the global economy. headline. is a report on. russian diplomatic sources say evidence suggesting a chemical weapons attack in the syrian capital in august was carried out by a group backed by saudi arabia. an investigation is now. in front of a child after she had drowned her car into security the white house. protest in support of the deposed president. resorts to block access to key. across the country our top stories.
2:01 pm
from our studios here in moscow which is ten ten pm this is. the deadly nerve gas attack in the syrian capital in all this was orchestrated by. group backed by saudi arabia and that's according to russian diplomatic sources speaking on condition of anonymity to the interfax news agency. this is the position that moscow has held all along main me that the rebels are provoking the situation as an attempt to see foreign forces and the international community becoming involved in the conflict inside syria both moscow and damascus believe that there is more than enough evidence that points to the opposition being behind this attack and yet despite the huge body of evidence the united states and her allies continue to put the blame for this attack on the shoulders of the syrian president bashar al assad this is also despite the fact that
2:02 pm
a number of former high ranking members of the american intelligence community have been solved stated that there is a lot of evidence that points to the fact that in fact it may very well have been the rebels behind this attack now what is also important to point out is that these this intelligence community says that there is a growing body of evidence that shows number one that the attack was preplanned and number two that it's a it was to see the united states becoming involved in the conflict they also say that it is in israel's interest to see military intervention in syria but not to the point that the opposition would be strengthened enormously in the long run the united states remains committed to seeing the overthrow of the syrian president bashar al assad and it continues to support a very fractured opposition this despite the fact that even western analysis says
2:03 pm
that the opposition is becoming increasingly more and more radicalized as you have groups like al qaida that are becoming more and more powerful. meanwhile experts from the world's chemical weapons watchdog say they are making encouraging progress towards dismantling syria's stockpiles a team from the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons is in damascus for talks with officials there and a u.n. report earlier concluded that nerve gas had indeed been used on a large scale in august but the consistency of the findings are under question as a kind of boy to explain to my colleague. the report on the use of chemical weapons the first report was released a couple of weeks ago the next report is expected by the end of the of the year and this is going to be the full report but the spectre's claim to use very robust very reliable scientific methods but if you actually go and look at the river war there are so many questions that the main question is of war is the reliability of the

