breaking news on r t a boeing seven thirty seven passenger plane has crashed in the russian city of cazan and during an attempted landing all fifty people on board including two children have died it is not known what caused the tragic accident investigators are looking at a range of reasons including pilot error weather conditions and technical issues as well. i. broadcasting live direct from our studios in moscow the city's r.t.m. sean thomas let's get right to our top stories monday has been declared a day of mourning in russia's tatarstan republic after a boeing seven thirty seven jet crashed because an airport killing all fifty people
10:01 pm
on board it had departed from moscow and was attempting to land when the tragedy happened these are the latest pictures from cars on airport where the jet crashed and caught fire apparently during its second landing attempt there were two children among the forty four passengers and six crew members also perished so far ten of the victims have been identified artie's lucy catherine often joins us with more information lucy what can you tell us about how this all unfolded folded what we know so far hi there sean well certainly a fatal journey for all fifty people onboard that flight flight three six three operated of course by tartar stan airlines what we know so far that airplane took off from domodedovo airport right here in moscow about six twenty five pm local time it crash landed at its destination the cars on the international airport in central russia all forty four passengers and six crew members confirmed dead where
10:02 pm
what exactly happened is a little bit in the murky we do know that the crew has reportedly been trying to open. it's a landing to make a second approach the pilot had radioed control operations to let them know about the problem but the plane had exploded when it crashed into the runway the tarmac now we don't know the cause of this point investigators are looking at to numerous options for example pilot error whether weather conditions were in issue as well as technical failure we're also hearing that there may have been a problem with the fuel that could have contributed to this disaster tatarstan airlines released a statement saying that its pilots were experience although that does not rule out human error we also know that there were strong wind gusts when the plane was making its approach possibly a factor what is clear however is the lack of survivors and the emergency rescue operations had concluded all fifty passengers confirmed dead flights halted until monday afternoon at that airport now this airplane had made a journey from
10:03 pm
a cousin to moscow earlier on sunday our team managed to catch up with one of the passengers on that very same airplane that tragically crashed hours later let's take a listen to her experience on that flight. but instead. the floated so smoothly but just before the landing the plane started vibrating few sleet initially i thought it was the wind first between we were told of the plane it turned the with. the plane was shaking from side to side linda to my first attempt but it was really bad landing and it felt like the plane was going to rule over the runway. lucy this is the experience of one of the passengers on its penultimate flight on this particular plane what do we know about the plane itself would it come from history sure this particular aircraft was in operation for twenty three years the boeing seven three seven a five hundred this plane had been through numerous companies that own did target
10:04 pm
star airlines in fact was the eighth operator to have that plane in its fleet now the boeing seven three seven is the best selling airline in aviation history it's immensely popular at any moment in time there would be some like twelve hundred of them flying in the air boeing it did issue a statement saying that it is actually contributing to this investigation is going to be sending a team to look into the technical issues that took place with the airplane as russian authorities investigate the matter and certainly there will be an investigation not only russian citizens on board that flight but also a british citizen a woman who perished along with the rest of the passengers now the tragedy does highlight the poor safety record of the regional airlines in the supply of basically international routes through the world's largest nation russia and the former soviet republic combined in twenty eleven had a rather heavy accident rate three times of the world average back in twenty eleven and certainly this tragedy is going to raise
10:05 pm
a lot of questions as to whether there have been the necessary improvements and what's really behind the cause of this specific incident whatever the conclusion not going to bring back those fifty lives tragically lost sean or. artie's lucic half an hour reporting for us there we you know we've been staying across a story all night long thank you for keeping us updated. now we are also keeping track of everything that is happening in it because on on our web site r.t. dot com we've got all of the updates from the moment the crash happened through till now. that we've been getting of the thoughts of aviation experts in russia and abroad earlier we spoke to captain mark weiss who is a civil aviation leader at the spectrum group and used to fly the same kind of airplane that is crashed in because on he believes that it was a chain of events that led to this catastrophe that was a poor repair that led to fatigue and obviously catastrophic failure but all of
10:06 pm
these factors are going to be looked at normally in an emergency you want to get the aircraft on the ground safely as quickly as possible so what would have caused of the aircraft to not leave it on its first attempt was weather a factor. crew fatigue crew illness there are going to be so many things that have to be looked at keeping in mind that accidents generally don't happen from a single event it's your chain of events that lead to a catastrophe like this. now at this stage of variety of factors could have been responsible for sunday's crash let's look at what the key causes of air tragedies have been through the years now today's aircraft are incredibly sophisticated machines but very sensitive as well to how they're being flown more than half of air crashes are caused by errors made by the flight crew then various technical problems with the aircraft are responsible for just under a quarter of problems leading to accidents you can see that sliver in the purple
10:07 pm
right there of course bad weather conditions they can play their part and they are behind a twelve percent of crashes that little sliver and yellow and then finally in green nine percent of all air incidents are due to terrorist attacks or hijackings those figures are from plane crash info dot com. now an analysis of the all important flight voice and data recorders should provide vital information as to what happened during the flight david atlee or mount operations and safety editor of flight global magazine says that authorities will get clues to the reasons of the accident when the two black boxes are found. two boxes one of them records all of the communications on the flight deck that's what the pilots say to each other what the pilots say on the radio all the incoming voice messages from air traffic control and also you can even hear things like the engine noise if there was an explosion on board you would hear that then the other box is is i suppose you could
10:08 pm
