tv   Larry King Now  RT  October 16, 2013 9:00pm-9:31pm EDT

9:00 pm
larry king no public good rebel meghan mccain spent the majority of my twenty's being attacked in the media and i was getting really burned out what's going on in your party the party splintered i'm constantly having people tell me i'm not a good republican i should leave the party etc etc and we're going to find out the next election cycle at this party is going to have a revival or if and i pause my father was very pissed off that i didn't interview a playboy and i was like if my brother jack had done an interview in playboy would you have this reaction was like no one should be doing interviews of playboy this fail all merged on larry king. welcome to larry king now she's back meghan mccain all the collarbones politico
9:01 pm
iconoclast and the daughter of senator john mccain she's the star added executive producer of a new show called raising mckay in the series premier should turn before teams on the newly launched pivot network meghan by the way is also the first guest to be on larry king now twice for a one on one interview thank you i'm honored while we're on a down of you what is pivot t.n.t. brand new network that just launched a month ago and available on online and on cable and in any place you can get t.v. and it's truck to young people is call you call the genre bending your series is called luzon rebranding meaning they called it that it's my show as a talk show and i have such a newfound respect for how what an amazing interviewer you are because it's so hard at such a hard job to do to get people to open up but it's a talk show but we film it like a reality show. documentary's so what it was she was still from so like if you come
9:02 pm
on my show. i would love if you were come i gather you would come on and we would have a theme for an episode and you and i would go out into the world and the cameras would take us in the car having a discussion about the issue talking to different guys back at our loft where our home base was and then hopefully at a bar afterward because i thought the more interesting conversations when i did interviews were happening a lot of times in the green room beforehand are in a bar afterward great ideas so you understand we even see you producers yeah and you put the mikes on all that we see every like it or if this were my show all of you guys would be on camera and i would ask all of you questions and you would have to answer it so they were very very kind to let me subject them to being filmed as well as mention in the first episode you are. good and they grew i mean in the ok i got my twitter got hacked and we follow each other on twitter and the person the house and my twitter direct message to you which means a private direct message it wasn't anything scandals it was just like i need to
9:03 pm
talk to you and thank goodness you didn't answer i assumed you guys knew it was there because if i do talk to you i would go through your producers but yet person hacked into my twitter and direct message to you well good luck with this new song once a week done once a week every saturday night you said it's the best thing you've ever done it was. you know i've been working in politics and cable news for such a long time and i was getting really burned out and really just sick of left versus right and the fighting that's involved in the anger and i just wanted to do something that was more light hearted and i got to talk about issues that i care about i was completely me on camera it was very liberating to actually you know see all sides of my personality i get to wear whatever clothes i want i don't have to wear dresses or heels then you know i got to run around york city and drink whiskey while i was filming as. you love them as in b.c. i did well my contract without butter when i was you for the field my dad loves the show he loves it he's on the last step. so did my interview him for the first time
9:04 pm
in my whole life and i think it's really really important it's a really important thing that i've done in my life so i can it's kind of my way of showing my grandkids who my father was as awesome as you didn't ask him as of things about like my parents' marriage like everything i've ever wanted to ask him or didn't have the guts to do i asked him during our interview no bullying is mentioned in the show you know a thing or two about like you know it was then we did that was it on bullying i didn't want to think of myself as someone that had been bullied but then when i started talking to my cosyn different people i talk to sandra fluke who you know and most people in the world though and we both agreed that we both thought that we had been politically bullied so that's why i consider had been done to me when humans meaning that you know people are using you as a sort of example of what you represent meaning sandra fluke represented you know reproductive rights or whatever and people are projecting onto her obviously rush limbaugh projected onto her what he thought she represented i think people have
9:05 pm
done that with me projected on to me what they think they represent who ever did to you oh yeah i had to go to i had to go into therapy really yeah after going back with glenn beck made fun of me and fake vomited on at the start of his show i did extend cancer p.s.a. where i appeared like from the neck up so it made me look like i was out in the sun naked but you didn't see my body and he threw up on camera like fakes threw up and it was just so hurtful and so it was all over the internet people were discussing it on the new show until i prove that. there's no use that i know the brilliant or not let's go on. a little problem and he did not but yeah i mean yeah i mean i just hope i think we live in just crazy time and i'm fine now but you know i've had to admit on my show how much it affected me in how serious it was and i think it's easy for people to go on t.v. and say i'm fine it was all great but it is the most things that have happened to me i'm almost twenty nine. i'm going to be twenty nine october you know my twenty's
9:06 pm
are coming to an end and i've spent the majority of my twenty's being attacked in the media it's weird i'm looking back in my twenty's you get angry at your name no no i'm so proud of my family i mean it sounds like i'm being so negative but i've had so much fun as well and i love my parents i'm so grateful for every experience i've ever had and you know i've just i'm a luckiest woman in the world want to go see if you folks they never could tales you know you always told you you'd be yeah i don't know why you know if i were them i probably would have reined me in a little bit but i think most people think of conservatives as well yes yes and i think my parents live vicariously through me i think i do things and say things that they would like to. try to we had to interview them oh so weird so weird i don't know if you've ever interviewed your parents or your wife or anything like that it's an interview of my wife. it's strange is a strange experience but it was fun to that is geared toward millennium.
