did in other communities. al qaeda linked rebels in syria besiege an ancient christian village the latest in a wave of attacks on religious minorities that point a surge of extremism within the opposition forces. that civil war has divided world leaders at the g twenty summit now in its second day in saying that his work with debates raging over u.s. plans to launch air strikes against syria without a u.n. mandate. and a fresh insight into america's confidential folder shows nothing can stop the government snooping agency from getting its hands on your personal data it's in the blueprints of modern internet.
8:01 am
this is r.t. coming to you live from moscow marina joshie welcome to the program. now we start in syria where government forces are battling al qaeda linked rebels who attacked a christian village earlier this week is home to some of the world's oldest christian sanctuaries and is one of the few places where western is the language of christ is still spoken rebels have now been forced out but fierce clashes are continuing in the area our correspondent in damascus reports tried to get to my little village shortly after we heard that the clashes erupted there and it's just one hour drive from damascus north of the capital but we were stopped by the army and warned that it could be a one way ticket because first of all the road from damascus to milo is not safe
8:02 am
but even if we're lucky enough to get. to the village the clashes still continue there and there are still some snipers who are active on the ground so the situation is very dangerous so it's better not to go that as we were told we're hearing that the fighting is between the army and. a mostly from. affiliated groups fighting here in syria. against the regime of bashar assad but mostly for the radical islamic state and we can see that the tactics were also. very similar to those that terrorists all around the world use we know that. early on wednesday. suicide bomber struck a checkpoint at the entrance of my little village and after a car exploded the checkpoint the middletons of the storm and we have online the do
8:03 am
and i hope you can see it right now showing rebels. residents have been telling media that the same day the militants managed to take over a mountain. saffir hotel and they've been firing from that strategic point what we know is that model village is a very special place not only speaking. in terms of syrian reality but internationally speak and it is home to and also talks trying for century correct catholic church and dozens of more scs where residents local residents in the shops and during their daily lives they speak aramaic the language that just cries believed to speak so course the whole christian community not only here in syria but all over the world was shaken and our t. managed to speak to one another on from latar care about the situation and about
8:04 am
the fears of the christian minority here in syria if i would have any idea how can the international community ignore the brutal killing spree in the early on august the fifth and the target affected five hundred people including children and women and all the people in the villages travel that they massacred all the residents and burned down the houses twelve alawite villages were subjected to this horrendous attack it was a true slaughter house people who were mutilated and beheaded there is even a video that shows a girl being dismembered alive with the sioux. well it's worth to mention that malula has very troubled neighbors another village of brood center of smuggling here in syria just twenty minutes drive from my little homes the city known as the percent of the question is one hundred kilometers away from this village was the only one not taken not. touched by the rebels. now
8:05 am
meanwhile the obama administration is considering a scheme to train syrian rebels a move that would significantly expand current cia coaching programs already underway in neighboring jordan as alongside its plans to attack syrian targets with or without the backing of the u.n. americans and voice of the united nations singled out russia for criticism for its outspoken opposition to strikes take a listen there is no viable path forward in the security council the system has protected the prerogatives of russia russia continues to hold the council hostage and shirk its international responsibilities including as a party to the chemical weapons convention now that as the un chief himself ruled out a military solution to the syrian crisis warning that a strike would have tragic consequences and fuel sectarian violence in the region investigative journalist charlie mcgrath has commented on the u.s. envoy statement saying international trust in washington's words has all but eroded
8:06 am
it's extremely harsh i mean you know they're the heart of the u.n. talking about russia holding the security council hostage i mean making russia the bad guy because they're the you know putin is one of the only people in the international community who has the you know i want to say courage to stand up and ask super commonsense questions who benefits from this and let's not rush to launch one point five million dollar tomahawk cruise missiles because we have a five page report that is in large part made up of you tube clips and twitter feed i think the world is war weary and they're no longer trusting the message or the messengers so it's not a surprise to me to be in and ask me stepping away from our guaranteed claim that assad was responsible for this gas attack if that's indeed what it was al bring you more on aware of the international community stance on the syria issue in our special live coverage of the g. twenty summit in st petersburg coming up on r.t.
8:07 am
in just a few minutes. in a rallying support for a potential strike on syria the u.s. is trying to ally doubts that the syrian regime was responsible for the august chemical attack near damascus. going off looks at whether there is actually enough evidence to back that claim the intelligence services of the u.s. france and britain have all presented reports suggesting it was the syrian authorities who used chemical weapons on august twenty first so let's look at their arguments open source reports are presented among the key evidence by all three services instead of being tucked safely in their beds at home we saw rows of children lying side by side sprawled on a hospital floor open sources are actually videos on you tube and social networks this brings us to the second arguments presented once again unilaterally its
8:08 am
