of soldiers all over latin america over the past sixty years and in-depth look the later in the show. it's monday november twenty fifth eight pm in washington d.c. and i'm maggie lopez and you are watching our t.v. well starting off this hour for years negotiations for the transpacific partnership partnership have played out behind closed doors and yet the nations involved could be the biggest trade agreement of our day that would address everything from food to medicine to intellectual property told nations involved in the tepee talks could be getting close to a deal over critics warn this agreement could actually hurt the public by acting on behalf of major corporations instead of the public good well asked week thanks to the latest document drop by the secret spilling organization wiki leaks people around the world got a first glimpse of the part of the negotiations that deals with intellectual

property the fact this information came from wiki leaks instead of the obama administration which by the way tell transparency has infuriated some like james that love knowledge ecology international. well it's remarkably we have to depend on we can leaks to find out what the hell is going on oh what did we learn from the ninety five leaks pages and how did wiki leaks get its hands on this draft of the t p p talks where earlier i joe i was joined by christian hoffman said he's that what you like spouse parson and i asked him why wiki leaks is so interested in that he p.p.a. . well what we have of course all about this is revealing this secret documents that are kept from the general public sort of painted by all of these documents and that certainly applies to this a draft of the. evidence from the content of the this is very important chapter of the draft to concerning the internet let you know the property
8:03 pm
rights now should we expect more leaks like this am about the to pinochet nations in the future what we're always careful of the votes are in or about what is in store and i think i will stick to the policy. we have been using information with great importance to the general public and well we have to have to see what what we at least for now how does your organization acquire these documents if i can ask well of course as another person would never get you sued what you would look like we look at it in protecting or sure says that we go to great lengths in and protect you and we never discuss sure says basically understood so what is the most startling thing to you about this late t.p. document. well there are very minute things that are of grave concerns.
8:04 pm
that spring out of this document of course the most important thing of course is that the fact that this has been drafted in secrecy without the general public the eight hundred million people who are going to be affected by this treaty had a chance to review it and even in the u.s. of course there was sort of it has been more an attempt to destruct who has been treating through congress or the. elected members of being able to scrutinize every angle of it and make any amendments to it but there are many elements within the treaty it's of. we can talk about the simple fact that the pharmaceutical industry will make it much harder for the poorer people in this area to get access to was horribly letters and we can talk
8:05 pm
about we have helped on. the internet. on the spur of the stifling there are so many angles there all is serving of course the big corporate interest and it is not surprising of course when you sit at the. hundreds of representatives from those interests as a priority access to the negotiating table access that was denied to the general public so do you think the biggest problem about these negotiations is that they are transparent or that they cover too much what should people be most concerned about here. this of him being concerned about of course the process that is the secrecy surrounding this is a very important treaty covering when markets are all of the world trade a third of world trade these are countries that don't buy into about forty percent of the g.d.p. of the entire world and it is setting
8:06 pm
a better benchmark even for further negotiations in this period has been claimed by the obama administration and this is the prince who is going to be used in the recent is that it will change in the trans atlantic treaty between the u.s. and the european union so this is basically setting this animal on world trade in total secrecy. another element that should be of similar worrying to the general public is the fact that the enforcement mechanisms that are set of the in the this proposal setting out the supranational tribunals. will supersede or a sense of importance in the countries where the forward lawyers will be sitting and judging on matters concerning individuals within each of the countries
8:07 pm
permission. passing we dish eery so it is very very grave matters that are coming from or our attention with this is leading. we should be. concerned about the simple fact that many elements of these treaties specially in these chaps it is intellectual property rights have to have been protested and sort of pressed on the naturalism for something. in the us. it's been for the supernational treaty. or sit in the. whole tree that we say so paul because of the new science will see almost two chapters of the t.p. you actually are concerned about trade the rest is protective measures. or all about the interest of lawrence multinationals. very concerning indeed
8:08 pm
now there are reports that the leak of this chapter could have to lay the passage out to take a page from making the u.s. trade representative's deadline was that your intention that what this leak has to slow down those typically talks. our intention was basically to pass this document which was onto the general public of document that was passed on to us this is what in europe was an organization. fighting on natural secrecy on matters which concern the general public and i believe it's a natural thing to when this comes to mind when the people start to i digest what the tail when the organization that in the beginnings of the material and see if we could be like doctors without borders on the frontier

