1:02 pm
a bit and now again russia seems to be facing some sort of alamo city especially head of the un general assembly which is to take place in new york next week so the russian foreign minister in an interview to russia's channel one has used the points that he's made before but in a very different or rather harsh manner especially when talking about the way that the west is approaching the syrian crisis. in our american partners are starting to blackmail us if russia does not agree to egypt the seven resolution in the u.n. to see stop working with the chemical watchdog in the hague is completely counter to what we agreed on which john kerry namely the chemical which does decision and then are supporting resolution from the u.n. a c. but without a chapter seven. the russian foreign minister said that the team of u.n. experts who were in syria last month investigating reports of alleged chemical attacks actually couldn't complete their job in its entirety caving into the

pressure from the likes of the united states who seem to be determined to push their agenda in only one direction. which our partners a blind eye and ideological goals to remove the assad regime they want to show the big can call the shots in the middle east. they are mostly concerned with proving their own supremacy and not the task that we are driven by which to solve the syrian chemical weapons problem. on top of that russian foreign minister has said that there is a high chance to the syrian rebels themselves could produce chemical weapons and homegrown laboratories has also said that those who have essentially created the syrian are continuing to cover its tracks all not hold our mr lavrov has said that it does not seem like the western powers are interested in pursuing the diplomatic solution off the matter right now. well some partners are trying to forcefully push forward it was the syrian resolution. because they understand that if chapter seven is mentioned during the show as
1:04 pm
a chance for them to get approval of the un security council unilateral action which to encourage them to keep calm and stop coming up there's a. convention for the prohibition of chemical weapons on the back burner and ties us girls according to the russian foreign minister of france and the united states and they didn't really need the report from the u.n. inspection team their minds were set up long before that and they have only used that report as yet another attempt to insist that in fact it was just the syrian government that was using chemical weapons in syria even though there is absolutely no such indication in the u.n. report as my colleague now reports. as chaos and violence continue in syria so does the diplomatic battle surrounding the conflict this week a u.n. investigation concluded chemical weapons were used on august twenty first environmental chemical medical therapies that the u.n. investigators collected provide clear and compelling evidence that the surface to
1:05 pm
surface rockets used in this attack contained the nerve agent sarin we know. possesses. and there is not a shred of evidence however that the opposition does. this isn't complicated when we said we know what is true we meant it but the u.n. report doesn't blame the acid regime for the attack or mention other chemical weapons attacks allegedly carried out this summer russia claims there is still no evidence the syrian government is guilty and rather many suggestions the attack was a clever attempt by rebels to push for foreign intervention we have every reason to think that it was a provocation to the small provocation of course but the technique was very simple they use an old soviet missile which are no longer in service with the syrian army
1:06 pm
the key thing is that the missile carried the label made in the u.s.s.r. russia says the u.n. report was rushed and ignores relevant evidence of other chemical attacks in syria the deputy foreign minister called in damascus this week confirmed un inspectors were informed of this material which was killed by syria and the story was he's handed over to. the head of u.n. mission here mission of experts which came and investigated the incident but never did so on the three subsequent incidence and then sell straw was asked to look into the and eventually factor this new evidence into the final report of self from his mission you can never happened in fact still the u.s. is pushing for a response based on this u.n.