9:07 pm
people to get a bad rap yeah i think time magazine is doing covers were but talking about our generation like the me me me generation i don't think it's accurate at all i think we've been handed the worst hand of any generation in a long time you know war kon and me and the environment there are so many a list could go on and i think we're dealing with it in a really amazing way and i think social media makes things easier and i have a lot more faith in my generation than i do any of the previous ones and i don't think i would have a career if it weren't for young people ok she read about they seem to have some i resolved with. the give up what do you make of this whole chatroom i think it's unbelievably complicated and i just think anybody they goes on the internet and watches these videos of people being gassed and chemically gaza and the skin coming off their bodies and it's just the most graphic horrible things i've ever seen i don't understand how we can't intervene in some way. i've had
9:08 pm
a lot of people in my life tell me that we need to stay out of it and they tell them to figure it out themselves and i just don't think that's what america is and i think there's a lot of people who said that we probably should have intervened in the holocaust during the time and i think we can't turn our heads from gross crimes against humanity i just i can't watch the videos and think that we should sit back and do nothing you think the public is just plain tired oh yeah i am gonna stand there's no stories anymore about afghanistan boys coming home yeah i understand it every day and so but who served there i understand how war weary this country is and i don't think we're going to war i think there is talk about intervening but i understand why the country is worried about it escalating and it's unbelievably complicated in the country is really divided in fact i think sixty percent of the american public doesn't want to do anything if they could put it on the international control over it worked out and he gives up the chemical weapons that's better than revenge isn't it yes. yes of course of course so you know if you
9:09 pm
fall i agree completely either who wants war but we do have moral obligations i agree we have you know i agree with you for the stand up as an issue that amazing to me how i understand i have two brothers in the military one that would deployed twice i've i mean i really you know seen it firsthand military brat you are you're probably my dad was in the military when i was born but yeah but both my brothers are the military and you know i've had a lot of i've dated a few a spa another thought i have some experience but i just you know it's horrible nobody wants to see loved ones going to war or did you make of your father playing poker or more and or hearings was on i don't know i thought it was funny you know people did it and they were really offended but he you know three and a half hours into it to a debate on the floor i can see i would get bored but he was very weird about people knowing that he likes to gamble so much and now i think he feels liberated.