foundation those who have had grave concerns of a method that is pre-chosen on of course this is raising concern and the officer is transferred when at the boat was that it's. unsure of those who will take a second look at the scene carefully before they have the ministrations so that scientists treaty this was the plan to do this in secrecy it's ups. and we only have about thirty seconds left but how involved was joyous songe in this leak or has it been sidelined as a result of being holed up in that ecuadorian embassy in london. julian it is it was in the midst of these and of course i bet that the entire world if i can say with going into details that this lead to quite a bit of extra work. in an hour of work of course in protecting oceans has. spent some time in london and the city and the two julian

was directing his work. or directing organization even though it is this work is a bit more difficult to get in that sort of instance and not a different know looking back at the edward snowden leaks what are your thoughts about that what your organization up before for him to come to you. there is decision but it's very important to keep in mind that what we give to those true and what sort of the. right to win a window of war. all. of them and of those we have one of them should order them as much as. they can to it's but christian are often send wiki leaks spokesperson thank you so much for joining me today and. well if you ever stepped foot in the us again he'd undoubtedly be

arrested but that's not stopping of work snowden's face from popping up around d.c. the partnership for civil justice fun announced last week that it bought ad space on a bus driving around the nation's capital the ad has a picture of edward snowden on the side and a message that reads it we the people oppose the surveillance state and say thank you edward snowden earlier in the afternoon the bus hit the road and is scheduled to loop through downtown d.c. over the next few weeks the ad is funded almost entirely on donations the rope is hoping to buy ad space on more buses in january when congress is back in session in order to raise awareness about n.s.a. surveillance and the u.s. government's treatment of the man who released all of this information even while we are now learning that the director of the national security agency keith alexander offered to resign as a result of those n.s.a. leaks that's according to a senior u.s.
8:12 pm
official who spoke to the wall street journal it's an offer which the obama administration declined in the moment a month ago the white house acknowledged that alexander will leave his post in march and that his search for a replacement is underway the u.s. government is still dealing with considerable pushback nationally and internationally in the wake of those leaks leaks which began in june and continue to this day. well a historic nuclear deal could change the trajectory of nation of relations between the u.s. and iran the agreement was reached late saturday night when despite predictions that nothing would come of those talks in geneva between iran and the p five plus one countries an agreement was finally reached the deal will last six months as the countries continue to discuss the permanent agreement that will allow iran to pursue a peaceful nuclear program without developing weapons take a look at what the short term deal includes. iran has agreed to dilute all
8:13 pm
stockpiles of twenty percent enriched uranium now the reason the number is so concerning is because it's easier to make a nuclear bomb once that twenty percent threshold is reached iran must also halt all enrichment above five percent and suspend construction of new centrifuges and enrichment facilities and that includes stopping work on the heavy water reactor being developed at iraq which is believed to have the ability to produce nuclear bomb fuel perhaps most importantly our own will provide increased access to inspectors from the i.a.e.a. the likes of which have never been seen before in return the u.s. has agreed to provide six to seven billion dollars in sanction relief sanctions that have severely impacted the iranian economy of that over four billion dollars in iranian oil sales revenue will be released from frozen accounts it also puts a hold on all nuclear related sanctions over the next six months now but deal has
8:14 pm
received a lot of praise but also a lot of criticism mainly from israel benjamin netanyahu called the deal a historic mistake both democrat and republican members of congress have promised a new round of sanctions and they aren't alone artie's of poly boyko takes a look at the international relations over the deal. it's a deal that saluted diplomats for a decade. and as the crucial make or break iran letelier talks continued into the night details of how they were going were leading the journalists camped out in geneva so we waited and waited and waited while diplomats from six world powers and iran inched their way closer to an historic breakthrough than after sixteen hours a tweet from the e.u.'s top diplomat a deal had been done. to the six negotiating powers agreed to recognize iran's right to peaceful nuclear energy business including its right to enrichment under
8:15 pm
the conditions of this program is placed under strict control by the. issue. as we received word of the agreement we got details to iran had agreed to reduce its uranium enrichment from twenty to a maximum of five percent used for u.s. centrifuges while halting construction of a new reactor near the town of iraq this throughout this long list of concessions iran's foreign minister still had a smile on his face in return he won for his country a partial easing of sanctions allowing tarantula regain control of billions of dollars worth of much needed funds in foreign banks we believe that it is the sanctions that have brought us to this negotiation and ultimately today more significant negotiation to follow for a comprehensive agreement others have stressed that it wasn't the stress of more punitive measures but diplomacy that won the day over the night in the case of
8:16 pm
these talks the fact that that the iranians have shown time after time that there is no evidence that iran think their program with anything like peaceful is something that has been ignored by the western and western governments but this despite all that iran's resilience has forced these countries to step. in. richmond and again the russians and the chinese have played a very constructive role and i don't think that sanctions played as much of a role as a recognition by the united states and britain and other countries that we need to engage iran because iran is becoming increasingly influential this is the only and the interior but agreements in six months time well it's because i'm doing wrong on a set to return to the negotiating table i don't intend he is a failed. deal signed here in the middle of the night if the game changer

