good morning. a.t.m. on monday tea with me straight to our breaking news for you this hour for the first time since the outbreak of the syrian conflict israel has used turkish military bases for strikes against syria and that's according to sources let's head over to our middle east correspondent joining us live here on the paula good morning to you from moscow can you bring us up to speed here what do you know. well what we are hearing from our r.t. sources is that israel used turkish military bases to strike on syria now in early july they was a predawn attack on the syrian port in the city of latakia that allegedly targeted russian made. missiles u.s. officials speaking on condition of anonymity said that this attack on this weapons depot was carried out by israeli fighter jets it happened not far from
12:02 am
a russian base there is suspicion that israel was responsible from various quarters what we do know is that in that attack syria several syrian troops were killed or wounded now no one has officially camp responsibility for those strikes and the israeli government has declined to comment there is confusion as to what exactly happened we're also hearing reports that the attack was carried out by long range missiles or could have been carried out by long range missiles that were fired from boats in the mediterranean what is important is that the attack from the reports we have from our sources here in r.t. originated on the turkish side of the border our sources telling us that israeli planes lift a military base inside turkey and approach the taqiyya from the sea to make sure that they stayed out of syrian airspace so that they could not become a legitimate target for the syrian air force this if true is yet another brazen israeli attack on
12:03 am
a foreign country without any declaration of war and it would be the fourth attack on syria by israel just this year alone paula if you would just take us back for a minute here israel and circuit they haven't exactly been the best of friends in recent years have or. no israel and turkey have not been the best of friends in recent years we have the flip tell incident back in two thousand and ten in which nine people were killed that was condemned internationally and although there were conflicting reports. as to exactly what happened israel never stepped forward with an apology and told march and when israel did apologize turkey accepted the apology there was a lot of fanfare and international coverage made over that but it was really surprising because the two countries were really at odds at the time to keep record its ambassador it suspended ties with israel and what we see now is a sudden change of heart into a key towards israel this is
12:04 am
a very unusual regional development because you have both regional powers who looked at odds with each other and then we have this recent information about compilation of an attack inside syria now what might be a real surprise for many of our viewers how deeply embedded israel and turkey at one stage were the two countries had very close relations in the one nine hundred ninety s. particularly military cooperation all of that deteriorated after the fratelli incident they can now be legitimate questions asked about the sincere motivation for the apology that israel gave over that flotilla incident questions need to be asked how and why an islamic country like turkey is allowing its arch enemy israel to use turkish bases to bomb a nother muslim nation and no doubt there is going to be massive fallout for turkey because of this corporation with israel or the latest on this breaking news here on our tour with quality of life and style of the thank you. now if this in is indeed
12:05 am
this month's latakia strike proving to be the israeli defense forces possibly a fourth attack against syria in six months let's take a look now at the start sit back at some of the previous raids here we have it military compound just outside damascus was born from the air on january thirty first there we go the beginning of twenty third scene of a second similar operation reportedly happened on may third as well that's when rockets struck a warehouse at damascus international airport. didley containing surface to air missiles now just two days later massive blast when described as earthquake like they shook the same military base that was targeted in january on all occasions the attacks were justified as operations to wipe out iranian missiles abound for hezbollah but middle east expert and historian tariq ali he says israel is looking to get square with hezbollah or by ultimately trying to choke the syrian regime its
12:06 am
roots motivation as all widgets to show the arabs both inside israel an outside look this is how tough we are we can hit any get in the middle east that we want to no one can do anything about it this is a country which is above the law considers itself about the law and its united states musters and its european friends will do nothing to stop i have very little doubt that these release informed the united states that we are going to attack look back at his will is like a red bull to the israelis and the israelis haven't been able to wipe it out though they've tried many a try they're now hoping that they can do it by completely weakening all destroying the syrian regime the syrian state could break up or be completely destroyed so they are not unaware of of what is happening in that country and in directly i

would say yes they are providing help to the rebels. now turkey and israel have been at loggerheads since the twenty ten commando raid on a turkish humanitarian aid flotilla which sparked fury from ankara at the time the turkish prime minister to separate out of the one accused israel of carrying out a massacre saying tell if we wouldn't be able to wash the blood off its hands that's ok as outrage was echoed by the u.n. human rights council report slamming israeli troops for breaching international law and using quote an unacceptable level of brutality now in twenty twelve a trial in absentia began a vote for former israeli commandos old charges of inciting murder through cruelty and torture however on march twenty second this year all legal action came to an unexpected and abrupt halt any minute netanyahu and out of the one spoke on the phone with the israeli prime minister expressing his regret for the loss of turkish life now turkey's of course been
12:08 am
