r.t. with international news and comment the hague based chemical weapons watchdog has received data on syria's toxic now this comes as part of the country's chemical demilitarization plan hammered out by top russian and u.s. diplomats last week poor scott has the details. well under the deal a brokered between washington and moscow in geneva last weekend to syria has until saturday to disclose its arsenal of chemical weapons and the process has begun the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons or o.p.c. w for short a spokesman for that organization says we have received part of the verification and we expect more that's what the spokesperson was quoted as saying it's believed that the initial declaration outlining syria's chemical weapons program has been handed over however when contacted. p.c. wu did confirm that a meeting on syria that was settled for sunday has been postponed no reason was

given and no future date has been set now it's believed that syria has one thousand tons worth of chemical weapons dotted around the country making it logistically difficult for this process to be carried out president bashar al assad was quoted in it made to wake saying that the process could take over a year just about over a year of course under that deal struck in geneva syria has until the middle of two thousand and fourteen to complete the process of the united nations are set to discuss a possible u.n. resolution in new york next week on the syrian crisis that will give a legal backing to the deal struck in geneva however the two sides have slightly different views on the wording of that possible resolution with the united states britain and france king for the threat of military intervention to be on the table to remain on the table if damascus fails to comply with the u.n. resolution russia saying that any threat of military intervention is

counterproductive and not needed in the initial resolution russia says that only if damascus fails to comply should the then be taken back to the united nations while those discussions are due to take place in new york next week but the early signs are that damascus is keen to comply with that deal struck in geneva last weekend. but his pool scott reporting there the face of the syrian war is changing and it's no longer a simple power struggle between the army and the opposition are caught in it groups which by some estimates make up to fifty percent of the ascent forces have turned against their more moderate rebel lies to talk more on this and other issues surrounding syria i'm joined live by gregory copley he's president told the international strategic studies association gregory how would you describe the situation in syria a conventional civil war you know and fact i think we've got an artificial civil

war and it has been so over the past couple of years when we had saudi arabia qatar and turkey backed by the united states putting in essentially foreign elements to trigger what was believed a civil war and they've caused massive chaos there the there was not a civil war there to begin with certainly there was discontent with but shallow sides government by many elements of the population but largely this was not a civil war which was naturally occurring and if you remove the foreign elements of the foreign funding there wouldn't be a civil war there today so what we're seeing now with this real brouhaha about the chemical attack which we can talk about separately but what we're seeing with this latest. build up is a last ditch attempt to preserve the opposition elements against bashar al assad largely to support the overthrow of a pro iranian puppet if you want to one of a bit of work but in effect are we seeing a war within the war developing now for example is i know this now just been

a true spoke earlier this week we saw al qaeda fighters pushing moderate rebels out of a village that they're taken control of is that indicative of what is happening now in effect another front opening up. well yes indeed in fact these these forces have always been fractious they've always also been responsive to very different masters of the turkish view the qatari view and the saudi view of what should be prized a sunni government in syria and post assad syria and all being diametrically opposed. they all wanted a different outcome the turks wanted to expand their pan ottoman view of things the saudis wanted to impose their view to the rich so that they could reach the mediterranean but qatar is one of the you. syria which could carry their pipelines let me quickly ask you about the extremists adamant though we spoke to a free syrian army spokesman about this and this is what he had to say the

understood is that the syrian regime has recruited extremists to discredit the revolution and explain to the west that there's no revolution we are fighting radical groups syrian government recruiting mercenaries you had to say is there an element of truth in that you think. well i don't think i think the syrian government's got enough on its hands right now particularly when we see the qataris the saudis and the turks each sponsoring pretty radical groups. and having very little effective control on the outcomes they have poured money into really. al-qaeda or pro al-qaeda or the sunni jihadist and salafi groups all along basically with the intent of destroying bashar regardless of the outcome and that's the problem the iranian response to that of course is to mobilize its own fairly hefty forces hizbollah in the area but iran will and is responding to this by

there really is the chance for a diplomatic deal on the nuclear program and there are indeed signs of cooperation from iran just how far do you think it would go to in effect make peace with washington. well president rouhani said in an interview the other night that he would never make a nuclear weapon now that is certainly going to be something that american policy makers once a test that's the president's goal he has consistently said no nuclear weapon the question then is between no nuclear program and no nuclear weapon what is permissible what could the international community live with where it could be certain that iran would not make a nuclear weapon and with that verification then begin to relax some of the pressure but there are many different issues at stake here syria the region is in turmoil and so the bigger issues that the u.s. and iran have to deal with will be very complicated in the days ahead the nuclear

program may actually be the most tangible one for the negotiations and set in that context with the instability in the middle east just how important all of these developments in relations between iran and the u.s. a positive effect couldn't come at a better time perhaps for the middle east or all we being too optimistic that. well they are significant it's essential that the united states the international community is talking about these hard issues with its adversaries and allies alike the deal recently between the united states and russia on syria's chemical weapons has demonstrated that diplomacy can work now it's a question of will it be followed through by assad the same can be said for ron if we can see these issues resolved diplomatically it's going to create a sense of stability in what has been a very unstable region and that certainly is in the interest of the people who live there as well as the united states and russia briefly let's throw in the israeli