people like a seat. well still ahead here on r t protesters gathered at fort benning georgia calling for the western hemisphere institute for security cooperation to be close to the institute formerly known as the school of the americas has a sixty year history in training thousands of soldiers all over latin america look at what the protesters want when we come back.
8:18 pm
welcome back well over the weekend protesters descended on. fort benning georgia to speak out against the western hemisphere institute for security cooperation formally known as the school of the americas candy will protester about seventeen hundred people to the gates outside of fort benning unlike previous years though not a single protester was arrested on this the twenty third annual gathering the message remained the same to end congressional funding of the military education facility notorious for human rights abuses throughout latin america producer of breaking the set manuel rock low was in georgia this weekend carries his report. the western

hemisphere institute for security and cooperation otherwise known as a school of the americas depending on who you ask the school is little more than a training center focused on building cooperation between the u.s. military and its latin american counterparts but for many others it's a notorious breeding ground for some of the worst human rights violators in the western hemisphere the school has graduated over sixty four thousand soldiers since one thousand nine hundred six soldiers were taught everything from enhanced interrogation to psychological warfare at least eleven latin american dictators have trained at the school including the infamous manuel noriega of panama and got the money as if it ain't leo's munt who oversaw the genocide of almost two thousand indigenous mayans during his brutal reign in the one nine hundred eighty s. every year the gates to the school of the americas in fort benning georgia serve as a meeting ground for thousands of activists from across the u.s. canada and latin america who have one clear message.
8:20 pm
to shut it down september eleventh nine hundred seventy three there was a military dictatorship that was funded by the cia funded by the us and part of that dictatorship was you know having people tortured and disappeared and incarcerated as political prisoners and the folks that did that torture were trained here at the school of the americas who called the school of the assassins father roy a witness to killings in central america founded the school of the americas watch in one thousand nine hundred ninety and has been putting on this annual event for the last twenty three years it's about how you know pressure men with the office you will return to their countries why contours of other countries out to their training are to protect us economically just. to exploit the cheap labor of a natural resource over the years this demonstration has only grown attracting people from all walks of life but for some it's a very personal and emotional experience this is odd. ana barto