a key player in the syrian conflict certainly over the past two years once strong allies ankara and damascus fell out when the syrian unrest began as turkey sided with the opposition and called on president assad to step down and maintains what's been described as an open door policy towards its arab neighbors. now around four hundred thousand refugees have fled across the border into turkey most of them settling down in what's become known as a buffer zone meanwhile and korea's been facilitating the transfer of weapons and equipment to the syrian rebels with arms and legibly coming in from u.s. allies all across the region rebel fighters and mercenaries have also been granted safe passage or both ways across the border turkey has given key syrian political and military figures a platform for plotting their strategy against the syrian government now the cross border tension has seen several exchanges of mortar and artillery fire one of the sharpest escalations came when syria shot down a turkish reconnaissance plane just
12:09 am
a year ago i do stay with us here on r.t. for more updates on this breaking news story throughout the day. for now on the program syrian state television has announced the army has discovered a rebel operated chemical lab packed with toxic substances the military claims they were destined to be packed into mortars and used to attack government forces in damascus it comes a week after the army found over two hundred eighty barrels of hazardous chemicals at a rebel hideout in a different city the syrian u.n. ambassador claimed it was potentially enough to destroy the whole city if not the whole country allegations of chemical weapons being used by both sides have been a crucial issue in the international dispute on how to handle the conflict in syria and defense consultant moeen rolf said it's now vitally important to find out where the rebels a getting these chemicals from. the. well is that the military let's get rid of
12:10 am
military. fuel. they should. we will root. or if you look at me. and at the beginning of the piece oh well you know like iraq and a little bit below it going up to one man and destroying the nation like don't be a me get a reaction and. not react it's really to run it but it wouldn't be iraq so i'm sure we want. it. and i still had a few in the program so r.t. as edward snowden remains holed up in moscow's sheremetyevo airport we take a closer look at the scope of his revelations in just a couple of minutes. plus that we turn our gaze into egypt which is forming
12:11 am
a new government amid a freeze on islamists assets and continuing protests demanding the reinstatement of the i'll have more on that very soon. for the meantime though here in r.t. several u.s. cities have been gripped by protests against the controversial acquittal of george zimmerman he was cleared of murder charges after a shooting dad and unarmed black teenager demonstrations turn violent in los angeles police fired rubber bullets at the crowds and the new york several protesters were arrested as thousands blocked the streets in the city center the latest here now to want to use marina portnoy in los angeles the rally has gotten someone to say quite violent violent because some of the protesters participating in the in the justice for trayvon rally were shot at by rubber bill bullets those bullets were fired by these officers in los angeles we are again receiving reports that some protesters have been transferred to local hospitals to be treated for
12:12 am
their injuries we don't know how extreme the injuries are streets are clearly still full with lots of protesters that are have been walking hour by hour all through the streets of manhattan it started out in union square and the procession of people interest groups. larger and louder i caught up with the crowd it out it was probably in its thousands on twenty third street at that point the crowd was so large that cars could not pass through the streets hoarding to what we know there have been at least five arrests that number is you know we're being more cautious but that number according to reports that number is quite quite higher now what has brought all these people onto the streets of new york city in los angeles and boston elsewhere is clearly the frustration aggravation that millions of americans have with the verdict that came down for george zimmerman george zimmerman as you mentioned was found not guilty in acquitted on the charges
12:13 am
a second degree murder of george zimmerman a neighborhood watch volunteer shot and killed seventeen year old trayvon martin he was in self-defense now that was his claim and that's what the jury up millions of americans believe that this is not just a matter of stand your ground or or self-defense this is a matter of a man that was a community watch person that was armed with a gun and we spoke with some of those participating in the in the rallies here's what they had to say this verdict makes it very clear and gives a green light to anyone that wants to shoot and kill a youth of color you know and you can get off the rock and go on and live your life and it's ok to do haven't done it. and it's terrifying that i now have to go and have this conversation with her about being profiled and keeping her saying and helping her understand what she has to do to keep herself safe against other people and the police department. now overnight protests from saturday and sunday did
12:14 am
get quite heated particularly in oakland california where we saw video of the windows of police cars in the windows of buildings being smashed by some of those that were participating in rallies meantime the u.s. justice department has announced that it will be. investigating and looking into whether or not a civil rights. prosecution should be raised against i george zimmerman and in the meantime. the acquittal of zimmerman sets a dangerous precedent that could go on to split american society along racial fault lines. of course act based upon the racial profiling political culture that exists broadly here in the united states he is not a law enforcement officer he had no right to be pursuing trayvon martin at the same time the people who came to his defense are the same people who defend white cops
12:15 am
who defend what grace is when they take this type of blatant violent action against african-americans this is clearly a case of people of color of oppressed people here in the united states not being able to achieve justice inside this country and what's very interesting about this case is that many people don't realize this is definitely going to have long term implications in regard to race relations in the united states it's not an isolated incident george zimmerman would have never even then arrested or indicted in this case if it had not been for the out of millions of african-americans and their supporters throughout the country just one and a half years ago they were going to allow him to go scot free in this killing and they have done so anyway so kind of a half years later. much more news right now including russia. military drills since soviet times talking about one hundred sixty thousand.
