breaking news this hour and snowden has reportedly submitted documents to a border control area of the airport he has been holed up in shortly after the russian the lawyer assisting him brought the official papers whistleblower needs to leave the transit zone. it is six pm in the russian capital you're watching r t with me marina joshie welcome to the program and we start of course with our breaking news story washington's most wanted man atwood snowden has reportedly received permission to set foot on russian soil as a crucial paperwork has been issued to wow him to leave the transit zone of

moscow's sheremetyevo airport well let's get the very latest now from our correspondent in zee france who is standing by outside of the airport when say hi there so bring us up to speed. from rene it's been a very long day waiting for this fateful document to arrive to sheremetyevo airport effectively allowing edward snowden to step out of the confines of the airport after his month long waits and on to officially russian soil now just to give people an idea of what this document means if the federal migration services a formal notification that it is officially considering his bid for temporary asylum so the three month wait that it takes for the federal migration service to reach that that decision will be a free time for him he can move about the country freely that decision will then be reached within three months and he will find out whether or not russia will give
10:02 am
him temporary asylum so all indications point to the fact that that document arrived in the hands of the russian lawyer who is the. point an advisor to mr snowden anatoly. and he came into the airport. with it and bag that is reported to to hold some fresh clothes and those all important fresh documents for mr snowden pushing aside the police and the and b. journalists waiting with bated breath near the entrance to the area where mr snowden is being held right now we were we were able to get close enough to hear a little bit about what he told journalists to expect to hear very soon. i'm not going to comment on anything only after my consultations with edward i will be able to say something to you. so as impatient as we journalists are at this point to get an appearance for mr
10:03 am
snowden or even a couple of words preferably as to what his plans are at this point he is still with his advisers and prepare preparing for his next move now if the decision at the end of this three months is favorable to snowden he says he plans to pursue work and to make russia his home now if the decision is not favorable there's a plan there too he plans to appeal that decision that shows just how serious he actually is at this point of of of remaining here on russian soil so. we are we are all looking towards those doors that are being heavily guarded by the police at this point so we've got correspondents inside keeping an eye on how things are going there and hoping just to get a glimpse of edward snowden as he possibly makes russia his new home for it listen thank you so much for this update and of course as you said we are closely monitoring all the sources that are available for us at this point that was lindsey
10:04 am
france there standing by outside of the airport right now what we're hearing is the ads on until he could run as a word. representing edward snowden has come out of the airport but he has come out all by himself without edward snowden inside of course we are waiting and hoping and while that is happening we have iver across in the studio to talk us through all these latest developments while i were the latest that we have for now is that we know that edward snowden has got his papers to at least step out of the transit zone and come out of the airport and as lindsey just told us there will be three months of waiting from you know the federal migration services of the u.s. for the final decision so right now while we're waiting talk us through what snowden can expect next. right he needs to. confirm his status as an asylum seeker he's taken a major step towards that by going from somebody without any documents whatsoever we remember his passport was an old when he departed hong kong from moscow so right
10:05 am
now he's he's got some form of temporary status in russia and i think it well i don't want to i don't want to prejudice the decision but if it looks it looks likely that he's going to get some form of asylum status i think once he has that then he can have a look further and see what his options are if he wants to move on from militia step by step situation for him after. being in limbo for about a month and you know being actually on a roller coaster they are not knowing what's going to happen to him at least now there is some tiny bit of light at the end of the tunnel for him sure sure yeah it's a pretty boring roller coaster for edward snowden a friend of somebody's going to be stuck in that hotel for a month we never really know or a month and a day it's not the not perhaps the best conditions you want to be in but you know we've got to we've got to see to what extent he will be able to talk to the media if you'll be able to talk to the media at all he's a whistleblower he's facing very serious crimes the united states and whether he likes it or not or whether or whether vladimir putin likes it or not he's now become a talking point in u.s.