whole research because just to explain you quickly what the inspectors did they either went to several sites or. area the area of the horrible videos of children and bodies and. at one location they spread that around to all the another location to spend around five hours and they try to collect samples environmental samples tissue. fabric soil and also interviews survivors and take blood samples from them and the biggest problem there is that none of the environmental samples that they too could it was good to test to positively for sarin but all the survivors for some reason cast it positively i suggest we listen to one of the sound bites from the interview that i did with angela kane the u.n. high representative for disarmament affairs of things that would read things into perspective they did prove that they were and was evident in the samples they found
2:05 pm
but on the other hand if they did not find samples in the environmental in the environmental samples if they did not find in the environmental samples it just testifies to the honesty of the reinspection so they're saying this is what we found this is what we took now of course it's interesting. miskin would talk about the almost you know the inspectors i think we would expect nothing less from the year the personnel but. you need to understand what actually happened whenever the investigators had a chance to do the job whenever they had the freedom to go around and collect samples none of them test positively and yet whenever they tried to get some tissue samples from people who were pre-selected by the opposition they all test positively and this is pretty sickly it's simply impossible i mean there are just two possible explanations either the united nation inspectors didn't know how to do their job or. those environmental samples or the opposition tried to
2:06 pm
influence the investigation and. brought people who were probably exposed to serin but at some other location and you make your pick i mean it's up to you will you trust more the u.n. inspectors or the opposition what i find extremely interesting and inexplicable to me is that the union specters and the u.n. reports would still claim that they have clear and convincing evidence that sarin was used worse as we just discussed those evidence i'm not there clear north consisting. of the investigation is continuing of course but of course the reported deaths so all the mass chemical or talk made the must go from hundreds to thousands . well actually did the inspectors examine the bodies them so well it is also a very interesting case because we all remember that you know those pictures of dead children bodies were the main case for president obama the main reason for
2:07 pm
president obama to go to war in syria he wanted to punish president assad for killing all those people and what's strange is. the u.n. inspectors didn't even request. of those bodies they didn't want to see the autopsies they didn't want to go to the morgue and. this is how this can explain the reasons why such risks requests from a. there were so many victims who were still alive that there was really no need to to exuma bodies and basically take a tissue from them because there were so many victims who were alive but we had also complete case history meaning that the victims were able to tell how they were affected what they felt what the symptoms were which is much more powerful than taking tissue from from me from a body well. in my humble opinion autopsy is a very very rich source of any sort of information and war over the u.n.
2:08 pm
inspector side a lot of stories about a lot of interviews about how many people were killed at some point that they were poor they say that. they were like. a family of forty people killed in. and yet for some reason they make absolutely no after it's you go and see those bodies it's still not known what led to a culture in washington d.c. which caused a security lockdown of the government and it was an unarmed woman being shot in front of her baby boy police on thursday details now from. we're learning more about the suspect who led police on a high speed chase through washington d.c. her name is miriam carey thirty four years old from connecticut she was a mother she was recently laid off from her job as a dental hygienist and tragically yesterday she was shot dead in front of her one year old child just outside the u.s. capitol here in washington d.c. now this all started at around two pm yesterday afternoon she tried to gain access to the white house security area of the white house where she was confronted by
2:09 pm
police she then sped off struck a police officer and then led police on a high speed chase to the u.s. capitol where again she eluded cops says as police tried to fire on the vehicle and when she led to the third location near senate office building she crashed the car and she was riddled with bullets by the police again with with her child in the back seat it was only then that police say they realized her child was in the car as for why any of this happened and why she was killed we can't know for sure now anyone familiar with this area in d.c. knows that there's a lot of drills going on there's a lot of security checkpoints going on and and really it's hard to drive around so you can imagine someone who might be having some mental illness issues confronting a checkpoint that she wasn't expected to confront and then panicking and driving off and leading to this whole chain of events that happen will be investigations
2:10 pm
into this i mean we're talking about the two most secure locations probably on the planet the u.s. capitol the white house which might be why police were quick to jump to lethal force but a lot of people be saying you know why he why didn't police try and shoot out the tires when they had the vehicle cornered why wasn't another police car brought in to further box in the suspect vehicle and once the suspects car was immobilised the third time why was she just shot dead of course this comes with a string of incidents of people being unarmed and being. held by police you may remember recently there was the case be brought to dosh of who was being questioned by the f.b.i. during that question he was shot dead he was unarmed even with the case. the boston bomber he was captured alive but after several shots rang out by police in the boat that he was hiding and it was discovered that he was unarmed and really on a week to week basis unfortunately in the united states where we're hearing stories
2:11 pm