knowledge of previous chemical attacks allegedly conducted by the assad regime un experts however still haven't been able to agree on whether or not chemical weapons were deployed during the conflict in syria and why which side now argument number three washington paris and london claim intensified fire in the area of the alleged attack is another sign the authorities were behind it this way they allegedly tried destroying the evidence now finally the fourth key argument presented by all three is that the rebels are simply incapable of using chemical weapons there is no credible intelligence or other evidence to substantiate the claims all the position of chemical weapons political position. earlier the un said it had evidence suggesting otherwise so it's pretty clear the arguments are completely of the same but interestingly the reaction is the cause of these countries are not the governments amendment does not mention compelling evidence against president assad
8:09 am
i will seek authorization for the use of force from the american people's representatives in congress sure i'm waiting for an answer from cannot act on its own so as washington waits for congress paris for washington and london has dropped out altogether u.s. senators are set to make a decision on the issue next week now as the congress vote on syria intervention draws closer pollsters are keeping tabs on a which way which way the wind is blowing so far it looks to be going against obama according to data polled by i think progress and nearer forty three lawmakers say they will or are at least likely to vote in favor of attacking us and a staggering two hundred twelve though say they will vote no or leaning towards rejecting obama's war plan furthermore the president has apparently ordered congress to expand the list of potential targets in syria and possibly use aircraft for the operation now obama is also struggling to gather
8:10 am
international support for strikes against syria the issue has divided world leaders at the g. twenty summit now in its second day in st petersburg and we're bringing you full coverage on those talks and russia's nor isn't capitol. now the syria issue has come to dominate talks between the world's twenty largest economies and day one of the summit around half leaders made it clear they did not support america's intervention plants washington cuse damascus of using chemical weapons in august but the evidence offered so far has left manny unconvinced our business now he joins me now live from st petersburg with all the details how do you any of this so do tell us how we're having those discussions and syria playing out so far. well president of the european commission barroso has called the syrian civil war the worst humanitarian crisis in modern history that gives you
8:11 am
an idea of the severity of the situation and really how it has taken over this g twenty summit in st petersburg leaders worked well into the wee hours of the night at a working dinner where the topic on the table literally was syria we're hearing from various sources that leaders are split pretty clearly those of course opposed to military intervention in those really pushing for military intervention as soon as possible without any backing from the u.n. security council according to david cameron. he feels very unlikely sort of skeptic very skeptically looks at the situation and trying to convince host putin that the evidence they have is enough to really support that the chemical attack was in fact launched by the also regime. leaders say that like i said well into the early morning of this final day of the g. twenty summit you could see it on their faces obviously sleep deprived some leaders
8:12 am
not going to name names were late even to the first working session so this debate is actively going on but it looks like the g twenty summit is not going to be the place where this is resolved either the u.s. is going to go ahead without the support. many of its allies and colleagues here at the g. twenty many people saying and and afraid really that they're going to go ahead unilaterally unilaterally with this with this intervention as soon as they get the go ahead or not perhaps from congress next week while i did like you said with syria taking center stage there's a lot of debate and the politicians are talking a lot about it but can you tell us a bit more about who is foreign intervention and who is against at this point. in terms of the countries it's almost easier to name first the countries that are really actively pushing for it obviously the united states president obama coming
8:13 am
here hoping to gain more support it looks like that's not going to be the case but the only two countries that are very kind of straight line for military intervention as of today are the u.s. and france were expecting francois long to speak we know that he met along the sidelines with president obama in a bilateral meeting and you can see in some of the pictures that we're seeing with the leaders you know a few leaders here and they're off to the side with obama it's all smiles and handshakes but really it's expected that what is happening there is that he's trying to gain more support adamantly against intervention his hosts russia and then some other representatives here of course the u.n. we heard from bonn ki-moon he is very clearly against military intervention and we also know that rove russia's foreign minister has met with the u.n. for syria and they've come out of that meeting with one love rove saying that there's still a chance for a political solution but any kind of military intervention will kill that there will be no option almost to come back to some kind of negotiating table or
8:14 am
diplomacy once some kind of military campaign is long and then the u.n. rep saying that the geneva two convention will there's still a chance to go to that diplomatic table but any kind of action without the backing of the u.n. security council who. basically put a coffin in any kind of those diplomatic pushes that have been going on for years for over two years now to try to bring some kind of solution to this conflict but it's looking now even before many of the leaders speak in their final conference is that they're going to be without any kind of solution on what to do in syria and pretty much split down the middle on whether or not it should be a military intervention or a diplomatic political solution running down while we are still waiting for some statements to come out and certainly is interesting at this point to watch the body language of the set of the politicians there thanks very much indeed for bringing us this update on the snowy live from st petersburg where g twenty second place but it's not only politics and diplomacy being talked at the summit the converse