9:10 pm
if i want him to start during like celebrity charity poker tournaments i think you should just start playing vegas was wrong about he loves to gamble my dad has to gamble and i love to gamble and like i just want to go to vegas together and gamble and like you know stay out of mom like get over it she doesn't like to gamble but she likes going to vegas how is the obama mccain relationship doing. it's getting kind of weird isn't it they ran against each other on or became opposing that he supports my dad told me on the phone the other day that now that my dad is no longer his opponent he can obama can like him so i think it's interesting i like bipartisanship i'm never going to be a huge huge fan of president obama but i like them to see them working together one of the things you didn't like about political and all of us was you thought what the bill forcing you to be argumentative it was part of the that you know i am really grateful for my experience working cable news because i learned so much and
9:11 pm
i learned so much about it really trained me to do interviews in a different way and it's really trying to interview people in a different way i just would like to be part of the solution in this country and start concentrating on what unites us where so divided i don't wake up every morning an angry person i don't wake up every morning feeling angry at democrats and angry what's going on i wake up in the morning and i genuinely want to try and make the world a better place especially when it comes to young people and i know it's down earnest and corny but i really mean it and i feel like i have been given so much in my life i would like to give more i would like to show young people why i love politics and why a love america so much and you know talk about what the issues that our generation is facing and try and fix and i don't care if it sounds earnest but i don't want to be governing and fight what's going on in your party the republican party is the tea party influence of the tea party of be attacked fellow republicans something reagan said never to do what it where is the what's the state of the genome i attack of publicans and i'm in times i guess i'm going against. reagan the party's
9:12 pm
splintered right now it's the half that is more socially moderate and more politically moderate and there's the side that's more radical and much more conservative than you know the site the two sides are constantly fighting it out constantly having people tell me i'm not a good republican i should leave the party etc etc and or going to find out next election cycle if this party is going to have a revival of it and i doubt any women that should know what should do you in a national election by nominating someone who is interesting and young and lives in the real world and hopefully supports marriage equality because it's a big game changer for a lot of young voters and i think also more than anything you really have to start reaching out to minority is women in different age groups which we're just not to really have a favorite marco rubio at the moment but i mean can change last time i was here i really liked chris christie and it would have been that level you know i surprised speech at the convention and i just was really unimpressed with it i thought it was sort of he was gloating and just talking about himself the entire time and i just
9:13 pm
don't understand i felt like he was accepting the nomination were at their convention and i think it was a long time before you said the word romney it was like twenty three minutes or something before you say the word romney's so i just i don't like it's really turn me off well as a strong woman there must be a part of you. that kind of like. hillary i mean me a poser because i would imagine rob a woman yes but that says there's a strong woman who might be president oh yeah i really want to woman to be president i think if there were more women holding office we would have a lot less of the issues we have in this country right now and i really like hillary clinton a lot of ways i mean i disagree with her on many things but she's actually much closer with my dad on foreign policy issues than i would have thought much and she is you know she's she's cool i like hillary clinton and i think she's put up with a lot of b.s. meghan mccain this show is raising mccain we'll talk about her famous family and some of those you that.
9:14 pm
it was a. very hard to take a. look. at that are back with the earthquake there. was. a bit of
9:15 pm
a political. wealthy british scientists. sometimes write for. market why not. find out what's really happening to the global economy with mike's cancer or a no holds barred look at the global financial headlines tune in to kaiser report on our. we're back with the star of raising mccain meghan mccain debuts on the pivot network on the fourteenth you talk about feminism on raising mccain yeah and it's already controversial the episode has not even aired we are going to be controversial but i was there because we released a clip on line and people are going crazy already when you don't consider yourself
9:16 pm