political spectrum to urge congress to act on this issue because the question of promoting human rights abuse isn't about left and right it's about right and wrong but. r.t. fort benning georgia well it's a dancing phenomenon that miley cyrus put on the map or did she talking was all anyone could talk about after the m.t.v. video music awards but the idea that cyrus is the one that made the dance famous is out of step with reality are to correspondent david explains. it was the shake that shook the world the miley cyrus performance that for days garnered twenty four hour news coverage it was the raunchy performance that still has people shaking their heads among other body parts twenty year old miley cyrus twerking the twisting torquing tongue flashing scantily clad elephant it was provocative it was shocking it was pro shocking pro shock it if indeed shortly
8:23 pm
after the performance to maryland high school decided to tighten the rules just a little bit more making students and their parents sign a contract in order to attend this year's homecoming dance and written in ink is the full breakdown of the outlaw dance moves that list now including twerking but bob mosher a spokesperson for the county school district says the contract wasn't a reaction to miley cyrus but rather to the evolution of the latest dance moves really what's happened is that it's no secret that the nature of dancing has become more provocative in recent years five years ten years ago it's just not the same as it was two decades ago but it's not only schools who are defining twerking as provocative it's also the oxford english dictionary which just recently made the word one of its newest additions oxford now defines it as a dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low squatting stance but whether someone twerking is sexually provocative may be
8:24 pm
up for interpretation after all many people believe twerking goes back centuries with it off to being compared to the traditional dances of west africa in fact writer cristiana mbox ways says twerking isn't anything new that the mainstream media is just catching up to something that's existed in black global culture for years and johns isn't just about sexualization it's about celebration it's about movement it's about being exciting and in a visit i think when every anything travels from africa. and across the water something is lost and something is gained i think was lacking what happened was they were this is a complete misunderstanding about what it means to different people and how it's not exclusively sexual or direct their oak tree and dance instructor janet jones agrees i could see where people who don't understand it will take it in the negative like because the does look factual but i think it's fun.
8:25 pm
jones is the creator of the vixen workout referred to as the work school of the east coast she says twerking means much more than just a sexy dance for the dozens of women that attend her class it also means fitness you're working out your quads are working out your glutes you're working out your lower abbott are so hard to target and you don't notice what you're doing because you're having so much fun. no matter how the dance is perceived jones says fine this is what it's all about reminding us all that twerking won't be defined by the dictionary but rather by the twerk curves themselves in washington a mirror david partied. well here in the us we have a long history of americans abusing certain legal drugs with adverse effects even heroin was once considered a legal drug until let's ban in one thousand and fourteen it was marketed as a cure for morphine addiction one tell it led to a new host of problems yet we remain
8:26 pm
a nation where medicine manufacturers produce new drugs that are approved by the f.d.a. and are advertised to be a cure all however they can still be harmful for a look at that the residents lori harshness. in the us tens of thousands of people die every year from overdosing on painkillers such as oxycodone or hydrocodone you know opioids that are basically legal heroin but heroin none the last over the past fifteen years sales for prescription painkillers have quadrupled almost twice as many people abuse prescription drugs as
8:27 pm
the number of people who abuse cocaine heroin hallucinogens and inhalants combined after hearing all of that you're probably thinking we can really use another page tailored well have no fear because the f.d.a. just approved a brand new wood and called zero hydro a version of our economy. the extra horrible thing about this one is that unlike other legal versions of heroin that millions of americans are already strong out on this one isn't designed to deter abuse you see most pain meds on the market are formulated so that their consistency is changed when they're crushed to deter people from crushing them up to inject or snort them lots of them matters much obviously because thousands of people abuse painkillers every day so hydro however works just as totally when it's crushed it also contains about five to ten
8:28 pm
times more of the heroin like opioid cotto and then other pills like by given to ten times more during the drugs clinical trials one test subject actually was ordered of a drug. no overdosed on it after the study was over but that didn't bother the f.d.a. to lie to a parent lead because the hydro is set to hit pharmacy shelves in a few months. since its super strong and just as potent when crushed it's only a matter of time before people seek it out and get addicted and that brings us to the worst part of this story because alchemy the company that will be manufacturing this very addictive painkiller also manufactures a popular medication called through the trial vitro is used to treat people addicted to pain killers so first they make the potent addictive painkiller and then they make the pill you pop to help you beat your addiction that's not irony