digital data you possess using their multibillion dollar budgets they managed to create an army of eavesdropping supercomputers while lobbying their way to weaken some of the major brands software laura smith has the details it seems that they're capable of doing practically anything essentially and all of the stuff that you do online the emails that you send is the banking data that you insert when you transfer money a shock paying all those passwords that you've created to protect yourself online even your medical records it turns out that the guarantees that you've been given by the internet companies that all that stuff is protected already did practically by this i mean they've got these super computers which basically use brute force to break codes and then here's the kicker it turns out that that collaborating with the internet service providers themselves secretly. also inserting back doors into commercial encrypts in software so again in on the ground floor and it turns
8:18 am
out has made significant inroads into breaking into hotmail google yahoo and also facebook where they don't work or don't stretch to of course there are always things these direct taps that they've got on what's called the backbone of the internet these cables that run under the sea transatlantic that carry all the internet traffic and then of course intercepting satellite communications so essentially the message is from these leaks that if the n.s.a. wants to get into your computer it can but there are some things that security experts say can make it more difficult for them to do that and ultimately that's what you're aiming to do really so first of all you can use this redirecting software enables online anonymity but you can also encrypt your communications again not fail safe not foolproof but it will protect you slightly better another thing that security experts in the guardian are suggesting today is to have a computer that has never been connected to the internet also as we've learned
8:19 am
don't control don't trust commercial encrypted software because that's likely had a backdoor inserted into his already by the n.s.a. or g c h q this is here's the experts in the guardian sums it up by saying look you know the n.s.a. . amazingly efficient at doing this it seems but ultimately they're not magicians they can't do everything and they're constrained by the same financial and economic constraints that all the rest of us are so basically all you can do is make it as difficult for them as possible and just cross your fingers now chris kid who established an encrypted secure server says there is no limit what unscrupulous people could do was a data. it's not only industrial espionage you think about the value of you know how many people have access to this huge treasure trove of data there one point four million people in the u.s. who have top secret clearances are all those people angels i don't think so so you
8:20 am
have the issue of who has access to this data and mr snowden was able to get quite a bit of it so you know he's obviously he's not alone there are at least thousands there are probably tens of thousands of other people who do it is what's valuable for for political blackmail it's hugely valuable if you had all these private conversations from a political opponent think what you can do it when every election this is basically something that's completely worldwide and you know you should assume that it's anywhere if you're anywhere in the world and you're using something electronic that someone is listening. and over at r.t. dot com workers at the world's largest retailer are lashing out u.s. supermarket giant wal-mart is the planet's biggest private employer but staff say we need a decent minimum wage somewhere arrested and rally is that we've got their story online. russia will host a wonderful olympics the words of the i.o.c. president who's given the sorts of reparations he's wholehearted singh of approval