of police shooting unarmed people who they perceive as a threat and weren't so this is just another tragic instance of that unfortunately here in the nation's capital where you can see how the chase unfolded throughout central washington by taking a look at this map right here starting at the white house the suspect volunteers all the way to the capitol building coming under police find the pursuit ended almost two miles away from the white house where the driver was killed well let's talk about this with ron back he's director of the oncet coalition against war and racism based in washington d.c. what's the reaction to this shooting incident is there an image of on these in this about. well i think many people here in washington d.c. feel that this is a case of another senseless killing by the police by trigger happy cops who resort first to firing their guns first to killing and asking questions later this woman
2:12 pm
was clearly an armed we know that now to be the case when you see the video footage of her hitting a barricade in front of the white house which is now reserved for pedestrian use only not vehicular traffic she is from out of town she may have panicked she may have been confused she may be mentally ill we just don't know that but you see there's five or six police officers just inches away from her head with guns drawn and that's when she starts to flee she runs from them she's running away and they start opening fire and there's lots of people around lots of tourists lots of people working in the washington d.c. area and they keep shooting and finally when she's when her car is immobilized she's riddled with bullets by the police now terry gainer who is the sergeant of arms at the u.s. senate formally the chief of capitol police said yesterday he said there was no possibility at all that she could have gotten access to the capitol grounds because there are so many barricades so if her car is disabled and the police chief or the
2:13 pm
sergeant at arms says there's no possible way for her car to pose a danger to congress why then did they open fire i mean it's because they shoot first ask questions later the police in washington and around the country have a license to kill they know there's never a prosecution and as we saw in congress the congress members just cheered they cheered over this slaughter and it really was the slaughter of an unarmed black woman in front of her baby well the police have said there will be an investigation but has that been a media outcry over this incident. well you know the mainstream media it really becomes a sounding board or the voice of official politics and official power and now the message over and over again is the message of the police they were grand they were courageous they were doing their job they protected they protected the politicians so people are used to the official version coming through the mainstream media but i can tell you in the streets in washington d.c. particularly in the african-american community and this woman was
2:14 pm
a black woman there's lots of skepticism because they know people know from their own firsthand experience that the police have the right to abuse and kill him in washington especially against black people and there's a lot of skepticism and a lot of fear that this too will be covered up that there won't be a serious investigation it'll be the police investigating themselves very among what happened boston during the marathon and then of course the twelve people dying in a naval shipyard killing not long ago a couple of weeks ago it's hardly surprising that the city's going to be on age isn't it so the police would be expected to perhaps react but you will saying they reacted to this but it is of course in an area of intense security very highly sensitive area run capitol hill. right and for that reason no car can actually get through the barricade so somebody could drive into a barricade but there's no possible way that that car is going to proceed to the white house and do harm to the president or to congress as we know again from the
2:15 pm
sergeant at arms from the u.s. senate the police can always use the rationale that it's tense that these are highly secure areas that that's why they must shoot first and ask questions later but you know there were many many other ways to have disable that vehicle to have stopped that she was unarmed she had a baby in the back seat they didn't have to resort first of all to the shooting her and we don't know the whole story was she stopped first by it before that first barricade by an undercover police officer which there are some stories about she may have been panicked if she saw someone not in uniform approaching her or threatening her and if she was suffering any sort of stress or mental mental problems you could see how under those circumstances something could be triggered we just don't know the details but we do know that the police always resort first to shooting and in the united states thousands of people die every year because of the police brought icons brought back thank you very much indeed live thank you
2:16 pm
washington thank you the egyptian military continues its crackdown on the protest movement troops who reportedly fired live rounds at supporters of the deposed president mohamed morsi to prevent them from occupying told his square is bill true with an update on the escalating tensions there. these friday clashes between supporters of ousted leader mohamed morsi and security forces that have rocked the capital have turned deadly we have bloodshed on the streets multiple clashes explodes in multiple locations across the come across the country as well as the city i was down just a square when the thousands of supporters of morsy essentially attempted to access this main running point that had been sealed off by security forces with tanks concrete walls and basically barricades made of barbed wire basically after that there was a cations between security forces which descended into clashes i heard automatic weapon fire can't confirm whether it was live ammunition but it certainly was green
2:17 pm
through the air as well as varney's of tear gas really making the entirety of downtown almost impossible to bring we have had reports of a possibly a fatality there also running points in giza which is the site of one of these sit ins for mohammed morsi earlier on in august by the dispersed security forces that also there were clashes in additions to thousands gathering at the site of one of the main incumbents in supports all ousted leader mohamed morsy in the rubble of the way and nasr city we've also heard of pressures in the northern city of an exam drea and in the nile delta and this comes just a few days before we expect a mass demonstrations on sunday which is the national armed forces day or the anniversary of the nine seventy three war morsi supporters have vowed to come to tahrir square which they have been forbidden from accessing in addition pro-military protests are expected the same day so we really will see this gearing up for this rival protest day in addition we're just hearing every day of more arrests of various different leaders so really there aren't very many of the