1:07 pm
investigation just last week the u.s. and russia agreed to a six point plan to rid syria of its chemical weapons to mask its pledge to move forward and has so far complied a chemical weapons ploy if you like by the west and by the by the jihadist was. was countered effectively. i rushed her in damascus saying ok you want to chemical weapons you've got the chemical weapons it's interesting to note that the free syrian army disavowed that agreement and will not. and the little in the other forces will not give up their chemical weapons in this whole dispute and and john kerry the u.s. state is not even pushing on that instead he is pushing on the u.n. security council to sign a strong resolution possibly even mandating force what recently seems like a small victory for diplomacy in the syria crisis a new road is slowly going back to old ways as washington continues to threaten
1:08 pm
force and moscow push for compromise the battle continues and he said now r.t. washington we spoke to historian and middle east expert mark a woman then he believes moscow has very strong grounds to brush away all attempts to inject chapter seven into a potential resolution on syria. remember of libya in march of two thousand and eleven the resolution was presented as a humanitarian resolution to prevent the libyan army gadhafi forces entering the city of benghazi but it was used to justify a small the six months of bombing until gadhafi was overthrown and in july the british prime minister the one so that over syria we don't want a resolution like the one on libya that would have labeled us to engage in regime change he was trying to reassure russia and china but precisely because back in march of two thousand and eleven david cameron obama president sarkozy said this was just a humanitarian resolution to do would be immediate crisis in vanguard undoubtedly
1:09 pm
not just russia and china but other countries like india brazil south africa are very suspicious that a resolution which authorized force over chemical weapons could be used to justify a broader range campaign to remove the regime and install a different government protest although i have to say i think if we look at what happened in libya the chaos that followed i would be very reluctant to predict that even if the west was able to pursue a military option in syria that it would produce a regime that most people in the west would feel comfortable with. also a mortar shell has hit the compound of the russian embassy in damascus after the rebels carried out a strike on the capital at least three people have been injured you can find out more about that right now at our dot com. voting has now ended in the german parliamentary election and the first exit polls are being released these early indications point to a very successful showing by angela merkel's christian democrat party but the former coalition partners the free democrats have less than the five percent they
1:10 pm
need to get back into parliament and into power well we can go live now to our tease peter oliver who's with us now in but peter so if these exit polls are to be believed it looks like a bit of a change is on the horizon there for germany. well it does what it seems is that i'm glad merkel isn't going to be able to keep together her current center right coalition her own party have done marvelously well as from exit polls and preliminary results it seems that they've taken around forty two percent of the popular vote now that's the most that her party's taken since one thousand nine hundred ninety and mrs merkel has been speaking to the crowds at her party headquarters saying it was a simple result and and thanks all round her main challenges with the social democrats now they have had a picture of a north korea lee they've taken just around twenty six percent of the vote out than expected i think by their supporters they were going to do better than not so
1:11 pm
really the jacketed faces we've seen the headquarters now i'm glad merkel's current coalition partners it seems certainly aren't going to be coalition partners in the next parliament because that doesn't look like they even going to be there you need five percent to get into the german part of the german parliament and the three democrats the s.p.d. they've got only around four point one percent polls have to be believed now to some key people in anglo merkel's current cabinet that are in the looting that the justice minister and the foreign minister sort of certainly going to be some new positions in the next cabinet now the rest of the people involved in this rest of the parties involved in the green party with around eight point three percent i think of on the left party was around eight point two percent and the green party with around eight point one percent the euro skeptic new boys that have come into this general election where the alternative for germany they at the moment it seems are just missing out on the five percent crucial. watershed to get over to get into the parliament most polls putting them at around four point nine percent but all
1:12 pm
that can change is the all the votes are counted up and the results trickle into us throughout the rest of the evening yes the rest of the evening how many more hours we've got to go before we really do have those concrete official results. well in the past we have seen them some t.v. stations here in germany calling who'd won it as soon as well now bush that's not going to happen this time it's going to take a few hours to try again adds up exactly who is come out on top i would say and you know the three or four hours before we get a really solid picture actually in around two hours time or an hour of just under an hour's time we're going to see all of the main leaders taking part in a joint press conference now occasionally this has been the time where by everybody would concede and as it stands at the moment of the exit polls to be believed angela merkel would be announced as the clear winner with her christian democratic c.s.u. and their c.s.u.