12:16 am
one hundred thirty planes all taking part in the war games the full story right now a click away at home. taking to the skies a canadian engineer has created the world's human. home as we watch the video. revolutionary machine fueled only by the pilot. in the program here on edward snowden's fate could finally see some clarity as a whistle blower has reportedly reapplied for refuge from moscow meanwhile glenn greenwald the guardian journalist who is said to hold all of the snowden's future revelations in his hands he claims the next leak could be the one the american governments were expecting. takes a closer closer look i should say and just exactly what's been revealed so far. well not only are civilians from all over the world being monitored but so are governments that are closely allied to the united states according to newspaper
12:17 am
reports thirty eight separate missions and embassies have been surveilled the countries believed to have been spied on are in green that starts in the asia pacific region south korean authorities to reinforce anti bugging measures after their missions were allegedly spied upon japan also fell foul to u.s. surveillance now moving it to the middle east iran's nuclear facilities of course a long time cause of contention were apparently targeted by a computer virus created by the u.s. and israel in two thousand and nine it's claimed the n.s.a. got their hands on top secret communications between russian president dmitri medvedev and his delegation during the g. twenty in london if we move to europe french president francois hollande said negotiations over a huge pending trade deal between the u.s. and the shouldn't go ahead into washington halted any surveillance activity on a new allies moving to latin america where oil and military purchases were
12:18 am
monitored in venezuela there were also telephone and e-mail intercepts in colombia a close military ally of washington while brazil has expressed its deep concern about revelations that its citizens were spied on in an industrial scale now these are just some examples of the thirty eight countries missions and embassies the u.s. are thought to have spied on a many of these nations remember a friendly to washington one such country is germany which was particularly stung by snowden's revelations europe strongest economy is it seems being closely watched by the united states with around five hundred million data intercepts each month these include mehta data on emails telephone calls s.m.s. text instant messages meanwhile in china of course the country that allowed snowden to slip through the net when he fled hong kong leaks revealed that every chinese computer that is hacked thirty three percent of these attacks originate from in america. can i pay addressed and it's not just civilians being monitored hospitals
12:19 am
and universities are also being targeted when you look at the scale in the scope of america's global surveillance program and the fact that allied governments have also been bugged in recent years it makes it increasingly difficult for washington to get continue using national security as a justification for simply appears to be mass espionage are still to come here when i see they gave it away now they want it back residents and the london bar fight legal battles with the off stories who are trying to take back their social housing because they desperately need the money that's coming up very shortly here on the program. but for now here on our team as it turns twenty minutes past the hour moscow time egypt's new government is slowly taking shape amid continuing protests by supporters of the deposed president mohamed morsi and with the muslim brotherhood's top figures arrested and investigated the islamists are fast in rejecting the military overthrow of the nation's leader now nearly two years ago.
12:20 am
true in cairo has more on this egypt's prosecuted general this is from judicial sources has actually frozen the assets of fourteen leading is a mistake is who is behind mohammed morsi this comes you know after of course the reports all the rest so many of the leaders and of course after these recent reports all of the charges laid against the president himself meanwhile the most a brotherhood for their part maintains they will steadfast if they want president the former president morsi to come back and they will not move from a sit in a mosque in central cairo and that the university of to cairo in tokyo is reinstated meanwhile we're seeing significant developments here in the interim government because a lot of appointments and i don't want to make significant ones is the vice president of foreign affairs and mohamed el baradei he is a leading opposition figure and once had what was the largest to coalition of opposition forces the national salvation front another leading appointment is it that it's. this. former egyptian ambassador to the u.s.
