although that could take three months to process in the meantime he will receive documents we believe within five days which would allow him to go through passport control because at the moment we should remember he doesn't have a valid passport or visa in the meantime his lawyer said the reason he has applied for asylum is because he fears for his own life if he should return to the u.s. . but when asked migration service agent why he chose to file his petition in russian and why he came here he replied that he fears for his life and wellbeing and also fears that he could face torture or execution and what he says sounds quite convincing as the u.s. still are ministers both capital punishment and. therefore i believe that under such circumstances and considering his reputation he should be granted temporary asylum i think this would be a humane step and since russia's actions humanely but the u.s.

government cannot view this as hostile behavior towards the united states. but even though you. were his lawyer also added that mr snowden had agreed it appears not to release further documents that could harm u.s. interests while he's on russian territory mr snowden's words that goal is attainable but it's an important point because president putin has made this a precondition of asylum because as you heard there from the quote from the lawyer russia wants to be seen in this saga is having a humanitarian role and wants to make it very clear that this is not a hostile act towards the u.s. so why is he has his papers in place and can leave the airport what sort of options lie ahead of him. well we hear firstly he has to find accommodation we're not quite sure how much help he will get with that but secondly if he is granted political asylum temporary political asylum for one year he will have the rights