1:13 pm
it's very important is coming out taking a huge lion share of the popular vote the next thing that comes though is deciding both coalitions it could be this angela merkel will have to go to the green party to to join to form a coalition or the grand coalition as it's known between the the the christian democrats and the social democrats it doesn't seem though that social democrat supporters are particularly keen on that one the only way it seems that angela merkel won't be returned for a third term as chancellor is if the so-called red red green coalition comes about that's the coalition of the social democrats the left party and the green party but not many people in germany hold out much hope for that one as it stands at the moment peter thanks very much indeed at one of our live there in berlin well look for more analysis on these early results all of this of course is based on the exit polls so far let's go to dr max or he's a professor and author and joins me live from berlin as well do you think angle
1:14 pm
america is going to be entirely happy with these results of course she's got the most votes but it looks very likely now she doesn't have her coalition partner the one she wanted to have. good evening i'm actually joining you from cologne but yes some are clips of triumph and she was smiling very broadly but of course it's also difficult if the if she has absolute majority she cannot hide she cannot play the coalition game which she masterfully does basically the box then really stops with her and she really has to come out so. as great as this result is for the c.d.u. it might not be. desired result so who is she going to team up with the social democrats. i think as it looks now she has the absolute majority of seats in the parliament so it's really a c.d.u. c.s.u. government so if the f.t. doesn't get in one of which there's still a slight possibility then she can govern by herself or by the city you can govern
1:15 pm
and form a government but if the f.t. comes in or if if the percentage has changed slightly of course then she has to look for coalition partners and i would think even though the s.p.d. excluded that in the complains that a great coalition or grand coalition is the most likely outcome in in that case of course this is a significant election for germany but also highly significant for europe what would him particularly those struggling eurozone countries want to see happen there . yes i mean in some ways it's a reinforcement of merkel's policy i mean she has yielded a lot she has yielded german sovereignty she has sold parts of the country to european pressure it's all about who decides what in europe i mean is a bilateral deals source the majority in which cyprus has the same voters germany going to decide in german fiscal policy and she has given away quite a bit of german national sovereignty but she's also started to rein in things and
1:16 pm
had to play the game a bit more masterfully and so it's interesting situation to see how this comes out of course it's not really the preferred outcome for southern european countries that has now happened and what about the impact on the german people themselves what does it say about merkel as a leader heading now for her third term particularly leader during this very turbulent time for europe merkel herself is quite popular actually or accepted or respected or whatever so she has actually quite a high approval rating but in some ways the c.d.u. has taken on the liberal agenda it's taken on the social democratic agenda to become green so in a way that party has sucked up all those agendas and throw in some ways it's not surprising that comes out that strong but what it hasn't done is really represent the more let's say conservative parts and that's the reason the f.t. is really having had a surprise success in the f.t.
1:17 pm
in the polls was manipulated way down to some extended three four percent of the polls and now it's close to five so the polls might have contributed to the fact of the f.t. not being in parliament because many people might have thought that casting their vote for the f.t. would be a last vote so we'll see how that plays out dr maxalt and professor and author in cologne thank you very much indeed for joining us and sharing your thoughts on an interesting night for germany thank you. it's not just the germans rooting for their favorite leader but europeans too from policy to merkel's unbending conviction and austerity report on just how much is at stake for europe's weakest point we touched on in that live interview we'll be talking more about that a short break. with. science technology innovation all the list of elements from around russia.
1:18 pm
1:19 pm
news continues here in r.t. it may be a german vote but europe is watching the count with just as much interest in apprehension not only is germany the powerhouse of europe's economy but it's also the behind the bailouts keeping struggling euro nations afloat and none is more dependent on favre than greece reports from athens. when it comes to finances decisions made in germany are often felt right here in greece and out there is maybe the birthplace of democracy ballots cast by german voters have a huge role to play in this country's future that despite two bailouts and across the board spending cuts is still struggling through one of its worst recession since the second world war unemployment just soaring and two thirds of young greeks are without work and despite to apac just west of two hundred forty billion euros
1:20 pm
revenues are still short of expectations what's more the growing consensus is that greece is unlikely to get back on its feet without more help so little third term for chancellor angela merkel nina more austerity as well starship for greece and how do people here actually feel about a potential change in leadership in europe's largest creditor nation we decided to hit the streets of athens to find out take a look. tell you. this if you. do get in there. if you love your policies hurt the greeks as well as the germans but regardless of who wins the result will be bad for us because our politicians are weak let me just repeat what i was just not intervene so much in my country that it feels like greece is controlled by foreign politicians germany in general that's a good. conduit. i don't believe but also greeks see.