a feminist because to me that's a woman who is i doing it all totally not someone else do you think women should have complete say over their reproductive rights yes absolutely that's a feminist issue just think that women should get paid equally to men absolutely it's a feminist issue do you think it should be able to share your political opinion absolutely that's a feminist issue but i think those are just human issues i don't know i just feel like it's a dated concept so i think this is really about a word i don't worry that has a negative connotation i don't think i was a feminist because i'm more a public can and because i like the attention of men i enjoy having a man in my life and you know i like getting dressed up having hair and makeup i play dress and provocative once in a while and you know people are going crazy and i knew it was going to be a sort of a hot button issue i didn't know we would have to release a one minute clip and people would already be attacking it are you saying before you're not a feminist for me this can't look pretty well that's the whole question we were asking because my interpretation of feminism was that it was sort of a woman needs
9:17 pm
a man like a fish need to bicycle all sort of a term that was a little bit outdated although i consider myself a very. strong independent woman i want to be treated in the workforce the exact same way a man's treated i was a you're a classic some of us really why do people a good woman like morrison meyer who's the head of yahoo why does she not want to be defined as a feminist i don't understand it i want to find you is a different from english thank you i love. your bold you have opinions you come forward thank you glad you're striving for equal rights for women what words from a supposed to not wear with sit in your parents are not supposed to swear you there apparently but it's a really was a really fun episode we actually interviewed high schoolers about feminism and what they think feminism is and it was there was a cute little girl who was a republican that said i don't know if i can be a republican to be a feminist and she was sixteen years old and i said i feel the exact same way and we've discussed it and it was it's a really interesting episode women is still it's not an equal playing field as it's
9:18 pm
ridiculously on even playing field with women and men in america in general but especially in politics. you said recently i have to do that i've talked about sex in playboy i could never run for president yeah it's true that a guy could i think that the way the media treats a woman my clothes and my hair are inevitably always brought up in interviews and you know people reviewing my show are always bringing up the superficial i think if a man were hosting my show they would be talking about my hair or my clothes in each episode i think that in itself and you know these articles are written by women and that in and of itself shows exactly how uneven things are i just want to be judged for what's coming out of my mouth and the kind of show i'm producing but they have a deeply always goes back to you know this shock and i'm wearing what i love to hear and what they did. we did this so i sent me over the phone with this i threw out a man you know i got trouble last time i know. you called him an ass jackass i shall i doubt i still stand by that no this is what rick santorum is the ultimate jag.
9:19 pm
you can't get an opinion out of my good just liberal. with the show all right sheryl sandberg. a feminist feminism and the dunham lena dunham you know i like girls i think she's a provocateur or and i really like that show and i think she's doing interesting things. the wife of the congressman who form a coalition of about for her and i don't understand her choices and then we know jack ass. traded and just regular guy do you like him a little bit when there's in the other day what your problem is that would be a dog or a well he needs i am not going to lecture him on his life but he shouldn't be running for office was your motto and laker i've always liked her she's been a been on her show a few times than she's always really nice to me very bright yes we work out of the same gym to miley cyrus you know i like her i actually like i just think she's being young and discovering herself and i agree with you i'm going to get over them
9:20 pm
oh elizabeth warren elizabeth warren you know i have a hard time knocking women in politics in general you know i think she's she's you know put up with a lot of b.s. and i think is interesting i don't agree with are but you're never going to get me to talk and too much of anything about women in politics when you talk about church on television how does your bed feel hope he doesn't see it. when i gave an interview with playboy i didn't pose for playboy did play was twenty questions because i think a way is an iconic american magazine and the way people talked about it was if i had done a center falls and i'm completely in complete clothes in the interview and the picture that accompanied it and my father was very pissed off that i did an interview with playboy and i was surprised it was like a jacket done interview with playboy would you have such a big issue with it is a well known as i don't know really like if my brother jack had done an interview in play would you have this reaction it was like no one should be doing interviews of playboy this fail. under my family when you date a girl or if you ever get semi-serious what's it like when the guy meets you bad.