say the main one but they're both very important in their own way is the flight data recorder which records basically the health of the airplane it records what the engines are doing it records the profile of the aircraft speed it's acid tud it records all sorts of parameters of the airlines you know what the airline is doing from minute to minute and there will be at least half an hour of recording of this and it may be more before the time that the action accident actually happened so your therapist will have a great deal of information to work with. now let's go over what we know about this tragic plane crash in central russia so far a boeing seven thirty seven jet traveling from moscow to cazan apparently lost altitude and exploded during its second landing attempt none of the fifty people on board survived two children and the elder son of tatarstan president were among those killed it was first believed there were no foreigners on board but now it has
10:09 pm
emerged a british woman died during the crash the airport will remain closed until noon we don't know yet what exactly caused the accident but investigators are considering poor fuel quality as well as the possibilities of pilot error and inclement weather they've obtained documents from tatarstan air company and will begin examining them in just a few hours the boeing seven thirty seven five hundred series aircraft had been in use for twenty three years and tarnished on air is the eighth airline to fly that particular plane since that time. now to some other news as we recap the week's top stories this past week's interlude between the two rounds of crucial talks over iran's nuclear program has
10:10 pm
sent some mixed signals on the one hand of the u.n. watchdog declared that atomic projects have been virtually frozen since president rouhani came to power then on the other hand u.s. lawmakers are insisting even more sanctions are placed on iran a move that threatens to derail the deal now the white house is urging congress to give diplomacy a chance but the powerful israeli lobby is insisting on tougher penalties and the previous round of negotiations failed to produce any results are reportedly due to france's surprise opposition from london is in israel now has already. surely that paris will be tough and will not ease its pressure on iran during next week's nuclear talks side hussein most of young and iranian policy makers who used to be on iran's nuclear diplomacy team in negotiations with the i.a.e.a. says france's behavior shows double standards. france has a peaceful because of israeli claims i think this is
10:11 pm
a historical mistake france is making the i. five thousand man inspection. program and frequently has announced there is no evidence of diversion toward the position this is clear but i really doubt the real concern of france is a nuclear bomb because france has a strategic relations with israel is not a member of n.p.t. and possess about four hundred nuclear bombs therefore france should not be concerned about nuclear bomb france help israel to master nuclear bomb france held in the two master nuclear bomb therefore france has a very very bad record. now should the talks result in something israel is not happy with it is reportedly ready to join forces with a former sworn enemy for
10:12 pm
a possible strike on iran britain's sunday times newspaper suggests saudi arabia is working closely with israel's mossad on a military campaign if he runs a nuclear program is encouraged to buy an agreement in geneva now under the reported plan saudi arabia is understood to be allowing israel use of its airspace it would also assist israel in deploying combat drones helicopters and tanker planes the saudis are furious and are willing to give israel all the help it needs that's what an anonymous source allegedly told the newspaper the sunni muslim gulf kingdom is alarmed to that shiite dominated iran could get a nuclear weapon a concern shared by israel iranian political analyst inside mohammad marandi thinks that if the saudi was saudi israeli plan it plays out there really would be no winners. well we don't know if these reports are true but the saudis and the israelis are moving closer and closer to one another however it's highly unlikely
10:13 pm
that the saudis or the israelis would really want to attack iran because then that they both countries would be losers they would be seen grassers and obviously the iranians would retaliate the soviets what you know very vulnerable it would create an economic catastrophe for the world and that would mobilize the whole middle east especially people on the streets in support of iran they would isolate israel after all the americans with all their firepower. failed in their attempt to bring about syria because world public opinion and american public opinion simply would not accept it to syria now where the country could be free of most of its chemical arsenal by the end of the year if another country agrees to take it on the ambitious deadline was set by the international chemical watchdog as part of a road map which also says all toxic stockpiles must be destroyed by the end of june but the biggest problem now is the lack of volunteers to take on the delicate
10:14 pm
task of eliminating more than a thousand tons of highly poisonous materials norway was the first to give a firm no its refusal was mirrored by albania which saw a series of protests against the country being the destruction site for syria's chemical arsenal political analyst chris bambery says it should be europe's wealthy nations who step in to implement the ambitious elimination plan my understanding is that they will go to france and i think it's really the onus is on britain or france in terms of the western european powers to deal with this because as i say they do have chemical weapons although we don't advertise the fact that britain and france have stockpiles of chemical weapons they do have the ability to do that the french and the british have the facilities would you can dismantle these things safely they have the expertise. sure that's the better option syria has abided by this deal the west should really put its money where its mouth is he signed up to
10:15 pm
this deal it's sending ships in this case norwegian ships to deal with this but the norwegians claiming they don't have the expertise to dismantle it you can see why chemical weapons see the woman to take them in and i think it kind of smacks of i resent over the fact that really in the end this deal has come or putin brokered a deal. and no syria has abided by the agreements of it and i can't hear but feel there's a sort of kind of resentment in european capitals that actually the deal has worked . destruction of chemical weapons is not the only problem in syria now the brutal conflict between government forces and rebels continues to claim thousands of lives on sunday thirty one troops including a four generals were killed by a bomb attack on a syrian government building near damascus the explosives are thought to have been placed in the basement meaning that the opposition fighters were able to breach security to get into the building. the e.u. is being dragged deeper and deeper into the conflict intelligence chiefs believe
10:16 pm
more than a thousand young european muslims have joined the islamists and are fighting in syria now it's thought that they are being recruited through social media the e.u. counterterrorism coordinator says that the jihadists agenda goes further than toppling assad it's also a real threat to europe. we are in the process of trying to understand better the reason why so many europeans are going to syria where we. wouldn't and that's what we understand many of the mean the joining two groups really a few too and qaeda. groups which nobody wants to are true i said to have the global jihad driven wreak and the project sophisticate out and therefore. i think would see that in the future but many of them would get back in europe much more radical to me inspired. that recruit other day meet for even