10:06 am
russia relations obama wants no doubt and i think the grounding of edward moore i was just at the presidential plane suggest that the u.s. is going to work pretty hard to try and get the guy. all right well i never as we speak we can now talk to our correspondent piskun off who is also in the transit zone airport. i believe we can talk to you now so do bring us up to date what's happening where you are. well i'm actually not in the transit zone but in the arrivals zone off terminal. board along with several dozen other journalists many have spent the last several weeks here. looking for edward snowden and while everybody is thinking whether this could be the moment they're all been waiting for whether we could see edward snowden come out of the store stay since there was speculation that the former n.s.a. contractor. will be ready at the customs control with all the necessary documents
10:07 am
but we've just heard from one of the legal should be enough was a lawyer a member of the public chamber and basically he's basically still connection with the russian of the beast in this story he allegedly passed him the necessary documents to get this temporary permit to exit the transit zone and to russian territory while he said that this is a this is a lot of procedure in order for snowden to get the green light to do that and he just said that it may take some time to actually go through all these documents and for him to get an official green light and he said that that well basically it's unlikely that snowden is coming out of that door later today all right a jury thank you so much for this update and we just had a glimpse of some of the pictures coming out of the airport there the very latest with of course the lawyer representing edward snowden there until he could turn up as we know he has come out of the airport but i mean on and on katrina without snowden as was expected so there's still some suspense. now what we're hearing from
10:08 am
the wires here is that katrina said that edward snowden does intend to stay in russia. yeah you know this is this is certainly we don't know for how long we don't know for how long and the message has been reasonably clever and certainly helped pave the way for snowden to receive some form of welcome welcome or at least a sympathetic reception from moscow and it looks like it looks like that's taking place right now but i think given that he's snowden's been offered asylum in three latin american countries. and given that ecuador has a strong record in that respect i'm speaking obviously about julian assange that seems to be located inside the united in the united kingdom for over a year and i think it's very likely also there is no way there is no way i know. i can't get out of there well absolutely well for now let's cross to our
10:09 am
correspondent gun education for the american reaction and we're now joined by a guy now there is so dynamic what's washington's reaction been to the goings on at the airport at the moment as we are waiting for mr snowden to come out finally. well there has not been a specific statement on him. getting ready to to go out of the moscow airport of the should it made civil airport but the u.s. definitely wanted him really badly although president obama said the u.s. would not scramble jets to get snowden but we remember the incident with with the plane of the believe president the u.s. has allegedly put pressure on many countries not to accept snowden not to even let . lending their country send most of those countries did not want to spoil relations with the u.
10:10 am
was over edward snowden including russia by the way from the from the very beginning moscow made it clear that they were not happy to receive snowden they were surprised by that and that they would. rather see him leave the country as soon as possible but we would he chose to stay because all the other routes were cut our for him he even had to agree to the condition put forward by president putin that he would not harm the u.s. while in russia but at the same time prison which in made clear and that's a quote for him from him he said russia's not going to extradite eighty one so washington should not expect that because he said no one extradite anyone to us remember russian officials point to twenty extradition requests in the past ten years which the u.s. never acted upon the u.s. gave asylum to someone who is wanted in russia for terrorism and the man in question was the right hand the partner of an internationally recognized. chechen
10:11 am
militant leader who was recognized as a terrorist even by the u.s. government and the u.s. would still not sending back to russia so aside from that story or not aside from that history or you should we say don history of extraditions between the u.s. and russia you also have the legal barrier for extradition is between russia and the u.s. will aid. no treaty between the countries be russia does not exclude i to countries where someone could face the death penalty and under the charges that snowden faces he may the political and see the last reason would be. the political reasoning behind it snowden obviously is not it carries he hasn't won he is in children he one of the men sincerely believes that his government has been doing what his government has been doing is wrong and illegal and that the american public should know about it so that they're able to put pressure on politicians on legislators how can the public opposed something that he knows nothing about what also speaks to his possible status of
10:12 am
a political refugee is that fifty five percent of americans see him as a whistleblower and not a traitor and that's despite this cat and mouse style coverage in the media as snowden was seeking asylum in all these different countries it was easier to portray him as a traitor because in that context the conversation is not about snowden and his revelations anymore it's about us against them russia versus the u.s. ok thanks very much indeed we understand we will cross back to a little later for now though we'll have to go to london to our contributor of she in return well before we speak to late to get our viewers the latest on that until we get to run the war that's representing snow that has come out of the airport all by himself and he also mentioned that snowden doesn't tend to stay in russia but the question of his temporary song hasn't been resolved as to we don't know when he will be granted we don't know the date yet when he'll be granted that asylum right now he's got the papers to step out of the airport options thank you so much for joining us so let's discuss this case of further with you now yesterday we heard
10:13 am
one snowden allowed to walk free on russian soil he's planning to sell down find a job start a normal life of possible well this meeting out of snowden as a whistle blower in your opinion. so i didn't quite hear that. yeah i'll repeat one so at this point snowden's got the papers to come out of the airport right now the question of the temporary asylum is still being resolved now and of course all the legal proceedings are now being taken care of as we speak so let's now hypothesize as to what's going to happen to snowden once he comes out of the airport are we going to see the and of snowden as a whistleblower will the international repercussions of what is happening in moscow . quite great really however the kremlin drives to deny that this decision to allow mr snowden to exit the airport is nothing to do with politics and has more to do with asylum regulations and various you know departments within the
10:14 am