9:21 pm
it's only happened once. i don't know i mean in my my you know it's actually i there's always a screening process i like my boyfriends to meet my brother first my brother jimmy and he'll like see if it's got or not i hope i hope that there is a guy out there that isn't intimidated by my family and. i've yet to really find it but it's my life is what it is my family is of as i'm so proud of them and people said deal with it we've changed in so many things in america we've changed in the black white situation certainly the gay issue is changing every day you think your father is going to come out in favor of legalizing marijuana didn't he just kind of right to say that he said that maybe we should ease up on it or maybe use it in a legal line go. i think so i think he's on his way which is awesome you recently called your dad one of the last remaining bad asses around what does that mean i mean in the same way that i think there's
9:22 pm
a certain generation of man and i would put you in that category as well that are. men in bed and that really you know lives in a different way than i think we can now and i think my dad is one of those people i think you're one of those people i would say bill clinton is one of those people i think men that really lives and have interesting provocative stories to tell and i just meet lose perks that have nothing to say i just i love you all the losers you live in new york city you live in europe i love new yorker and uses that new york there are losers everywhere we have some social media questions a j o j amy who tweets how will millennialists change the g.o.p. . how the money goes to the g.o.p. i'm hoping that there will be a lot of there are a lot of young republicans out there that are much more socially moderate and i think unfortunately we have to wait for the older generation to die off as terrible as that sounds and you know what we're going to keep coming up we're going to keep losing elections and i hope young people can help change that dean will but once
9:23 pm
you know what your favorite cocktail is jack and coke easy that's my go to jack daniels so dave or it keep it simple you know sinatra jack daniels tattooed on his arm and he was a lot of soldiers frank sinatra and jack daniels i didn't add to that he didn't give a direct really well that's a good drink straight up with a simple ok. we received a celebrity tweet from kristen chenowith who's a terrific i love her all great broadway star that says you're adorable wants to know what the differences are between you and your bed basically politically what would you say is the essential difference gay marriage marriage equality big one he says on that idea no and the other really big one is abortion he's much more structure on abortion than i am i don't think abortion should be illegal and i i don't know if he actually thinks of course illegal but he's much stricter than i am one more might palazzo tweets what do you think the reason is behind the conservatives resistance to evolving social issues i've no idea other than they
9:24 pm
think it has to something with their religion but i think religion and politics should be much more separated than it is i don't know if someone can answer that question for me let me know because in the meantime the democratic party is like come to us to anyone and everyone comes our party and republicans are like meghan mccain you're the daughter of a senator who is trying to help things get out get out now get out they're not going to have any right to have any member sloughs we want to finish the show with a game called if you only knew ok first kiss my first kessel is the boy. peter how peter how old were you i was in sixth sixth grade in arizona state in arizona where was this would you kiss in his yard i mean are you peter allen talked to him in years or was peter you're in the same grade he was like my little boy friend and also. what about having a peter he lives here in california i. his very cute is that for the new me i'm sure he's eager on what he told you i would i would hang out

9:26 pm
characteristic you most appreciate in other people loyalty and honesty loyalty a big big big biggest misconception about celebrity. i don't consider myself a celebrity at all you don't know what your shallow brief did and you know when you're on television you should listen. i think i'm like i have an internet following the biggest i think the biggest about having any kind of public anything as they it's. i don't know that it's easy it's really hard it's hard to have people you know talk smack about you all the time and for me it's hard to keep really i have really really close small circle of friends and it's harder for me to let people and now. believe more of them told me that the definition of slowly was if you've been with the bottom people magazine more than once. and i guess i was levering your biggest misconception about politics. that it's all ugly and dirty and mudslinging i think politics and specially american politics is just
9:27 pm
such a beautiful amazing this country is so unique and so many different ways and you know the average person really can change can change history and you know we live in a country where my dad was fifth from the bottom of his class crashed a bunch of planes as a womanizer grew up to be revered say gamble are you know like when i grow and grow up to be one of the most famous politicians ever and almost being president i mean i love this country for that reason you know and i just i don't know i love politics i will probably return to it at some point in some capacity or as a place to be in it's who i am i mean people keep acting like this show is some rejection of politics not a rejection of politics surjection of cable news told me something no one knows about you something no one knows about me. i don't know if i want to kids. that's really i don't know i don't know it really scares me i'm twenty i was twenty nine i'm going to be you know when you're like starting to get in your thirty's as
9:28 pm

9:29 pm
it's because one whole attention and the mainstream media works side by side the joke is actually on we're. going to look. at our teen years we have a different pretty. good because the news of the world just is not this funny i'm not laughing dammit i'm not happy. with. you guys sort of jokes i will hand over the stuff that i've got to. if you. could take three. or three. three. three. three. three blog video for your media project
9:30 pm
a free media oh god r t v dot com. what's up guys welcome to breaking the set if you watch the show you know how much of a fan i have him of nestle i kid i kid guys there's finally a victory to declare against a massive bottled water corporation and while it may still be a drop in the bucket it's something to celebrate after decades of wild west water destruction ontario the company is finally being reined in slightly in this canadian province the ministry of environment has granted nestle a permit to extract one point one three million liters of groundwater every day but that access wasn't enough for nestle corp fought tooth and nail to remove a restriction that would permit that would limit their extraction during times of drought because a wide concern.