direct to want to attack in europe in two of greece's largest cities athens and thessaloniki tens of thousands have joined peaceful rallies in memory of the one thousand nine hundred three student uprising marking the fortieth anniversary of the revolt against the country's military rule the protests were also directed at the current government for the austerity measures it has imposed in exchange for loans artie's lindsay france reports from athens. this is an instruction that is one hundred m. writing the fortnight of our sunday polytechnic uprising which changes so much and makes society specifically in the government is not only drawing on who are former students and current students and people who want government to change it's also drawing people who are that see affected by the economic reforms the austerity measures that greece wants undertake to get these bailout packages the latest one many people laid out the danger. and possibly university administrators there here getting their voices heard is also have even police presence to make sure that

everything goes peacefully out i guess infiltrated many of the demonstrations are caused by lots of violence lots and everyone here so far seems very peaceful these protests started in the afternoon it has gathered thousands of people move all over athens all age groups many people from teachers unions journalists and fascist new people from all sectors of society really because it was fun to see someone took place forty years ago which was students rising up to ask for their representation with the government and still feeling that leadership needs to change in greece for that to happen. take a look at some other news making headlines around the world for you this hour at least twenty four people have been killed after a cargo train crashed into a bus and other vehicles south of egypt's capital according to local media reports twenty eight others were also heard in the incident the train was traveling from the city of bani suai for and collided with vehicles at