1:21 pm
this do so as you just heard a mix of views there all those are. he contributed to two bailout loans to greece michael's austerity policies are widely blamed first huge spending cuts and whichever way germans and up voting it certainly is likely to be felt right here in greece reporting from athens from r.t. and this is tough enough. a general strike in greece turned ugly this week when a prominent fascist was stabbed to death the killer was apprehended at the scene and reportedly found to be a member of the far right golden dawn party the killing set off a chain of roads around greece with running battles between police and protesters officials quickly jumped on the bandwagon hinting that they may shut the party down as police raided its offices golden dawn is well known for terrorizing immigrants and attacking its political opponents george country girl of suppressor of constitutional more believes the rights of extremist sentiment in greece is directly linked to the state of the economy. and the majority of the. commercials that unfortunately the idea that this fear is free to mosul is of the

united states the nation's. drew their ambassadors in two thousand and ten keeping diplomatic relations to the bare minimum recent revelations of u.s. spying on that in america only alienated the self even more gregory we'll put co-founder of venezuela analysis dot com believes this incident was a veiled show of force by the united states. i think it's basically just a show of force of muscle and this comes at a time when the united states is increasingly isolated. this is really one of the few resources that has to show. its power internationally to my fact if we look just last week brazil's president. canceled a trip to the united states that was a long time ago over the whole spying scandal that the u.s. was involved in in brazil and other shows that more and more countries are resisting the exercise of u.s. power around the globe and in other words the united states is becoming increasingly isolated. so this is another star actually that is the model of the
1:24 pm
air space is another step further is the u.s. isolation internationally i think because other countries who are rejecting will are in solidarity with them as well but there's no end in sight to the violence in iraq with sixteen killings reported there today the deaths come just a day after more than one hundred civilians were killed in a ferocious wave of bloodshed the overwhelming majority of the victims died in a string of blast which rocked shiite neighborhoods more than five and a half thousand people have been killed in iraq this year alone journalists said big who's been extensively writing on the matters of the region believes iraq won't see peace for a very long time i think if you look at this year so far it's been that good just year since two thousand and eight and this started in april when the lead government broke antigovernment protests and just as kind and get some of the sudanese in the country and giving. fuel to the fire for the al qaeda militants so we've seen an increase in sectarian attacks taking place and i don't see. an end in
1:25 pm
sight the u.s. really messed up stuff in in iraq they had no plan foreign intervention hasn't worked it's given a fuel truck load of militants i don't think. has any seen what's. the damage that they've done you know that they had ten years and i think that what we're seeing now is internal security issues this. iran's new president hassan rouhani seems to be persistently knocking on the u.s. door urging washington to break more than three decades of diplomatic silence between the countries the white house is still sending mixed signals whether it will answer in kind it has recently hinted there is a possibility for a change of heart or let's take a look at how to run is trying to win over the sympathies of the u.s. president drew global attention when he iran will never seek a nuclear weapon saying the strictly civil atomic program is a subject of national pride he also reached out to the white house for an article
1:26 pm
in the washington post calling to leave frosty relations in the past and focus on warming them up sticking to the election pledges of a moderate approach he also released around a dozen political prisoners including prominent human rights activists and finally he exchanged correspondence with president obama later describing it as positive and constructive well professor sayed marandi from the university of tehran iran wants the u.s. to stop threatening language. what the iranians are doing right now is they're saying look we are going to preserve our sovereign rights as an independent country we will continue with our peaceful nuclear program we've never this regarded international law there is no evidence of that but we are willing to be creating a new favorable environment for negotiations so far the united states has responded negatively as soon as mr rouhani became president they slap new sanctions now they're taking a building that's linked to the iranian community in the united states. these are
1:27 pm
not positive signs but still the iranians are waiting to see over the next few days and few weeks if the united states is going to rethink its previous irrational approach towards iran. the news continues in just over half an hour from now in the meantime we continue with our special report that looks at the victims of friendly fire in the u.s. army that's after the break. i got some angry but polite messages after i came out in favor of the foreign adoption ban of russian children by people in the usa this is not a dig on america i think russia or any country that respects itself should export
1:28 pm
any children to anywhere at all people tell me that i'm paranoid that the decision to stop the foreign adoptions punishes the children while a massive reuters investigation called the child exchange has exposed some dark secrets about adoption of foreign children they expose it often by using the term re homing which is normally about finding new homes for animals people are basically advertising adopted children they don't want like baseball cards on e bay we're just found out that on just one yahoo group are child a week was offered up to the public my wonder what kind of people want to discreetly get children off the internet the thing is that in the us adopting a child from overseas is hard but transferring them to someone else later on is a breeze all you need is a notarized power of attorney document to clearing the child is another adult's care so for those of you who think that i am a cruel nationals because i support russians the option ban than take a look at the child exchange and you might just start to see my point but that's just my opinion.