. within the russian government which adjudicate over asylum requests and this will not be seen this way in london it will be seen this way in brussels and it certainly will be seen this way in washington as far as these powers are concerned the decision of any migration authority in moscow to allow this man to leave will be considered. bring a fugitive who as we know president obama talks about is in danger in human life and particularly american life so i'm not sure how well they'll be treated in mosco and whether he'll be able to live some kind of normal life but certainly here in london the foreign office will no doubt be late taking a very dim view of the russian migration services decision. all right well as we speak we're just getting the wires here and like to update our viewers on what's happening well obviously some of the formalities are being resolved right
10:15 am
now as far as his temporary stay is concerned as far as again the legal documents that are necessary for him to have to step out of the airport he doesn't have that just yet there are obviously steps to go through before he gets those and this is what's happening now his lawyer on italy katrina has come out of the airport and he did confirm that snowden's tends to stay in russia now if he is granted temporary asylum in russia how safe is he going to be. it's amazing that even as old this drama has been unfolding over the past few hours president obama has. made an extraordinary announcement through his spokesperson jay colony desperately trying to put some legislation going through the house about cutting the national security u.s. national security agency budget which of course the national security agency very
10:16 am
much in the spotlight from the leaks made by edward snowden the republican senator said that he's got sort of bipartisan support this happening all the while while this drama is unfolding share much of a war. he just tweeted in the bus three minutes the never before can he remember a sitting president trying desperately to make an emergency statement against legislation that president obama fervently believes in the n.s.a. spying program we know that in the past forty eight hours we've heard the secret fisa court yet again that's statements coming out of the guardian yet again they've approved the bugging of the rise in customers and as far as we know other customers of other telephone networks in the united states president obama is not giving up on this there's no letup in this and there are people in the european parliament that take a different view and presumably will look to see some european politicians so in the european union politicians applaud the russian government for coming to the aid
10:17 am
of a whistleblower there because there is a previous on this because there are whistleblowers european commission that have been treated that well either but certainly they want to see edward snowden and keith alexander the head of the national security agency to give testimony in brussels or strasburg as to what the spiny jackley was against european politicians and officials well you know while we are still waiting for edward snowden to step out of the airport i just want to ask you one more question how public do you think he can go after he adds and that's the war given that he did promise that he will not going to make any revelations that will harm the russian u.s. relationship. well i think he will probably abide by that i certainly think and hope the obama administration abides by national sovereignty laws and doesn't use its undoubted secret agents that are walking around the streets of those goods day to dry and apprehend him i'm sure mr obama won't be doing something like that he
10:18 am
usually does that in developing nations like pakistan and afghanistan or of course uses drones to assassinate his jaw gets whereas mr snowden's case i hope he'll be protected by old sides and that u.s. diplomatic standoff do not try and talk to in any way this will of course raise quite a lot of voices in congress it is the summer season however where there will be a lot of remarks by u.s. politicians basically on the right as well as the neocon dixiecrat left in american politics complaining about the kremlin saying russia is no longer a partner there is no reset and this harboring of this fugitive shows that russia are no interested in probably lateral relationship all right off she will have to leave it there thank you so much for your input a contributor of joining us from london we can now go to shoot
10:19 am
a man who airport where we have our correspondent europe is going off well the very latest for us. we were hi there well apologies for the quality but do bring us the atmosphere though you know the mood from where you are i can see behind you there are a lot of people running somewhere. well definitely this crowd of people is actually journalists surrounding i'm not. just leaving the. building right now terminal shooting which will air force has just met with edward snowden still inside that transit zone and obviously ease of leaving the airport supremacist without the whistle blower but earlier he did say and confirm again that mr snowden is intending to spend some time in washington is hoping to get this temporary political asylum but. it is going to take some time to
10:20 am
go through all the legal procedures in order for mr snowden to receive this temporary asylum in russia but we do know that he is currently in progress and he has. including the work on the documents needed for snowden to actually exit this transit zone now and i'm pretty sure and i'm a soft as a lawyer and a member member of the public chamber basically he is just nolan's connection with the russian authorities. ok just to remind our viewers that we are getting the latest pictures from the airport where. all the media attention is focused on until he could represent was a legal advisor to edward snowden and he represents him and his lawyer we were seeing you know pictures of people running running around and a journalist trying to chase them in corpus could have brought us the very latest snowden hasn't come out of the airport just yet because there are obviously some issues there regarding the papers and the documents that he needs to get before he
10:21 am
steps before he's able to step out of the airport we haven't. and let's now discuss the very latest here the question that i have for you now is why is it so sort of i mean it's not really that straightforward so it seems on the surface it seems like there are some delays in pro. missing snowden's papers there why do you think is this happening. look at is this technical is this political i mean what's behind it in my opinion. i think would be forgiven for thinking that there's a bureaucratic procedure that has to be filled into the. bureaucracy in russia is notorious to any of the any of us who live here i think we can sympathize with snowden trying to trying to. get a piece of paper through on the other hand yeah i think there's definitely a political dimension to that that's playing out certainly in the states have been very aggressive and issued some pretty tough statements about what about snowden
10:22 am
and his fate and and should russia offer snowden asylum i think vladimir putin's stance first and foremost was that we do not want this involved or upsetting what is a reasonably reason be stable set of bilateral relations not with its competition and not without its tension but i think there's a very strong feeling coming from the russian authorities that they don't want to involve snowden some form of poland in what is a very important set of relations with washington absolutely honor well that is the latest that we have for now we are continuing to keep the fingers on the pulse as they say all the correspondents watching what's happening there at the airport and here of course in the studio either thank you for now thank you very well now here's a reminder of what's been happening here the past hour the lawyer assisting edward snowden has announced whistleblower will not be leaving the transit zone of moscow's sheremetyevo airport today because his paperwork is not ready while you said he can't name an exact date when the x.e.