missing brotherhood figures still left on the ground there either in jail or on the run so this is have a direct effect on their protests on the ground but it still has been quite tense because these people aren't going home the more determined than ever we've seen a number of their fellow protesters killed they say they will keep going until mohamed morsy is reinstated or until at least the military step away from power. true there let's not discuss the situation in egypt live with dr mohamed ghanem he's a representative for the muslim brotherhood in the u.k. dr mohamed we remember the violence that followed the setting up of those muslim brotherhood sit ins in the cities in the sama all the security forces doing the right thing by not allowing them to occupy these sites to prevent more death and violence. it's not the case at all it is not. the military force or the police again is

muslim brotherhood its military is the vicious bloody military coup who would like to suppress the people multiple lives in the political process and in the same time have a monopoly and those sources retain the privilege that's why the gun against the majority of the egyptian people is not the case and people divide to do anything it's just a minority which have no basis in bijection street politically and they have no chance. to be in power. through a democratic process that's why they conclude with the army or the army or the plan to get rid of the democratic elected people. without discrimination if it is muslim brotherhood do any other things because we are democratic and we will respect whoever comes through the democratic process
2:20 pm
those people the do not respect the will of the people and the whole idea is the army itself or the police forces belong to the egyptian people the army and the people or the coup support or would like to have the egyptian people belong to them and have a monopoly well and bradleys over those people they put the interest of the individual or whoever interests again is the interest of the egyptian people what about those many islamist leaders now that they are in jail how is that affecting the support for the muslim brotherhood now. because this is how what the price people used for the. twenty fifth of january to be usually come home the main essence was to have your freedom to go for

democrats democracy but dog this coup which is a bloody and vicious. military coup. against the will of the majority of the egyptian people let me learn quickly or not you talk a lot of i will learn a lot about what we don't want to reveal you talk a lot about the will of the egyptian people the military at the time when morsi was forced to step down were saying they were coming to the help of the people because the people felt that the muslim brotherhood was radicalizing the government also is poor economic mismanagement the people in egypt were not happy and it was getting to a crisis point that's why the military stepped in and promised that there will be future elections that's not an acceptable argument just briefly. well i am i wouldn't agree with. you you are right the stew sold down within the democratic process you go for election within the democratic not to corner the

continued her naughty time is ticking for the u.s. with less than two weeks left until it runs out of money failure to find a solution will lead to devastating effects that's the official warning from the u.s. treasury department predicting an unprecedented with catastrophic consequences it says a collapse of the american economy would send shock waves across the world ending with a financial crisis and recession worse than the two thousand and eight melt well the u.s. government shutdown is taking its toll on the president's plans as well with barack obama forced to cancel a trip to asia and missed two summits. the federal stoppages place hundreds of thousands of workers on unpaid leave and it's costing the american economy at least three hundred million dollars every day and one of the not essential services affected is the national space agency which is just celebrating its fiftieth anniversary george abbey he's a fellow in space policy at the baker institute of rice university he used to oversee the international space station for nasa says there will be consequences of

this shutdown down the line. there are missions that are coming up in say four or five or six months fairly critical motions or missions that robotic flights are going to the planets they have launch windows that have to be maintained and if the workers are that working and being done and so there is going to be an effect on the line this is the second shutdown of the space agency for exactly the same reason is it any different from the last time what we're seeing today or these last few days. in the last i was involved in the last one i was a director of the johnson space center and we were flying the space shuttle and of course flying missions to time so we had to maintain a schedule so i managed to keep the workforce. working and we kept the work going on in the johnson space center and the kennedy space center in florida and we

didn't really have an impact but this time with about ninety seven percent of the workforce at the johnson space center laid off there will be an impact on the wind . well russian president vladimir putin has had an easier day than his american counterpart he joined prince albert of monaco at a unique olympic exhibition here in moscow all but brought his own collection of olympic torch is to the russian capital on what was his first official visit who should add to the collection by presenting his guest with a torch that will be used at the upcoming winter olympics in the russian resort city of sochi the prince of monaco is a keen sportsman and has taken part in five olympic games he has a black judo belt and even traveled to the north pole. today for the moment more news in just over half of the mean time our exclusive interview with russia's envoy to the u.n. .

you know i'm old enough to remember on reruns when gomer pyle used to cry citizen's arrest when he saw something wrong in mayberry and a new law in russia could allow our city average to do the same thing by helping to enforce law in the country this low allows citizens to protect public order by becoming volunteer workers deputy policeman and even forming people's militias which will in theory prevent crime or at least allow the police to be informed more quickly and accurately of course this like any project which sounds nice on paper is all about the implementation so we'll see how these deputies and militias will work overall i think this won't have much of an effect on crime but it could have a huge impact on non-criminal bad public behavior you know i am not the bravest guy on the planet and it's hard to confront

a group of five drunk guys who are just as big as you who are acting like idiots on the street but doing so with ten stone sober militiaman buddies could provide a much more convincing argument for the drunkard's this could be a big step forward for democracy when you actually have at least a scrap of power or control over the events in your neighborhood then you're sure feel like people actually have a lot of power and this could be good for the country but that's just my opinion. hello and welcome to cynthia and co i'm selfish ever not say a solution to syria's chemical weapons is finding its way to reality here is that there's our now in the war zone.
