to thousands as well largely spearheaded by a grassroots campaign called rebel and they are calling for president morsi to step down i may say this is a make or break moment it's a worrying sign the country's becoming divided increasingly violent in the lead up to the first anniversary of president morsi is real but you people are worrying are going to see a lot more fatalities in the future well thanks very much indeed for that live
12:13 pm
update there in cairo artie's bell true there well was his first year in office has been marred by ongoing political unrest middle east expert and author tariq ali he believes that despite the revolt that brought morsi to power the country is still deeply divided. i hear it goes without saying and morsi himself is partially admit it that he's disappointed as far as those people who helped to bring mubarak down of concerned or a sizeable section of them he's changed absolutely nothing since he's come to these protests or to show that the democratic fig leaf is not a laugh so what will happen on sunday i think will be quite decisive it's not the case that he is bereft of support it's just the guy who creates a very very sharply divided between those who want some meaningful change and the government which is maintaining continue to do with the previous regime and in some

an assault on a ministry this report now contains graphic images which many will find disturbing . plus disturbing and brutal footage has appeared online and what you see is a group of men with what looks to be a kitchen knife in their hands decapitating one by one three men on the ground it's all happening on a small hill than in the distance there is a group of women and children looking on all of this is happening to the cries of akbar god is great the three men purported to be supporters of the syrian president bashar assad now at the same time the video appears under the heading of free syrian army cannibals decapitate an orthodox christian bishop it's not clear whether or not the bishop is one of the three men but what we do know is that a syrian bishop was killed while trying to protect religious sisters franciscan monastery in the north of syria this video appears some six weeks after similar

brutal footage was also captured online and at that time there was the leader of a syrian rebel group known as the fabric brigade showed biting into the heart of a did a syrian soldier all of this highlights the brutality of the syrian opposition and the extremist elements inside it it comes after meetings of the friends of syria in which the united states pledged support to say and weapons to this opposition the u.k. and france indicating that they will model over this although indicating they support for such measures all of this lends a very warring scenario and that is why countries like russia have indicated they're operated weapons being sent to syria saying that it only perpetuates the conflict and benefits at the hands of extremist elements there. got the best stories and pictures for you let's just hopeful of what they've got there the moment.

war on terror is actually making the british safe. they're accused of hacking a soldier to death on the streets of london and now preparing to stand trial until the free nazis but we don't even face the problems and it's just what i'm saying the chilling message an indication of what drove the attack but the politicians say it's nonsense it's people need to plead to speak to each of these policing save it for the. twenty to eighteen leap between this media you could use for you to see all the actions you would be sure to the students who are risking their lives they would for the sake of freedom but there are those who took part in those military campaigns fast hand who disagree jerry says he was disillusioned by the reality of what fighting for freedom in the name of britain safety and volved compared to some of the excesses in afghanistan and iraq. which is

a very serious called quote of the charge the lie but it's absolutely true and we're very lucky that they've already been so few attacks why they said one of the banners we went to afghanistan under was face peacekeeping and in our peacekeeping operation we ran out of explosive artillery ammunition that gulf between how the war is presented and the bleak reality is all too evident for many in britain's vast muslim community really are in contact with our friends friends and family or back home and the we know what exactly is going on over there while we see. some of the media reports from the u.k. or do people additions there are speeches in parliament it's not reflecting the realities for afghanistan the war and yet there's been almost no public or political discussion about the western wars that drove the attack in which is because they obviously want to prosecute the wars the wars in afghanistan iraq and the project and have a look at the projects in the middle east is very longstanding it pre-dates not