10:23 am
i a man will be able to enjoy a refuge in russia until we could sure we are confirmed datz the whistleblower wants to remain and russia indefinitely while he's been stuck at sheremetyevo for more than a month ever since arriving from hong kong snowden's formal asylum request could still take up to three months to process and he'll then get asylum for a year and will be able to renew his stay annually. and we'll be bringing you more on this and other stories after a short break. nobody chooses to be holds no chills as to me and now sorrow. isidro's for the show to. get in the six pm get out six feet six. they were. nice to me the class people.
10:24 am
were against. it's tough to think about all of them comes in. and to know that many may not have only been the last to choose should never be but they're also due to foreclosures that never should have.
10:25 am
welcome back this is r.t. coming to live from moscow i'm marina joshie now let's turn to the rest of the

day's news and july is not over riyadh but it's already become the deadliest month in iraq this year the country's north has just suffered a brutal gun attack on a police h.q. followed by a roadside bomb blast today claimed the lives of at least fourteen people citizen towns all across iraq are being devastated by similar attacks and suicide bombings by insurgents on almost daily basis well but late on sunday the terrorist group took the scale of their attacks to a different level violating siege to to keep prisons and freeing up to a thousand inmates including al qaida followers more than fifty people were killed during those brazen prison assaults by adding this number to the soaring casualty figures coming from various parts of iraq since saturday we get to the shocking death toll of one hundred eighty seven in four days alone this brings us to the latest estimates which sadly show july is already seen more than seven hundred and twenty civilians die in the bloody turmoil middle east blogger karl rove says past
10:27 am
assurances that the iraqi authorities will be able to get a grip on security in the country were nothing but a myth. let's go back and look at the backdrop of them american with the road was sold on the back of there is a government now that can maintain security that it has troops that have been trained by the americans but we're seeing now is that being completely exposed i mean they cannot protect their own facilities and overseas that there's how this threat isn't an easy threat to contain but again it speaks of the weakness of the iraqi government but that weakness isn't only a security weakness really weakness there is not having a broad political consensus on the direction that iraq needs to move forward into because you can talk of security solutions in isolation from genuine political party participation and political. solution such as all the major forces in iraq al qaida link extremists are continuing to hold about two hundred kurdish civilians
10:28 am
hostage in searing clothing women and children the kurds in the area have been trying to protect their homes amid heavy fighting between jihad as forces and syrian government troops are reports. more than two hundred civilians and let me stress that we're talking here about innocent men women and children all being held hostage by extremists in northeastern syria now we understand that the hostages are being used as human shields the russian foreign ministry saying that they're mostly from kurdish families whose members are fighting extremists in the region now fighting broke out a few days ago between syrian kurds and al qaeda linked militants in the towns of our and rice are along the syrian turkish border this is exactly where our most rare and other al qaeda affiliated groups have been operating it looks as if these extremist groups are now literally control there are attempts by the kurds to form
10:29 am
some kind of interim government while the al qaeda affiliates one to form an islamic state what the fighting shows is that attempts by al qaida to secure kurdish support has failed although there are some kurdish jihadists of course there are still tensions between the kurdish groups themselves but it seems that at least for now they have found common ground against the extremists turkey of course is looking on with concern it's worried that if the kurds fight al qaida they will get support from the waist but on the other hand the kurds in cells are not keen on the syrian national council either and they have refused to join in the turkish backed syrian opposition that has not given them any assurances of promises as to a division of syria to president bashar assad now meanwhile washington's it is congressional hurtles to arming the rebels moscow has reiterated weapons deliveries would go against previous agreements and the future of peace.