12:21 am
the bill for me he was a barack era ambassador and it is very well regarded in washington in america to these two appointments mohamed el baradei and the bill for me could be seen to be a nod towards the west as they both have very good relations with america meanwhile america for their part have announced that they will have an envoy coming to you. to egypt the first to come from america to egypt since the ouster of mohamed morsi this is a leading member of the state department bill burns america is looking cautiously egypt at the moment they haven't announced the last two weeks as a coup neither have they confirmed that it neither confirm that it isn't it's obviously very important that definition because that would affect u.s. assistance to egypt you know america paid to be extending a hand out to the new interim government so we have yet to see what's going to happen with the people who are determined to support the deposed leader whether that involves clashes in the future and also to see how this interim government
12:22 am
continues in the next few months. i mean all the muslim brotherhood has called for one million people to march on monday a middle east journalist barry lando he believes if the group isn't included in the transitional government in egypt are we facing even more chaos. and the big question is what what power will they really have the civilians i mean it's really the it's really the military are running the job they run their country since one thousand nine hundred thirty two and to say that they are now somehow going to lead the muslim brotherhood back in to the political game i think that's that's the big question morsi being much more all than he was to the opposition not trying to get a monopoly on power as he did i mean morsi played a very stupid game and in effect shot himself down and. shut his own party down at the same time and he's he's as much response was anyone for creating the mess that
12:23 am
egypt is in right now if that the muslim brotherhood now is frozen out out the future polluter. with egypt where it's a political crisis is impacting on the notorious sinai peninsula violence is on the rise in the rest of area with militants firing a missile at a bus killing three people and wounding seventeen more security officials say the vehicle was carrying workers going to a local cement factory and in another incident militants blew up a police station that was under construction and even one person seriously injured the mayhem in egypt has led to concerns over security in sinai which doesn't border israel but the region is flooded with weapons smuggled in from libya. and the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is again raising his and iranian rhetoric in an interview with america's c.b.s. he called iran's incoming president hassan rouhani
12:24 am
a quote wolf in sheep's clothing and on yahoo also wants a ratcheting up of sanctions on tehran and is prepared for military measures if they don't work. either way across iraq killed more than forty people on sunday alone in one incident three bombs exploded near the shiite party headquarters in the city of basra claiming at least eight lives but the death toll has now surpassed three hundred in the month of july as iraq is swept by sectarian violence that's continue to escalate this. hour that was the world update here on the program for now there were residents of a district of london could soon be out on the streets with or to save people living in social housing blocks need to be relocated because the council can't afford to keep them. in gauging reaction. it is said to be his castle but now those living in social housing here in the london borough of lambert
12:25 am
are fighting a fierce legal battle to save their homes if you. have a cease fire an old negotiate a treaty which. sort of recognise julian and his neighbors live in what's been dubbed short life housing they used to be thousands of such chains and birth now there are just seventy five short life housing came about some thirty years ago when the councils who couldn't afford to maintain these properties gave people who needed than the opportunity to live here for little or no rent on the basis that they maintained now though with house prices having skyrocketed the council wants them back those who took part in the short life of arrangement invested large amounts of time and often money to bring the properties up to a habitable standard. so.
12:26 am
print. the flooring. needs replacing now or maybe this wouldn't flooring with all. on today's property market and these homes know what a substantial sum and with council budgets being cut to the land it needs the money in a statement to see they say the coalition government has instigated a wanted program of cuts financial constraints in local government and as a result is extremely short of the capital necessary to upgrade its social housing stock needs to raise capital to fund works resolving the short life properties offers a way for generating part of the capital we require i feel very strongly that we need to keep affordable housing in the long run we need to keep prices and that it's wrong to be selling them off for short term profit when actually these people could be given tendencies and pay rent to lambaste but the homes should stay in
12:27 am
affordable social housing for people who can't afford to buy. but has offered to me has the residence but often the opposite the house is far from the community many have spent the past few decades and the homes they've invested in and love the pound signs in their eyes they're just interested in steam rolling it through they're not looking at the social values of the human costs it's whole by looking at the bottom line and i understand michael forces have to look at the bottom line but you know this is no way to be raising funds off the back of other people's lives the made by the council is being protested all across the borough at various events including a flash mob at the state agency. but as those who live in short life housing anxiously await the outcome of their legal cases many feel that land labor council that the cooperative council is in fact shutting them out.
12:28 am
so. see london. or it is nearly eight thirty am monday morning here in moscow we've got breaking news for you this hour here on our to a recap of what we know so far information from sources claim israel used turkish army bases to launch one of its attacks on syria and the latest alleged israeli strike on the water on country hit the key port over the tukey earlier this month and his claim to have targeted a stockpile of russian made antiship missiles if the attack proves to be an israeli defense force operation that could become tel of eve's fourth attack against syria in six months or bring in more of that in our next platoon in just over an hour's time for the meantime though here on our tape it's time for me to step aside for a sort of free ship or not say a program so if eco is coming up. some