on our website how excitement over the winter games is heating up. thousands of deaths on the european roads each year are forcing lawmakers to take action but one idea being touted has angered motorist more than others as brussels wants to install an automatic brake in every vehicle against exceeding the speed limit boyko explains. got a need for speed the fancy yourself is a bit of a petrol head perhaps well lawmakers in brussels are thinking of ways to slow you down the european union wants to improve its road safety record and they're coming up with innovative new ways to do it the latest proposal fitting all cars with a technology that would read a road speed limits and automatically slam on the brakes if you go over it so in the u.k. that would mean a limit of seventy miles per hour no matter how big your engine is so we decided to find out what some of the members of london's for ari owners club think about the

idea of the fun out of drawing wouldn't a car isn't that you've got this one at the moment but i've got various other classics and it would just take the fun of the whole scenario thing it's something disappointing for everyone if somebody saw for me but it's not going to vince on congo so many different cars so if some of them are applying. the new technology i'll be ok but on this special car to control you know i think you some people should because if they if they realize that they're being. the forget to draw if they'll forget to be aware so poor drivers will just simply cause more actions even though they're going this quickly so if people are so worried about people not being able to make the right judgment then we need better education not draconian rules where one size fits all. exempt to that law. and you can't do that i'm not supposed to have an outspoken car. the proposal hasn't gone down well with the case transport secretary i that he says that forcing cars to break or so

much that he has got big brother written all over it and that britain is already ranks amongst the top in europe for its road safety record. what's more what's amazing to experts say that sometimes the driver needs to be able to speed up we want to avoid collisions and tricky situations. playboy k. hot seat london. back to our top story now as our teams continues its coverage of the g twenty summit in st petersburg. and with the threat of an attack on syria already troubling to markets the world's business community is responding well to america's decision to and its stimulus program in fact the brics group of emerging economies are gathering speed and setting up a global bank of their own intended to act as

a buffer to western crises kenya film from marty's venture capital program reports from see that his work on what the g twenty has for the financial world. we have had the twenty meeting and that includes the biggest business people the business elite if you like the heavyweights i'm talking about heads of the biggest global banks companies c.e.o.'s of the big blue chips and they come together and they said they want some answers how we're going to get this job creation how we're going to deal with the unemployment two hundred million people still unemployed over seventy of those all use and there's been talk about the last generation and really no wall short term fixes it's all about long term solutions to the problems that we have at the moment we know that tax evasion has featured heavily and it's a topic that everyone pretty much agrees on and putin said that it's just the beginning and that small to be done but so far there's cooperation between the

twenty eight leaders which makes up ninety percent of the global g.d.p. so in terms of tax evasion then we know that there's going to be more monitoring of the multi companies i'm talking about twenty eight of the so-called too big to fail banks and they're going to be monitored for their shadow banking and there's in cars move from countries that do offer low tax rates to now increase tax evasion issue as i say it's just the beginning but there have been some agreements to say the least you mentioned the development bank i wanted to say that this is been a big breakthrough before coming here we didn't know how much money each country was going to be contributing to this and that had caused some disagreements because each of the bric countries i'm talking about brazil russia india china south africa are different sizes so china is the biggest economy forty one billion dollars we're going to have russia india brazil with eighteen billion dollars to the fund and

south africa with five we still don't know where it's going to be located or who is going to be in charge of the bank and the logistics are still to be decided on what we know that it is going to. but in the us because this hope i spend a sense of urgency this time around we know that the emerging economies all suffering and us in the light of the volatility are not just that economies but also that current is as well up so as i say we've got tax evasion we've got the emerging economies as well and as we do at the moment trying to get away from all to fish old growth is about long term. so that we can really do with the unemployment rates which are really quite saucing particularly in the eurozone so the happen some revelations and business is being done hand i can tell you from the business head they are quite pleased that us steps are being made but as a size a two day summit is so. busy people right ahead.

afghanistan the balkans somalia haiti libya yemen and so on and so on the list of engagements and airstrikes by post cold war nato just keeps getting longer and now it looks like it's serious turn a lot of people have written me asking me to predict what is going to happen next which for me is impossible i am not good at predicting the future but i can see is that we are living in a very tense moment in history many argue that the us economy with its unfathomable debt is really propped up by war in the petro dollars so if the us backs down here would could be the beginning of the end for the world's only hyper power but if they do attack syria there will probably be some sort of reaction from iran russia and china if you haven't noticed nato has been trying to encircled these nations and in russian internet conspiracy land a lot of people are saying that russia is next you see if there is no resistance in syria then one by one all resistance to the un ending hunger of need.