have been reports of a possible explosion at the site although no official confirmation has been made so far while other sources indicate that it might have been a powder smoke incident an underground adoption market has been exposed in the united states it's called private re homing and it allows parents to get rid of their unwanted adopted kids by advertising online no background checks or government scrutiny means that children could end up with families who never would be legally allowed to adopt or could even be taken in by criminals. as details. animal owners may be familiar with the term private re homey typically it refers to those seeking to give their pet away but today the practice is reportedly being used by parents looking to give away the child they adopted from overseas and no longer wants an investigation conducted by reuters found that this
10:21 pm
type of child trafficking is happening largely in cyberspace where parents allegedly advertise their unwanted children through yahoo and facebook groups the lawless atmosphere allows internationally adopted orphans to be passed on to strangers without government scrutiny or even a paper trail as a result many of these children can end up in the custody of criminals sex offenders or abusive adults that would have never been allowed to legally adopt many of the children advertised online for private re homing range between the ages of six to fourteen and have been adopted from abroad including from countries such as russia china ethiopia and ukraine it poses huge risks right because some of the families into which these children leave home they're probably perfectly good and the children are doing better perhaps and some of them are not as of this year u.s. citizens are banned from adopting russian orphans since one nine hundred ninety one

thousand russian children have reportedly died at the hands of their american adoptive parents reporting from new york marine upper nile r.t. now what happens to adopted children when their foster families are preparing to have their own well spoke to one a young man who found himself advertised online and then passed on to a new family after his parents decided that he was not wanted it. dimitris stewart was five years old when he and his brother were adopted from an orphanage in a small town near moscow it would be a rocky road living with his adoptive american parents didn't really feel like. i was there when he was a young teenager after years of strained relations and after his parents had biological children of their own the stewarts decided it was time to find him a new home and that's when they turned to the internet is that i go underground groups where people want. their destructive

a dog sions and stuff like that that's how dimitris parents found nicole isa in eastern advertiser self as an aspiring mother that ran a home school to meet you found out that this was far from the truth this is a little tiny. as they met him he's serious it was clear that his new home was no home school there was an even desk there had to do homework he didn't even. give me the option to go to school and i think he had a kid that was taken away from them from the state so they want a lot of any more kids and that's why they're doing this underground underground thing nicole had been married to a man who was a pedophile and that she could not get a homestudy due to their finances these days private adoptions are far more common it's unclear how many of them were facilitated on the internet where it's harder to regulate the transactions between families after the traumatizing ordeal dimitri

after the attacks of nine eleven a total of seven hundred seventy nine hundred eighty s. have been held at guantanamo today one hundred sixty four people remain. have been long cleared for release but remain locked up a total of six people is currently under trial. alleged prisoners of war brought here since two thousand and two removed from the battlefield of america's ever expanding war on terror it's both the policy of the u.s. not to hold anyone longer than necessary but we also know that whenever we release someone we assume a response over a period of more than a decade the majority of detainees held here have been set free and if the men of guantanamo are really these superhuman monsters you know the worst of the worst are quite there cheney. they would have been really. most of those still kept locked up have not been charged and are being held indefinitely what sort of a black hole of the existing in would the president of the united states simply refuses to say the innocent but u.s. officials say the law of war remains behind this barbed wire the idea that in

a new envoy to close a camp that is a dark spot on america's image this comes after a massive hunger strike that returned the world's attention to the place that some have dubbed the gulag of our times even if close. seems. to me in this stage in u.s. history for over it's very easy to end one ton of. you release the men that you're not prosecuting right and as you said only six men are being prosecuted right now the military prosecutor has made clear that he intends to prosecute a few more but he's also made clear that it won't be more than a few more the record on a promise to close the notorious facility on day one of his presidency he's now in his second term it's only a president who can do it and the idea that it's you know that it's congress's fault is just not correct it is the president that holding these men in detention some president has to come in and this. it's hard to tell right
